Total scam! You pay for a list of rentals that may or may not be available. Most everything on their list in run down and in unsafe areas. You would be much better off going through a real estate agent or checking your local paper! more

I used Rent Max about a year ago to find a cheap place. They gave me a list of cheap rentals in the areas I was looking for. I found a cute little house with a yard for only $300/month. The landlord worked with me on the deposit, and I ened up staying there for the first two weeks without paying anything! I'm looking for a new place again, and I will definately use Rent Max again. My contract has expired with them, so I will have to pay the fee again. I think it's well worth it, though. They saved me a lot of time by providing me with the list of places in my price range so I didn't have to search. They are not a scam at all. more

I want to thank those of you who posted your experiences with RentMax. I just called them this morning in response to an ad for a rental house that sounded too good to be true. The guy who answered the phone told me that that house had already been rented, but if I would come by their offices and pay $59 IN CASH, that they could find me several properties in my price range that meet all my needs. He of course wouldn't offer me any properties over the phone. more

I agree with the other comments about this place being a scam. They are both dishonest and unprofessional. This place should be forced out of business. They won't put anything in writing or provide you with a receipt. Furthermore, their lists are outdated and the properties look a ""hot mess."" Meaning roaches and mice.. I wouldn't recommend this place for animals. In addition, it is my personal opinion that this is a ruse for a drug dealing business. Just another example of how black men make themselves look bad. And yes I am black too! These people have no interest in the needs of the clients and you have to pay an extra $10.00 for internet access. WTF? Losers! more

Rent Max is a total scam! I saw an ad for a rental property in the paper. Called the number and got an "" agent "" for rent max. I asked him about the property and gave him detailed information on what my family and I were looking for. He said that they had exactly what I wanted, where i wanted, and for the price I wanted. I asked him for the info on the home and he explained that I would have to drive to their office, which is about 40 min from my home and pay them 59.$ for their services. So, I loaded my 3 kids in the car, drove there, signed their paper work, handed over my credit card and as soon as that was done I got 3 print offs of homes that were nothing that fit into my criteria. When I asked about the 1 specific home that I raced to their office for they had the audacity to tell me that the home had gotten rented 2 min after I had called them. I found that very hard to believe. Not only that but I also thing that it is pretty important info to explain to people that the houses they have on their "" list "" may no longer be available. Once I realized that I had been scammed, I asked for a refund of my 59$ because I had and have no intentions on using them.... EVER... Then, I was rudely informed that I would have to wait for 32 days and then call them for a refund and I would get a partial refund of my money but if I did not call on the 32nd day I would get none of my money back. This was all told to me by the front office manager who btw reeked of Marijuana and was the rudest and most unprofessional person that I have ever met. I told her that I thought it was really crappy how they charge someone for a service that they obviously are not able to provide correctly and as I was walking out the door she yelled ""F****KING B***H""!! She did this in front of my 3 kids... After that I called the bank, stopped payment, disputed the charge, called her manager which was also a joke, called their cooperate manager - nothing there... So, no cooperation at all from anyone. I have filed against them with the BBB and will continue to let everyone know about their scamming business and very rude mannerisms to hopefully save someone else from the headache that I endured...! Several years back, found an ad in the paper. said Rent Max... kept looking. Found another just what I was looking for and was able to afford. Went to the place, handed over my money and got a list that was 15 pages long. What I wanted had ""already been rented"" yet they had plenty more. I was young, dumb, and willing to believe these people I gave my money to. I would never do it again. First of all, of the 15 pages 4 lines were in my area, and of those four lines, only one in my price range. I went and looked at the place. Had I had a weaker stomach I would have gotten sick. It was not anything I would put rats and roaches in, not to mention humans. It was horrible. On a hunch I went and looked at the other places. Homes that had people living in them. Nice places. I figured wth I may have had a bad bunch. So I went back and went to go get another list. It was the same as the first list. They then told me when I mentioned this that they have up to date listings on the internet. But that would cost me 15 dollars to change my contract. And since I didn't call every day to get the new listings (I don't know about you, but I don't have time listening to stuff that doesn't pertain to me.) I didn't get my refund. That was the worst way to spend 62$. I don't suggest Rent Max. I DO suggest going up your local Housing Authority, and get a list of the landlords/rental agencies in the area. These are people/places that have to pass inspection to have their places approved for Sect. 8. Their homes are more decent than the ones ""provided"" by Rent Max and have to be reasonable in price to be HUD approved. more

