Excellent service and great food 5/30/2007

I visited the Peak City Grill with my husband last night and was very surprised at the level of service and the quality of food. I am in sales and travel all over and this restaurant is as good if not better than most restaurants we attend for corporate events. I really enjoyed their new menu last night. The manager was quick to come by and check to see how our meal was and to seeif he or the staff could get us anything to make our evening more enjoyable. I watched him check tables throughout the night and this type of caring doesn't happen in most restaurants. Thank you Peak city for a wonderful evening and we definitely will send all our clients your way. Pros: service, food, and mgr. service more

Slow Service, Can't get the Order Right 5/29/2007

I've dined at Peak City Grill & Bar on several occasions and always found the food and service to be excellent. However, my experience there on Sunday, May 27, 2007, was far from satisfactory. We arrived at around 7:30 for dinner and were told we should wait in the bar and have an appetizer and they would have a table for us in about 45 minutes. The place was nearly empty, so we told them we'd walk around outside and return later. We were waved inside after about 20 minutes with, ""your table is now ready."" So much for the ole ""run up a tab in the bar"" routine.\r I ordered the special for the evening, prime rib (rare), and requested no scallions on my baked potato. After waiting quite a while for our entrees, they arrived with my piece of meat looking more like a medium well piece of NY strip and my potato loaded with scallions. I sent the potato back and was told after another extended wait that they were ""out of baked potatoes"", with no explanation of why they didn't just scrape the unwanted topping off my potato...?? I should have sent the NY strip posing as prime rib back, but we had already waited far too long for our entrees to arrive in the first place. This is our last trip to Peak City. Pros: Nice Atmosphere, Interesting Menu Cons: Slow service, Kitchen just can't deliver more

One of my favorite places to dine 5/13/2007

My wife and I visit the Peak City Grille, at least once a week. We have never had a bad experience. The food, service and atmosphere are impeccable. The wine selection is wide and deep covering the major wine areas of the world. The prices are reasonable from $20 up. Their beer selection is even more impressive, including some of the best Belgium beers in the world. Having a great bar would be wasted without great food. Peak City shines there too. The Fried Chicken Livers or Fried Oysters appetizers are to die for. 80% of the menu changes every month, so there is always something new to try. The staff is very friendly and professional. This is our favorite restaurant. more

Worst Meal Ever, waste of money! 5/7/2007

My husband and I took the kids here on Friday night. The food was horrible, waiter was inexperienced, poorly managed and unclean. I ordered a cosmo that was bsically cold, watered cranberry juice. We ordered steaks, salads, appetizers and sides. The waiter seemed annoyed to be serving kids. Kids that ordered adult $30 steaks mind you! The waiter asked if we wanted the appetizers first. Whenthey came together with the salads he said, oh well. The steaks were inedible. big hunks of fat with no meat. These are being sold as prime steaks. I have had plenty of prime steaks, and this definately wasn't. It was like a steak from the sizzler. When we complained the hostess told us thanks for the input. When we spoke with the manager he said come back again and it will be better. I just wasted $275 on a lousy dinner, I wouldn't spend another penny inthis place. While we were eating, the waitresses were standing by our table playing with their hair. How unclean is that! To top it all off, we all got sick from the meal. This was a total waste of money. Last weekend we took one of our sons to Sullivans. We had a fantastic meal. Since the other son missed the dinner, we took him to Peak City since it was closer. For the same money there is no comparison. Go to Sullivans, it is a great dining experience. Peak City should be closed. Don't waste your money here. Cons: bad meat, bad service, unclean. more

Wanted: More Space, Quieter Atmosphere, Caring Mgt 5/5/2007

The owner's cares about getting every dollar per square inch for their restaurant. My party of six was seated in the small room at the top of the stairs. The problem is they squeezed our table in the middle of the 10 tables in the room. This means a room the size of a large dining room seated over 30 people. Conversation quickly became difficult as other parties were seated in this room. \r \r This room is loud and cramped for the patrons seated, when the wait staff shuffles in and out sevaral people in our group were elboed and banged by serving trays being carried overhead. The patrons seated by the service entrance to this room sufferred the most.\r \r We sat down for what we expected to be an upscale dinner, in an upscale atmosphere, as was reflected by the upscale prices in the menu. While the food was good, The a la carte upscale priced menu does not reflect the ambience or professionalism of the management that decided to squeeze so many tables in a small space, or the less than graceful wait staff carrying on their craft in this three ring circus.\r \r Management was unsympathetic to the fact that the room is overoccupied.\r \r With a good kitchen and the great architecture of the location, I am amazed that the faults found with this place could be easily corrected.\r \r \r While the food is good, Apex deserved better. more

