We have used an animal hospital over the years to house our Shih tzu. They did an okay job, but he is in a small cage on a shelf. We tried another pet boarding spot out south off of Horizon Ridge, but the administrative people seemed very forceful in trying to sell upgrades. It was such a ""big deal"" to them that the dogs had a flat-screen TV in their habitat. Well, when you walk through the facility, very few TV's are on. Plus, they are so high up, a dog would get one huge stiff neck trying to watch the TV. It was very expensive, over $35 a day. \r \r I called a couple of other boarding spots. Again, the pricing was high and I was talking with people giving me a sales pitch. \r \r I called Paws N Claws. No b.s., no sales pitch. I went over there the next day. It is not a brand new building, but it more than adequate. We liked the size of the living quarters, especially the fact the cages were next to each other for interaction with other dogs and that they could go outside and see other dogs on the other side of their cages. \r \r We liked the fact that the owners were the people we dealt with and they seemed to truly care about our and other peoples' pets. We left our pet for 8 days. When we called back to check up on him, they were honest and forthcoming about his behavior and eating habits. \r \r Sometimes, you really feel comfortable about some people. That is how we feel about Paws 'N Claws. We will be back. \r Jim Kruger more

NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED!\r My 90 yr old Grandmother boarded her dog several times overnight at Paws and Claws while visiting me in Las Vegas. The dog was going to stay one week Friday to Friday. On Wednesday Grandma got a call from the owner stating she had to rush the dog to the vet and that he went into a diabetic coma. We had to pick him up from the vet and take him to an emergency vet. Luckily the dog pulled through and the vet bill cost 631.00. The emergency vet is open from 6pm-8am. I then had to pick up my dog and take him to another vet. That bill was approximately 320.00.We then went to Paws and Claws to retrieve the leash, insulin and blanket. Not only did the owner NOT apologize she was not empathetic and showed very little emotion or customer service. When I told her the vet said he had hypoglycemia from too little food and too much insulin she advised me it was not her fault. I said okay the vet must be wrong and she said she isn't there to argue. She went on to tell me that I should be thankful that the dog isn't dead instead of chewing her out. When she presented the bill of 111.00 dollars to my Grandmother I questioned her making my Grandmother pay and she then told me that she took good care of the dog for several days. My Grandmother just wanted to pay and leave. I argued a bit more with her finally stating that if she would have showed any compassion and maybe gave my Grandmother a break on the bill that Grandma would have been happy. The owner then told me that maybe the vet should give her a break on the bill. I then advised her the vet is not responsible for the care, that she is. She also advised me she has a lot of dogs, I believe she said 40, to take care of. She also told me I am not welcome back, but my Mother and Grandmother are. I stated we would never come back there so she wouldn't have to worry about seeing us again. She also raised her hand as to push me out of the door while I was holding it open for my Grandmother and I advised her not to touch me. Finally I had to go back in because my Grandmother left her glasses. She locked the door as I approached. Then refused to answer the door until I banged on it extremely hard demanding the glasses back. My Grandmother left her glasses on the counter and she retrieved them from the desk, so she knew full well that Grandma had left them. Shady business and NOT AT ALL RECOMMENDED! more

NO customer (or doggie) service. 2/20/2012

I would NOT recommend anyone to this establishment. I used a Groupon in an effort to find a new place to board my dogs. I called to make a reservation and was told that the time I picked up my dogs did ot matter, the coupon would cover the 2 night stay I was requesting. When I dropped off my animals I was sorely disappointed in the facility, we had to walk through the grooming area, which did not appear to be cleaned in between grooming numerous dogs to a kennal area that resembled an animal shelter. The dogs were going crazy, as expected and although my older dog was visbily scared the attendant just forced her into the kennel without regard to her easing into an unfamiliar place. My puppy was frightened as well but got comfort from her ""sister"" not from the employees at Paws and Claws.\r \r This is the only place I have heard of that actually charges their customers to bring their own food for their pets, what happened to daog that are on special diets or have sensitive stomachs - not all dogs want to eat Costco brand food. As far as the dogs getting outside to play - you guessed it-you have to pay for that too. We could not leave our dogs blanket because I was told that ""we will lose it"" - I interpret that as the staff not willing to put time and attention into the animals enough to realize which blanket goes to which kennel/dog. \r \r So on top of all that, as I stated we were told the time we picked our dogs up did not matter, was all covered by the coupon, until of course we get to payment. Becasue the dogs were picked up after 12:00 (they were picked up within the hour), we were charged an additional night stay for both dogs, indivdually even thoguh they shared a kennel. When questioned I was told I signed a contract, I will give them that, and it did not matter what I was told over the phone. Both members of the staff I spoke to were completely intolerant and the farthest from any true customer service I would expect from a business that actually wants to keep or get customers - and yes one was the ""owner"".\r \r Get a refund on your groupon!! Find another place to go, they are a rip-off. Care about money , not animals more

