SpeedLA Dating - ""HUGELY DISAPPOINTING !!!"" 5/3/2012

After reading the multiple reviews posted across multiple cities two things have become clear : 1. My experience is far from atypical and 2. SpeedLA Dating has some obvious issues, and instead of accepting constructive criticism and attempting to better the experience they choose to blame their clients. I'll start off by saying that I went into this evening with my only expectation being that I would have a fun, interesting evening and maybe an interesting story or two to tell by the end. The problem is that what SpeedLA Dating promotes, on their website and in their emails and advertisements is not what they are actually selling. I purchased my event ticket through a Groupon type deal site, and I'm glad I did, because I can't even imagine how much more disappointed I would be if I had paid the full $44 that this event is supposed to cost. Their website is slick and professional and full of promise, but in reality the event I attended was unorganized, understaffed and lacked personality. Yes there was one makeup artist in place to do makeup for almost 10 women in less than half an hour. So their response is that they don't have a set start time, but that is *not* what is presented in their emails or on their website. There is a start time listed. If some of the girls hadn't chosen to forgo the makeover , which they push women to take advantage of, the event would have started at least an hour after the listed start time. The hostess of our event seemed uninterested in being there, spent much of the evening at the bar with her back turned to us (even during the pre-dates ""mingling"" stage of the evening) and was awkward, at best, at transitioning daters between rounds. There was also a problem with there not being the correct number of tables which was resolved awkwardly, and at the last minute. The ""delicious"" appetizers that they offered amounted to a bucket of spring rolls and a bucket of dumplings of some kind that mostly sat on the bar untouched because 1)they arrived after the mini-dates had started and 2) they weren't presented in an appealing way. In short, the main things that the company plays up as setting them apart from other speed dating services (makeovers, food, personality!) are all hugely disappointing in practice. more

Discriminatory 4/28/2012

These people are ridiculous. They wouldn't let me attend an event because I am a ""blogger"". As in, I write once a month about social media on my company's blog. I even said I'd sign papers saying I wouldn't write about them if they were concerned, but they claimed customers didn't like being set up with bloggers. Good luck finding clientele who aren't bloggers in this day in age. more

Interesting. 4/24/2012

Definitely interesting. I took advantage of a Gilt promotion that offered 3 events. I've been to two and thought I would chime in on my experience thus far. 1. I really think the venues are some of the best in the city and it's nice not to have to spend a weeks worth of rent on dinner just to check out the locale. 2. I have a boss from hell. For two of my events I had to reschedule last minute because my boss would decide that we had to stay late. The matchmaking office was nice and tried to be accommodating both times. Once they let me reschedule and for the second one, it was like a half hour before the night was to begin so I couldn't carry that over. But I appreciated their gestures. 3. Both times I went I had the makeover before the event. Neither time did I have a lot done, but did manage to get a bit spruced up which was fun. The girl was very sweet and def. made me feel special. 4. The crowd seemed really down to earth at both events. I found 2 guys I wanted to hang out with again at the 1st event I attended and 1 guy on my second event. 5. At the break, the hosts offer passed appetizers. That rocked! Now for the not so great; 1. Events are booked solid which makes it hard to reserve and even harder if you have to reschedule which I did. They do their best to try to fit in everyone but with my schedule always in the air, I found it to be hard. 2. It can get really, really loud. As soon as the event starts there is this loud hum of everyone talking that it sounds like I've entered the animal kingdom! 3. It seems nearly all the events are during the week. Kinda of annoying as a Friday night or Saturday night event for me would work out really well. I wouldn't have to worry about m aking it there on time and would be nice to make it a girls night out with a girlfriend. 4. It would be great to have the option of a makeover or a drink. The places are super nice so drinks are super expensive. Maybe if we had the option of either or - we could decide better. 5. I don't know if this is possible, but it would be a super plus if we could know who we matched with that night. I'm not sure how this would go down, but I'm thinking I'm already out and about and if there's a guy here who I like and who likes me - why wait to get back to where we are now?!? more

It goes like this :-) 4/24/2012

It goes like this. I have never been speed dating (I'm sure everyone says that) and dug the offerings. I checked out an event in LA at a place called Makai. It's right on the beach which was cool. Everything just went smooth. I arrived, met the hosts, talked to them a bit and then we were off and running. There were a couple of more guys than gals but it wasn't a biggie. In the middle they stopped and came by with food which was a great plus cause after all the talking - I was seriously hungry. After the event you can stay, which I did, and hang out which was fun. I would say about half stayed and that was actually the best part. We could talk about this crazy thing called speed dating and gave us a chance to connect more. I don't know what other companies are like but I know I liked this one, so why bother. \r \r It's good. You should check it out.\r more

