Editorial review from Citysearch 7/26/2013

BEWARE of their one year zero % financing. Star makes a contract with you that is ""revolving"" so you NEVER receive statements in the mail. You're expected to remember when the payment is due. Ohhh......and if you forget the payment? You guessed it! The finance charges/fees are assessed to your account! When I called with concerns because this wasn't stressed when I signed the contract, I was told they can send you monthly reminders! They never offered that in the beginning! Seriously......they wait until you miss your payment date to tell you this?? Not great customer service! more

Never Again! 2/22/2012

I purchased the Brooke Ivory sofa, loveseat, and ottoman approximately a year ago. The sofa, which I am still paying on, is in really bad shape. I purchased the protection plan for the sofa only but have been now been told that it covers ONLY spot cleaning. The sofa isn?t even the same color, it looks so bad. The fabric has started to pill, and when I called to complain about it the customer service woman, who was a bit rude, said, ?oh that?s just normal wear and tear?. In less than a year that sofa will look THAT bad??\r \r Additionally, I called about 2 weeks ago to schedule a representative to come out and look at the sofa to determine if it was normal wear and tear or faulty, and to look at some of the stains. Again, I find it hard to believe that normal wear and tear can cause a sofa to look SO bad within a year. Anyway, I was told the representative would arrive at my house today, February 22, but would call first to let me know what time. I just got a call 10:00 am more

Star Furniture San Antonio 7/22/2011

My experience at Star Furniture on DeZavala was good. I won't say super, but better than an experience with one of their competitors. The sales lady was only somewhat knowledgeable about the custom piece that we bought. She had to make calls to the vendor, but in the end got it right. The couch was delivered much earlier than I was told, like a month or more, which was a good thing. On the day of delivery, the driver called and was also running early. I was thrilled. They delivered the couch in a fast and courteous manner. My only real caution at this point is to read your contract carefully. It looks to me like they are hoping that I only make the minimum payments for the next two years so that they can tack on an extra $935.00 at the end. I plan to double my payment every month to insure that they don't stick it to me in the end. more

I just went to the Star Furniture off of I-10 today and have to say that I experienced the same feelings toward the sales staff as some others have. I'm sorry to say, I won't be back either. My daughter and I were both shopping so no one can say it was just me. We were looking at dining room tables and chairs and I had finally narrowed it down as they are very spread out and my daughter and I kept getting turned around in the store. All I wanted was to ask a few questions and then I had prepared to pay cash. I then had planned on looking at family room furniture. Well, we were on the second floor and we never could find a sales person. So, finally my daughter says here comes a sales lady. Finally, she came up to us and we told her we had settled on a dining room table but had some questions about it and wasn't sure how to find it again as we were getting turned around with all of the different areas. She asked us what the table looked like and seemed to be following behind us more

Stalker salesman 2/11/2011

I was shopping for a dining set. Upon entering the store there were about 10 sales people standing by the receptionist desk. All waiting to pounce on whomever reached the customer first. A gentlemen beat out the pack. I stated to him that we were only in there to look around, and would find a sales person if we had any questions. That sales man followed and stalked us our whole entire time in the store. Everytime I turned around he was standing and just staring at my mother in law and I. I was soooo uncomfortable that we left. I understand the recession is hitting everyone, but really do they have to stalk their potential customers. more

Nightmare delivery 11/15/2010

Don't get fooled with brownnosing service at the store. Once you pay for your stuff (in my case two bedroom sets) you are on your own trying to get it without hits, dents and scratches. And if there was something that REALLY ticked me off, was their blame on the Chinese, since 99% of their overpriced furniture is made in China. Their retail products are so attractive you don't mind to overpay a little, but their delivery will smack you on your face and leave you wishing you drove a U-Haul Truck to Mexico for more affordable and quality furniture; even my 88 year old grandma would have been more careful moving furniture in/out of a freaking truck. more

ARRIVED DAMAGED 10/20/2010

I bought a new queen size bed from Star Furniture. It showed up damaged. I was given the runaround on getting it replaced, and I had to basically scream at a manager to get them to send me a 2nd one. It too showed up with damage. No one seemed to care about my complaints. I wanted my money back. They refused. I finally called Visa, refused the charge (i.e. did a chargeback on my credit card), and fought with Star via Mastercard. It took four months but I got my money back. DO NOT EVER BUY FROM STAR. THEY ARE DISHONEST AND DON'T CARE IF THEY DAMAGE YOUR FURNITURE. more

