I'm not sure why this place has an average rating of 5 stars. It's maybe 3 stars at best. The brunch is definitely better than the dinner, but it's still pretty bland. I've been h...

Great food, neighborhood atmosphere, interesting menu 7/14/2006

This is a great little restaurant tucked away from the mainstream places on Market Street but the food is excellent featuring a fusion with Asian flair. The feels a bit like a European Cafe with the outdoor table seating, sunny windows and relaxed atmosphere. Sunday brunches are also a treat here. _KenHend Pros: Great food and casual, relaxed ambience Cons: Parking can be difficult sometimes in the Castro. more

Best meal ever...such a creative chef...talented...best services.. make sure to make reservation in advance. 7/14/2006

I ate there 3 years ago and fell in love with this place until now. Very consistance in everything. Not only good plates but also best dessert. Chef is the most creative chef that I ever try....better than a lot of Iron Chef on TV... I love the painting on the wall that change every season... The negative point of view is too busy and have to wait too long if I don't make reservation in advance. I love the way it was in the past ....without reservation you still can squeeze yourself in somewhere.. Pros: Best food Cons: Wait too long more

Sean, the chef and 1/2 owner, is a genius creating incredibly delicious asian-fusion dishes that are memorable and mouth-watering. Of particular mention is the appetizer Cornfritters (a light, spicy glazed corn finger-food, the dinner entree Coriander Beef Short Ribs, and the Potato Latke for brunch. The ambiance is perfect for conversation, and the sidewalk al fresco dining perfect for brunch on the many sunny days in this part of town, 2 blocks from Mission Dolores. Tangerine has been particularly supportive of the community, too, donating generously to important causes. Pros: Warm, elegant atmosphere, delicious moderate priced food Cons: arrive early, busy on weekends, parking difficult - use lot behind Tower Records on Market more

The best people, food, atmosphere and prices - my home for dinner guests 7/14/2006

I absolutely love this place - in fact I tease the owner I ought to get a cut of the profits because I eat there 2-3 times a month and refer people there constantly. It is friendly - they remember you from your first visit and the menu is so diverse and ever enlivened by marvelous additions/changes. Even at the pace I visit - I am never bored nor have I been disappointed or felt bad about recommending Tangerine to any one who counts in my life. Only my enemies would I tell NOT to go there! Pros: you name it Cons: parking mid evening is difficult more

Great Brunch! 7/13/2006

When I told a friend I was planning to visit San Francisco, he told me that I had to try dining at Tangerine. So, one Saturday morning I decided to brunch there with a friend and we had the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had with the most delicious freshly squeezed orange juice, all very reasonably priced and served by a very attentive and professional waiter. \r \r After such an impressive brunch, I decided to dine at Tangerine one evening to try their dinner. The owner of the restaurant, Sean, approached us, and since we were new to the restaurant was happy to let us sample various appetizers, including delicious fried okra, egglant, and incredibly good duck rolls. For dinner I had a delicious serving of Sea Bass served on a bed of steamed rice wrapped in kale (excellent) and my friend had the New York Strip (which he said was one of the best he had ever eaten--and being a Texan, he knows steak).\r \r Tangerine serves excellent food in a friendly, inviting, very California atmosphere at very reasonable prices--a place that seems just as good for the local as it is for the tourist. Just remember that with brunch, be sure to order a tall glass of their orange juice---you'll be glad you did. Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service more

happy endings 7/2/2006

so...we walk in and my first thought is that i'm pleased by the colorful atmosphere. we were quickly ushered to our reserved table but had to wait almost 10 minutes before we got so much as a second glance from one of the waiters. however, this was quickly forgiven as our waiter approaced our table - gliding, really - with a big smile on his face and bounce in his step. a quick, but needed apology, was all we needed to get our night started. he gave great service, good recommendations and helped to make what started as a slow dining experience, the extra ooomph! that it needed. the menu selections weren't my favorite, but the nightly specials they have can't be missed. free wine, 20% off entres and $10 nights. more

Great Unique Neighborhood Restaraunt 6/10/2006

The food and atmoshphere are excellent. The location draws diverse, eccentric, people. The waitors are fun and friendly. There is a wide range of food to choose from, and everything tastes great. We went for brunch, and shared a crab omelete, an eggs benedict dish with smoked salmon (great combination), and banana and stawberry topped french toast with authentic maple syrup. All of the food was literally the best we have ever had, and we have been to at least 10 places that serve eggs benedict and french toast. The crab omelete was just amazing. The dessert menu has many choice items like tiramisu, kalhua creme bruless, mouse, and other traditional french and italian desserts. The place even has special themes for each night, like 20% of day, two for one drink specials, free Coppola wine with entree amongst other things. When we went, the daily special was seared salmon, and although we didnt order, it sounded delecious. This will be our new place for brunch. Pros: Great atmosphere, Great food, Great Service Cons: Parking is always difficult in the city more

can't wait to go back 4/24/2006

This restaurant is lovely-- really nice lighting, nice decor, and each table had a small vase with 2 real orchids. And the servers were so nice and accommodating. (They didn't rush us out, so we sat there and talked for an hour or more.) The menu has so many mouth-watering options, but I had the special of the day (Alaskan halibut with red pepper risotto). DELICIOUS. And every dish is plated with beautiful presentation. The food is definitely on par with places like Chaya and Aqua. I almost want to give this place horrible reviews just so that I can keep this a secret. Pros: excellent food, great service, good value more

Thrifty Thursday's a Deal! 4/20/2006

Me and my friend got our entree for $9.95 b/c it was Thrifty Thurs...it was fantastic! The sesame salmon and mushroom risotto was so good and big portions for such little price. Even though it was a special, they did not compensate the quality. The decor was cute and not pretentious. A great place from casual to romantic dining. Everything was unique from the tangeriny tasting water to the gourmet butter used for the bread. Will definitely be coming back! Pros: Price, Food , Unique Cons: Small if big party more

No more boring sunday brunches 4/16/2006

I came here with 3 guys and they all loved it. The chef is extremely attentive to both the textures and the flavors of everything from the water (punched up with peach syrup) to the omelettes. I had the shiitake mushroom omelette and it was perfectly fluffy and eggy. Belgian waffles with ginger/cocunut sauce also stood out. The service was polite, yet attentive. The prices unbeatable -- all entrees under $10. I would definitely come back again. Pros: Great value, Food well-prepared, Attentive service Cons: Okay decorations more