I think it's a fun way to meet people 4/20/2012

Broke up with my girlfriend and thought I would check out this service in Chicago. Went a few times with mixed results. A couple of the restaurants they hold their events in I didn't like. One was the Whiskey Sky lounge which I really liked and had never been which was cool. I find the attitude as some of the restaurants and clubs to be off putting. I don't need the bartender giving me a look because I ask for extra ice. Two of the events I attended I got a lot of matches/dates and the last one I received none. I was really on my game on the last one. :-)Been on the follow up dates and again, mixed results. I think it's a fun way to meet people but not the only way to meet people. The service is pretty good and the staff nice. I just wish they would pick different venues without attitude. more

My Experience 4/19/2012

I recently attended an event with this company in Washington DC at a place called Fruit Bat. I didn't know of the place and am glad to of found it. They are mixologists of the highest degree. I was drinking more just to taste what they would mix next. I arrived early for the event and sat at the bar watching the magicians in action. The hosts came and I talked to them as they set up for the event. A professional - nice bunch of people. Soon after people starting piling in. I met 16 ladies, all of whom I really enjoyed chatting to. Even if I didn't want to go on a second date with them I truly enjoyed talking with them and getting to know them, albeit for a short time. Fruit Bat put out appetizers which were really good. They do a fresh fruit thing with both their drinks and nearly every dish they offer. Reeeaaaalllllyyyy good! Had a really great time and would like to return again soon. more

I'd definitely recommend it. 4/15/2012

I didn't really know what to expect trying speed dating for the first time, and it ended up being cool. Really fun event, cool location (Makai). The girls that showed up were almost all cute and fun, seemed like they were industry types which was good and bad. Got matched with one which was cool. Maybe if they could throw in a free drink or two it would be even better but as a whole - I'd definitely recommend it. more

Good time and good value. 4/15/2012

I had been wanting to go Speed Dating for a while and also had friends interested in going as well. I had then changed my mind. I then saw a Groupon and reached out to my friends asking if then want to go. Hoping they would say no but of course they said yes. We went ahead and bought them. Excited that we were finally going to go scheduling was a bit of a problem because they sell out really quick and getting 4 schedules to match was tough as well. We finally had a date scheduled and were ready to go. The day came and I wanted to back out because even though I didn't know what to expect. The one we went to was at the Stone Rose. It was really nice there. The only down side was that it was outside. It was really cold out there. I wish it could have been inside. There were heat lamps though. Time went by really fast went it got started. I got to sit next to my friends so were able to be moral support for each other. It was great to meet new people and I would definitely do it again. I didn't get any matches but I am glad I went. It was an experience that I will remember. One of my friends did get a match so we will see what happens. If you are thinking about going. Go and have fun and meet new people. Don't have any expectations. Just go and have fun. The hosts were really nice and helpful. Thank you for a great experience. more

Good bloody time! (lol) Sorry I couldn't help myself. 4/10/2012

Three of my girlfriends work just down the road in the same production office. Something about slaving away in the same building really bonds you! We've been planning to go out together for a night on the town for some while now. When one of us was single, the others were not. It was starting to become an Abbott and Costello skit! Finally we were all single and ready to mingle! We had all heard of this company and thought we would finally see what all the hub bub was about. Getting tickets is a bit of a trial as they sell out really, really fast which is kind of annoying. I don't want to wait months to get my speed dating on! I want it now! Patience isn't really my thing. ;-) We ended scoring spots to the event last night at Beso restaurant in Hollywood. I went there one time for a wrap party but my girlfriends hadn't ever been. Love it, love it, love it! Everything about this place rocks! Very sweet staff, delish food and a great room to just stare at and think, how did they do that? The event was near the bar in this cool sofa/loungy/get cozy area. We hooked up with the hosts, Steve and Sasha, and got filled in with the deets. I have a huge thing for accents so I could of just left with the hosts then and called it a night! But my girlfriends insisted on actually meeting other guys. The company offers the option of a make-over before the event which was a bonus. We already did our make-up at work before we left so we just had a bit of gloss and my friend got some tips on how to get her lashes to look like mine ;-0 Soon after the others started piling in and we were off. There is something about all of this that made us really nervous and I still don't understand why. I talk with guys all the time, at the office, out at clubs and just you know - in general and I never, ever get nervous. So I don't know what was wrong with me but I was freaking out! I slapped myself and got to talking away. We all got to sit next to each other which was fun to compare notes throughout the evening. There were a ton of people there to meet so we tried to keep it short and sweet. There were a few that I really hope to meet but as it turns out so do my friends so we'll battle it out in a UFC ring! Or wait for the results to come in. None of us are the jealous type so if one of my friends get a match that I wanted, I'll be the flower girl at the wedding. The night goes by super fast. There are appetizers served at different times throughout the evening which comes in handy in case your talking to someone that you don't want to match with. Boy are these good! Wow! These are soooooo tasty! All good lines. At the end of the night the hosts pick up your scorecard and invite you to stay longer to mingle which we did. I made a bee line for the host and my girlfriends talked more with some of the others in the group. I never thought I would go speed dating but I'm so glad we did. It wasn't what I expected and I still have no idea why I got so nervous. Could of been the host I don't know. Oh those accents! Pros: Great restaurant, nice hosts, sweeet daters. Cons: Can't date the hosts. All in all we all had a really good time. One thing I would like to see is more weekend events. We never know if we are going to be kept late at the office so a Saturday night event would work out really well. I asked the host when we left about them and he wasn't sure if any were on the horizon so we'll see. more