Would definitely bring our dog back ! 12/3/2011

Our dog ""Lucy"" stayed for 8 nights at Paws n Claws. She had never been boarded before so I was concerned at first about how she would adjust.\r I called the staff a couple of times to check on her and they were good at relaying info as to how she was doing and behaving (good and bad). It took her a few days to ""come around"" to being in a strange place but she seemed to have warmed up to the idea of being in a different place and getting to know other people.\r Shes been home for 2 days now and is completely fine.\r She always goes with us camping and road trips and pretty much everywhere we do but on this trip we couldnt take her.\r Would we board her again at Paws n Claws? Absolutely ! \r I've already recommended them to others.\r Thank you Paws n Claws for the great service you provide and for taking Lucy out to play a few more times at no extra charge ! Im sure you noticed that it was beneficial to her and for that I sincerely appreciate it! more

WORST PLACE DON'T TAKE YOUR ANIMAL IF YOU LOVE THEM! 2/13/2009

We took our puppy there for 5 days! My parents picked him up because we were not due to come back for 2 weeks. Well we received a phone call from my parents my puppy was crying and licking my parents hands the whole way home. He had feces all over him. He lost 2lbs and he only weighs 7 1/2lbs. He smelled so bad and his bed his toys and my t-shirt (we gave it to him so he would smell me) were all filled with feces. If you care about your pet don't send them there. I called them all the time and they told me my puppy was just fine (Yeah because they probable did not even check on him) Cons: Everything more

What a great haircut & vacation 1/26/2009

My name is Bonnie. I am a mini poodle. I stayed at Paws n' Claws when my mom went to New York for 4 days. I had fun & got to run in the grass. I really liked the ladies at Paws n' Claws. they made me feel like i was their very own baby. My favorite thing about my vacation was getting my haircut and blow-dryed before I went home. . it was like when my mom goes to the day at the spa. I even got my nails painted pink, just like hers :) -- I will be so happy when my mom goes to New York again so I can visit all my friends at Paws,n claws. I would reccomend this place to all my doggy friends! Pros: I look great- the groomer is wonderful more

Dear Pomfluff -regarding previous review 1/23/2009

Dear Pomfluff ,\r My name is Sandy Hokanson. I am the owner of Paws 'n Claws Pet Resort. I want to start by saying that I apologize for your indifference regarding your pets visit at our facility. We proudly offer tours of our facility during business hours & usually suggest that you accompany your pet to his individual private quarters upon check-in, if your time permits. Our caring staff is trained to observe and monitor all pets activities while under our care. This type of elimination problem should have been addressed and cared for during daily monitoring. I would suggest however, to anyone boarding a pet that if you know your pet has a problem with changing foods that you should bring his food from home & keep his diet the same when you leave him. Some pets have a higher level of separation anxiety that others. We do our very best to ensure each and every pet is happy and healthy during their time with us. The mess on the rear end of your pomeranian shold have been kept clean & for that I do apologize again. \r Yes. A stay at Paws ?n Claws can be very exciting! Some dogs run around and have a wonderful time. They often leave exhausted but happy- and sleep a lot the first couple of days they are home. It's like going to a big slumber party- up all night, playing with friends. \r Please contact me directly anytime if you'd like to discuss this situation further. Please know that I appreciate ALL reviews- positive & negative because this is the only way I can continue to improve my services and commitment to be the very best pet resort for the local pet lovers community. \r Paws 'n Claws Pet Resort has been happily serving the Las Vegas valley's pets for over 20 years! Thank you for your time & consideration :) Pros: On site caretaker & wonderful caring staff more

Got the job done... 12/29/2008

I am indifferent as far as Paws and Claws in concerned. The staff was very friendly, and extremely helpful in getting me in, even though I was on a Christmas waiting list. I like the fact that the dogs get to go outside whenever they want... I did not actually tour the facility beforehand, but that is what I was told. My dogs were there for 3 nights, and when I picked them up they were very stressed out. I think they must have thought they were being surrendered to a shelter or something. They smelled terrible, like they'd been around several other dogs. And to make matters worse, my Pomeranian came home with painful liquid stool (they wouldn't let me write the d-word for some odd reason). This was probably because he was eating whatever kind of food they feed there and all the stress. He always has minor issues when switching foods. Still, they could have said something instead of me noticing the big stains and matted fur when I got him home. My dogs did nothing but sleep for two entire days after they got home. They do give multiple pet discounts, and their rates are competitive, but it's too much stress on the dogs to take them back there again. Not to mention I don't live close to Henderson. more

Caring staff, great customer service, perfect accomodations with their own outdoor area 10/25/2006

My dogs actually get to go outside! They have a huge grass area for playtime and when my dogs board there, their rooms are large and they have their very own private backyards. They can still see and socialize with others but are safe - it really made me and my husband feel as if our kids were cared for and safe from other dogs that may be aggressive. Snowy does well with others buy our muffy is very timid and we did not want them picked on so this was the perfect place. Very reasonable on price, too. I would and have recommended them and would recmmend to others. Pros: each dog gets their own indoor and outdoor area more