My personal experience with Star 10/18/2010

I was reading the comments - wow! I bought a couch for my den aboutl years ago and it was in the discounted area. It had a chair to match. I chose just the couch and love it. I wish I could send a picture of it. It looks lovely and I have had very good service when I was a serious buyer and you should have had. Thank you Star and I plan on coming in this week to check out comfortable chairs. more

Get off your high horses!!! 4/20/2010

Dont you people have anything important to l3itch about?!?!? Its FURNITURE! And you wonder why customer service, sales, delivery, and anyone else that has to listen to you doesnt care. You actually took time out of your day to write a whole story about how crappy a company is! If star was so crappy then why would Warren Buffet own this company? Did you people ever think that maybe the problem is just you? You know their is alot of crazy people out there that like to over react to nonsence and maybe your the crazy people! no really think about it. Get a life, you cant please everyone and thats a fact. more

Total disappointment 4/6/2010

Don't get fooled by the service in the showroom! Once I committed to buy a bedroom set, it took forever to get it from the store. After a few headaches with Star, I concluded they just didn't care if they damaged the furniture during delivery. It took them three attempts (almost two months) to deliver a bedroom set without major damages (in the end, I threw the towel and accepted the $3,100 furniture with minor scratches). Some of the scratches, were masked with some sort of tint. I did not like the experience and I will not set a foot in this San Antonio furniture store ever again (STAR, the one in Interstate 10), even if they give me a 75% discount. Its not worth it. Thank you. more

Star Furniture Custom Drapery Failure 12/7/2009

I purchased custom window treatments from the San Antonio Store. I put over $6000 down and was to have delivery within a few weeks. This was in May. After a few weeks had gone by with no word, I went to the store. The designer told me my fabric was on back order and to give it another week or so. This was just the beginning.... Over the next 8 or 9 months I received the following excuses for the delay: 1. I'm busy with another project 2. I need more measurements 3. I need to recheck my measurements 4. I need to make templates 5 My installer is out of town 6. My installer is sick 7. My installer's mother is sick 8. My installer's mother died 9. The manufacturer lost your order 10. I have to do another template etc. etc. etc. She would call, make an appointment and then not show up or call. When it got to the point I was going to complain she produced 1/2 of the order. She still didn't have an installer so she had the seamstress' husband do the installing. I was more

Total Incompetence 11/6/2009

Star Furniture = overpriced furniture carelessly delivered to your home incomplete, broken, marred, smashed, dented AND/OR scratched over an unacceptably period of time. The store manager won't care when you complain about their incompetence--he realizes he is not capable of making the necessary procedural changes to fix Star's unacceptable deliveries. He will blame the damages on everyone from the Chinese who built the furniture to the people in Houston who unpack and assemble the furniture and ultimately deliver it to the San Antonio store. His Houston boss will only pretend he cares. Warren Buffett, the billionaire owner of Star Furniture, will be more interested in promoting his car insurance company with a green gecko than addressing the problems of his furniture company. As a successful businessman, Mr. Buffett realizes that all furniture stores in San Antonio are equally incompetent delivering goods and, in light of a lack of choices, people will shop in his store no matter more

Didn't keep a promise 3/8/2009

I fell in love with a blue sofa in their clearance center. I was told that I could buy the piece separately. I go back the next day to purchase it and am told that I have to buy two chairs with it - raising the cost to $1600. I am very upset that they couldn't keep their promise. I just moved to San Antonio and I will never step foot in there again. Ever. And will tell my friends to do the same. more

Whats With all the Customer Bashing? 11/7/2008

Just look at the argumentive banter going back and forth here. If a customer complains, then there is generally an underlying reason for it. Don't be looking to shift the blame elsewhere, see what you can to to keep the next guy from feeling the same way. Jeez, read the rebuttal comments of an obvious "annonymous" employee..."pissy customers," "bitchy customers," "Karmas a ..." Great attitude from the sales staff that tends to reinforce perceptions and comments of rude treatment. I don't need to be exposed to this kind of irrational behavior. I'll just go look somewhere else. Thanks for the insight into what kind of business this is... more

