I would NEVER recommend Shafer - they replaced two systems for me in 2006 and they have been nothing but money pits. They are overpriced, can have poor customer service and the flow of cash into them never seems to stop - in 6 years there have been 3 motor and compressor replacements and they do not look at the client holistically. I will say some of their techs are very good and nice but there should never be this many problems with new systems they recommended and installed - look elsewhere. more

Arguementive Plumber 7/31/2012

I called to make an appointment and the service person was on time. Upon arrival I described the issue and he wrote up a quote for over $400. I signed the estimate thinking it would take him several hours to fix the issue. After 30 minutes he left, went to Home Depot to buy $30 worth of PVC and then spent 45 minutes making the repair. In other words MAKE SURE YOU ASK WHAT THE BILLING RATE IS FOR YOUR JOB. I got taken to the cleaners and will not recommend these guys to anyone. more

Not To Be Trusted 4/25/2012

Called the office to get a quote on approximate cost of getting a 50 ft. sewer line auger. Wouldn't even give me the info unless I let them come out. Other plumbing companies gave me a quote over the phone. My experience is that when they say, "the price is up to the plumber", you are going to get overly charged. more

Shafer Services has been GREAT to work with! When our air conditioner bit the dust in June, they helped us stay cool with a temporary unit and worked diligently to secure a new one for us. In August when our water heater died, we knew the only people to call on were Shafer Services. The technicians are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We have been very happy working with Shafer Services. more

I have used Shafer three times for various plumbing issues. Everyone was very professional. They took the time to explain everything being done. I have recommended them to everyone I know. I wish there were more businesses like them. They know what they are doing, and their work is first class. more

Great Experience With Shafer 3/1/2011

We have used Shafer for years. The Shafer family does outstanding heating, air conditioning and plumbing work for many of our neighbors also. We have always been very pleased with the prompt and professional services they offer. Chris & Brian always take good care of us protecting our home and keeping us comfortable. They always give us options and pricing before they begin any work. We would never call anyone else for our service needs. We are members of their Service Plan and we love the FREE heat, air and plumbing check-ups offered to us each year. more

I've used Shafer for several years and have been satisfied with their work. I called after hours one time and the owner was taking the after hours calls. We discussed my problem and he advised me it was not a plumbing problem. He saved me a service call and I was able to get the service professional I needed to correct my problem. more

We have used Shaffer Services for many years. Most recently we had new ductwork placed to upgrade and provide better service. We were very pleased with their punctuality, professionalism and workmanship. Although when they left they left blown insulation in the inside of the house, all other work was excellent and we are pleased. We will continue to use them. Thank you, Shafer! more

Shafer Services 8/14/2010

We called Shafer Services because we had no hot water. They came out and did a diagnostic on our water heater and said the upper heating element was bad. They charged $380 to put a new one in. Chris G said it would take about 45 minutes for the water to heat up. The next morning our water was ice cold still no hot water. We called Shafer and they sent out a different plumber who told us that we have no electricity going to the unit and that our breaker was bad and to call an electrician. We called an electrician to come out ( which cost us an additional $163 on a saturday) and he told us we HAVE electricity at the unit and pulled the electric panel off and said there is nothing wrong with our breaker! We had to call another plumber out as we still had no hot water and he told us we just needed to press the reset button. The guys from Shafer should have known to do this! Instead they were lazy or didn't know and cost us an additional $163.00 for the electrician and another $164 fo more

Very Disappointed with their Pricing 7/7/2010

We have used Shafer Services for years at three different residences. We won't be any more. We called out Shafer to solder a water pipe that had broken on the outside of our condo. My husband had already removed the siding and determined that the pipe was broken and needed to be soldered. Shafer came out and gave us a quote of $380. We told them no and paid the $49 service call visit. They called back and said that they had used the wrong estimate sheet and the price should be $280. We also refused service. The work amounted to less than 30 minutes and there was no material needed other than solder and labor. I was very disappointed with their price gouging and will look for someone else for all future work. more

Excellent service 3/15/2010

Dean L came to perform service in our units. Outstanding service. His attitude was very pleasant and courteous. He was very knowledgeable.\r The phone representative was very nice and kept me posted of the changes and things that were happening before Dean arrived to my home.\r This is the first time I deal with Shafer and it has been the best company for this kind of service.\r Something that I like about your representatives is that you are not pushy, you let us decide what we want to do after sharing your expertise on what is necessary to improve our home using your services. more

Shafer Services provided great professional service . 8/15/2009

. \r We had duct work replaced (after 24 years) and R38 insulation installed in April. It is very apparent by our electric bills that this was a very good move.The past two very hot months have each been over $50 less than our last year's bills.So a ton of thanks Shafer Services, the proof is in the numbers!! more

Don't use Shaffer 7/27/2009

Had an A/c compressor problem...called Shaffer...the tech showed up and quoted me a crazy marked up price...does he not know about this thing called the internet...tried to charge me 600 dollars for a part I can go and get for 100 dollars. Avoid Shaffer at all costs...just another rip off company. Cons: Very bad pricing more

Watch out! Helpful at first glance, but way overpriced! 7/21/2009

We had several plumbing problems pop up at once. One example was the need for a new water heater. Shafer gave us an estimate for a surprising $1200 for replacement. I thought that it was pricier than expected, but paid for the service. I just found out that my current home needs the very same work and my estimate is $624 from another plumbing service. Half the price of Shafer. Unfortunately we also had 2 toilets replaced by Shafer, who said at that time that the ones we had just installed were not put in correctly. For two replacement toilets the bill came to $1700! The plumber we just had the house inspected by said that they would need to repair the way the toilets were installed because they were done incorrectly. So now, Shafer charged a fortune and did not install brand new toilets correctly! I will write another review shortly - we had Shafer fix a leak under the house and the cost was insane - come to find out, the same house has another leak they did not find with the same remedy - we will see what the new estimate comes in at, and I will let you know. I will give you Shafers price and they new estimate amount. Avoid this company at all costs. Get second opinions and other estimates by honest companies. We have several rental houses, and Shafer will never get another call. Also, this work was done six months ago, we kept calling them for a bill so we could take care of the work, and we just got the bill this week! F- in every aspect. Quality of work, Price, Honesty, and Timeliness. Pros: Were quick to come out. Cons: Almost criminally overpriced. more

Not Good for Minor Plumbing Repairs 2/4/2009

I asked this company to send out a plumber to repair a leak in my tub faucet. Because the original faucet manufacturer is no longer in business, I couldn't find the typical small wrench, normally included in a faucet repair kit, to open the case to replace the o-rings and gaskets. I thought a plumber would have a variable wrench to open the case. A plumber, with his assistant, told me it would cost $172 to repair the leak, in addition to the $49 fee to come to my house. I thought $212 to fix a leaky faucet was wholly unreasonable. This company may be acceptable for large-scale jobs or extreme emergencies, but not for routine plumbing tasks. more
