Best

There is usually a long wait, but it is well worth it. Simple as that.

Worst

For those of you who are loyal and have read only positive reviews, I would have had one to give you a month ago. The staff and the service have tumbled terribly downhill; it is n...

WONDERFUL 5/3/2007

I have alot of animals, and they all go to shively. I have never had bad treatment by anyone. I am more fond of Dr. Joyce as she saved my long haired doxys life. They have sat in the floor with me when I had to put a dog down, and were very patient with my mother when her dog was extremely ill. I recommend them to everyone. They give you every option, and support your decision. I can't say enough good about them. more

Shively Animal the Best 5/1/2007

Been going there for years, so has my family. Have had cats and dogs both treated on a regular basis and emergency basis. Best care in town, allows you to call in at night to check on your "baby" - kind, caring, intelligent - best "animal pediatric" care going. more

Not very impressed 4/16/2007

When I first moved to Louisville, I looked up a bunch of different vets and finally settled on Shively because of all the praise it got. When I finally took my dogs and cat I was happily surprised at the low cost. A few months later I acquired a Boxer puppy that I was planning to show. I took her to Shively to get her ears cropped. The surgery when fine, but the aftercare was terrible. During the two weeks my Boxer had the E-Collar and post-surgery bandages on, she managed to shake loose the frame that was holding her ears up. I called Shively to make sure that was normal and the answer I got was a rude and unfeeling "Yes, it's fine."After the post-surgery bandages came off, my Boxer still had to wear a frame to train the ears to stand. I took her back once a week for a reframe and not once did I see the vet, I did not get any information about the progress and the worst part was the fact that they shoved my 4 month old puppy into a kennel and forgot about her for 2 hours while I was w more

The wait is worth the service! 4/10/2007

Yes the wait is long. Ask anyone who takes their pet to Shively on a regular basis and they will all say the very same thing.... ""it's worth it"". I have tried many other clinics, for we all want the best care for our babies right? Well, Shively offers you that and then some. They are extremely knowledgable, friendly and compassionate. They are the cheapest clinic in town and if that isn't enough... they work with you on the bill! How many vets do that these days? \r My dog is deathly allergic to fleas. I have tried different vets, different treatments and it was Dr. David at Shively that helped him get the best and final regular treatment. He gets a new flea allergy shot once a month. No more spending numorous dollars on different expensive foods, dips, topicals, and such. Just a shot. I have referred everyone I know there and I have heard NO ONE complain about the service they have received. For those of you who live close, they offer another wonderful service. (Yes it does get better.) You can sign in and they will call you when you are next in to see the doctor!!!! This is great for night-shifters, mothers, care givers, and even the person who can't be around alot of people in one room. \r Well, I think I have told enough of this secret place, time for you to find out for yourself. Pros: Compassion, cheap fees, pymts arrangements, no aapt. needed, many vets to chose from. (I could go on forever) Cons: Long wait. more

Great Vets 3/17/2007

We deal with alot of veterinarians in town since we own a commercial kennel. When ever we have a customer with a serious problem we send them to shively animal. They truelly are a loving and caring group of people who care about the animals and the customer. They have always helped every customer we have sent and many times find the problems that others have missed. Tops in our eyes.\r \r All About Pets Animal Resort more

Finally an Animal Clinic that Doesn't cost an Arm and a Leg! 6/27/2006

I have had two pets we have taken into Shively, a cat and a dog. We took the cat in yesterday to get his yearly shots and it only cost us $19. They are always very professional and very kind to me and my cat. The only down-side is that every time I have been I have had to wait for at least an hour. But they give you the option of leaving and if you come back after they have called you in, you are at the front of the list. For our dog we went in and didn't even have the dog with us and came back two hours later and got in right away. PROS: Experienced Staff, Low Cost CONS: Long Wait Time more

Life savers 5/20/2006

About 10 years ago,my dog Yogi had contracted parvo and the great folks at Shively said he had to go into the hospital immediately & to not worry about the cost, we would work it out.\r \r Over the next few days they called me several times a day with updates and asked me to come visit him and bring some familiar things including his regular food because they were worried about him being away from me.\r \r They gave us a private room where Yogi and I visited for a while and he returned to the hospital.\r \r Yogi had a dramatic improvement after that and he was cured from this life threatening disease and came home within a couple more days.\r \r We worked out the bill over time and they were very helpful and accomodating.\r \r They also took great care of him when his leg was crushed by a car a couple years later. He got completely back to normal.\r \r He is still alive and a very happy pup. \r \r They have been great with my best friend. There is not another vet I would ever take my pets to. more

Shively Animal Clinic &Hospital 12/18/2005

This place saved the life of our little puppy! He was only 6mos when he got a virus and had been vomiting and had diarreah and was not able to keep anything down. A friend told us to take him to Shively Animal Clinic and thank God we did because he would not have lived through the night. They immediately gave him fluids but the vomiting continued and he had to have surgery because his intestine had collapsed from dehydration. He remained in the hospital for a week in intensive care. I was very impressed with the care he received from all the staff and the bill was not near as much as I had expected. I Highly recommend this place and all the wonderful careing staff of Shively Animal Clinic. PROS: Best and most reasonable priced place in town! CONS: I wish there was a Clinic closer more

I had to take my pet here once, and when I did, I really liked the treatment. The staff was very understanding, and since it was an emergency, they took me right back. The Vet was very good to making me and family feel better. Our dog was hit by a car, and they did everything. Wonderful people there. Very busy at times when i have driven by, but in emergencys, you are seen very fast! Great Service PROS: Great Service CONS: more