Best place in the triangle! 2/10/2007

We have eaten here several times and have always had exceptional service and fabulous food and wine. We have recently relocated from the New York area which is known for their versatile dining experiences and quality food. Peak City Grille would stand up with the best. We have sampled almost every item on the menu and found them all to be wonderful.. It's great to get such a good meal for the money without having to drive downtown. We give them a 10! Pros: Great menu for the price more

Consistently good 1/15/2007

We eat at Peak City a few times a year and have never been disappointed. The food is always tasty, with a good selection of beer and wines, and free live entertainment. The building, being a converted 100-year old General Store is amazing, a lot of thought, money and effort obviously went into it's conversion. We went there on New Year's Eve, and although full, they did a great job of getting the different courses out in a good time frame. Next time you're looking for somewhere to eat in the Apex area try Peak City, you'll become a fan too. Pros: A great night out more

Great place in downtown Apex 12/29/2006

As newcomers to the area, we were looking for a nice place to eat in Apex. The Peak City Bar & Grill fills the bill nicely. Good food, great location, and nice music playing most nights. We love the place for it's variety of food and styles, we'll have fish one night, pasta another, and there's always good beer and wine to wash it all down. We've honestly never been disappointed and always go at least one or twice a month. Two thumbs up ! Pros: Great building, food, music and service Cons: None really more

Great ambiance and food! 12/5/2006

We live in Cary, but make the trip to Peak City a couple of times most months. We've been for dinner, lunch and brunch and have never been disappointed. The evenings when they have music ( mostly jazz and soft rock ) make it a wonderful evening to dine, or sit at the bar with a drink and lighter bar meal ( you must try the Blue Chips, they are out of this world.) The building is a marvel, having been built a hardware store a hundred years ago or so. It can get a little noisy downstairs, so if you prefer a quieter time, ask to go upstairs, especially the back room, which is quieter and ""cosy"". The menu is varied and has something for everyone. Our steaks have always been mouth watering and juicy and the vegetables well cooked, not too mushy. A great selection of wines and beer on tap, which includes local brews and changes frequently. I can thoroughly recommend Peak City for an interesting and rewarding night out in ""old Apex town"" Pros: Ambience, variety, food quality, local brews Cons: a little pricey, noisy downstairs when busy more

Slow untrained service, mixed food quality, nice decor 11/20/2006

Visited for dinner as a ""couple night's out"". Greeter was pleasant. Atmosphere is attractive but accoustics make for a very loud place. \r \r Service started out OK, but quickly slipped into not so good. We asked if we could sample a wine as they were pricey. Server said it depended on whether or not a bottle was already open. This seemed like a strange answer, but not a big deal at this point in meal. \r \r Ordered soup and salad. Soup was good, salad dressing was so-so.\r \r We asked server to split our main dish, but we wanted to share from the same plate (being we were on a date). Server said this wasn't possible. Apparently, everyone MUST get their own plate??\r \r It took a long time for main entree to arrive. We didn't mind as we had good conversation, but it still was a good 30 minutes or so. \r \r Main dish (pasta and shrimp) was disappointing and expensive. It was -completely- bland and nothing like how it was described by server. We tried to like it, but it just wasn't happening. We only took 2 or 3 bites. \r \r We told server we didn't like the dish. She was surprised and at first didn't seem to believe us!? So we repeated ourselves again. She said she'd tell the manager. \r \r 10 minutes go by (by the way, all our plates from soup, salad, bread, etc. are still on the table forming a pile - and now we're going on a hour) and server comes back and says -quote- ""because there was nothing wrong with how the dish was prepared, we can't take it back."" \r \r I lost it at this point and asked to speak with the manager. After a 10 second conversation, he agreed to remove dish from the bill but wasn't interested in a conversation (maybe he was busy...).\r \r Bottom line - WAY OVER PRICED, WAY UNDER SERVICED, and food quality is spotty. We won't return which is a shame because we really wanted to like this place. Pros: nice ambience Cons: SLOW untrained service, mixed food quality, WAY OVER PRICED more

Better lunch than dinner 8/29/2006

Peak City's atmosphere is just what Southwestern Wake County needs. The wine list is very nice and the music is soothing, most of the time. However, the service is sometimes good and sometimes not and the prices on the menu are pretty out there for dinner, if you consider the portion size. I have found that lunch options and prices are much better than dinner. The dinner prices seem like something that you'd fine at Sullivans in Raleigh. If that's the case, maybe their servers should take lessons from Sullivans! I'd give it a 6 for dinner and a 7 for lunch. \r Pros: Atmosphere, Music, Wine List Cons: Food quantity and service received for the price you pay more

