I will start by saying the view is beautiful. We stayed in the Olympian plaza and were very disappointed. The hallway we walked down had a horrible smell to get to our room. The room itself was dirty the carpet had stains on it. The bathroom had mildew in the bath tub area. This room did not have the clean welcoming smell you get when you go into a hotel room. The bed was so uncomfortable my husband and I had to sleep in the opposite direction on the bed to get comfortable because the mattress was so old it had a lump in the center and each side had a hole you sunk into. The amenities fee was ridiculous. When you go to a hotel you expect to have access to the pools and hot tub. Not have to pay extra for it, the amenity fees only included the amenities that one would expect to get with your stay. Good luck finding the indoor pool and spa area. There are no signs or directions to where everything is located. They don't tell you you have to go through the spa area to get to the indoor pool. My husband and I walked around for 30 minutes trying to locate this area. When finally found it around 7:45 pm and wanted to use the hot tub the lady that was at the desk was rude and constantly reminded us that it closed at 9 pm on the dot because she had to be out of there because she was leaving on an early flight in the morning for a vacation and she was not staying a minute past 9pm. So my husband and I went to our room to change and got back there at 8:15pm, again the lady stressed how she had to be out of there at 9pm sharp so she could go home and pack. Although we did not intend to stay long it was rude. There was nothing posted or a pamphlet to say what what available to us in the spa or pricing or schedules. The bathrobes they had were worn and dirty looking, didn' t want to use them the area of the hot tub was in shambles. The concrete walls looked like they had cracked and very poorly repaired with a bad Spackle job and not repainted. There was nothing special about the room we stayed in. There is NO BEACH. The best thing about this trip was a little restaurant called the "Green Springs" it looks like someones house when you pull up to it in the middle of a neighborhood. The food was topnotch and the servers are fabulous. HIGHLY recommended. Don't plan on staying here if you want a real spa resort experience. Oh and if anyone on the floor you are staying on orders room service and leaves the tray outside the door expect to trip over it for the next 16 hours because they never come to pick them up until they walk the floors at 2 am the next morning to see if anyone leaves a menu card on their door for in room breakfast the next morning. I have read other review on here of people that had clean rooms and a wonderful experience. I want to know where the clean rooms are in this place cause I certainly was not in one of them. Oh and they also have a laundry room on the floor but I wouldn't recommend using it cause it smells like cat piss in there. What a mess and a complete waste of money. more

My husband and I do not get to stay at 3 1/2 stars very often-we work very hard and were excited. We get there & find out that our room prefs were not guaranteed We're smokers paying our own way...not murderers. They put 2 smokers in a non smoking room with no balcony & they told us that the balc rms were all rented-only 3 had ppl in them-I could see. It was a 10 min maze to the street-it stormed horribly. The desk lady was nice but it was a condescending nice-We were told we could go to Clearwater-get wild and crazy but we were to relax there-their facilities closed at 9. The site said on Tampa Bay-I guess b/c they own the 10 mins of sts it takes to get to the bay then yes, tech. they're on the bay. We did see Manatees from their pier. It stated they were close the beaches of clearwater-that to me means walking dist.-but still 10-12 miles? Really. Then we find out the great price we got on priceline (our 1st and last time!) did not incl the resort fees-and they cov'd the same things that I've had more at "lower class" establishments-a gym, a hottub & sauna-their cont brkft costs $11....whoopee! the massages were outrageous!-I have never even had one and I knew that. Apparently according to the reviews that are included here-the 'ex' svcs weren't very gd anyway! We left 3 days early-they never asked why. There was a leak in the bar area outside of the bathroom that made the hard ceramic floors constantly wet-too bad I didn't fall!-it wasn't only a water leak-it was leaking from a 4" or so LED lgt that was in the ceiling (hanging down about a 1/2 ") above the bar area-next to the exht fan. The outlet fan for the AC had water drip'g down the walls! The therm. said outside temp was 124, the rm temp was 84! and the system was set to 68-the low't it would go. I don't have AC in my home-I live in KY & have felt some weather w/out the AC but come on-Really? We were told they would have a tech look at it. The carpet was beautiful. It really fit with the cheesy Grecian decor. It reminded me of an old-fashioned bedspread where the background is one color and the 'swirlies' are another-striking. It must've been the orig carpet made by Mr. de Soto (check their history) b/c it stuck to my feet. I like to go barefoot but not here-it was gross! As for the bed that someone said was the best in the world next to their own-well with the 80's in the room and the lumps in the awful imitation of a feather topper I guess that other person must sleep in a box or something. I keep bringing up KY because she spoke to us in a manner using KY in her sentences that made me feel like I wasn't good enough for her establishment. We had never used Priceline and was shocked when they accepted our price...our low price until the fees added up...that we jumped on it...literately packed and in the car in 1 hr so we could be sure to not miss this opportunity. We didn't check things out first-afterall,they were 3 1/2 stars! Crap by any other name is still crap! As for Pricline, they haven't heard from me yet. The way she spoke to us we figure that we were guilty by association and this was the "Priceline" room-I have stayed at lower rated places with much better results and satisfaction. Run very very fast! more