I recently made the huge mistake of going to rentmax. I wish I had taken the time to research the company like I normally would have. But I found myself in a situation that was somewhat time sensitive. So I fell into the rentmax scam. I was drawn into the scam by calling about a rental add in the paper. The man on the phone said that not only was the property that I was calling about still available but he had many others in that range, and all I had to do was come in and sign up for this service. I soon found out that all of the listings were false or could be found on my own. All the properties that they post in the papers are fraudulent.. I have called about many of them, and of coarse they are never on my lists. They say you have to call there service number for listings that are listed in the paper, and when you call of coarse they are old or never existed in the first place. I cannot believe I fell into this scam. I am reporting them to every watchdog, news, and government agency in the country. I write this as a warning to others who hopefully will do what I neglected to do, and research these scam artists before giving them your hard earned money. more

I'm really surprised to see so many negative comments about Rent Max. I've used their service since they moved here years ago and I always find what I'm looking for. Paying them $59 a year sure beats not finding anything in the newspaper but high prices or slums. I have kids, and I don't want to live just anywhere. I don't want to be in the ghetto but I can't afford to pay $800 or more a month for most of the houses in the newspaper. Well i went looking for places in the paper, i i seen like what looked like major cheap deals like for exp. 5br/2bath w/swim pool, no crd ck and 650/m...or a 3br/2bt no crd ck move in 400....i was like wow, so like anyone i called..i asked them every question over the phone and the man sounded nice, and he told me that ALL THERE PLACES were beautiful homes and there was no credit checks or background checks on any of the places and it was 59for a year, so i got off the phone and proceeded to go to the office in Little rock....When i went in there the first thing i asked was do yall show us the places, they said no and they dont even know what they look like, so red flag, then all they give you is a stack of addresses you have to go to. well as i about to sign and give them my money a lady walks in talking about she couldnt find a place bc no1 would work with her and alot of places had credit checks and ppl want 1,000 down, or the places are dumpy.....so i asked questions and they man could not assure me that he would find me a place, he kept saying that as were speaking some1 is getting somewhere you might want, and there the only place in arkansas that i would find places to rent from them......oh and also the lady said that she's been looking for a place for 3months and hasnt found one through rent max...... luckly i left and didnt give them a penny, i since they were a scam when i got to the office and now i know they are after the reviews........... I can't believe these little jokers are still in business, what a SCAM! If you give them your money...you obviously have money to throw away or are just very naive. ""Rocky"" gives the most irritating and egotistical sales pitch I've ever heard, I knew it was a scam the second he got on the phone and opened his mouth. Words of wisdom: Do NOT listen or believe anything they say! He tried to tell me that I will never find a rental home without their service, that ""old people"" don't like to put signs up and only use them to put their homes up for rent...talks real fast and tries to be slick to bamboozle you with incoherent nonsense and misinformation. I called regarding a listing and happened to be in the town where the listing was located. When I called Rent Max they put me on hold forever listening to The Yellow Rose of Texas over and over, and it wasn't even a good version, it was like the old ringtones used to be. Hideous. I finally hung up. Couldn't take it anymore. Several days later, I was back in that town and decided to call back, this time the guy did not put me on hold (although I would have preferred it to his rudeness) I told him I was in the area and would like the address of the house that was listed. He informs me that I will have to come in the office and fill out some paperwork, which I knew was an hour drive from where I was and had no time to make it before closing. I was going to say, ""Well, don't worry about it, I don't have time today, I'll check back with you."" But all I got out was, ""Don't worry about it...."" He said, I won't, and hung up on me! Needless to say, I called right back and gave him what for before hanging up on him. WARNING: IF YOU EVER SEE AN AD FOR RENTMAX LISTINGS RUN DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THEM!!! THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE! FIRST OF ALL THE OFFICE IS COMPLETE TRASH!!!!! THE PEOPLE ON THE PHONE TALK AS IF THEY ARE ON COMMISSION! VERY PUSHY, RUDE, AND NOT INTELLIGENT! I am WARNING all that are even considering going through rentmax...the man dustin told me that i could not find these houses anywhere else...after i hav wasted my $59 i get a list of houses that are run down beat up and in the worst neighborhoods you can possibly think of...some of the houses i had already been to....they get their houses on the list the same way we find houses...they drive around 1and look at FOR RENT signs...the put them on a list...then they say they do all the work for you so you dont have to waist you gas...but you do have to waist your gas looking at houses thats not even worth looking at...i called back and spoke to a man named ROCKY!-the rudest person i have ever talked to..i work in customer service and if someone calls in mad...u are suppose to stay calm...he got rude hung up in my face and before he hung up he told me he don't care...if you don't care then why do they act like they care about helping you find a house in the begginning...they do tht just to get ur money....it's all a scam! We are moving to another state and flew in to look at rentals. We were specific about needs including Pet Friendly. Everyplace we called was rented weeks before. The ones that were available were dumps, I would not put my dogs in them. They peeople are extremely rude on the telephone and use fake names. What's that all about. more
