Hands Down - Best Mexican Restaurant in STL 6/25/2007

The first time I went to Ruiz, it was to meet my wife and her co-workers for a happy hour. I've been hooked ever since. Whether it be for a few drinks, appetizer or dinner, I'd highly recommend RUIZ. The Beef and Steak Burrito Melts are fantastic, taco salad is always great and I've not had a bad appetizer yet. Beer is always cold, bartenders and servers are always friendly. The salsa is one of a kind. I've not had a bad experience there since my first visit 5 years ago. Prices are competitive with any Mexican restaurant in the area. The recent updates only make the dining experience better. Pros: Chips/Salsa and Burrito melts more

best mexican food to be had....period! 6/25/2007

Long time customer, first time review. I have been enjoying Ruiz since the late 70's. There simply is no comparison, as i consider myself an expert in Mexican food I have tried many others mom and pop and the chains alike and ruiz consistantly comes out on top! Love the service I recieve at the bar from Bene......keep up the good work my man! 4 years ago I moved just north of Columbia, Mo. and I have yet to find anything my pallet desires within 20 miles of here. We have some recognizable names such as El maguey and other mom and pop places but nothing even on the same planet as ruiz. So needless to say every time I go back home to St. Charles I Pay ruiz a visit and cannot wait for my next plate of burritos or tostadas and of course, a chili con queso to get things started!!!!! WOW THIS IS MAKING ME VERY HUNGRY!!! Thanks for all the great memories and all future dining experiences to all who work at Ruiz. From: Tom in Centralia, Mo. Pros: Best Burritos, Tostadas, appetizers, salsa and chips anywhere in the state. Cons: None that i can find. more

Been going there for years !! 6/25/2007

I grew up in Florissant, I grew up on Ruiz. I love their tamales, no one does it better. Now I bring my kids there. It's their favorite Mexican. I would recommend RUIZ !! Pros: Best Tamales Cons: Need one across the river in Illinois !! more

wish we could go more often! 6/25/2007

Since moving to O'Fallon from Florissant 3 years ago we have not found a mexican restaurant that can even compare to Ruiz close by. We have tried the old substitutes like Chevy's, Casa Gallardo, El Maguey and even La Chata but always leave disappointed. So now whenever me and my husband crave mexican we don't even have to think about where we are going to go. It's Ruiz everytime! Pros: the food more

the nastiest food i have ever consumed! 6/21/2007

when we first walked in to the resteraunt,a mariachi was flirting with us... it was rather rude.then we waited for anh hour to be seated when we could count 6 empty tables!!! the food we ordered was rubbery and cold...we do not reccomend the chili relleno,or a chicken chimi it tasted absolutely horrible...they say that they dont use microwaves but they do!!! wich is fine i just wanted my food hot!! we much rather reccomend Las Palmas!!! when we tried to complain to the manager/owner doug marshall he refused to help us out Pros: chips and salsa Cons: wait staff and owner more

Avoid Sunday Lunch at all costs 3/11/2007

5 hungry people arrive at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon. Doors are open, parking lot empty, quick service and great food seemingly in sight. Once inside, the poorly lit, and rather chilly atmosphere is unwelcoming. A bar tender who had not so much as a ""hello"" to offer while smoking his cigarette and chatting with girls at the bar stares blankly as if to say ""Why are you here?"". Without a hostess in sight, nor a sign stating Pros: Available Parking Cons: Service, Food, Cleanliness, Quality, among other things more

Good food, service leaves much to be desired 12/16/2006

I have been to Ruiz about 5 times now over the past 3 years. The food is good, but the service varies greatly depending on who serves you. We once walked into the restaurant on a Monday at around 1:30 PM. We waited for over 10 minutes and no one ever came to the host's stand. We turned around and walked out. Other times, I have gotten great service from warm, friendly waitresses. For a more predictable experience, we usually go to Las Fuentes. Pros: Good food Cons: Service is unpredictable more

Simply the BEST Mexican food ANYWHERE! 8/1/2006

I have been going to RUIZ since 1989 when my wife first took me there. She grew up about a mile away from the Florissant location and 17 years ago she promised that it would be the best Mexican food I would ever have. She had been going there since the early 70's. We just got back from a week-long vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico and I still stand behind RUIZ as being the BEST Mexican food I have ever had. We love their Chimichanga's and their guacamole-RUIZ! Best Salsa! Best Environment! Best service! Our favorite servers are Rocio and Juan. We also love it when they have the traditional Mexican musicians strolling the restaurant. Thank you RUIZ! Jeff, Laura, and family Pros: Best all-around Mexican food on the planet Cons: They recently closed down their St. Peters Location :-( more

Ruiz to me is..... 7/7/2006

In my mind Ruiz is synonymous with YUM!!!! I try to go there at least once a week. I have even been known to visit there three times in one week. Enough said. more

Consistent quality 7/6/2006

I first went to Ruiz' for a Spanish Club field trip in 1977. I was hooked instantly. You will not find better tasting beef or Mexican rice anywhere. My children have grown up eating at Ruiz'. The food tastes as great as it did 29 years ago. Now that's a commitment to quality. Pros: Consistently great food! Cons: Need a location in South County! more

Family Tradition 7/6/2006

Me and my wife went on our first date at Ruiz back in 1990, and we still go there on our anniversary. My daughter now insists on going there for her birthday. We love the staff and the food is always great. Ruiz has a comfortable environment and they always make you feel right at home. It will continue to be a part of our family tradition. more

Best Mexican Food 7/6/2006

I have been eating at Ruiz since it opened, now 40 years ago. Now my grandchildren eat there. They were the only Mexican restauranta for a long time. Many, many others have opened in St Louis, but none can rival Ruiz. I have tried the rest, Ruiz is still the best. My favorite is the enchiladas and tamales. I'll be there tonight !! Pros: Big parties are always accomodated Cons: There's not a Ruiz in every neighborhood more

None Better than Ruiz 7/5/2006

I have been going to Ruiz for almost 20 years now and have never been disappointed. Thats a great record! The service is great, the food is AWESOME (I always tell my husband I'm addicted) and the margaritas are delicious. Whenever we have family in from out of town we bring them to Ruiz. Now when they call to tell us they're coming in town they always check to make sure that we'll be making our traditional visit to Ruiz! more
