Nice Theater, Iffy Audience 11/18/2002

I really don't see what people would find wrong with the actual theater, the plush purple seats are great, the sound system is fine, and I don't find anything wrong with the staff. And the selection is usually great, mostly big movies but also the odd indie release, like 'Big Fat Greek...' and 'Monsoon Wedding'. The only thing that ruins my experience from time to time is the audience. NEVER go to a late night showing here, because it will be full of people bringing their toddlers and talking on cell phones. Afternoon showings are much more enjoyable. Pros: Seating, Selection, Location Cons: Night Audiences more

Stay at home 10/26/2002

Very small screens and the worst sound system I've ever encountered at a theatre. I live around the corner but trek into the city to catch my movies. more

HORRIBLE 7/19/2002

I have been to this movie theater so many times because it is easily accessible. This place is a horror! Thestaff is rude. One time I went to a movie, I htink it was Harry Potter, and the staff was sweeping the movie theater while the movie was ending! They were dragging around these dustpans and were very noisy. I do not like the staff behind the snakc counter either, I think they can be a little more courteous. Even the blonde girl at the ticket booth was rude. I don;t like bashing anyone but this place needs a whole new group. more

How AWFUL! 5/27/2002

We saw the 5:50 showing of "Insomnia on 5/27. Throughout the entire film, cell phones were ringing and people were ANSWERING them, which at one point caused us to miss several sentences of the dialogue. The ushers in the aisles did nothing. Additionally, 3 or 4 times the speakers cut out on one side of the room, causing a pretty distracting crunch each time. Finally, when leaving we had to inch our way down a cramped staircase through a double line of patrons waiting for the next showing. We attempted to speak to Tommy, the manager-on-duty, but after about ten minutes gave up. They really need to clean up their act, have a fire inspection and tell the ushers to crack down on talkers and cell phone users. more

A great place to have you movie RUINED 5/27/2002

This theateris very popular with loud mouths who like to bring infants to late night R rated movies. If you like to have crying and trash-talking accompany a serious movie like Insomnia then this is the place to you. As a bonus the employees and managers are rude and foulmouthed jerks who have no problem telling you that the baby problem is none of your business. Love it! Hopefully the sound will work when you're there. Cons: rude, noisy, expensive more

Frames per Second 5/15/2002

Since the Pavilion on Flatbush underwent renovations, I generally head to the Southwest end of Prospect Park if I'm aching for B-movie satisfaction. The Pavilion (which is cattycorner from the weird Bartel-Pritchard Square) always screens the latest blockbusters and/or horror flicks. Few art films here and that's fine by me. Hey, I like a little action. The theaters themselves are a mixed bag, though. Purple seats aside, this is standard multiplex fare. Not too small but not that big either. Furthermore, the floors are filthy, especially the stairwells. In its favor, the Pavilion has a quaint little restaurant called the Living Room Cafe. With its good view, funky furniture and fairly tasty fare, this element bumps The Pavilion above most other multiplexes. The question is who goes to a movie theater for lunch? Who wants to eat after watching ""Glitter?"" Pros: Cafe Cons: Hygeine more

Recently Revamped 5/12/2002

The Pav had gotten a bit grunged-out, but a recent upgrade raised it a few notches in terms of cleanliness and service. Now it's the Slope's best bet for mainstream flicks, though it could cut down on catering to kids. more
