If you dont use it you lose it....REALLY?!?!?! 4/18/2011

I recently acquired a $35 gift certificate to T-Bonz/Kaminskys. My boyfriend and I went and only ended up using $20 of the certificate. Our waiter was very nice but did not tell me when I gave him the certificate that if you dont use the whole total you dont get the remaining balance back. When I asked the manager who happened to walk by as to why my waiter hadnt brought back the remaining amount and it had been over 10 min, the manager (with an attitude in his voice) told me that if you dont use it, you lose it. When I explained that we were going to go to kaminskys to use the remainder, he made it sound like he would bring me a new certificate (and his voice said it was a HUGE inconvenience) ""just this once"". After waiting another 10-15 minutes, I had to flag him down again and he rudely said ""just go next door! I manage both!"" A) a manager should have better people skills and patience than that B) if your restaurant is going to have a dumb ""use it or lose it"" policy maybe you should put that on the certificate! .... just a thought.... more

Great food, fun atmosphere, very hospitable 5/24/2008

Recently ate at T-bonz on vacation - my boyfriend and I were looking for a restaurant downtown that's not 90% seafood (hard to find) and we liked that the menu prices weren't sky-high. It was very crowded but we lucked out and got seated immediately. After asking for advice from our server and the manager who also happened to be passing by, my boyfriend ordered the VERY highly-recommended Drunken Ribeye and I ordered ribs. When they brought the food though, we both tasted the ribeye and found the bourbon sauce to be pretty foul. Obviously people like it and order it alot but my boyfriend couldn't eat it, so we told our server and she offered to bring him out an entirely different meal at no extra cost. He got the ribs, same as me, and we ate every bite. They were some of the tastiest ribs I've ever had (and I'm picky) - fell right off the bone, so tender. All in all, we were impressed with the experience - we slipped up by ordering the wrong thing but the staff made sure to bring us a new selection quickly. Also, the salad that comes with the meal was delicious. Pros: Great ribs, very accomodating service, fun atmosphere Cons: Beware drunken ribeye unless you LOVE bourbon more

The Decline of T-Bonz 3/12/2008

Throughout the 1990's and early 2000's T-bonz used to be a great place. While their steaks were not the very best, they were darn good and very reasonably priced. To go with that, the atmosphere was cozy, confortable and casual. All in all, a winning combination. But around 2004-05, the quality of the food started going down. After a while, my friends and I, who used to go there regularely, decided that we had had enough of the bad food, and the unwillingness of management to satisfy us. Our group, which sometimes consisted of as many as five or six, stopped going, with people dropping out one by one. I have not been there since 2006, and a friend who went there about six months ago said that it was a mistake. The problem I suspect has to do with pricing. For many years, their prices remained stable, but, due to inflation, this meant that thquality was going down. Too bad because I like the atmosphere. I rather go somewhere else and pay more money. more

Good choice of food items, serving size is LARGE 1/21/2008

We had a group of seven so we were seated upstairs by ourselves. Service was good. We mainly ordered sandwiches which were very large. The fries were tasty and everything was fresh. Bring a big appetite. Pros: Size of sandwiches more

Good Place for Steaks in the Holy City 3/18/2005

Ate during happy hour on a Friday afternoon. Had the 22oz ribeye with mashed potatoes and it was good plate - i'd say 4 out of 5 stars. I've had better, but nonetheless, the atmosphere is great. Our waiter was really nice and was present most of the time to ensure we were enjoying our meal. So I'm ranking service high. Unfortunately, one thing I didn't like is to benefit from the happy hour drinks, you *must* be at the bar - dining area doesn't count. Don't see the logic in this one. They've already sold me on a pricey dinner... could have helped out a bit since the bar was only 20 feet away ya'know? Pros: Service, Food Cons: Rules of Happy Hour more