If you don't know the difference between NY Strip and Ribeye, this place is for you... 8/6/2006

Because neither do they!!\r \r A member of our party was served a ribeye when she ordered NY strip. It was not cooked correctly, either. She returned it...only to be server yet ANOTHER ribeye. She was then given a FREE steak (mind you, the rest of us had already finished eating) which was yet ANOTHER ribeye.\r \r Another member of our party DID get a NY strip steak. It appeared to be cooked correctly. But it was tough.\r \r I had ordered Ahi Tuna, which was the special of the day. It was TOUGH and smelled and tasted like fish. Fresh tuna NEVER tastes or smells like that. In fact, I have never had worse tuna. I was given some excuse by the waitress...and when I didn't get ""Wasabi Coleslaw"" which was supposed to come with the meal...I asked the server and he told me...""I dunno...thats how it was prepared"". WRONG ANSWER! They ended up bringing me some ginger and wasabi, like what would be served with suchi.\r \r Cold bread\r \r I would never eat here again. The wine menu is very nice, but the menu is too ambitious for these guys. The prices do NOT reflect the quality and skills of the kitchen and staff!! Pros: Good assortment of wines by the glass Cons: Cold Bread, Bad Tuna, High Prices more

Our favorite place in Cary and Apex 6/2/2006

I never write reviews but on seeing some of the negative reviews when looking up the phone # to make a reservation for tonight; I decided to. We have gone to Peak City over half a dozen times in the first half of 2006; the food is some of the best anywhere. The atmoshere and drinks, food, bar reminds us of ""Deluxe"" in Wilminton and some of our favorites in Chareston and NYC. A special favorite is the casear salad, the filet, most any appetisers, deserts; we have never had anything other than an exceptional meal there. We always come early 6 to 6:30 w/o children. This is elegant dining. more

The Best Restaurant in Apex! 5/15/2006

We loved our experience at The Peak City Grill. We went in for lunch and sat outside on their patio. I had a Cuban Pork Quiche that was the best quiche I ever had! My husband went with a Open Faced Rueben that was also fantastic. You can tell a chef is at work at this cute Apex restaurant. A great place to celebrate any occasion!! I highly recommend this restaurant! more

Disappointment and bad service 5/13/2006

Our drink order was incorrect, and our food order took over an hour and a half (after order went in). My kids drinks came out after their food(which was 2 hours later) and cost 1.50. I did not get correct items with my meal. Potatoes tasted like salt. Food was mediocre. We had to stack our plates on the table next to ours. Coffee was cold and drinks never refilled. My daughter spilled her drink..ate on the flood as the waiter never even noticed. To add insult to injury, the waiter added gratuity to the checks and made over a $100 for the worst service I have ever received. I did not even try to complain as it took FOREVER to get anything and I just wanted to get out of there. Cons: service, food, prices more

Negative Experience 1/7/2006

] I was served a bloody steak, which was ordered medium. The manager arrived at our table and questioned what was wrong with the steak. He explained that it was prepared according to temperature. ? Broken thermometer...I don't know. We were unable to cut it with a knife, it was so rare. My five year olds meal consisted of 6 fries and 3 small pieces of shaved steak...for $6.95. We had waited 50 min for our dinner to arrive. The crackers were not bread and the a la carter potatoes were served cool. The ceasar salad was not worth $13.00. This might be a good place for a glass of wine, but save your $100 and dine elsewhere. This place has a Ruth's Chris's price point and offers Bojangles service. The wood floors are beautiful, tables are very large...both making it impossible to hear eachother or wait staff. Pros: Closeness to our home, Patio Cons: Food, Service, Price more

not what i expected for the price 12/2/2005

This restaurant came highly recommended so we went with high expectations. The menu items were definitely upscale (in both menu offerings and price). If you chose an item on the main menu, the side items were alacarte (salads, vegetables). There were crackers and hummus offered before the main meal. The atmosphere was very busy and noisy and we were surprised by the number of people who brought children. We were seated on the first floor of the building and even when we were further back, we could still feel drafts of cold air every time the front door was opened. Overall, we felt the food was overpriced and the atmosphere was not compatable with the higher prices/menu items. A New York strip with one side item of broccoli (no salad... that is extra too) was $28. On the up side, the service was good but we will probably not return. Pros: good service Cons: expensive, noisy, drafty more
