There were some good things about this salon, so I'll start there. The parking, even on a Sunday, was plentiful. They offered me a freshly-brewed coffee right away, and it was tru...

I won't go anywhere else. 7/10/2008

Although I really should go to supercuts (just finished grad school and I'm broke!), I'm really picky about my hair. Its one of the things I will spend money on. I started going to Sit Still last summer, after finding them on the internet. I love the atmosphere--very laid-back and unpretentious. Their products are pricey (whose aren't?), but go the distance and perform really well (at least the UNITE line, which I love and use every day). Kazumi is my regular stylist, and I like getting something unique and ""just me"" every time I see her. However, I had to go in on short notice yesterday, and was recommended Tommy.\r \r Tommy did a wonderful job on my short, processed, previously botched (from a bargain basement hairstylist) hair. I had partial highlights and a haircut for under 200$, which I think is pretty good for the value. This is the best haircut I've gotten since, well, last time Kazumi cut my hair last summer! I'm glad to be back in LA, although it's going to be difficult to choose whether to book with Tommy or Kazumi--or any of the other fab stylists at sit still! Pros: products, staff, location--get what you pay for. Cons: a little pricey (but everywhere is)... too hard to pick a stylist! more

Above and Beyond 7/4/2008

I just can't say enough about how thrilled I was when I left the salon. Ok, so I work for a living. Not an easy desk job were I can come and go as I please. There is no chance for me to go into a salon for a cut and color at 2 in the afternoon. I was desperately trying to make an appointment somewhere before I left for a wedding. But I still had to work. I called over a dozen places in the Santa Monica area. No place could get me in and most places wanted to close early so they weren't even willing to stay until their salon closed... even though I was about to spend over $200! I called Sit Still and explained that I needed the latest appointment possible, yada, yada, yada. A stylist stepped up and said no problem. Merrelle was so great. Once I got the appointment I started getting worried that I might be rushed out of there. She was patient, we had a great consultation and I let her do her thing. She gave me really amazing highlights. They blended right in to my natural hair. Then she gave me a nice trim with great layers. I was just so happy with the whole appointment I didn't even care how much the bill was at the end. She was just so calm and never rushed, and was never flustered even when the guy started cleaning and sweeping around her, getting ready to close. The only time she checked the clock was to check on my highlights. Merrelle was just fantastic and I will go to her again and again. It's so hard to find people who love what they do, as I do about my job. She was just fantastic! Pros: Amazing highlights, dedicated stylists Cons: a bit pricey... but where isn't it? more

Thanks Audrey! 6/28/2008

I have an enjoyed many a haircut with Ms. Audrey at Sit Still in Santa Monica/ Venice. She has very good instinct with hair - and I trust her implicity each time I go in. Fun, hip, casual vibe at Sit Still. more

I Found My New Salon! 6/16/2008

I just moved here from TX and the thought of going to an expesnsive, uptight salon terified me. A girlfriend at school has been going to Sit Still for a few years now and highly recommended the salon. She goes to Mandee and her hair looks great - Mandee was booked (shucks) so I went to Tommy instead and I am so happy, I love my hair! Obviously everyone there really know what they are doing. Plus, you cant beat their first time offers! more

Non-pretentious and hip(atmosphere and prices)....walk out like a movie star!!! 5/14/2008

Sit Still itself is completely chill... ie flip flops, gym shorts, byob. It's even pet friendly! All of the peeps there are friendly, nice and non-pretentious! If you are looking for a nice cut or color at a decent price, look no further than Main Street. MEL...I have been very loyal to Mel for many reasons...#1, she listens, #2, she remembers. She is sweet as pie, just a down to earth german girl. Her cuts are what you are looking for...it can be edgy and completely new to you OR it could be the same-old, same-old trim to keep the locks growing. Her color totally on target, and the highlighting skills are fab with a range from skinny to phat or chunky or layering of the colors. Many of the peeps working there are from other countries, so you can discuss cool things should you ever want to visit Germany, England, New Zealand, Australia or the UK. It's a great place at a great price and also very convenient, with great customer service and no silly charges for re-scheduling, being late etc. Go for it!! You will become a regular. Pros: anything you can think of if are a cool person more

Go see Audrey!!! 4/2/2008

I recently relocated to Venice and was putting off finding a new stylist as long as possible. It's just tough to find a salon you like, with decent prices and professional friendly staff. I am so thrilled that I decided to try Sit Still, and specifically, Audrey. She really listens, is upbeat and fun, takes her time but doesn't take forever either. She gave me amazing color, a very cool and updated haircut and tips on how to wear it different ways. And she's highly entertaining with great energy. I went in as a plain jane and came out fresh and fab! Go see Audrey at Sit Still! Pros: professional, cool setting, great value, skilled & friendly stylist Cons: none! more

