We had a delightful Sunday brunch in July and decided to return for dinner in September. The food was excellent, as was the ambiance. Highly recommend!

What a Delight! 9/7/2009

Having had the opportunity to enjoy several dinner settings at the Riverview Restaurant, we have always appreciated the service and great food. In fact, our daughters' wedding reception was held there and we were very pleased with our experience. The setting as well as the great service put an explanation mark on her most important day. Pros: Great service! Great Food! more

It's a Win - Win 9/7/2009

How to describe the Riverview Restaurant, "It's a gorgeously landscaped setting with grand service providing magnificent food and drink. A special place for making a memorable event - anytime!." Recently we had the pleasure of attending two of the Winemaker's Dinners at the Riverview - a monthly affair which offers a special five-course dinner and each course is paired with local wine from the featured winery - it's a fabulous combination (and an excellent value too). Plan to visit the Riverview - go for the splendid food and drink selection (arrive early for a wine flight in the lounge or on the patio overlooking the river) and stay for the lovely surroundings. It's a win - win !! Pros: Gorgeous landscape, fabulous pairing of food & drink Cons: Too far from Beaverton more

Unique dining experience to enjoy and explore again & again 9/7/2009

It really is a unique dining experience like no other! We have enjoyed it many times now and in many different ways. But every time it feels Special. The food is always so delicious with many new and surprising tastes. It's definitely high-end but at surprisingly reasonable prices. The service is friendly - no stiffness. The restaurant itself is beautiful - spacious, modern, lots of wood and lots of glass bringing the outside in. Intriguing fine art thru out and live music really sets the mood. But there's still more because this "gem" is in an equally beautiful setting: Just off the Historic Columbia Highway and the West end of the Columbia Gorge, the Riverview sits along the river amongst towering trees. (The bar was made from one of the trees that couldn't be saved.) It has a huge deck and patio for outdoor dining with nice lighting for after dark and heaters so can keep enjoying even if the temperature drops. It really makes you feel like you are "far away from it all" but actually it is very close. There's also beautiful gardens - we attended a wedding there just recently. Gorgeous! And the food afterwards was so much better than the usual wedding fare! We have now hosted many different events there ourselves. And we will continue to do so. For family events and for business - It's ideal for dinners with clients and for company events. Our out-of-town guests now contact us before their next visit to let us know they'd like to go to the Riverview again! Pros: Consistantly great food, service in unique beautiful setting Cons: none more

Great place for a romantic evening. 3/29/2009

My boyfriend and I decided to go here after reading all of the great reviews. Well it was well worth the drive from SW Portland. Our first impression when we walked in was WOW. The candlelight made it feel cozy and romantic. The menu was short and sweet not too many choices. I went with the seafood tower which was AMAZING. My boyfriend had the kangaroo fillet. It tasted just like steak. The service was very good as well. Never had to ask for a refill and we weren't there all night. This restaurant is a great date night place. I might add that it is very very reasonably priced. We can't wait to go back! Pros: Amazing food all around. Cons: none. more

Riverview terrific for dinner 2/18/2009

One of the things I love about visiting Portland is sampling new restaurants. The Riverview definitely goes in the ?visit again? category. During a recent visit, the restaurant?s lovely main room was full, but we were seated promptly. The tables were nicely spaced, so we never felt we could join the neighbor?s conversation. My halibut and crab entree was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented, as was my appetizer, the Belgian endive boat. My friends raved about their dishes as well. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The piano player offered a selection on tunes, covering a wide variety of styles, as he responded to requests from patrons but never dominated the room. He visited our table during the break?a very nice man. I look forward to a return visit, hopefully during warm weather when the deck overlooking the river will be open. \r Pro - atmosphere, food, service, music\r Con - none noted more

I love this restaurant!! 2/17/2009

The location of the Riverview is so beautiful and the stylized dining room with its huge windows overlooking a balcony and the river is gorgeous. Soft lighting, classy music- the guy at the piano was simply amazing, and funny, too! And the artwork on the walls is so attractive. Right away we were greeted by a friendly hostess, and the service was among the best I?ve ever had. They were so nice and helpful as they guided us through the truly fabulous meal. The quality and creativity of the food was amazing. We kept commenting on how pretty it was! Everything was so good. I had the New York Steak and some of the best peach pie ever made! This place is truly a gem. Definitely on my list of better restaurants and worth visiting if you?re in the Portland area. \r Pros: The ambience, the service, the food!!! Cons: None. We had a great time. more

