Best

This place has changed for the better in the past six months ! I remember it was sorta slow and ritzy last Spring, but the last time I went there there were a couple of great dinn...

Worst

Keep in mind we went on a Tuesday night....not a weekend. We were originally informed by the hostess it would be 20-30mn before we were seated. After 50mn I asked the hostess ho...

I really WANT to like this place but have had 2 bad experiences 8/1/2008

My husband and I went for dinner the first time. We ordered a bottle of champagne and the server didn't know how to open it. OK, no biggie, but the staff should be trained on these things. We were suprised a the food prices - very pricy and everything ala carte. We ordered veal oscar and our server asked how we would like the veal prepared. We told her we would take the chef's recommendation. She came back and told us that they have 2 chefs and they didn't agree on how it should be prepared!!! When the food came, it was mediocre at best. Very little flavor and the first time I've had veal oscar with no sauce. it was just a piece of veal with some pretty tasteless crabmeat and a piece of asparagus sitting on top. After a year and friends raving about the place we decided to give it another chance. This time for lunch with a group of 8. We called ahead to make sure we would be able to sit outside when we arrived. The hostess assured us that it would not be a problem. When we arrived she had a look of panic on her face and told us that another group had just gotten there and insisted that they give them the table and that they can't take reservations for outside...seems she should've said that on the phone if that were the case. We decided to stay anyway and they took 15 minutes to set up a table for us despite being not very busy. The food when it finally arrived was not bad, although the crab and corn chowder that we all ordered was actually clam chowder without a word mentioned about this. So for us it's 2 strikes and you are out... Pros: atmosphere Cons: service, prices, food more

good atmosphere, but the service is lacking 7/22/2008

I love the atomosphere of this place and it's great to stop in for a drink.\r \r But the customer service is very poor. My husband are regulars, so when I called to arrange a private room for an event, I was suprised that I had to call and call to get someone to call me back! I had to practically beg to bring them a private party!\r \r After hosting events at the Angus Barn and at Second Empire, I was so disappointed in the lack of professionalism and customer service!\r \r Bottom line, it's a good place for a drink after work or for date night, but it's not a place to trust your special evenings to. Pros: cute place in downtown apex setting Cons: unprofessional staff more

The absolute worse service ever 7/19/2008

The four of us went to Peak City Grill recently and as much as I hate to say this--mainly because Apex really needs places like this--I've never had a more horrible experience for the money we had to spend.\r To start off with our server Brooke, (who was totally rude throughout the evening, ) let us know that we needed to hurry up and order because the kitchen was getting ready to close. Maybe we should have been told beforehand that there were time restraints, but that's just me. I would rather not be seated at all than to get sat and then told to hurry it up. Especially at the prices they have for the quality of food that comes out.\r So we ordered in a hurry ,thank you, and also ordered a round of drinks. The round of drinks didn't come anytime soon and we asked Brooke what the delay was .Well, she got really huffy with us and said they were ""busy"" and there were a lot of drink orders but she would find out. And that it may be a minute or two. It turned out to be about 10 minutes and when our delightful server finally got them to us, it was as if we had done something wrong. Absolutely the rudest service I have ever had. \r As was agreed by my date and her two co-workers that were with us.\r I'm not gonna blame the whole business on the behavior of one young person, but they may want to reconsider some of their hires. It was downright bad.\r The food wasn't horrible, but certainly not worth the price they were charging.\r What a joke.\r I can't wait for somebody to open up something in town that has good food, good prices and good service. Something that Peak City isn't offering. Pros: It's in town Cons: everything else more

I never had service like this.................. 7/18/2008

There were 6 girls total. All we wanted was to have a drink and celebrate our friends birthday with dessert. We were rudely treated. Waitress rolled her eyes when we told her what she could expect, drinks and dessert. We had the worst martinis in the world. Glass was not even chilled. When I questioned if there was any alcohol in my cosmo, the waitress snapped and asked me if I even knew what a cosmo was. We ordered 1 dessert and our checks were on the table before the dessert was. This was UNACCEPTABLE!!!! The manager was even a bigger dissappointment. We promptly left. We walked right across the street to CIAO! We explained that we just wanted one drink and a dessert. The waitress was curteous, service was impeccable compaired to Peak. My advice, bypass Peak and head straight to Ciao! Cons: Lousy service, rude management, OVERPRICED more

