It seems as though you are the kind of person to rant about something in a restaurant in order to get free food... How unfortunate. You missed out. If you weren't being so crabby then you would have been able to experience everything that Nami has to offer. Their staff is wonderful, and caters to your every need. more

Mediocre food, Horrible service at the bar and restaurant 5/13/2008

We went there for my brother's birthday and I wouldn't return. The bar was horribly understaffed. My partner waiting there for 20 minutes to get our drinks as there was no table service. One poor woman appeared to be serving both the bar and restaurant. In the restaurant the waiter was inattentive and lazy - perhaps the earlier reviewer's ""Aisan man"" continues to wait there despite the review. Courses were slow. We had to flag him down to get dessert and coffee. When I called to complain the 13-year old sounding manager said, ""Our service is usually very good. I'll have to talk to Mark about that"". No offer of compensation. Even though the interior was lovely, especially the spacious bar, I have no incentive to return. Pros: Ambience Cons: Poor service, mediocre non-sushi food. more

incredible sushi 5/6/2008

i am consistently blown away by the creations of the 2 primary sushi chefs at Nami - Hide and Cesar. i always sit at the sushi bar and settle in for a large Kirin Ichiban beer or one of the many premium sakes offered. the happy hour specials are decent but half-priced bottles of wine on Sundays and Mondays is also a good choice. i guess i could be considered a ""regular,"" and i am rarely let down. the service is great - i am surprised to read other reviews complaining about the staff. i think they take pride in the food and rightly so. i recommend it over Origami any day. more

Pretentious, sushi is okay. 4/26/2008

Nami is very clean and has a nice floor layout. Our server was nice but the vibe of the place was very snobbish and plastic. Sushi had a very fishy taste, so the fish might not have been very fresh. Won't be back myself but give it a try, maybe you'll have a different experience. Pros: My boyfriend had a good teriyaki steak. Cons: Could hear waitstaff complaining about customers. more

sushi is okay, service is not 4/7/2008

First visit was good, 2nd visit was okay, our 3rd visit I decided to show some friends a good time but we had a crappy waitor (Male Asian dark complexion). We are from the restaurant industry and are extremely forgiving but even this was beyond dismissing. He completely ignored us, was slow to bring anything and we always had to flag him down for service. When we did get his attention, he treated us like we were totally annoying interfering with his time standing around. The kitchen food was terrible. Dried tonkatsu, we returned it and it still came out dry. The only explanation was the prefried the sliced tonkatsu to prepare for a busy rush. Big mistake. We're not going there and paying these prices for fast food. The waiter took it like a baka and didn't even notice that we did not eat it the second time. We will still go there for Hire's sushi. March 2008 - Was there again and the kitchen food still needs work, hopefully they fix that soon. In the meantime, Hire's sushi is still top notch. I can't speak for the other chefs, but give them a little time. Just avoid the little dark Asian Waitor...bad service. Pros: Good atmosphere, decent sushi Cons: Bad kitchen food more

Great happy hour prices 2/29/2008

I've always found Nami has great sushi. It's happy hour prices are great! more

Terrible Service - don't go here unless you want to be treated rudely 10/23/2007

Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the food at this restaurant as the service was so poor, we never even got any food. We had to ask for menus, tell the bartender more than once that we were ready to order and put up with her walking away mid-order to help another customer. Moreover, the place was half full at best on a Saturday night. Hardly an establishment that can afford to be rude. Literally, I have never been treated so poorly. Even after cancelling our order and asking to speak to a manager, it was cold comfort. He did little other than offer us a small gift certificate. No thanks. We won't be back and I won't even give it to someone else as I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone. more

First Class Sushi Experience 8/21/2007

Nami is phenomenal. We recently moved here from the New York City area, and had a hard time adjusting to the relatively few sushi restaurants in the Twin Cities - then we found Nami. Nami is easily as good as sushi I've had in Los Angeles or New York, if not better. Their rolls are creative and delicious, and their fish is always extremely fresh. I was surprised to read reviewers writing of low quality fish - not on any of the four occasions we've eaten there. Pros: Best fish in the area, great rolls more

The wave welcomes you 7/29/2007

Pros: good fish Cons: there is only one Edai more

Great Food But... 5/1/2007

We had a large group so we were forced to pre-order, with the help of the bitchiest manager ever, ""G,"" we ordered way too much, although she made me feel guilty for how little I was ordering since they ""had a large party that night so they really expect more to hold such a large table."" It was too late to change to another venue as it was a celebration for a girlfriend of mine, but I would have love to tell her what she could do with our order. Having worked in the restaurant industry for years myself I don't know HOW this woman has a job, I assume she's married to somebody. Outside of THAT, the food was fantastic, the drinks were also very good and the servers were all VERY nice. The service was lacking a bit. We had to track down someone to help us more than once (and no we aren't those high maintenance types!), but they were obviously busy. Pros: Great Food, Good Martinis, Nice Staff Cons: Bad Management, Servers Spread to Thin to Provide Ample Service more