Let's Let the Sales Consultant Speak!! 9/22/2008

There are some pretty harsh words being said about Star Furniture, I find it hard to believe, but each person has a view. We are trained at Star to value every person that walks through the door as we would a member of our family. The theory being treat people the way you want to be treated and to be as helpful and as knowledgeable as possible then your "guest" will come back again. Yes "guest" we are all trained to believe the customer is not just a warm body walking in the door to get the "hard sell" but the "guest" you get to know not for only one sell but many visits whether they buy or not. After reading the terrible reviews "my store" received I was floored. Star spends weeks and months training and schooling their consultants and trust me a Sales Manager would never allow any of those shenanigans on the floor. For the furniture to be shown as one quality and received as another is ridiculous. The Sales Representatives for the furniture manufacturers could not stay in business if more

The truth about Star Furniture 5/27/2008

Now I'm writing with as much of 6 years of experience at Star Furniture. First off, Star does not MAKE the furniture, it comes from over seas and sales people have NO control over that! Second, furniture has to be stacked because of pissy customers who |3itch that they want their furniture TODAY or TOMORROW, so Star will do whatever it takes to make customers happy and get it delivered as soon as possible.(BTW, you do not get free delivery just because you spent $1000 or $100,000 on furniture from there, gas and labor are not free!) Another reason why your furniture will be scratched is because if you decide to cancel it THE DAY BEFORE delivery, it has to go in the truck anyway, so your stuff will be flopping around in the truck. Then that's the same furniture you will get when you finally decide on an actual delivery date that you want and you have to have it right away and then you get mad because it's damaged. Third, if you ever have bad experience with your sales consultant like at more

Star = SCAM 6/13/2007

Star Furniture in SA is completely UNSATISFACTORY...Let me explain: I'm writing as i had MUCH experience with STAR as a formal salesmen for Star for almost 1 year and I have a few pieces(which are completely worthless now). First: The sales people are completely rude and can care less about you once you sign your name on the contract and put your money on the counter...After that, prepare for hell... The stores look very 'grand' and exciting once you enter, but you'll notice ALL the pieces of furniture are completely OVER PRICED. The quality of the furniture looks good in the showroom, but once you receive your pieces 2-10 weeks later you'll notice the quality is NOT what you wanted...the showroom pieces have more more quality then the actual product, believe me. Next: Delivery takes on average 1-2 weeks, and up to 10 weeks. The delivery trucks are loaded up by big black guys being bossed around in Houston, ive seen it, the furniture is thrown onto the trucks and STACKED on top of each more

Salespeople are Rude 2/12/2006

I have twice been in this store and both times I have found their salespeople to be rude. I haven't purchased anything here yet because of it. They have a huge selection but not really anything that I couldn't get anywhere else and cheaper. The last time I tried to shop here, I was looking for a sofa and loveseat. The salesperson stopped me at the door, asked me what I was looking for and then said. We do n't have anything like that - turned around and walked away. I asked him if I could look through the store - he pointed to the back of the store and said "the couches are that a way". I was so shocked that when I walked into Haverty's and was warmly greated, I made a comment that it was such a difference from the last store I was in and they said "you must have just gone to Star - we hear that all the time" Sad........ I won't try them a third time. more

Star Furniture DOESN'T Care About QUALITY ! 12/20/2005

I special ordered 3 chairs from Star Furniture and the chairs were delivered about three weeks late. That is number one, they took much longer to make than promised. The MAIN Problem...The Quality of the chairs I bought is not as good as what was in the store. I was promised one thing and given another. I expected the same quality in the chairs ordered as what I had sat on in the store. Well, they are not even close! A salesperson said..."Maybe it was made on Friday". They offered to do " N O T H I N G " for me. The chairs are not comfortable like the ones in the store. One of them had a Tear on part of it, so they took it and when brought back is nothing like the chair that was takn. My whole experience with them is a $2400.00 WASTE of time! I spent good money for POOR QUALITY. They have my money and NOW they Will NOTdo ANYTHING for me. I should not have pre-paid, but they insisted on cash BEFORE the chairs could be made. The salespeople are a JOKE at the store. T more