Speed dating is a life experience! 4/10/2012

Speed dating is a life experience! Ok - that might be a slight exaggeration :=) But it was such a fun and unique night and I've tried several companies, but speedladating was the one I preferred. They're super popular so that makes for a lot of daters which is why were here, to meet lots and lots of folks. \r \r The hosts are friendly, the food at the event was really good, the bar had a promo for Absolut so there were plenty of shots for everyone to enjoy, the bartenders were super cool and I had a great time.\r more

Friendly staff and great selection of singles in their even 4/7/2012

I went to SpeedLA events few times; it is a great way to meet local singles in town. Among all the speed dating companies in San Francisco Bay area SpeedLA is one of the best. Friendly staff and great selection of singles in their events. Events are usually held in really nice and convenience places in SF. If you are tired of hanging out at random singles bars and online dating definitely you should try this, it is more fun! Seriously though, you meet a lot of people doing this and it was a good time. It's especially nice if you're trying to get back into the swing of things, as those first few ""real dates"" can be super awkward, so this helps you get all that out of the way. The girl hosting it was pretty damn funny too, so that helps the evening along.Definitely would recommend this to other people. I'd like to see events that are in more areas. It's sometimes hard to get in to SoMA with traffic and all so more variations and Oakland would be a great addition. more

SCAM ALERT: TRASHY ANGRY HYENAS WITH BRITISH ACCENTS! 4/4/2012

FIRST...GET READY FOR 100 THUMBS DOWN, CAUSE THESE PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO ALL DAY! - I went to a speed dating event. didn't like it. Wrote them an honest and bad review. - Tina called me (three times) and i let her vent (and insult me over the phone). She said ""I know who you are, You are an international writer, we've googled you!"" and threatened to hurt me and my online image if I didn't take down my review. - Tina then went on Yelp and wrote a response to my review that was hilarious and full of lies. She (or another SpeedLA rep) will likely do the same on this site and make allegations about me. - Tina then decided to start stalking me. I received emails from her and her team ""Oxford Productions"" they just wouldn't let it go. - After i ignored these messages, threats and phone calls, Tina (and friends) stalked me online. I had hour long visits from IP addresses linked to SpeedLA locations in both Marina del Rey and San Diego! Creepy! - As if the online stalking wasn't creepy enough, her and her team purchased all three of my books online. Within less than 12 hours from their purchase, they were already harassing me that i was running a SCAM business because i hadn't sent them their merchandise. - In less than 16 hours from their purchase, all three of them were fully refunded by me through Paypal. - I continued to receive threatening emails from these people saying that my ""business"" was a SCAM and that they received no such refund. I spoke to Paypal and refund had been issued almost instantanously. - I contacted Paypal to be clear on my rights as a seller! Was able to block these crazies. - I have been receiving messages from fake accounts created by SpeedLADating about insulting comments i allegedly made. Funny all these random messages seem to have British lingo and very similar vocabularies?!?! - After i thought i was done with Tina and the other SpeedLa weirdos, Anoush Stevenson (the supposed owner) emailed me saying she wanted to help and requesting ""evidence"" but her ""nice"" attitude quickly turned insulting, accusatory and unprofesisonal i asked her to STOP. She continued to message me and CC me in threads of messages. IN CONCLUSION: - They create the drama and then they pursue it and then they turn it around and say you are the bully and the harasser! You are the problem. The reason SpeedLa didn't work for you is because there is something wrong with YOU, not them. There is nothing Elegant or Sophisitcated or Refined about this business. SpeedLa Dating claims to be from the land of Lady D, Windsor Castle and afternoon tea parties but i suspect they they must have gotten the ""boot"" from their motherland for being an embarrassment to Britain. UPDATE! - I have successfully blocked Tina and SpeedLA members from making any future purchases. I filed a restraining order against Tina. Spammed all emails from Anoush Stevenson, and am in the process of blocking their IP addresses from accessing my website. WHAT YOU CAN DO? Read up reviews on other sites where more than half of the reviewers complain about having been harassed by SpeedLA Dating. Make sure to read the regular reviews as well as ""filtered"" reviews, 90% of which also claim harassment. And i wouldn't be surprised if their high rating on CitySearch is due to SpeedLA also filtering and reporting messages that tell the truth about their unprofessional practices. City Searchers! Stay clear and AWAY! You will waste a day or two having to deal with trashy unprofessional people. MOST IMPORTANT! If you share a similar experience please be sure to report this SCAM to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). It takes just a few minutes and hopefully will put an end to this harassment and save future daters from a series of unfortunate events! more

