Not surprized - Out of Business 2/28/2010

Wished I knew of this site to publicly whine about this outfit when this happened... about 2 years ago.\r \r They seemed nice enough.\r And troubleshot to the failed component.\r \r But instead of replacing with the correct voltage regulator (which I ended up easily getting from McIntosh) they jerry-rigged a small under-rated regulator TO-22 type where it should have had the much larger TO-3 can type.... so of course soon failed.\r I have pictures....\r \r Now what really fries me, was they told me they were waiting for the factory part (why it took so long) and charged for the factory part. \r \r As an electronic tech (not audio), was hoping to farm out some personal chores as I'm busy. Apparently we just gotta do everything ourselves to keep from getting screwed.\r \r ~ sigh \r Cons: hackjob on my Mc more

OUT OF BUSINESS!!! After years good service... they're gone... 7/2/2008

I'm sad to see this company go away. They've fixed at least 2-3 pieces for me every year for the past 10 years. I took a pair of speakers and an amp in for repair last week and the doors were chained! I found AVL Professional in Seattle through Citysearch and they seemed to have good reviews. I took my items in and Zak over there fixed it in 3 days! Looks like I have new repair shop... more

Precision Audio and Video out of business 6/23/2008

I dropped off my stereo for repairs and a month later they went out of business. They sold my stereo to an auction clearing house and I am left without my stereo. They are out of business...so you won't be taken to the bank and ripped off like I was. I hope the owner of Precision Audio and Video reads this.. because you are a low life. Your have no morals or spine. I am glad your business folded. more

Couldn't have been treated better :) 12/14/2007

I brought an amp into PAV for repair, and also found out they sell and install flat panel TV's as well. I took them up on both the repair and the installation, and could not have been happier. It took awhile to get parts for my old unit, but given that it was 20 years old I don't think anybody could have done it better. The installation was flawless, the set work fine, they trained me on how to use it. Any time I have an audio or video need in the future, I will use them for certain.\r \r It's really hard to find companies which care in today's world, but this one does. Pros: Friendly, nice people more

Very slow, overpriced 12/14/2007

I have used Precision in the past when I was not able to shop around and a retailer told me they were good. Looking back I know I grossly overpaid and waited far too long for the repairs to be done. This time I had a $600 (4 years ago) Denon home theater receiver short out. They quoted me a range of $225-275 and a turnaround time of 3-6 weeks! I almost left it there but instead shopped around at 3 other repair shops and ended up getting the repair done for a little over $100 in less than 3 days at a nearby shop. Unless you have audiophile-level gear or money and time are no object, I am not sure why anyone continues to use their repair service for consumer-grade equipment, except that you don't know where else to go... Pros: They have a good name Cons: A rip off more

Wonderful service and wonderful people 12/12/2007

It's very difficult to find people who offer audio and video repair services, but Precision not only offers them but excels at them. They were very courteous when I brought my receiver in. They provided the service on time and under the original quote. They called to discuss the estimate with me, and they called as soon as the repair was done. I could not have been happier with them. If only auto mechanics were this good!! Pros: Kept their promises more

AVOID - Lacks professionalism - Quote horribly inaccurate 11/30/2007

I recently had a standard tube television brought in due to no picture. TV is a few years old, decided to get it repaired instead of it ending in a dump. I was quoted that the repair would take between 1-3 weeks, and the cost would be approx. $300. After all was said and done, it took them over 8 weeks to fix the TV (they had my TV for over 400 business hours), and even with the grossly inaccurate completion date, charged me more than the quoted approx. cost. Looking at the parts cost, I figured they spent approx. 2 - 2-1/2 hours of labor on my TV.\r \r They never called me except to inform me the job was complete. Zero calls regarding delays, verification of problem, manufacturer sent the incorrect part. When I called for an update (2-3 times for the duration of the repair), I felt as if I was asking for a huge favor.. sighs and loss of composure from them over the phone, I imagine this one guy must lose it when he's walking down the street and realizes his shoe is untied. Really appreciated being put on an old speaker phone so I'm hearing myself talk. \r \r Like others have said.. arrogant/condescending over the phone, zero communication, completely off-base quote, no credit offering after being over 5 weeks late on job, zero apologies. If they merely kept me informed, I would be satisfied with this repair as the TV does work. \r \r They've had atleast 5 calls into the better B.B. for bad service in the late 36 months, very high. They have 4 five-star reviews here, all within a week of each other, by accounts with only one review given, highly plausible they were made by an employee. An accurate reading could show approx. 2 stars. With any issues that can be fixed immediately and with ease, I'm sure you'll have great service. If anything is out of the ordinary (a repair shop! gonna happen a bunch!) you're definitely asking for a lot of frustration.\r \r I couldn't offer more advice to avoid like the plague, I'm surprised they're still open. Pros: Did make repair Cons: Couldn't have had worse communication, customers treated horribly more

