Horrible Experience! 3/21/2011

We were seated immediately in the ballroom and everything seemed to be okay until several large groups of rowdy St. Patrick's Day revelers were seated in the ballroom with several other small tables. Our waiter was reassigned to a large table and must have lost our order for two steaks. An hour and a half later we were still waiting on our meal when the other waiters kept coming to ask us why we weren't eating!!! When we finally got our meals the steaks were bleeding even after sending them back . In the meantime, the restaurant continued serving wine to already drunken patrons who were screaming curse words and unsavory tales for my 78 year old mother to enjoy. We were horrified by the whole experience. What happened to Savannah's famous Southern Hospitality??? Does the Olde Pink really just want to cater to drunken tourists? Judging by our experience they must. more

a must while in savannah 8/22/2010

We were told by several people in Savannah that the Pink House was a good place to dine. The food was wonderful-try the sweet potato, collard greens and their signature dish, the apricot glazed flounder. The biscuits are also delicious. Wait staff very knowledgable about menu. The downstairs piano lounge is nice for a casual meal or drinks. Pink House is a definite must while in Savannah. more

This food is so amazing it would make a tadpole slap a whale 7/29/2010

We were welcomed in by several hosts/hostesses at the Pink House who made us feel like honored guests though we felt we were dressed too casually for the place (from sightseeing all day) and almost didn't come in. But they encouraged us to stay. They only had ONE table open when we came and we were the blessed ones to get it. Although they were busy - every table filled - we had excellent service and the food came out in a very timely fashion for them having that many diners at the time. The biscuits - OH MY. So good. The butter is even amazing in and of itself . I am originally from Baltimore and particular about how my seafood is prepared - particularly crab soup or crabcakes. I was hoping the seafood would be up to standard and let me tell you the she crab soup was some of the best I've EVER had in my life! The crabcakes? Amazing. Those who were with me on this evening had the pork chops, fried green tomatoes, mac & cheese, cheese grits, and ALL of it was simply amazing. The atmosphere is just beautiful and the lady who comes and sings at each table is just delightful. A friend had recommended The Old Pink House to us, having eaten there a month earlier and so we decided to try it upon our visit. We're so glad we did. Do yourself a favor and dine there on your next visit to Savannah. Pros: Excellent service, scrumptious food, beautiful atmosphere more

Rare but True a great review 7/6/2010

My first trip to Savannah and my birthday. I wanted to have my first dinner in Savannah at The Lady and Sons but when I got there they said they couldn't serve anymore that day at 5 p.m. already at capacity. Too commercialize for a buffet dinner place. So I chose the Pink House restaurant because I read good reviews online. Turned out to be a much better place after all I did not have a reservation so the hostess tried to seat me downstairs in the basement. I said no I want to go back to the front desk and make a reservation . So then I was seated in the restaurant. Nice after that everything went very well my husband and I had a lovely meal very tasty and everybody in the place was so friendly. The lady who sings there even sang Happy Birthday to me. Pros: Friendly atmosphere, southern hospitality Cons: The first hostess tried to seat us in basement bar. No Way more

Nice food. Lacking on wine menu. 3/29/2010

I have lived in Savannah for 2 years now. I eat out often, and try a variety of restaurants. For some reason, I managed to over look the Pink House; even after hearing about the great food. My boyfriend made the reservation for our anniversary dinner. When he called, he let them know it was a special occasion and that we would like a nice quiet table (something romantic). In arriving, we admired the outside beauty and its historic charm. We checked in at the host stand. The host, herself appeared casual in her attire, not really fitting in with the atmosphere. We were seated immediately upon arrival and taken to a small table in the first room to the right of the host/front door. The lighting was bright and there sat a table of 4-5 women who carried on conversation as if we were all interested in hearing it. Our table set right next to the waiter station. I was a bit irritated at the fact that they ignored our request for a nicer table. I noticed that the restaurant was not filled and there was better seating. Just in front of me, there was another room with a different theme. The lights were dim and there was a fire place. I wanted to ask to move to the other room when out server arrived but my boyfriend didn't want to be ""those"" people. I did, however ask her to dim the lights a bit. We browsed over the menu for a while. They had a nice variety of entrees with a southern twist. After our server went over the specials, we placed out order. I had the trout. Daniel (bf) had the duck. They were served with grits and collard greens. We also ordered some wine. We enjoyed both entrees greatly. However, the wine list was limited. I have seen better wine menus around the area. The portions were enough to fill us up leaving no room for dessert. Despite the terrible seating arrangement we got stuck with, we had an overall good dinner. The service and food made up for it. :) Pros: Great Food, historic charm! Cons: Terrible wine menu/hit or miss with nice seating more