Great food, great service, great overall vibe 7/7/2008

I felt like I had to write in response to a couple negative reviews I read which I didn't think were indicative of the restaurant at all-\r I met a couple girlfriends here for drinks the other night and we loved the atmosphere so much we stayed all night & had not just drinks but apps, a full dinner, & desserts. We shared a couple appetizers: shrimp baked right into a hush puppy and bruschetta & I had grouper which had amazing risotto served with it. I thought the menu had a lot of vaiety and I tried all the other entrees we ordered and wasn't disappointed in anything. It's true it's not cheap and if that's what you're after than yeah, I guess Ruby Tuesday's is the way to go (ugh). But you're paying for the whole experience and mine was completely worth it! Pros: Great bar & overall atmosphere Cons: apex is kinda far... more

Very average 7/3/2008

Definately not worth the prices that they are charging. We went on a Thursday night and it was kind of slow. The service was fine. The food was nothing great. Nothing seemed very fresh or very unique or even very good. We wanted to avoid a chain restaurant and try something different but by the end we were regretting that decision and would have loved to have gone to Ruby Tuesday or Fridays instead. Pros: NIce Location Cons: Very expensive for the quality more

Avoid this place 4/26/2008

Everytime we have gone, they have a limited bar menu going which has 4 items, none of which I wanted to try. I asked the very unfriendy staff what time they stop the full menu on weekend days and got response of when they feel like it it slow. So who knows what time to go to this place! Funny, we were only offered this limited menu and asked to go inside to get our own drinks while a few tables around us got service and even food that was not on the 4 items offered to us. So, we decided to order a drink each and leave. Went to the bar to pay and it was about $19 for 2 drinks! I was so disappointed in the service, limited menu and the price, we won't be going back ever. This is too bad as it is so close to us. We went about 5 miles away, had 2 meals and 5 total drinks for only $10 more! Pros: Location and outside seating Cons: Price, Service and Limited afternoon Menu more

Great appetizers, lousy entrees 3/22/2008

My wife and I love going to Peak City Grill. It is a great place in Apex. Normally. we sit at the bar and order appetizers. We never really liked the entrees--very plain. However, the appetizers are great. They have a great drink menu at the bar. So, we normally order some fancy drinks and 3-4 appetizers and have a great time. Pros: Great appetizers, great drinks Cons: Entrees are so-so more

First class experience without the snob appeal 1/24/2008

I have taken my wife and business clients to the Peak City Grill and Bar. Each time the experience has been fantastic. Their events are a lot of fun and create an unique time. My wife and I went to their late seating for New Years Eve. It was a full house. They did a 5 course meal with wine servings. The way the staff worked together and served everyone was a true testimony of teamwork in action. I enjoy the food and atmosphere. Pros: service, food, selection Cons: parking can be a challenge, but worth it. more

Low Sanitation Grade - overpriced 1/20/2008

See the link below to see why this restaurant got a low grade.\r wake. digitalhealthdepartment. com/facilities. cfm?facilityID=527213\r \r I think the restaurant WANTS to be a 5 star but falls short.\r Very over priced for pretty good food.\r Very disappointing. Pros: Some tasty dishes including braised ribs Cons: prices inflated, frozen fish not fresh, loud more

Average for the price 1/11/2008

My husband and I went to Peak City on a Friday night for our ""date night"". The atmosphere was lively and energetic with a piano player and crowded bar. We were pleasantly greeted by the host staff and waited approx. 30 minutes for a table (not bad). We requested to be seated upstairs, as the noise level downstairs was not conducive for conversation, and we were happy with the table we were given. Had delicious crab dip appetizer, wedge salad was pretty good. I ordered shrimp and grits and was very pleased with the taste and also the fact that I could get a small plate for $13, which I still could not finish. My husbands dish however, while tasty, did seem quite overpriced - $29 for a small portion of filet, mashed potatoes and green beans. Overall a satisfactory dinner, but nothing special for $100. Pros: unique beers, good menu selections, lively bar Cons: some dishes overpriced, loud downstairs more

