Not worth it! 2/15/2011

Peak CIty Grill seems overpriced for the quality of the food. Our cream of broccoli soup and lobster roll starters were good as was the ice bleu wedge. After that, not so much. The 10 oz. porterhouse pork chop was more like 6 - 8 oz. It was also very dry and a little tough. The sides are sold a la carte for $4. They are not served a la carte and for the prices of the entrees, the sides should be included. The asparagus came out and there were 5 pieces on the plate. The sirloin steak was well prepared. We dined upstairs and it was so warm and uncomfortable, we could not enjoy our meal. The bread served before the meal was tasty. For $84, I'll go elsewhere next time. Sorry! more

Not worth the $$$ 8/10/2010

Keep in mind we went on a Tuesday night....not a weekend. We were originally informed by the hostess it would be 20-30mn before we were seated. After 50mn I asked the hostess how much longer to which she responded ""you're the next table"". No problem. After two more tables are seated I approach the hostess station and the manager tells me those were reservations waiting to be seated (still doesn't explain the 1+hr we've been waiting). The one brightside is the bartender saw our frustration and comped some drinks. Ordered steaks which took 30+ mn to arrive. What was suppose to be bone-in steaks have no bones. Waiter's response to this is ""huh, guess you got the wrong steaks"". Nothing is adjusted on our bill. Bottom-line is I could think of better places to spend $100 and 3hrs of my time. more

Will not be going back 4/27/2010

This restaurant should be good. It is beautifully designed and decorated and even with great outdoor space. Unfortunately, it is over priced with terrible service and so-so food. Latest experience, will be last. Asked for items several times without ever receiving. Advertised specials were not available. New menu is weird and not tasty. I'm not surprised, as this has been the 'norm' for this restaurant for awhile, just disappointed. I want to like it, but I've completely lost faith. I'll be surprised if it is open May 2011. Try any other restaurant on Salem Street for a better experience. Pros: decor Cons: everything else more

Incredibly Poor Evening 2/28/2010

I made reservations for the first time with this restaurant. My time was 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. We arrived at 7:50 and were told that our table would be ready momentarily. Finally at 8:30 we were seated and that was only after standing in front of the hostess demanding that things hurry up. When we were seated, we were beside a table of 20 who had young kids that were moving from seat to seat. The prices on the menu are not cheap and had this place been a burger joint, I would not have minded the atmosphere at all. However, for these prices, I think more consideration should have been given to our seating. I did not stay to order, leaving after we had eaten our appetizer. If you want to go just hang out a drink a beer, this place is fine. If you are looking for a nice intimate dinner, stay away by all means! more

Overpriced, poor quality 12/6/2009

Small portions and poor quality food. Lousy service. My meal was prepared incorrectly. My steak was overcooked and too tough to eat. i just paid the bill and left. Went down the street for some great pizza. Save your money and go somewhere that really cares about food preparation and what the customer wants. i see this place out of business in about 6months. Cons: overpriced more

One of my favorites 8/6/2009

This place has changed for the better in the past six months ! I remember it was sorta slow and ritzy last Spring, but the last time I went there there were a couple of great dinner specials, even a free wine tasting that night, and a very *friendly* staff. OK, so they took a little long to get my second drink...Anyway I heard from the bartender that they now have a new head chef and he is GOOD I have tried several of the new dishes ,, wow!. so I love going there now especially for stuff like a getting together with a couple of friends looking for a place we can actually hear ourselves talk and know we can get what we pay for. Pros: Really like it ther now! Cons: Service can be a little slow more

Questionable substitution 4/17/2009

On Friday, April 10, four of us went to Peak City for dinner. The food and service was good throughout the evening until dessert. My husband and I ordered a tawney port. What was brought to us was dark purple and very grapey in taste, NOT a tawney. I questioned the waiter, who took my drink back to the bar. When he returned, he said, the bartender says we have no tawney port so gave you a port and did not think you would notice! I could not believe that he admitted this, but at least the waiter was honest. This made us wonder about the bartender and owner. \r Pros: Meal as a whole was good Cons: Tried to pull a fast one more

Pretty pathetic buffet 4/13/2009

My family and I just went to the Easter Sunday brunch buffet. Half of the buffet was emptied out of food, and never got restocked. Prime rib was sliced as thin as sandwich meat. We paid over $20 and felt like it was worth $8.95. Lots of low priced items, grits, potatoes, muffins...well what was not already emptied! Could have done better at any other restaurant for a fraction of the price! There were no busboys, so hostesses were cleaning tables, at a very slow pace...we waited almost 30 minutes for a table when we had a reservation. This place really falls apart when they get busy! Cons: pricey, mediocre food, zero customer service more

Easter Brunch 4/12/2009

Similar to Golden Corral, except for the lack of efficiency and good food. The workers were trying but they were way over their capacity to effectively serve customers. Long lines, empty buffet trays, below average food, high prices. They probably made a killing on Sunday, but lost many potential long term customers. Very disappointed and I won't be back. Pros: Nice decor Cons: Everything else more

Great Service Great Food 4/1/2009

I came in Monday for the first time. I ate dinner at the bar since the dinner room was busy. The bartender I believe his name was Patrick was very friendly and knowledgeable of wine and the menu. The food was excellent I did not except to find a place like this in Apex. It is certainly a hidden gem. Pros: Food was great and Bartender was very friendly Cons: Parking more