MEL IS MY #2 DEFENSE AGAINST AGING!! 3/31/2008

My #1 defense against aging is using sunblock on my face every single day, no exceptions. But Mel is my #2 because she's a genius with color. I'm 56 and have genetically crappy hair. Mel does this thing with three or four colors that makes it look all healthy and glimmery. I actually get compliments from strangers. She's great with my cut, too, and she's sweet, smart, patient and funny. \r \r The salon itself is cool--but not intimidating--and the people have always been friendly. Pros: Mel is great and the atmosphere is comfy even for a non-rock-star like me. Cons: I can't think of any, except maybe street parking--but there's a garage on the same block. more

Mandee is the best! 3/24/2008

I am in between jobs and decided to color my own hair. Well it turned yellow! So I read all the reviews and made a appointment this past saturday to have Mandee do a color correction. She knew exactly what she was doing and my hair looks great! She gave me highlights and put some low lights in it too. My hair has never looked better. I will never color my own hair again and will only allow Mandee to do it from now on! Thank you sit still! Pros: Mandee is great and they have wine Cons: parking more

Can't say enough about Jennifer! 3/7/2008

I needed to get highlights and a trim and wanted to try a new place, since my old hair stylist didn't do a great job the last few times. I saw Jennifer had great reviews on this site, so I called Sit Still to make an appointment with her. Jennifer took time to listen to what I wanted and then she recommended a few things. She wound up doing highlights and a few lowlights which made my hair look so much more vibrant than it's ever looked! Her cut was great and the best part is it looks great even when I style it. I'm so happy I went to Jennifer, I love my hair now and I will absolutely be back to see her. Pros: Jennifer knows her stuff Cons: the products seemed a little cheap more

AWESOME..... 3/4/2008

i had MESSED UP hair...really bad. normally i have brunette hair, died it blond a year ago and have ever since just not taken good care of it (dry, split ends, etc). My roots were showing (2 inches) when I walked in on friday at 6pm. I wanted it only cut, but after sitting down with Mandee for 5 Minutes she made me see just HOW damaged my hair was. She said it would be a shame to let me leave with a cute haircut but with this color a=on my head ( I love their honesty). So she suggested to go brunette (even colored it twice to make sure it will not turn green or something). She gave me the cutest cut EVER and the hair color just ROCKS. thanks so much. Paid not nearly as much as I thought I would. It took 1.5 hours (dying and cut and consultation).\r thanks so much...I will be back in 5 weeks....\r Geny Pros: great consultation, awesome color and cute haircuts, very skilled people, they did NOT try to sell me their products YAY Cons: music little bit too loud and not my taste, but i am sensitive *hehe* more

Mel MEl MEL!! 2/24/2008

So.... I moved to LA from Chicago 2 months ago and was a bit nervous about being able to find a hairstylist here. In Chicago, I frequented my fellow Roller Derby Girls hair salon establishments and was on the search for something similar here. I recently met a fellow co-workers wife, whose hair and style is akin to mine. Her hair was beautifully cut, black with raging red chunks. Woah...Where do you get your hair done? Was told Sit Still and Mel is the gal. I called up on a Monday or a Tuesday and asked when I could come in. Had a cancellation ....How about coming in tonight @ 6:30pm. Schweet. My hair was getting seriously out of control. I met Mel. She is so welcoming and listened to what I had to say but offers great advice when I wasn't too sure which direction to take with certain aspects. By the way, she has the longest natural eyelashes I have ever seen. off topic i know but just had to say. She was very excited to get to it and do something different. Black with blue. Think updated funky Louise Brooks styling. She is the most thorough unhurried hairstylist I have ever had work on my hair before. The color: Foils and bleach for an almost highlight effect that once was done was applied with midnight blue manic panic. *which by the by, she gave me the remainder of the manic panic bottle for me to reapply until it was time to come back. The haircut: Her exacting skills were expertly applied to my bob and especially on my bangs, which have never been exactly right. It was beautiful. have NEVER received so many compliments from strangers and friends alike. She said if I need a clean up on my bangs or the neck to call and and come in. No charge. Didn't think that has ever been offered to me before. **I did stop by 3 weeks later and she sure enough fixed up my bangs even better than the 1st time she cut them. Seriously, check this talented hairstylist out. MEL thank you and will be coming back soon!\r Trace B. Pros: Fabulous stylist with amazing skills Cons: This was MY bad but be careful if you park in the garage after late hours...you could get locked in if you go 2 or more levels down. more

Audrey Rocks! 2/21/2008

Audrey makes me laugh. The girl is hysterical! She made me feel really comfortable. She took her time with my haircut and it really shows. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it and it seems to be growing in nicely. I definitely reccomend Audrey. I'll be back to Sit Still for sure. more

Bobby is Amazing! 2/21/2008

I was recommended Bobby by friend of mine. I wanted to cut a good amount of my hair off because I wanted a completely new look, but, I was a little nervous about it. Not only did he make me feel completely comfortable about making a change, he gave me the best haircut I have ever had in my entire life! I really felt like he paid attention to everything I wanted and gave it to me. Now I am recommending him to all of my friends. Pros: Excellent Service, Fun Atmosphere more

