My wife recently had two penguin windows sales reps knock on our door. She told them she was not interested. That same night someone threw a rock through our living room window. It could have been just kids but we havent had any trouble until this. I just wanted to post this in case anyone else has had the same experience and didnt want to draw any conclusions. more

SCAM!!!! 2/23/2010

Worst window company on the face of the planet! Simple math....you will never recover the cost during the life of your home even if you saved 100% on energy bills. Go with a cheaper window and you will still be happier. I have Millgaurds and we are saving 35-40% and I paid 1/5th of the price of Penguin and did not have to sit through a 3 hour sales pitch again. This company should be out of business for their shady practices. more

Lies and more lies 2/22/2010

I agreed to get the window demo in exchange for a $25 gas card. Wasted my time when I realized they were literally DOUBLE the cost of a very comparable window quote I got a week earlier. Sales rep kept saying these windows were the ONLY ones that used Krypton gas, and the only one with pvc frame, and the only one with a reinforced bar - all which were lies because I had already done my homework and knew of two other mfgs who offered the same thing. And finally - they guy claims to have run out of the $25 GC's and he was going to send one to me - um - yea - its been 2 months - and Penguin won't return my emails or calls. There are very similar windows for half the cost - and better service - use them. more

No Integrity 2/20/2010

Can't actually rate the windows; never got that far. When we made the appointment for them to come give an estimate, we expressed concern over complaints of 4-6 hour apointments. We were guaranteed that it would be 2 hours- no longer. Silly us for believing them. After 4+ hours, us refusing to talk to "the boss" after the rep repeatedly called him, and he giving us his personal sob story, we came to the conclusion that the only way they can sell their significanlty over-priced windows is to make a sale that night before you can compare companies. We went elsewhere for fairly priced windows from a company with a positive reputation. A year later, still loving them. more

great windows 2/18/2010

Love the windows and the sales guy. Don't know why people are complaining. more

LOOONG SALES PITCH 2/15/2010

Just had a 3 and a half hour presentation from two really good salesmen, after three phone calls to his supervisor he was still trying to sell. We said no thank you at least 4 times, after 42,000 for windows, we were shocked. But most of all it was really hard getting them to leave. I do not beleive the windows were worth that much, even though they were of high quality. more

Excellent windows, disappointing warranty 2/11/2010

My wife and I used to be in sales, so we understand the "salesman tactics." However, spending over 6 hours in our home was excessive. This included some small talk, negotiation, etc., but we also stated that we were "late" and needed to go and the salesman just had to boil some water. Nice guy, likable enough, but the boiling water "experiment" was not impressive. Anyway, we said 'no' twice, and then after some discounts, we received a no payment no interest for a year. Fine, we'll do two large openings and a slider. Considering the price, we knew we were not only paying for the windows but also the "best" warranty in industry. We then learned that the warranty would be given at installation. Nope, we want a copy now. We read the warranty and was surprise to see that the "best" warranty was from Great Lakes windows, the manufacturer, not from Penguin themselves. It was defect-focused, not service-focused as promised. We asked for an addendum stating in writing what was promised. Never got it. Warranty does not replace slider glass at all, and windows not covered if caused by "accidents, vandalism or other external force." Doesn't talk about free installation either. Instead, new glass and seals will be sent, or you need to pick up. I understand the legal-babble that's required in a warranty, but when you are selling quality windows and "best warranty" and unparalleled service, and you're charging 3-4 times the price of competitors, your quality and warranty should be 3-4 times better, and stated at least twice as clearly if you truly stand behind your core value of service. They are the best windows I know of. I've called headquarters and talked to several people, and all are professional and personable. The salesman was a guy you want to buy from. I have little doubts about the service. But we were very clear that we are willing to pay this much because of the warranty. It was a deal breaker for us, and we unfortunately cancelled due to no clear written promises. With better written PENGUIN warranty, we'll buy. more

2 Days Too Many 1/28/2010

Good: I like the Penguin sign and catchy commercials on TV. Not much, if anything. I would VOTE zero or -1 stars if possible.. Bad: I see the company as having a serious lack of integrity and I would NEVER suggest my worst enemy buy anything from Penguin.. Improvements: HONESTY, FAIR PRICES, INTEGRITY. REDUCTION OF GREED .....l.. Other: I worked at Penguin recently. In 2 days of training, it was OBVIOUS that my idea of INTEGRITY and Penguin's were solar systems apart. It would a chance to make a lot of money in hard economic times, I am so broke right now and I am receiving food stamps to survive. Yet, I could NOT and would NOT lie, cheat and bs customers out of money. I am in need, but I refused to adhere to Penguin's dishonest, and corrupt ways of doing business.. more