Best Sunday and Tuesday Night Specials 1/9/2008

This is a must go restaurant in downtown Apex. It is a little pricey, but for $23 on Sunday nights you get an appetizer to share, a salad, an entree, and dessert, and it's all fabulous. The Tuesday night couple special is similar, but no dessert for 43 per couple, but offer a better appetizer (the smoked salmon spread was quite good and the classic peak city chips are very unique but delicious). Their cedar plank salmon is the best salmon I've ever had (and I've gotten it at many upscale places) with a brown mustard glaze, it just melted in my mouth. You will not be disappointed with this meal. Their jumbo lump crab cake was also excellent. My boyfriend's chicken dish was less good, it tasted too strongly of olives but it was still alright, just not my favorite. And they have $3 a glass or $9 a bottle specials on these nights, a steal, it is decent wine for that price. The environment is very nice, feels a little rustic and aged but still elegant and clean. One of my new favorite restaurants that I've discovered, makes a great elegant date at a much more affordable price! Pros: Great Food and Wine Specials, great value on Tuesday and Sunday nights Cons: The caesar and garden salads were both not very good more

Never Again 1/8/2008

My girlfriend and I went to Peak for dinner. Our waiter smelled like alcohol and was hitting on both of us. Since when do restaurants allow employees to drink on the job or come to work smelling like they have been drinking? Disgusting. I believe his name was Patrik or Phillip...We will not be back to this place! What a turn off and disgrace to the Apex community! Cons: server smelled of alcohol, loud, over priced more

Highly Recommend 12/7/2007

This is one of our favorite places to eat. The atmophere is nice and we have always had great service. Check out the web site before you go because they do change their menu frequently. We like to go when they have the couples dinner that includes the appetizer and dessert. Some entrees may be a little pricey but the ones I have tried have been very good. Pros: Atmosphere, Service Cons: Can be a little loud on some nights. more

Awesome Atmosphere and Menu- Loud- Overpriced 9/13/2007

Went to dinnerwith friends. Length of dinner was 2 hours, this did not include socializing. I am not sure exactly how long we waited for food, but it was fairly long. It was a friday night, so we did expect that. Not a huge deal. 2 of us ordered the beef medallions because we felt the price for a la carte was very high if we ordered steak alone-- BUT THEY WERE AWESOME!!!! We are glad we did !! Our friends were happy with what they ordered (i do not remember- but they enjoyed it- one may have been a fish meal). We are willing to pay high prices for great meat; we just the steak meals came with the side already :O) They 2nd floor is a little quieter. We hope to come back and try new items on the menu-- but we are going to order those beef medallions again soon! keep up the good work. We do wish the prices were slightly lower. We have had great meals for better deals and we would love to keep giving you our service instead. We would love to support the hometown folks. Thank you.\r \r Pros: Beautiful Place, Great Food Cons: Pricey more

Have never been more rudely treated at a restaurant anywhere 9/2/2007

We showed up at 8:45 on a Sunday night for dinner; they close at 9. The hostess promptly informs us at the door that if we want to eat dinner, we'd have to order quickly.\r \r Excuse me? As a guest of your business in the *hospitality industry* I am immediately greeted with a ""hurry the heck up and order"" proclamation? Wow.\r \r No ""good evening folks"", no ""welcome to Peak City Grill"", no ""how are you folks this evening"" -- just a ""we're closing in awhile so hurry up, eat, and get out"".\r \r I'm amazed at how these places stay in business with ""hospitality"" like this.\r \r Needless to say, we promptly walked out and proceeded to have a wonderful dinner at Daniel's in Apex, where the host greeted us with a hello and a smile and the Waitress was equally eager to serve us. Apparently they actually want our money there, and they too close at 9:00.\r \r I will not return to Peak City Grill, but I will return to Daniel's. Cons: Extremely rude service more

