A little hidden star in Bellevue - this place is posh. It is slightly targetted towards a higher end market, but the seafood is fresh and yummy. ... more

Excellent seafood 11/3/2006

This place is great. A colleague and I stumbled across this place when we were here on business, and had a fantastic dinner. The sushi was excellent, but the entrees were even better. The sesame crusted tuna was wonderful, and they have an excellent wine list. If the restaurant is too crowded to get seated, go to the bar; they have a full service menu, and our waitress was wonderful! more

Best for appetizers and cocktails 3/17/2006

The raw bar is superb (try the sushi!) and the cocktails are incredible (especially the The Myer Lemon Drop). The appetizer tower is an excellent mix of little morsels and the sesame crusted seared Ahi tuna a delight. Tried the dinner menu on a couple of occasions, and it mostly left me unimpressed. My M.O. is to go to Seastar for cocktails & apps, then head elsewhere for dinner. Pros: Cocktails, Appetizers, Raw bar Cons: Unimaginative menu more

Mediocre food- fussy & over-thought dishes 3/6/2006

First time diner- server was distant and in a word, smug. Oysters and cosmopolitan were delicious. Sturgeon entree and banana sundae for desssert suffered from too much of everything, whether butter, smoking of the fish, truffles in the mashed potatoes, orange flavoring in the caramel sauce with the pineapple- good food stands on its own and doesn't need to be fussed. There are far better dining choices a short drive away- in Seattle. Pros: Cocktails, Parking Cons: Service, Noise level, Food more

Great, but slow 1/24/2006

We took customers here for dinner last night, and despite my having made reservations 4 weeks in advance, we were not seated for an hour past our reservations. Its great food, but if you have a party larger than 4 I wouldn't recommend it. We only had 7 in our group and they still had us waiting an hour past our reservation. Unacceptable to me. They did provide us with free appetizers for our waiting, but when you have a 7:15pm reservation, and you don't get seated until 8:15...that's a bit too long in my opinion. Pros: Great food, Good wait service, Great wine Cons: Reservation challenge more

Sassy Out of Touch 12/1/2005

I have been to Seastar numerous times and have had nothing but great service and food. I have met Chef Howie and he was friendly, professional and corteous - sounds like Sassy wanted to blow off some steam and draw some attention to himself. The food, staff, and service are all top notch and Seastar is easily one of the best places on the Eastside to dine. Try it for youself! more

The WORST SERVICE and RUDEST CHEF EVER! 10/23/2005

I wanted to let everyone know that my experience at this restaurant was nothing short of terrible. The food was somewhat good but very overpriced. The staff thinks they are elite when they are clearly following the direction of the jerk Chef that runs this joint. After watching him demean about 4 different staff members I saw why this place just simply misses the mark - they have a terrible ""captain"" running this ship. It doesn't matter how good your food is, if the service of both your team and your Chef is terrible you are going to have a short run. Being rude, patronizing and self-righteous are both sinful and a recipe for disaster. Someone should step in and make some changes before it's too late - the Chef's gotta go! Cons: Horrible Service, A VERY RUDE CHEF, Sub par food more

Overall Great Food 7/18/2005

I enjoyed the experience a lot. The overall feel of the restaurant is great, relaxed yet stylish. The food was delicious, especially the crab cakes and the scallops in the three tiered appetizer tower. The BLT sushi roll is great for those less adventurous about sushi. For dessert, I highly recommend the molten chocolate cake, rich yet the raspberry ice cream and raspberries is refresihing and light. more

Seastar Shines 2/23/2005

I've eaten at the bar and dining room. Both were good experiences. I'll go back. more

Hit and miss 10/1/2004

I've had mixed experiences. The decor is nice and the staff is fairly attentive. However, while the tiger prawn risotto and plank mushrooms have been excellent, and the kalbi pork meltingly tender, the crab bisque was heavy and overly salted, the crab cakes were served cold and oily. Good when it's good, but your mileage may vary. Pros: Fresh seafood, Wine list more

Great place..you pay for it. 9/24/2004

Awesome food, wine service...you can't go wrong here. In a group of 20 people every person loved what they had. From apps. to desert and wine it was unreal. You do pay for it...but you get what you pay for right? This is a top notch place when you want to go all out....I know this fact..you will not regret it. more