Waste of Time! Stay Away! 1/13/2010

1 hour energy demo lasted almost 4 hours and wanted $68,000 (yes really 1/3 the purchase price of the house) to replace all the windows in the whole house. After telling him to get out several high pressure sales specials came up, still ended up throwing them out with great difficulty. Stay away from from Pengiun more

unhappy customer 1/10/2010

Good: Love the windows you can tell the difference not only with the heating bill, but also you don't feel the cold coming through them.. Bad: We had our windows installed in July of 09 and let them know of a flaw in the slider and that one of the windows we are unable to close all the way and lock now the stripping in coming off another window and still nobody will respond to us they say someone will call you in with in 72 hours, but no one calls us to make arrangement to get these items fixed not happy at all if this is how you treat your valued customers then we will not get the rest of our window replaced!!! NOT HAPPY!!!. Improvements: If you say you are going to call your customer back then do it! get things fixed don't make the customer wait 6 mo or longer we are not pleased with how we are being treated.. Other: We have no problem informing the BBB about the quality of service and how once you get your money nothing gets fixed and very poor customer service!. more

Very Pleased ! Huge difference in Heating bills 1/5/2010

We ordered two sets of windows ( five windows each ) back when company was Statewide and they were very professional and thorough in their presentation and installation. Have enjoyed a considerable savings in heating expenses and also rebates at tax time the year we installed. The second set of windows were slightly off measurement wise but ths was caught by the installation guys and brought to our attention promptly. Since they pried they themselves on having EXACT measurements before the windows are made , they made every effort to make temp adjustments until the replacements were ready and came back AHEAD of the proposed date to correct the minor adjustment ( ie we couldn't even tell the difference right away until they showed us and very easily could have let it slide if they were less than honest. ) The attention to detail they displayed was above and beyond what most companies would voluntarily give, and we are considering our next set of windows soon. Hoping that the reviews here are not indicative of the switch to PENGUIN as a change in business practices, but now wondering and will be very inquisitive with our next representative. more

PENGUIN WINDOW REALITY 1/1/2010

THESE ARE THE REAL FACTS OF PENGUIN WINDOWS. STARTED IN 1979 AS STATEWIDE WINDOWS / STATEWIDE INC./ STATEWIDE ENERGY / STATEWIDE ENERGY SYSTEMS. THEY HAVE OFFICES IN LAKEWOOD, MUKILTEO AND VANCOUVER WASHINGTON. THEY NOW OPERATE AS PENGUIN WINDOWS AND HAVE AN OFFICE IN DANVERS MASS. THEY CURRENTLY HAVE A B.B.B. RATING OF B. THEY CURRENTLY SHOW 49 COMPLAINT AGAINST "'PENGUIN WINDOWS" OUT OF THAT 32 ACCORDING TO THE COMPANY WAS RESOLVED, HOWEVER, THE CUSTOMER WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT FACT. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS COMPANY SELLS A WINDOW PRODUCED BY GREAT LAKES WINDOW. THEY HAVE A DEAL WITH THEM TO SELL IT AS A PENGUIN WINDOW. PENGUIN WINDOW DOES NOT PRODUCE THERE OWN PRODUCT. THEY CHANGED COMPANY NAMES DO TO THERE EVER GROWING REPUTATION AS HIGH PRESSURE SALES PEOPLE. THEY DO A WATER BOIL DEMONSTRATION THAT WALKS A VERY FINE LINE OF DECEPTIVE BUISNESS TACTICS AND A HEAT LAMP DEMONSTRATION THAT IS TRULY BOGUS. THERE TEMPERATURE GUNS ARE LOW END THAT YOU CAN PURCHASED AT AND HARDWARE STORE AND THEY A REALY JUST FOR EFFECT. THEY PURPOSE LIE ABOUT THE LENGTH OF TIME FOR THERE SALES PITCH JUST TO GAIN ENTRY. THEY WILL ALSO TELL YOU HOW ALMOST EVERY WINDOW SEAL YOU HAVE EITHER HAS OR IS GOING TO FAIL. NOW YOU ASK HOW DO I KNOW ALL OF THIS. AS A LICENSED CONTRACTOR I HAD TO DEAL WITH A CUSTOMER WHO WAS ALMOST BROW BEAT TO BUY THERE WINDOWS. SO I MANAGES TO GET AN INTERVIEW AND WAS HIRED FOR THERE SALES STAFF. I WENT THROUGH AN EXTENSIVE TWO WEEK TRAINDING COURSE BY THERE TOP SALES PEOPLE FROM WASHINGTON STATE. WE WERE EVEN INSTRUCTED TO REMIND SENIORS OF REVERSE MORTGAGES TO PAY FOR THERE WINDOWS. I QUIT AFTER THE TRAINING WAS OVER A DELIVERED A RATHER NASTY MESSAGE TO THEM ON HOW I FELT ABOUT THERE SALES TACTICS AND WARRANTY THAT IS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS WRITTEN ON. I NOW TRY TO EDUCATE ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN ABOUT THIS COMPANY. I HAVE MANAGED TO KEEP MY SMALL CONSTRUCTION BUISNESS GOING THROUGH THESE TOUGH TIMES BY BEING A PERSON OF INTEGRITY. THIS COMPANY MANAGES TO STAY IN BUISNESS BY ARRANGING REVERSE MORTGAGES. more