Great sushi, great service, great value 3/31/2007

I went here after hearing other friends talk about wanting to go. I was pleasantly surprised by the minimalist but warm interior, and the waitress was helpful, even recommending a roll that was not on the menu. The drinks were a bit over priced, but the rolls were really reasonable, and the fish fresh and excellent. Overall, I would go here again anytime. I would only request to sit by the sushi bar, because that is where the ambiance and action are best. Pros: Ambiance, service, location Cons: drink prices, no parking more

Beautiful interior decor, decent sushi 2/17/2007

If you're a foodie and only remember the decor of the place, it speaks much of the menu. In general, Nami is a great place to go for a night out. Beautiful interior furnishings, very luxurious feel. Unfortunately, this ends up overshadowing the food, which is good, but not outstanding. The sushi overall is fresh, but portions are a little smaller than expected given the the price paid. Pros: Ambience. Cons: pricey. parking. more

average bland sushi 2/11/2007

My friends and I have drastically different reviews about this place even though we went there at the same time. One of them thought that this place had amazing sushi and although I usually trust her sushi judgment, I have to vehemently disagree. My sushi rolls were small and unappetizing. The rice was dry and the fish had, well, an overly fishy taste (an indication of bad/old fish). Our waitress was also extremely inattentive, and I believe she took her break during our dinner so we were constantly searching for her. Cons: expensive, dry rolls, bad fish, bad service more

Gooed but expensive 11/21/2006

First of all Nami has a cool bar with couches. Great place to have a couple drinks. The food is all very good, but pricey. There is a hapy hour, not sure what the deals are though. The menu has more than sushi, so it's good for your non-adventurous friends. Pros: The bar and the food Cons: Price more

Good but too hyped 9/15/2006

I will say that the rolls here are excellent (possibly the best in town) and the space is awesome. However, the rolls are quite small and some of the most expensive in town. Service is mediocre, at best also. Worth a try! Pros: Rolls, Ambience Cons: Service, Parking, Cost more

Best Sushi in Minneapolis 7/27/2006

I love sushi and have been to most of the sushi restaurants in Minneapolis. Nami is the best. They have very fresh fish and their sushi chefs are great. It is really fun to sit at the sushi bar and have the chef make recomendations and experiment with some new things. more

Nami No More 7/18/2006

I took 7 friends to Nami for my birthday. We hadn't made a reservation as our plans weren't concrete. However, the hostess agreed to seat us. After being seated we were promptly served warm, damp towels. That is where the promptness stopped. It was at least 30 minutes before our drink orders were taken. It was another 15-20 minutes before the drinks arrived. Only then was our food order taken. Our appetizers arrived another 30 minutes later- edamame and pan seared veg. dumplings are hardly time consuming to prepare. It was at least 30 minutes later that half of our entrees appeared. Half. For 15 minutes 4 of us sat with our food cooling while the other 4 waited patiently for their meals to be served. Not once during the entire experience did our waiter express any apologies or concern for our satisfaction. More upsetting was his blatant rudeness toward my guests when they inquired about menu details. If our impromptu arrival was unwelcome, we would have preferred to have been turned away. The neglectful and sub-par service we received as a result of being seated was unwarranted. I respect my friends and enjoy celebrating my birthday. I won't be celebrating at Nami in the future. more

Average, Average, Average 3/12/2006

Nami is not a place I will go to great lengths to be a patron at again. It was average by all means. I suppose I have grown to prefer the intimate settings of true family run sushi houses with charictaristic Japanese decor, tatami mat seating and a no shoes policy. The decor is beautiful, however compairable to just about any other ""trendy"" restaurant in Minneapolis. Nothing stuning about it. The sushi were average and no better than something you can pick up made fresh at any Byerly's. I was shocked at how slow the place was for a 7-8pm dinner crowd on a Saturday night. I made reservations expecting the place to be packed, not necessary. Pricey...two pieces of sushi for $6.50-8.50, please. Nice place to try though it did not live up to the expectations presented online or in Minnesota Monthly. Not for beginers. Some sushi awareness recommended. Pros: Decent Menu, Parking?, Informative staff Cons: Pricey, Average, Blah more

Going for Happy Hour? FORGET IT!! 1/13/2006

Happy Hour specials only limited to the Bar area and the tables! You can't even eat at the couch!!! What's up with that? Trying to find a spot to sit is impossible. So if you are going there for happy hour.....FORGET IT! Didn't even tried anything......Unable to..... more

Highly recommended 11/29/2005

I definitely recommend Nami. Good for couples and small groups. Ambiance is sophisticated and sleek and great sushi/drinks for happy hour. Normal prices are reasonable as well. The service has been average to above average, depends on the server, but never had any issues in the past. Pros: ambiance, sushi, price more
