Review content:
My boyfriend and I went to The Olde Pink House this past Saturday night (1.31.09) for dinner, and we found it to be overrated. I'd read and heard mixed reviews about the place, but they'd been mostly positive, so we decided to try it. We were promptly seated in the big dining room with the mirrors on the 2nd floor. The room was pretty empty when we arrived, but filled with mostly seniors and large parties throughout our meal. The cocktails and aperitifs were overpriced, but the wine list was decent. We both had the highly touted she-crab soup, which was okay, but nothing to write home about. Our fried green tomato appetizer was forgotten by the waitor (who was otherwise a good server). They took it off the bill, but brought one to us with our meals. I ordered the 8oz. filet, which was a nice cut and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, it was completely overseasoned, as were the mashed potatoes (which tasted like something that belonged at Longhorn or Outback, not at fine dining establishment). My boyfriend ordered the strip steak. His was slightly overcooked (he ordered it medium rare and it was more like medium when he got it). After tasting the steak with the bordelaise sauce, he said, ""I didn't know 'bordelaise' was French for A-1."" The peacan pie dessert was nice, and maybe the highlight of the meal. Disappointing to say the least....we had a much more impressive meal at Tubby's on River Street!!!!
Pros: Good pie?
Cons: Completely overseasoned and overpriced food. Weird atmosphere.