Penguin Too Expensive! 12/29/2009

The quality of Penguin windows does not justify the expense. It would take more than 20 years in energy savings to recoup the cost. I installed Milgard a few years ago for less than half of what Penguin was going to charge. Absolutely no problem with Milgard windows and I have several very, very large windows. If you have lots of $$ and don't know what to do with it, by all means go with Penguin. more

WHAT A JOKE 12/28/2009

november 25 2009 i spent 10,000 + not 1,000 sorry i posed earlier on this date and needed to clarify my price more

Unethical telemarketing 12/1/2009

Penguin has called our family emergency phone number three times a day for two weeks. This phone number is never given out or used for any reason apart from medical emergencies. After six requests, Penguin refuses to stop calling at times such as 6am. Penguin ignores the donotcall registry and ftc complaints. We must now involve the WA state attorney general to stop the calls. more

WHAT A JOKE 11/25/2009

I bought my windows back when they were Statewide and had my windows replaced 4 times yes i said replaced 4 times and on the fith time they came and just sealed around the glass a very bad job I must say because they said it was the window companies fault i paid 1000 + for my windows the only thing they did was make 1 payment for my inconvienece .did i metion they are custom so in between waits its about 2 to 3 weeks for the replacements come in everytime i see them at a fair i tell them they look stupid in there penguin outfits and tell all around to beware.Dawn Johnson more

Tricky contract 11/13/2009

I signed Contract based on presentation. But contract is in collision with presentation: does not have even close warranties they promised, allow them to hire subcontractor. Sales person present BBB rating as A, actually it is B. I believe that windows are good quality but I am not buying from dishonest people. When called to inform of canceling sales person was rude. more

Slimeballs!!! 11/7/2009

Overpriced. High pressure tactics. Tried the old bait & switch where managemer offered 20% to make it look like a "deal". Still way above competitors' price for comparable window. I'd give no stars if I could. It's the most unethical company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Stay away!!! more

DO NOT BUY 9/29/2009

Read their warranty very carefully!!!! It is not the same in writing as they lead you to believe. The glass and screens will be replaced BY YOU. After they give you new glass or screen you need to figure out how to take the window frame apart and install the new glass. It is also not coveres for missuse or bad installation as they tell you. Beleive your own eyes and read the warranty very carefully and you will see. By the way, I left penguin windows after two weeks because I could not endorse their sales tactics. more

Can anyone comment on the quality 9/29/2009

I have looked at the Penguin Window reviews and looked at reviews of many of the competitors. The Penguin Window reviews are all negative as a result of the sales person, not the product. When I look at other comptetitors reviews, the complaints are about the quality. I would much rather invest in a product that delivers what it promises than one that is going to fail in a years time (or 5, or 10) and not have any warranty to back it up. Can anyone that gave a negative comment say where they ended up getting windows from and how satisfied (or unsatisfied) they are? We are in dire need of new windows. Ours are aluminum framed and are horrible. We have to do something. We are looking at a long term investment, not one to get us ready to sell. We are looking at Penguin, have been through the sales pitch, and are ready to buy. I just can't find any good reason why not to. more