The Truth about SpeedNY Dating 4/4/2012

I went we a friend to the event and it was over packed, very young crowd and exteremly disorganized. They clam to be differnt from the rest and they are because it was pretty much a basic social gathering and you spoke to whom ever you pleased and now and then they grabed the guy your speaking with and moved them. Plus you do not get a change to met everyone so what is the point of going to SpeedNY Dating when its like going to a bar or lounge. Also, one of the guy told me that he always attend their events because he gets invited for free and he was asked to bring male friends because they didnt have enough guys for the event. If this doesnt proves disorganized i dont know what will! Dont waste your time with this company! more

Had a Blast... 3/30/2012

I went with no expectations and by the end of the night I was having a Blast... I would definitely recommend anyone looking to have a night out and meet different people or even looking for that someone special..who knows..!?!?! I do have a recommendation, why not have meetings on the weekends? Overall you must try it, at least once in your life!!! more

Fun Night 3/20/2012

A few years ago I attended a dating event with this company and had a really great time. A few months later I decided to give my ex boyfriend another shot. Cut to this year when I remembered all the reasons why we broke up in the first place. Back on the scene L-) I thought I would give Speedla a go again and I am glad I did. Same sweet hosts and same great service which made for another fun night out. I recently moved to Laguna so I can't get up to LA as often as I would like so going to events can be a challenge. But when I can, I am always glad I did. If you just broke up with your ex boyfriend, looking to get back at your ex boyfriend or looking for a new ex boyfriend, this can not be missed. Ta ta :-) more

SpeedNY Dating 3/17/2012

Attended their March 12th session at Crema (111 W 17th St), the location was fine, unremarkable but nothing wrong with the place; as for the ladies in attendance, wow, adorable! Bring up your game guys :) more

Great experience! 3/11/2012

Being new to Los Angeles, a friend of mine and I decided to attend a Speed Dating event to meet new people. We searched google, and came across SpeedLA Dating. I have nothing but good things to say about this company and their events. Since the first event, I have decided to use the service again. I have attended multiple events at both STK and Geisha House. The owner and staff have been extremely friendly, and I always enjoy conversing with them. I have never had any problems with any of the events I attended, and have always left meeting some new people. The events are fun and have great icebreakers to strike up conversation with each date. Highly recommended, check it out! I was skeptical to try this at first, but have been extremely happy with the company I chose, and everyone I meet at the events has the same thing to say. more

A fun time meeting new people 3/11/2012

Well it was my first time taking part in a speed dating event. Just moved out to the LA area a few months ago and saw an ad for speed la dating. I finally decided to give it a try and glad I did. When I got to the venue I really didnt know what to expect at all. The set up was nice. I thought it would be awkward having 5-6 minute conversations with different women but it was alot easier and more fun than i expected. The time actually flew by and seemed short since I was having a good time. It was organized really well and all the people were really nice. The two hosts were really great organizing the event. I definitely would go to another one of their events as its a great way to network and meet others in the area. So if you're thinking about trying out one of the events you definitely should as its a lot of fun, easy going, and you never know who you might meet. more

Girls show up... it's great! 3/3/2012

These guys know what they're doing! They try to match you up with as many people as possible, and it's up to you to make a good impression, and flirt properly to get the results you want. I have two suggestions. 1. Make more times during weekends. Most of the times are during the week it's hard to fit into my work schedule. 2. Narrow the ages into more brackets. Right now it's 24 - 38 which is quite a large gap. Maybe have 20's night. and 30's night. Having said all that, they still deserve 4 stars. I've done a lot of speed dating. I'm a speed dating connoisseur. And SpeedLADating is Dom Perignon. more

I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It 2/24/2012

This was my first attempt at speed dating and I have to say, I couldn't have been happier with the outcome. There were plenty of girls and all of them were extremely nice and sociable so I didn't have any of those first date awkward moments. By the next day I had a several phone numbers and ended up with a few dates. Also I like the places they pick for these speed dating events as they usually have good drink specials and even better food. more