You'll get better service at a mall spa 4/16/2009

I came in to get their signature caviar manicure with French for my wedding and left very very disappointed. I'm used to very high-end service and I expected to get the same at this spa. There was no attention to the customer or detail. Minimum materials used, service done very quickly and sloppy. I refused the Fresh because it looked like someone dripped white nail polish all over my nails. Came home with white stains on my fingers. My hands feel very dry and I have to cut the cuticles myself. Will never go there again and wouldn't recommend to anyone. And their complaint person didn't even appologize for the bad service - just a lady at the front desk. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: bad service a technicians more

Most Comfortable Beds (next to my own of course!) 3/9/2007

Following my best friends wedding my boyfriend, most of the wedding party and I stayed at the Safety Harbor Resort. The room was spacious and lovely, very romantic. The bed was ohhhhh soooo comfortable with down pillows and comfortable. We had a king size suite with lots of little extras, wet bar, designer toiletries, lovely view of the pool with the Marina in the back ground. Even as a local I will be back to stay again if the occasion calls for it. Pros: down comfortable, view Cons: different buildings made it harder to find our room more

BEST DAY SPA IN TAMPA BAY! You must be kidding?! 10/21/2006

As a frequent spa goer I must say, this spa is supremely below today's spa standards. The best part of this spa is the view outside. The facility is very antiquated and mediocre at best. My massage was performed in a room that was very "sound sensitive" and the feeling of the treatment room was anything but welcoming and relaxing. My male therapist constantly broke contact to relube and moved from one part of my body to another in a very mechanical manner. UGH! My facial was enjoyable as the tech conducted herself like true a professional. I will never return to this spa unless they do a major overhaul. If they want to stay in business they will have to. In St. Petersburg, The Don Cesar is in the construction stage of rebuliding their spa ammenties which are promised to be state of the art luxury. I can't wait! Also, The Vinoy is in their early stages of rebuliding their facility as well. Pros: beautiful water views Cons: antiquated spa facility, mechanical massage therapist more

Great place; Good things and Bad things about it, however 8/15/2006

I stayed in the Premium room, so I got the awesome bed. That was probably my favorite thing about the place. It was soooo comfortable! Other pros include the events. This place has a number of events to keep you busy; including classes, workshops and fitness activities. You can rent a bicycle for free; it's fun to ride down the flat Florida streets (no exhausting hills). There is a restaurant and room service, but it's expensive. I suggest going down Main St. to eat, you can find places that are much more affordable (I highly suggest Captain's Italian Restaurant...yummm). The pool is nice, supposedly it's filled with mineral water, so it doesn't burn your eyes when you go under. There is a cute little bar next to the pool and in my package, I got a welcome cocktail, which I thought was nice. Otherwise, the drinks are kind of expensive. My package also included an herbal wrap, which was also nice because it was FREE, but I wouldn't have paid for it. The spa treatments are REALLY expensive. Anyway, the crappy things about this place: The so-called BEACH that the hotel sits on is hardly a beach. It is a tiny strip of sand AFTER a huge field of grass (where there are hammocks, so that's nice). There is a nice pier, but it is NOT a beach. You will have to drive to a real beach. There is no wireless internet connection in the rooms, which is crappy b/c I had to bring my laptop down to the lobby. They also have a business center where you can use the computer, which is okay, I suppose. There are water dispensers out in the hallway, but it's mineral water and tastes gross! Maybe just my preference. No microwave or refrigerator in the room, so you're forced to go out to eat. Also, the saunas and spas are seperated by men and women, so you can't go in with your sweetie which is LAME! You also have to pay $12/day extra for these ammenities. However, I got a great deal on the room, so I can't really complain. If I had paid full price, I would be mad. :) Pros: bed (in premium room), aveda shampoo and soap they provide (verrryy nice), good discount package Cons: sleepy town, no internet connection in rooms, everything costs extra more

Overall very good - only one problem... 3/9/2005

I visited this spa 9 months ago for the day package. The massage, facial, and pedicure were excellent, however the manicure was TERRIBLE. The nail tech kept on and on about how much she hated her job and did a crappy job on my nails. I paid for a deluxe manicure, but the tech stated since I had acrylics on she wasn't able to do a "complete" job - the whole service lasted 10 minutes. When I complained to a manager, she was very nice and apologetic. She stated what the tech had told me was incorrect and said that the deluxe manicure was in fact much longer and acrylics were not an issue. She stated I would get a free manicure or a refund. Overall I had an excellent time and would definitely go back. The food at the restaurant was very good, too! Pros: A+ Customer Service, Great massage, Great facial Cons: Pricey, Rude nail tech more

Mediocre at best 1/26/2004

I have no idea how this spa gets it's luxury reputation. Every time I've visited I've gotten bad service. During my first manicure, I was treated to 2 broken nails (I have natural nails) and no conversation except the manicurist complaining to another girl about how much she hated her job. The inside is nice but not really luxury; the employees are far from top quality. Overall, to me this seems like a medicore spa for suburbanites trying their best to seem urban. Pros: Not too expensive, On the water, Not crowded Cons: Poor customer service, Unfriendly Atmosphere, Salon svcs horrible more
