Scarlett's Story 8/22/2007

Our Jack Russell puppy, Scarlett, was attacked by another dog and her hip was broken as a result. We took her to Oradell Hospital in Paramus,NJ, for surgery on August 16th. She died three days later. The decision to take Scarlett to Oradell is a decision that my family will regret for the rest of our lives. We did not have the luxury of time, nor had we read the numerous negative reviews about Oradell posted on the internet. Cornell Veterinary hospital in Ithaca NY ( one of the finest, most caring institutions in the country) was the obvious choice but a five hour drive away, If we had it to do again, we would have made that drive.\r \r We were told by the orthopedic surgeon at Oradell, Dr. Jonathan Miller, that Scarlett was healthy enough for surgery and that her chances for a full recovery were excellent. The surgery, he told us, ( to repair the hip-with a pin) would cost Approx. $6, 000- and upwards. $6,000 is a lot of money for most people ( it certainly was for us ) but w more

Expensive and Unreliable 6/28/2007

I agree with most of the reviews already posted. Sometimes I get fast service, but most of the time it seems as if they care more for their money and less about their "patients". For bandage changes my dog had to sit in a cage after being dropped off at 7 am and not seen until 7pm! No food either! When I asked why I couldn't just bring the dog in the evening when the doctors were "less busy" with "non-emergency" patients, I was told it wasn't part of their "policy". What about what's best for the animal? The doctors won't call you back unless you harass the staff repeatedly and their fees are insane. When it seems as if they can't handle their load of "emergency patients" I asked for a referral to another facility and the staff Member, Stephanie (beware of her I caught her in multiple lies to me once) said "oh once one doctor starts treating your dog shouldn't you just continue with the same doctor?" making me feel guilty because I question their authority and practices. Dropped the Ball, Bigtime! 6/6/2007

On a recent Sunday evening, I entered Oradell Animal Hospital with my pet who was having unexplainable seizures. After a short wait, the vet came in to explain that a battery of tests would have to be performed (after a long scientific analogy) as to the possible causes. She said full scan of blood work, urinalysis, and x-rays were what was necessary to get the full picture. All this for the bargain basement price of $600! She also told us that we would be contacted by another vet on Mon with the results. Well, Mon came and went after 3 phone calls to them. Oh they assured me that "someone" would definitely call back. Fat chance! Tues came and so I called again and to no avail. I was at my wits end. My cat was not well and no one would tell us what was wrong with her. My sister called them on Tues night around 9:30 and she was told that the on call vet will definitely call back tonight. What is an Emergency? 3/17/2007

3/17/07\r \r My sister awoke last weekend to find her normally-perky poodle, Jack, laying still on her bed. She helped him off the bed while he whimpered and held his back in an odd arched position. When she let him out to relieve himself, he just laid down on the lawn.\r \r She carried him into Oradell Animal Hospital because Jack's condition alarmed her. The doctor gave him a steroid shot - said the problem might be in his spine. Then he gave her this psychological sucker punch: "If he is not improved by Monday, call me because then we will have a true emergency."\r \r The message was clear: "You should not have bothered me"\r \r Shame on this doctor! more

Very Happy with Oradell Animal Hospital 2/28/2007

My kitten was spayed Friday by another animal hospital. By the time I got her home, she was pacing back and forth. She had a piece of medical tape wrapped so tight around her paw, she was stressing over it and I could not get it off. After two hours of being home, the hospital who spayed her told me that she would be angry at me and hide. I am glad I didn't just let her hide because she came running to me and jumped on my shoulder and she was having major problems breathing. It sounded like a gurgling sound and I was really scared. I was referred to Oradell Hospital and they took her immediately, the staff on a late Friday evening were polite and caring. The emergency room Dr. Adam Eatroff was wonderful. He spent time with her and explained what could have caused her problem. He examined her for awhile and I decided to let her stay awhile. HIGHWAY ROBBERY 1/31/2007

Although they did save our dog which was a blessing and they did tell us that night an estimated cost of what it might be. We had to leave a $1,000 dollar deposit otherwise they would not treat our dog. I have the following complaints.\r \r First we received the total bill two months later. I work in the medical field in a Major teaching hospital in the area so I know the costs of medical tests and hospital stays. But I was truly shocked when I looked over the bill. They charged us $94.00 dollars for one IV bag each day x 5 days, a $84.00 dollar charge just to administer medication twice a day. So they not only charge you for the medication but to give it???? You would think the meds administered would be included in the daily hospital stay charge.. Plus IV bags cost only $9.00 dollars each from the pharmaceutical company. I called and spoke with the Hospital Administrator who also handles the billing. I proceeded to ask her about the above and she abruptly interrupted me, I asked more

Excellent and exceptional cardiac care 1/19/2007

Everything about our experience at Oradell was exceptional. The staff is efficient and caring. Dr. Schrope, the cardiologist, is professional, caring, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable. Our Westie had a serious heart problem and Dr. Schrope correctly diagnosed it and explained all of our options. He successfully performed the heart procedure.We were given a written estimate explaining all of the costs, and were happily surprised when the final cost was less than the estimate.More importantly our dog received quality care and a life saving procedure. more

