When we bought our home in 2010, I thoroughly vetted the local companies that sold and serviced heat pumps in the greater Portland/Vancouver area. I found Specialty Heating & Cooling Inc., 7500 SW Tech Center Dr #130,Tigard, OR 97223. The heat pump we had was original one from 1987. It still worked, but my wife really deserved an updated unit to help her with her severe environmental allergies. After contacting several potential choices, I picked the most professional and best-rated company to replace the old heat pump. It was an expensive purchase, but we got what we paid for from Specialty Heating and Cooling. Bill Matheis brought his laptop and took us through the entire hi-tech process of choosing the best system for Pam's allergies within our budget. In addition, his office staff provided all the tax-related energy saving credits that were available at the time and provided all the necessary forms and proofs we needed. Specialty Heating and Cooling has programs in place to secure the health of their products into the future. We were the beneficiary of one incident that caused a component to fail. The part was free (warranty), and they charged reasonable labor to replace the component. We also have an Energy Savings Account that allows up to maintain our heat pump with a free filter and bi-annual maintenance visits by their top notch technicians. We choose to pay monthly to avoid the impact of expenses on our annual cash flow. Since we had the system installed in November of 2010, we have our energy consumption dialed into a mark that is affordable for us. Our heat pump failed. An initial review showed an easy fix. The installer stayed a while to see if the fix worked but the easy fix failed. Much investigation showed some more major problems and we had the unit replaced. We've 2 had problems since which ended with the whole outside unit being replaced again because it was seen as faulty. When the unit was first replaced a maintenance agreement was included so we haven't had to paid additional fees. Rob has been an excellent service provider, extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to making the customer happy and the company seems to have a lot of integrity, dedicated to doing the right thing. I would definitely recommend them. more

Got my furnace serviced and the tech was very professional. However, after he left, my furnace was blowing cold air. After speaking to a tech over the after hours assist line, we found out the tech forgot to turn a switch on. The after hours tech was very quick on getting back to me and helpful. Overall a good company. more

Our heat pump went belly up during the coldest part of the year. Specialty Heating gave me several options for a replacement and let me decide which cost level to choose with no pressure to pick a certain one. They installed it on a day the rest of the area was closed down due to ice. They literally did not leave me out in the cold. more

Robert came and quickly diagnosd the problem with my geothermal furnace--dirty filter and extremely cold weather. Said I could drop by and pick up filters at your business. Came to business; didn't have filters, computer records initially unclear about which were needed. Asked to return later; filters were ready, one was comped (thank you) for my trouble. We have been customers of Specialty Heating for a number of years. We began with them after having a heat pump installed in our home by ANOTHER COMPANY. In hot weather, the heat pump would freeze up and we would get no air conditioning at all. After several attempts to have that company fix the problem, we called Specialty Heating. In no time at all, they correctly diagnosed the problem and what was needed to fix it. We have had absolutely no problems with our system ever since. We are on their annual maintenance schedule -- twice a year -- and love it. This company definitely knows its stuff!! more

Salesman was very knowledgeable and customer friendly. Would work with him any time. Installers were a little messy as far as clean up. They left insulation and dirt throughout the house area they worked in and on the walkway/driveway. I was told they would clean up before they departed, but that did not happen. more

Tuesday (1/10) night during the recent snowstorm the fan motor quit on my furnace and I was looking at several days of no heat with very cold temperatures predicted. I looked on the Nextdoor app for my neighborhood and there were several recommendations for Specialty Heating. Matt was oncall Tuesday night and gave me advice about what to do. Wednesday (1/11) I was told that they didn't have any crews working that day because of the storm. Thursday (1/12) morning I got a call that a technician would be out that afternoon to fix my fan. Kurt came out and diagnosed and replaced the motor that day and it has been working great ever since. Thank you for excellent and timely service! more
