I have recently bought two mini aussies within the year. Both of them were extremely sick with kennel cough yet they still sold them. Upon my first vet visit for my male, I was told he has a heart murmur and kennel cough. The pet shop did take care of the cost for the ""first"" round of meds but said nothing could be done about his heart murmur. (yet i paid 1200). When i went in to get his papers they had a little girl aussie and i just couldn't leave her looking so sad. Yet even after everything with my first dog they still would only give me 10% off. When i took my female to the vet the first time, they forgot to mention to me that everyone at the vet already knew her because she had been so sick that the vet took her home for a little!! She was on meds 3 times and took her 4 months to get over the cold!!! It broke my heart hearing her be sick all the time. Once again i had to go back in the pet shop to get her papers and they have another little boy. When i took him out i could already hear the kennel cough and was told its fine its probably just the paper they play in!!! I asked instead of a 10% for a 25% discount after everything me and my poor dogs have gone through. The manger didn't even have the balls to call me back myself. I feel horrible for leave the puppy but i refuse to buy from this place and with tell everything how horrible this place is for selling known sick puppies!!! Do not buy from this place!!! more

Best Pet Shop Around!! 2/29/2012

Please don't listen to these negative reviews. These people are clearly out to bash the Pet Shop and pet shops of the like because they think these puppies come from puppy mills. They don't! This shop and the 3 sister shops have hand selected breeders that they've been working with for over 20 years. My family has purchased a Beagle 14 years ago from the Pet Shop in Whitehall, and he's still a very active, and healthy dog. I've recently purchased my chocolate lab from here a few months ago, and she's been as healthy, loving, and well mannered as any dog you could get directly from a breeder yourself. An absolute joy and perfect companion. My family and I visit the store regularly and have never once seen any of the animals in a state of neglect as some reviews have said. It sickens me that these so called ""animal-lovers"" would say anything negative about such a great Pet Shop. The vet is routinely in the shop checking the animals, Donna and her staff are regularly caring, cleaning, and tending to all of the animal's needs. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for their next pet. Adopting is a wonderful thing. I travel often with the Army, and have volunteered in several shelters taking care of dogs. If you get the chance to adopt a dog, that is wonderful! But I can't begin to tell you how difficult of a journey it was for me to try and adopt. I was turned down because my yard wasn't fenced in, or because the foster home didn't feel I'd be a good fit because I could be deployed at any minute. They refused these animals the opportunity at a wonderful life. So now what? These poor dogs have to stay locked up in a caged area for a few more years until someone adopts them? If they ever are adopted. I understand where they were coming from, and why they have to be very strict with their adoption procedures, but to deny a homeless dog the opportunity to live in a loving home hurts me. But now that I have my chocolate lab from the Pet Shop, I am humbled to know that I'm able to give this puppy a long, healthy, happy life from day one! No my yard isn't fenced in, but I live a very actice lifestyle. I take my dog to the park to run daily, and we go hiking and swimming regularly. Yes I'm in the military and travel, but she goes everywhere I go. And if I have to leave for an extended period of time, she stays in my parent's loving home with their Beagle, and she couldn't be happier. All dogs need homes and the Pet Shop is the perfect place to find the next member to your family!! My business, as well as my family's, will be coming back here! more

Be very leering of buying pets at ANY pet store. 12/19/2011

I wasn't in the market for a new pet. On Black Friday I had gone shopping with my mother and my daughter. We stopped in the pet store just to look around. That was until my daughter fell in love with a beautiful little kitten. First off, $110 is way too much for a cat. (I'm sure that they didn't pay one cent for). I could find one on craigslist for free, or adopted one cheaper. They told me the kitten had been on a certain food, too keep him on that overpriced garbage. When I got home, he had severe diarrhea. We kept him on this food for a few days, the diarrhea continued. Since I already had a cat, I switched to the food I use for the other one. The diarrhea stopped immediately thereafter. Now to find out the poor little guy has ear mites. Are these animals even checked by a vet. They claim so, but I don't believe it to be true. Other than the few problems I encountered, the kitten seems healthy. he has a very healthy appetite. He is very happy, energetic, and playful. Gets along great with the other cat and the dog. Other than the unnecessary extra vet bill, I am happy with the kitten. But I wouldn't purchase any pets from their store again. Most, if not all of their dogs DO come from puppy mills. My mother purchased a dog from there the same day I got the kitten. Her dog had worms and a very bad flea problem. She also had a cold/virus which she gave to my dog. She was very lethargic the first few weeks. She is just finally coming around, but still seems skiddish. If people seriously want a pet. Adopt one!! There are too many people throwing their pets out on the streets. The excuses as to why are very heartless. I can't take my dog or cat when I move. My kid suddenly has allergies. Blah blah blah. Would you throw your child out on the street. They are helpless creatures that only want to be loved. I saved a cat and a dog from the streets. And if i ever moved, it would only be to a place that allows me to keep them. more

Heart Broken! Don't purchase dogs from this pet store 7/3/2011

We purchased a dog from this pet store a week ago and it turned out to be the worst mistake that we ever made. We had this 3 lb puppy for 6 days. On the 4th day, the dog became very ill. We took it to our vet the next day and found out that this dog had two parasites attacking the dog's intestine and a burned tongue. We looked at the Health report provided by the Pet shop vet (Pleasant Valley hospital) and there was no record of the puppy having parasites nor a burned tongue. Moreover, there is no entry on the pet shop vet health report that the vet as part of their normal checkup checks the dogs stool sample. That's unheard of and that is where the crime comes in. Had they checked his stool sample, they would have saw the parasites and provided the necessary care so that the dog would have survived. But instead, they pushed him through the process and sold him to us. The dog continued to get worse requiring us to take the dog to the ER. The 3lb puppy couldn't hold anything down. It was vomiting, lethargic, diarrhea, and suffering. The ER informed us that there was a possibility that there could be more complications costing us anywhere from $2000-$3000 with very little hope that this 3lb dog would survive. We had no alternative other than returning the dog to the pet shop because we didn't want the dog to continue to suffer. This dog was a member of our family, we loved it and it was very emotional for us to return this dog. I read the other reviews where people mentioned that they had great experiences. We also have purchased three dogs in the past from this pet shop and thought this pet store was reputable but through this experience have learned that we were lucky with the other pets we purchased. As others write, the pet shops sell dogs from puppy mills and these dogs are not thoroughly checked out nor do they want to do that because if they did they would do a simple stool sample test. So before you get emotionally attached to a dog from this pet shop, go ahead and rescue a dog from a shelter or purchase from a reputable breeder. We are just trying to spare you the heartache that we experienced with our loving little Dodger who was such a good loveable little boy. more