1 star experience at 5 star price! 3/10/2009

Food was average taste, and very tiny. We were still hungry when we left. For the price we should have gone to Biaggi's in Cary and had a much better experience all the way around. more

Terrible - never go back 1/23/2009

Terrible from start to finish! Bad service, filet - not cheap! - is wrapped in bacon and not indicated as such on the menu. I would never have ordered it! Then trying to tell me that is how filet is served, come on. I was insulted. They didn't take it off the bill. Poor service. We will never go back - money down the drain! more

Nice but too Pricey 12/18/2008

Sorry but this is no Ruth's Chris or even Angus Barn yet the prices seem to indicate that they are. I also think the prior two mentioned are overpriced as well. Kids menu - $8, small Filet $29, come on. If people will pay they will survive but we found it nothing special for the prices charged. I'll admit that I don't like paying a lot for food and am not a big eater but this rest. has no real options that offer any form of value. $100 for an 'entertaining' dinner is ok if that's what you want. Pros: Ok Food Cons: Prices too high more

Great Atmosphere and food 11/3/2008

We love this place. The atmosphere is upbeat normally with piano player providing entertainment. We go here both for a family night out with our 2 year old, and when we manage to escape and have a more cosy meal for a couple. They are great with our son, and the kids menu is proper food not just the standard offering of mac and cheese and fried stuff.\r The adult food is good, want something simple - choose from the grill, want to try something new have a go at the main menu.\r Love it!! Pros: Great atmosphere and food to match Cons: Can get busy if you are eating later more

BAD SERVICE--PRICES ARE RIDICULOUS--FOOD PORTIONS SMALL 10/16/2008

BUT THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT.\r \r yes. the atmosphere inside is awesome, beautiful bar inside, rustice wood floors, walls, etc. and nice outdoor eats off beautiful downtown apex.\r \r but... food is bad and small portions.\r food is far to expensive and you pay for all side items.\r service is slow/bad.\r \r we never went back.\r hey, the mexican restaurant 6 doors down is a much better experience. Pros: to expensive for small portion of bad food, u pay for side items, bad service, mess Cons: sweet location, very cool bar area more

wonderful ambience 8/31/2008

I have eaten here a few times. The menu always has an interesting appetiser. The service is gracious without being stuffy. I love the decor and the lighting.\r It has become a reliable destination for a great meal. I live out in the country and fine dining is hard to find.\r the food is just ok at the chains(Ruby Tuesday, Fridays, etc.) and the service is ignorant. I think PCG is a gem. Pros: atmosphere, menu Cons: sometimes they remove good dishes from the menu more

Best Overall Experience 8/13/2008

From the signature appetizers to a variety of ever changing and scrumptious main course selections, Peak City Grill and Bar is a favorite among our friends and family. The atmosphere is perfect for any type of event whether it's celebrating birthday's or just spending time with your family over a fantastic meal. The management and staff are always welcoming and the overall experience will keep you coming back time and time again!!! Pros: Private Dinning rooms for large parties, Romantic seating upstairs...Fantastic atmosphere!!! more

4Star Right In The Heart of Apex 8/13/2008

My wife and I have been to Peak City many times for dinner and a few times for Sunday Brunch after church and each time, we can say we have enjoyed our dining experience. We love the fact that there is such a nice restaurant with great atmosphere in such a historic little piece of the Triangle. Each time we have been for dinner there has been a nice vibe in the air and the staff has always been top notch. The bar is incredible with a great wine list and an extensive microbrew selection (which changes quite frequently which is nice). I myself am a fan of a nice steak and I find PCG's filet to be one of the best in area. I like the fact that they give you many different options on how you would like it prepared (i.e. Rub, Oscar Style...). For me the only thing lacking for this place is the size. The downstairs could be a bit bigger around the bar area and the outside porch is too small for when the weather is ideal. It's too bad that the upstairs is currently renovated for office spaces, because that would be a great space for an open air Bar/Lounge.\r Also, if they could find a good local DJ to come in once in awhile for a ""special night of music/dancing"" that might help created some additional atmosphere for the ""locals"".\r Pros: Location in Historic Apex, Food, Wine/Beer Lists, Staff Cons: Can get crowded, Not enough outdoor seating more

An incredible experience 8/9/2008

To me, a good restaurant is more than just food. It is ambiance, it is the service?in short it is the experience. It goes without saying that this little nook has incredible food?trust me, it does. I promise you?ll want to go back. But that?s just the beginning. The service was superb, too. We were greeted at the door by a hostess that was very warm and friendly. Our waitress was nice, too, and the service was on the spot. The room was also very beautiful-- warm and nicely decorated. There was a wonderful large bar and plenty of comfortable seating areas--All of this in a charming old brick building in the heart of downtown. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and I had the special of the day. Both meals were delicious and we couldn?t stop sampling each other?s plates! All in all it was a nice, relaxing time.\r \r While you are visiting don?t forget to see the rest of this charming town, but don?t leave without having a bite in this charming restaurant. \r Pros: Great atmosphere, Unusual menu choices, Excellent service more

Beautiful dining room, excellent service, fantastic food 8/9/2008

Peak City was the highlight of my recent trip to the Apex area. The food was very good and the service was fantastic. The bread was delicious and warm. Excellent wine and beer selection and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Our server was very prompt and all our food came out smoothly. Both of our meals were outstanding. Peak City is a must whenever you are in Apex. Don't miss it! Pros: Great atmosphere, wonderful food, exceptional service more