Astoundingly good! 9/14/2004

The stacked appetizer sampler contained many tasty morsels--my favorite was the crab cakes. The sushi rolls were about average--this is not really a sushi place, but I guess every seafood place in seattle needs some sushi on the menu. The Salmon dish I got was excellent... until I took a bite of the crab that my dining companion ordered. The crab was insanely good! If you want seafood, this is the place to go. The wine list is extensive and well chosen with a very knowledgable wine guy. Great for dates, out of town visits, etc. Pros: easy parking, great seafood, great wine list more

Excellent 12/11/2003

This is by far one the best restaurants in The Greater Puget Sound. Their wine selection is to die for, and the food is just the greatest. Everything there was top notch. The service is incredible. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Cons: Great Parking, Wonderful Environment more

Seastar 11/14/2003

Similar to Oceannaire in Seattle. Wonderful place to eat. Try the crabcakes - I haven't found better in the greater Seattle area Pros: Location, Ambience, Fresh ingredients Cons: Parking more

Long overdue 8/8/2003

I'm amazed at the high expectations of most people. Hey, this is Bellevue, not Belltown! Seastar is, without a doubt, one of the best restaurants on the Eastside. If you are entertaining for business, the only other option in downtown Bellevue has been Daniels broiler. Yawn. Bellevue has been long overdue for a downtown restaurant that is not completely suburban and offers fresh and innovative dishes beyond the boring surf and turf fare of the local dining institutions. The seafood selection is outstanding.... yes, my Washington Albacore Tuna was a bit overdone and my guest's broccoli required a chainsaw to eat, but the presentation and impeccable service certainly made up for it. The Sommelier was probably younger than some of the wines on the menu, but he was quite savvy and made some great recommendations. Overall, if you are looking for an Eastside night on the town, start at Seastar. Pros: ambiance, service, variety Cons: inconsistency, parking more

Vegitales 7/29/2003

Ok, I like Seastar. I go there often. I crave the Maytag salad or the plank mushrooms and the poke, they're always great. Congrats on the Food & Wine Award. But after the other night, I just had to post. Could they ever cook a vegetable to help them? I ordered the plank salmon 5 days ago, I got 'smoked' broccoli that was bigger than the salmon itself! Fred Flintstone sized! It was gross to look at and unenjoyable to eat! Not only that but less than a week before that, I received way undercooked (also see 'raw') green beans with my dinner, what is with this? Aside from this its almost always good. Its worth making the trip and spending the cash. Hands down order the steak or swordfish, always great. Caveat vegetable eater! Pros: great dessert, amazing wine list, great service Cons: Bad sides, parking, no view more

Nice...but pay the price 5/30/2003

It was a girls-night-out-try-a-new-restaurant kind of a night and Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar seemed like a perfect place to be. The atmosphere is wonderful, however the food was just alright. I am not really one that likes more of that Pan-Asian type of food, so this was not my style. Would I eat at this restaurant again? Perhaps, I really can't say enough about the great atmosphere, however, I am not sure what I would order next. They have a menu online, so I would definitely check that out along with the prices before making any decisions about this restaurant. Also, there is a lot of free street parking around the block, so don't settle for the $7.00 valet parking! more

Only so-so 4/7/2003

Last Saturday 5 of us had dinner here. Maytag Bleu Cheese salads were great. The gals enjoyed their seafood tower. Myself and the other gentleman ordered steaks. Neither one of us enjoyed them. I had the Prime Top Sirloin and although the flavor was good it was tough as shoe leather. He had the New York and suggested it was also chewy. Still, I can cook a better Prime New York purchased at Larry's Market and cooked myself. Not what I expected for the price. Atmosphere was nice and service was good, but get a table well away from the door if it is cold outside. We felt a draft anytime the front door opened and that was too often. They need inner and outer doors or something to block the breeze. I'm sure it cooled our food down having the wind blowing on our table. Pros: pleasant atmosphere, good service Cons: expensive, tough steaks, no view more

Better than Average. 3/6/2003

Dined there for my wife's birthday and was relatively unimpressed. Nothing was 'bad' and some things were very good but too many dishes missed the mark for a restaurant asking these prices and with Chef Howie's reputation and credentials. The crab bisque was good but bordering close to bland. The tropical salad was very good. The king crab was good but expensive and the cedar plank imparted no extra flavor to the in-the-shell crab legs. The swordfish was very good but the salmon was so so. In short too many hit and miss dishes IMO for a restaurant trying to build this reputation and having these prices. I can't say I'd go again with Cafe Juanita only being 10 minutes away. more

Good wine and food 3/6/2003

The best wine list I've seen, Erik was a wonderful help. One member of my party only ordered a blue cheese salad, yet it was amazing! You must try the ahi and the kobe steak. Simply a beautiful night! more