Best Valentine's Dinner in town 2/17/2009

A group of girlfriends and I took advantage of the Valentine's Day feast offered by Riverview Restaurant, and it was the best husband-less meal a woman from out of town could have had. The service was excellent, the wine divine, the atmosphere cozy and intimate, and the music a perfect blend of sentimentality and subtlety. The food was beautifully prepared, not too spicy, and artfully presented. Riverview's chef is outstanding! My dessert, the Champagne Cheese Cake, had a crust that would make Martha Stewart weep. I enjoyed each and every one of my five courses, and I would definitely recommend this to Portland natives and visitors alike. Well done! Pros: Ambience, service, menu selection Cons: not a one! more

fantastic restaurant 2/17/2009

I'm a real foodie, and I'm always on the lookout for a great new restaurant. Riverview easily holds up in service, ambience, and food to every other restaurant of its caliber. One of the real strengths of this restaurant is that the chef creates very simple, recognizable dishes but uses excellent ingredients and superb preparation to deliver them to perfection. I started off with oysters two ways, and got two perfect luscious oysters, served with complimentary sauces. The vinaigrette really accentuated the sweetness of the oyster; the cocktail sauce the sea-salt. The salad was perfectly dressed, and--the really impressive part--the halibut was cooked to tender perfection, with a saffron rice underlying it that gave the dish a hint of exotic vanilla flavor. Finally, the desserts were fantastic. I had a lemon napoleon--the chef was not afraid to let the accompanying berries provide the needed contrast to the citrusy curd. It was just sweet enough to be dessert, but not so sweet as to be cloying.\r \r I'm always on the lookout for good food done well--and Riverview delivered that in spades.\r \r My only regret on this trip was that it was not warm enough to sit outside. I'll definitely be going back this summer so I can experience that, too. Pros: ambience, great wine selections, and wonderful food Cons: i wish i lived closer! more

Valentine's Day delight 2/17/2009

This is my first review. I ate at Riverview Restaurant on Valentine's Day. Generally, when eating out at a ""nice"" restaurant, I'm disappointed. Either the food isn't good or it's over-priced. Or maybe the service isn't topnotch, or the music is too loud. But I was far from disappointed at Riverview. We had a five-course meal. Every course was fabulous, but I particulary remember the Belgium endive boat appetizer, the flaky and perfectly-cooked halibut and crab entree, and the peach pie... That dessert was heaven on earth. What I really appreciated, too, was the portion sizes. I was full by the end of the meal, but not stuffed. In the words of Baby Bear, it was just right.\r \r As we ate, the piano player in the middle of the room played requests from the patrons. The music was just loud enough to enjoy, without distracting from our table conversation. The talented pianist walked around the restaurant during his breaks, visiting with patrons--he was a delight to talk to.\r \r This was a very nice dining experience. Next time I'm in town, I'll visit this restaurant again. Pros: The food, the service, the music Cons: Can't think of any more

A Gem off the beaten path 12/21/2008

The Riverview Restaurant is one of Portland's best kept secrets. My wife and I are so glad that we stumbled upon it on the computer and tried it out. It is set away from city lights in a large treed forest with a river running past the deck. Inside, a soaring ceiling, exposed beam ceiling and two fireplaces make for a very inviting evening. While a jazz pianist played Christmas standards and a few snow flakes fell past the windows, it was easy to forget that we were 8 minutes past the Troutdale truck stop. (Use exit 18 - Oxbow Park/Jordan).\r The Grilled Salmon over rice was outstanding and the Ravioli was delicious. I can't speak for the other entrees, but a lot of care went into the dinners we had.\r Even with our young toddler joining us, our waiter was very friendly and helpful. I can not relate to other reviewers describing poor or snobby service.\r We will definitely return to The Riverview and highly recommend it to family and others. Pros: Location, setting, food, service Cons: I have none. Kids are welcome but kids may not appreciate the restaurant more