You wait 5 hours to see the doctor...they give you an estimate for 6,800 for surgery...went to another hospital cost 1200.00 and received the best service...never again coming here. more

Friendly Staff; Exceptional Veterinarians 12/11/2006

Upon my first visit to Oradell Animal Hospital, I found the reception area staff courteous and efficient. My appointment was at 9 am with a orthopedic specialist and the vet saw us at 9:15, even popping in for a minute to tell me he'd be with me in five minutes. After asking me many questions and examining my dog, I was only charged $89 for an office visit. \r \r The new facility is very nice, and the waiting room is calming even for a nervous dog. more

Run away from this place. 9/14/2006

We took our cat there in the middle of the night out of desperation. Next thing I know, I get hit with a $865 bill. For starters, they will charge you $145 for just pretty much walking in. Then every other procedure, treatment, etc is priced almost double or triple what other vets will charge. This hospital's owner has obviously figured out that when it comes to pets and emergencies, they can get away with pretty much charging whatever they want because the owner's emotions are in charge. \r Also, beware when they are briefing you about the condition of your pet. They will make it sound extremely serious and will also try to convince you to keep him there. Transfer your pet to your regular vet the very next day, if you can. PROS: 24 hr emergency service. CONS: Extremely overpriced. more

Questionable expertise at high prices 8/16/2006

I had a 9 AM appointment and saw the doctor at 9:40. I went in for a consultation on my dog's arthritis. \r \r Prior to my visit, I brought my dog's medical records from his previous vet to Oradell. I asked if he had read the materials. The vet said no and began to say " I never ..." but didn't finish the sentence.This doctor spent a couple of minutes with my dog -watched him walk down the hall and felt his joints and told me I should try and reduce his pain medication. Then he started to leave the room. I had to tell him to wait so he could give me an assessment of my dog's arthritis and posssible things we could do to make him comfortable. He said " his hips are terrible and his knees are terrible and there is no sense wasting money" Then he left. For this sage advice I paid $145. I've been going to vets for 25 years and have never encountered one so callous. PROS: They're open 24/7 in case of emergencies CONS: Lack of professionalism, expertise, compassion. High price more

Checked their ears and the bill was $250!! Never again! 8/2/2006

I had just rescued 2 freshly born kittens (umbilicle cords still attached and eyes still shut) and decided to take them to Oradell to make sure they were healthy. I made an appointment for my 2 kittens. After a long wait, we saw the vet. Literally, he looked at their ears and that was it. The bill....$250!! Are you kidding me? If you love your animals... 11/9/2005

This is a great vet center and animal hospital. All of the vets that I have ever dealt with here truly love the animals, and they have all sorts of tricks for calming them down, minimizing their pain, and generally just getting them to do what is needed. What is especially helpful is that they are open 24 hours and they have an effective triage. We have only had good experiences here. My dogs don't even cringe when we drive up - which is a lot to say for a vet. more

Great emergency care 11/9/2005

We ended up visiting this hospital on an emergency for one of our cats. I was impressed from the moment I walked in. The doctors were very thorough in diagnosing our animal (at 9pm at night), and the support staff couldn't have been any more caring. We ended up having to leave her there, and the doctors called us with frequent updates throughout the night. In the end, they weren't able to save our cat (she had advanced Leukemia, and we didn't know). They brought her in to a family room to be with us for a while, and the doctors let us take as much time as possible. They helped us make arrangements for her creamation, and took care of everything for us. A week after the entire ordeal, we received a hand-written card from the two doctors that worked on her -- it was the most thoughtful thing we could have received. This animal hospital will take your pet on a moments notice. Our cat required surgery after getting in a fight and they told us up front what every single thing would cost so there were no surprises, and they took good care of our pet! more

TOO big TOO pricey 9/2/2005

I took my puppy there at the Emergency Clinic and didn't see a doctor for FIVE HOURS it was horrible. The cost to go there is ridiculous but they're the only place open afterhours on weeknights/weekends so if its a real emergency... you don't really have a choice. more

Vonderful Vet 6/21/2005

I've been using Oradell Animal Hospital for over a decade. From my Doberman Pinchers broken leg 15 years ago to our little Chihuahas eye injury due to a run in with our cat. It seems a lot of our visits have been emergencies but their well care is wonderful too. Oradell Animal Hospital has provided excellent emergency care. Granted their prices are up there, unfortunately animal care seems to be pricey everywhere. Their staff is pleasant and their doctors are extremely knowledgeable. They took my cat on short notice when he got in a fight and took good care of him. They squeezed us into the last appointment and saved me the emergency fee. All the meds and everything were included in the price. more

VERY EXPENSIVE 4/26/2005

They charged more than double what other clinics charge. The service was very good and tehy were very compassionate, but when I got the bill I was completely astonished. It was mone thatn double of what I suspected it would be. PROS: They are good at what they do. CONS: Be prepaired to spend a lot of money. more