Great Repairs, Great Prices 11/4/2007

I brought in a 30-year-old receiver with some very serious problems. Not only were they able to diagnose the problem and get it back in perfect working order, but they did it in about a week and came in under budget. They probably can't be beaten in terms of service and friendliness. I'll be back anytime I need audio or video repairs or installation. Pros: Timeliness and Friendliness more

never accepted fault 10/19/2007

These guys were supposed to fix the sticky tray door on my DVD player and they said it would be fixed within 2-4 weeks. Mind you, the DVD player worked; it's just that the tray door got stuck three times and then it would open. Nothng major. After a month without hearing from them, I called them and they told me they were waiting for a part to be delivered (didn't tell me what part it was). After the second month they told me that they are still waiting for the part and that they'll call me when it comes in. By the third month, I have to call them again only to have them tell me that somehow a loose screw blew a fuse in the player which the manufacturer doesn't make anymore and the reason it took so long is because they were searching for a manufacturer that makes this type of fuse. Well, it seemed like they were never going to fix the problem, so I went to their store and asked them to compensate me for my broken DVD player. They told me that it's not their fault the player was broken but the SCREW'S fault. They claimed that they never opened the player and that when they picked up the player this mysterious screw wiped out the fuse, thus incapicitating the player. I pushed them on this excuse and they wouldn't budge; they stuck with the argument that a human hand was not involved in damaging my DVD player. It was simply gravity. I'll never go to this repair shop again. Cons: no updates on how repairs are going, inexecusable excuse made as to why they couldn't fix my DVD player more

Terrible Service - AVOID 10/6/2007

Dropped off Plasma TV for repair on August 26th and paid the non-refundable $136 to look at the problem. After 3 weeks of not hearing back I called them daily with, "" we will get back to you tomorrow"". I never received a proactive call with an update. I was always caling them. Finally on September 25 (1 Month) they said they had it fixed. Picked it up, plugged it in and NOTHING. No picture - same issue as when I dropped it off. Called them up, dropped it off again on the same day and then in Mid October picked it up again without any resolution. They COULD NOT fix the problem I was out $320 (they did credit me $160) but I spent 2 months and still NO TV. Painful experience. AVOID. Pros: location Cons: terrible service, no return calls, never resolved the problem and charged me more

Amazing Installation, still trying to figure out how they did it 9/27/2007

After taking my $4,000 Fujitsu TV to these guys for repair (which they did in less then a week) I had them install it and several other components in my house. They were about 15 minutes late getting to my house but I am not going to hold it against them when they did such a good job. I also had them program my universal remote to control my lighting, blinds, and theater. That thing was like programming the space shuttle! I did have to hire an electrician to do some of the work that I needed done, but as far as what Precision did, I was very happy. My wife and I are new to this whole HD theater stuff but Precision's installers showed me how to use everything and they made it all work together on one super remote. I am so glad that I didn't try all of this myself, which was my original plan. I have been going to these guys for years for repair of my A/V gear and have always had good results. They just did such a good job with my install that I had to say something and my wife suggested that I do a review here on Google. I will use them again and can honestly say that I would recommend them to everyone. Pros: excellent service, good installers, well trained staff, Cons: not cheap but worth it more

Great service and friendly people 9/3/2007

I've used this shop for both repairs as well as in-home services, and they consistently go the extra mile to make things right. Work is done and time and at the price quoted. I won't go anyplace else. Pros: Friendly and helpful more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE 6/22/2007

Do you want overpriced ineffective work? This is the place. My Dual 1229 Changer was taken to this outfit on 1/14/06 with the complaint, as noted in their words, "" will not turn on---skipping [the needle]"" On 2/2506, along with a bill for $152.32, it was returned with the notation ""Disasembled to locate and repair several seized bearings and bushings. Cleaned mech. as needed..."" A little over one year later, on 5/03/07, it was returned to them with their notation ""needle does not index properly, at times needle does not track..."" SAME AS PREVIOUS PROBLEM. The previous work was brought to their attention, the surely counterman noted that. After a short 50 days, it was returned along with a bill for $152.46 with the notation, ""cleaning [did it really need cleaning after 1 year?], lubricate parts, mechanical adjustment [did it really need adjusting and lubing after they did that one year previously?] disassembled to clean and lube as needed [what was needed after one year?] ..."" Oh, and it should be noted that this changer that was completely worked over by them one year earlier was used less that five hours in the intervening year. So for $304.78 they may possibly have stopped the needle from skipping---no parts just their intense labor. And, yes to Jeff, a prior reviewer, they will screw a return customer and even charge 14 cents more for the screwing the second time around. If you like either your wallet, your equipment or your self respect----Don't ever go the Precision Audio and Video Service!!! more

My worst customer service experience this year 6/18/2007

Condescending and arrogant counter people. We spent $150 plus made two 70 mile trips to get a cd player ""fixed"" that started skipping again, within 20 days. Both times I've called them they claim they can't duplicate the problem (that's the first item on the invoice, something they couldn't duplicate), I literally had to tell them (the second time) to read further in the invoice before they would admit that yes they did make some adjustments. Then they tell me that they were trying to save me some money, but now I'll have to pay for a new part so they can fix it again. I would have to say that as far as customer service they're challenged, apparently as far as technical competence too. \r \r Nothing was said at the time I picked it up that they had made less than an ideal repair.\r \r more

Great Job Installing my Plasma 10/9/2006

These guys sold me a flat screeen TV (plasma) and installed it for me too. No hassles, no worries, they did everything from drop the unit off to set it up and take away the garbage. Great!!! more

Tube amp repair 3/22/2006

Not many places do tube amp repairs, but this is one of the few that does. I'm assuming they are equally competent with all other repairs. Pros: fair pricing more

Excellent service 3/21/2006