Extremely overpriced!! 8/24/2007

Let me first say that I have served in restaurants for over 10 years, including fine dining, and I am an avid cook. That said I am not all that critical about eating out. I become critical when the food is very expensive. Peak City is probably the most overpriced meal I have ever eaten, and I lived in Sarasota, FL for five years. We just ate there tonight and I am so frustrated. We cancelled reservations at a different restaurant to eat there based on the reviews on this website. I wish we hadn't. The food was actually pretty good, not great but good. I had Linguine with Clam Sauce and my husband had a Ribeye. The steak was $24 and a la carte. That's a Ruth's Chris price, but the flavor didn't touch a good steak house. My linguine was very good but not at all what I expected even though I asked the server to describe it. I almost shared it with my daughter and I am so glad I didn't because it was really spicy. I happen to like spicy food but I don't understand why that didn't come up prior to me ordering it. We paid $8 for a bowl of buttered noodles for my daughter. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was over breaded and over fried which made it greasy instead of light like it should be. The wine menu is a little lacking by the glass (for the white's) and that said they only pour about 10 by the glass and the servers had absolutely no knowledge about them. That is simply unacceptable. When I asked our server about the wine he told me he didn't drink wine. I don' t care if you drink wine or not it is very easy to learn basic descriptions. I ended up ordering a glass of something french that tasted like pear water and had to send it back. If the meal cost about 30% less I would have left pretty happy and only slightly annoyed at the server's lack of knowledge (they were attentive). When I spend $120 I expect superior knowledge about the food & wine. The atmosphere and entertainment were nice and I would return only for drinks & apps. Pros: Cool atmosphere, nice staff Cons: overpriced, staff lacked basic knowledge about food and wine more

Fantastic Food / Service in Downtown Apex 7/19/2007

First time diner at the Peak City Grill and Bar in Downtown Apex, NC tonight.. All I can say is WOW!! What a wonderful ""discovery"" of this two-year-old restaurant in a renovated 1905 building that has housed a hardware store and other businesses but is now this locally owned stunningly fantastic restauraunt. The history and decor are described at the Peak City Grill's website. Also you can find more information about their live entertainment , outstanding wine list, outdoor dining area (only area allowing smoking) and lunch and catering offerings. But what I want to talk about are the absolutely delicious dinner selections served at this delightful restaurant!\r \r The appetizers tried tonight by myself and my guest were the Asparagus Cigars, very young asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and grilled plus hollandaise sauce, and the crispy fried oysters. These appetizers are both to die for! Simply outstanding! Perfectly cooked, both of them! The Chicken Rockefeller entre, chicken stuffed with spinach, scallions and bacon on pesto mashed potatoes may sound like a ""dull dish"" but it was - is - the most mouthwatering, tasty , perfectly cooked poultry dish I have eaten in a Triangle area restaurant and have been here a long time. (My guest and I both ordered and very much enjoyed the chicken rockefeller dish!) Had to top off this wonderful meal with the Chocolate Chip Dirby Pie -another 5 star winner! We both want very much to return and try as many other of the Peak's dinner (or Lunch) offerings as possible because we expect each one will be a culinary delight as these were! Oh - and the service was totally first rate. \r \r This visit convinced my guest and myself that Downtown Apex has one of the best restaurants in all of the Triangle! BIg kudos to the owners, the chef, and the wait staff for the Peak City Grill's excellence! Pros: Every appetizer and entre delicious, piano music, historic building, service, value for the outstanding food served more

Last time I went 7/15/2007

Was for the pasta on Monday night and it was not very good, that was 2 years' ...if that says anything!! Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: prices more

What a great evening! 6/16/2007

This was our first visit to Peak City Grill & Bar and we couldn't have been happier! We were looking for a restaurant with an eclectic menu and wine list, good atmosphere and good service. Well, we found it! We had reservations for 7:30pm but arrived a bit early to check out the bar. The hostess told us to take our time and to let her know when we were ready. The Stoli martinis were made perfectly. Once seated, our server, Lisa, was very attentive, and walked us through the specials, as well as the extensive menu. We asked for suggestions, and she explained the aging and preparation (sauces, rubs, etc.) of the steaks. I got a filet with a peppercorn melange rub, along with a side of sauteed spinach. My husband got the boneless ribeye with a porcini mushroom rub and a side of sweet potato fries. Our wine, a old vine zin, was incredible. Thanks for a great list of choices! At no time did we feel rushed. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. \r \r Ladies and gentlemen, if you would like a relaxing evening with great food and service, we strongly suggest giving Peak City Grill & Bar a try! Pros: parking, ambience, service, lively crowd more