Disgusting 10/23/2009

The server was unattentive, the food slow and not so great. The atmosphere appauling....black vents, moldy carpets, look at the bottom of the curtains!!! Curious, when I got home I looked up the health department rating...a B....seriously? I paid over 100 dollars for this. I watched a roach scamper up the wall, and smelled a mysterious substance while in the basement bar...I swear it smelled like raw sewage and the bartender told me that is what it was! The bartender also showed me the plant growing from the corner of the bar. Really....the whole experience is disgusting. Pros: the liquor I drank neat Cons: everything from food to service more

Wonderful Dinner experience 9/18/2009

had a fabulous dinner on a recent trip to Savannah - recommended by the Concige at the Doubltree. Made a reservation (earliest was 8:15) - so we got there a little early, had a drink in the neat bar and at 8:15 prompt they had a table for us in the main, front dining room. Service was superb as was the food. Was non inexpensive but who cares for this once a year experience. We'll be back. Pros: Service, food and ambience Cons: I don't live in Savannah more

This place is Awesome! 9/3/2009

This was the best resturant ever. Me and my hubby have ate at every steak house you could imagine. This is by the far best. My husband a picky eater but this got his 100% approval.Everything was good from the little biscuits and cornbread to the rib eye and twiced bake potatoe. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Savannah you will not be dissappointed. We are still talking about how good it was to this day and the first time we had every been there was a month ago. Me and my husband live pretty far away and we just want to drive back there so we could eat there. Not to mention after you eat you can tour the house. Its a definte must when visiting Savannah. Pros: Best food in Georgia. Cons: Nothing more

Terrible Service but good food 5/24/2009

When we sat at our table, the waiter showed up 20 minutes later to take our drink order. We waited and waited for bread, but it never came. When we asked the waiter for it, he said they were all out and were making a fresh batch, which was hard to believe as the bread baskets were flowing all over the restaurant. Needless to say, the bread never came. We ordered the she crab soup....but THAT never came. They took it off our bill and gave us dessert on the house. We also ordered a cup of coffee with dessert.....guess what? That never came either. All in all, it was a frustrating dining experience. It is a shame, because the food that actually made it to our table, was very good. Pros: the pork sliders and the praline dessert Cons: The waiter was terrible! more

A must do when in Savannah 3/31/2009

I had read about this place in Southern Living and am glad to have experienced such a great place for a fantastic meal, my husband eat the molasses bourbon pork tenderloin while I had the cristy scored flounder. The staff was very attentative. We will definitely come back when in the Savannah area. \r \r \r \r Pros: Loved the atmosphere more

Great ambiance, service and food! 2/17/2009

We were staying at the Green Palm Inn for ouyr 41st anniversary. Since we'd visited the Old Pink House years ago, we had to go back. This time a local said ask to go to the tavern downstairs. We did just that and hung out at the bar while we waited for a table. The service was perfect and a time to learn a little from the locals dining there. The fireplace, old bank vault door and piano music all added to the comfort, and coziness of the tavern. Then, we were seated and the good times began. The steak my husband had was perfectly grilled and my shrimp and scallops over linguine were so tender and beautifully seasoned. Our server was super attentive and ended by bringing a charming Happy Anniversary written on a plate as we had declined dessert after a scrumptious meal. He also brought a candelabra to set the scene. We will come back again and recommend our new ""tavern"" location at the Old Pink House to our friends and to anyone reading this. more

Overrated & Overseasoned...trying too hard to be good. 2/2/2009

My boyfriend and I went to The Olde Pink House this past Saturday night (1.31.09) for dinner, and we found it to be overrated. I'd read and heard mixed reviews about the place, but they'd been mostly positive, so we decided to try it. We were promptly seated in the big dining room with the mirrors on the 2nd floor. The room was pretty empty when we arrived, but filled with mostly seniors and large parties throughout our meal. The cocktails and aperitifs were overpriced, but the wine list was decent. We both had the highly touted she-crab soup, which was okay, but nothing to write home about. Our fried green tomato appetizer was forgotten by the waitor (who was otherwise a good server). They took it off the bill, but brought one to us with our meals. I ordered the 8oz. filet, which was a nice cut and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, it was completely overseasoned, as were the mashed potatoes (which tasted like something that belonged at Longhorn or Outback, not at fine dining establishment). My boyfriend ordered the strip steak. His was slightly overcooked (he ordered it medium rare and it was more like medium when he got it). After tasting the steak with the bordelaise sauce, he said, ""I didn't know 'bordelaise' was French for A-1."" The peacan pie dessert was nice, and maybe the highlight of the meal. Disappointing to say the least....we had a much more impressive meal at Tubby's on River Street!!!! Pros: Good pie? Cons: Completely overseasoned and overpriced food. Weird atmosphere. more