Nice cut, ok service, receptionist/stylist inconsistency. 2/17/2008

First of all, I am real...because you guys tend to ask. I went in to try something new and with all the great reviews...I thought why not for a $44 intro cut plus at the time they were offering the peppermint scalp treatment and a wine or expresso drink. The receptionist was polite and said they were booked until Christmas but she could put me in right after. I asked her if the intro offer/scalp treatment still applied and she said yes. I was put with Kazumi. I wasn't offered anything to drink like that of the other reviewers but still went with the flow. And when I asked, the receptionist said they only had old coffee maybe with nothing to put in it or water. At least they had pretty good music playing. Kazumi was very sweet and told lots of great stories. I loved her energy. There was no peppermint scalp treatment and when I mentioned it, I am not sure she knew what I was talking about. I was a little embarrassed and let it go. My cut was pretty good with the technique was almost razor-like to cut in layers. It made my hair super frizzy but the shape is actually very nice...I just have to put tons of product on it now and spend more time but it still looks good. When it came time to pay...the cost was not $44 but $91!!! Kazumi felt bad for me as the receptionist had quoted that price to me because she was one of the senior stylists and that intro deal does not apply for her. She complained a bit but still knocked $25 off her $91 service. I was totally embarrassed but still grateful even though I am not sure why because I had been quoted $44. Never the less....I wanted to get out of there so I tipped her huge and left. I liked Kazumi's personality alot and the cut was pretty good so I may come back again with the hopes that they were just having an off night in the other areas of service. I just hope I get the hospitality and special offers the others get next time...even a drink would have been nice...a peppermint scalp treatment...even nicer! Pros: Kazumi has a great personality and even better cutting skills. Cons: Pricey and they do not stick to their special offer promotions. Plus, the hospitality was not consistant with their pricing. I expected better. more

So sad, so sad 2/17/2008

Reality check... :( \r It's gone down hill. Don't believe me?, just go look at the place for yourself. These posts on Citysearch are fake (not including this one). There are some very creative stylists there.Years ago Sit Still had character, now the place is dull. It should be called ""Stiff Still"". Again, so sad to see. I feel sorry for them. I have been going there for a few years on and off. Most color&cuts were great, now I just think the place doesn't care. It's usually a mess, but I tollerated because I am a loyal Venice gal, but geewizz, where the heck is my money going? Surely not into the place...needless to say, I won't be returning. Pros: Location, Skill (just a few) Cons: Overall appearance & cleanliness more

Jennifer is great! 2/11/2008

I went to get my haircut fixed by her over the weekend. I had a bad haircut that took 2 months to grow out, and Jennifer did an mazing job! She listens, is very friendly, easy going and a great hairdresser. She recommended a color for me, I think I have to come back to her for it! You'll love her! more

Charlie...oh, Charlie. 2/3/2008

After meeting a girl with the cutest haircut, she recommended Charlie at Sit Still--he'd been cutting her hair for years. I took the plunge, and ended up with one of the best haircuts of my life! I love it...perfect cut complimenting my fine but wavy hair. I highly recommend Charlie at Sit Still! more

Mel is the best 2/3/2008

Mel is the best hair stylist. She surprises me every time. She opens a different ""me"" . I was looking for a hair stylist for a long time but once I saw what Mel can do, I only go to her more

Stylist with an Eye...Bobby 1/11/2008

My family and I were on a recent business trip in the area. I stopped in for a ""trim"". I'm a Mom of a 7 month old , and look it!! One color and a ponytail is my life. My 7 month old has a natural mohawk and my husband refuses to cut his hair even though it looks terrible long! Bobby helped us and I mean all of us. My hair is a strawberry blonde color, he gave me brown and blonde high, and low lights, cut layers in my hair and gave me bangs, I look 10 years younger! My son couldn't stop touching my hair! He trimmed my son's hair and offered a keepsake box to put in the hair from his first cut (unfortunately there wasn't enough hair to keep) He even shaped my husbands hair, keeping it long, but with a style, it looks great! I loved the shampoo and conditioner he used on us and bought them too, your salon is great and Bobby's vision of hair is right on target, he is a natural. I have never had so many compliments, I try to keep my hair down as much as possible, but even ponytail days look great! Heather the receptionist was as sweet as she looks, she kept my son entertained while I was in the chair, all of the staff were wonderful and friendly to us, (they all wanted to put gel in my son's mohawk hair!!) Thank-you...we are hoping to get out there again soon! Susan, Steve and Baby Dominick. NY more

L.A. Best Kept Secret 12/28/2007

\r I'm a little torn about writing my review, everyone SHOULD know about the GREAT work Jennifer does at Sit Still but deep down I really don't want to share her. I have long wavy/curly brown hair that can be a little plane and boring. Jennifer dazzled my do with beautiful highlights, nothing too drastic that made me unrecognizable just enough to liven up my everyday look. She's the best and I've recommended her to all of my girlfriends!\r more
