Best

It seems as though you are the kind of person to rant about something in a restaurant in order to get free food... How unfortunate. You missed out. If you weren't being so crabby ...

Worst

Nami is very clean and has a nice floor layout. Our server was nice but the vibe of the place was very snobbish and plastic. Sushi had a very fishy taste, so the fish might not ...

Slightly above average 8/24/2004

The ambiance at Nami is nice, however the sushi is only about average. The nigiri selection is pretty good, but the selection of rolls is boring unless all you want is some kind of tempura roll. A nice palce for a date or something special, but not someplace I would want to go more then maybe once a year. I can get my sushi elsewhere. The wait staff are also not the greatest. One glared at our table as she was taking our order, like she was doing us some huge favor by going out of her way to be our waitress. Pros: ambiance Cons: , sushi only okay, poor service more

Best Service and Sushi in Town! 3/6/2004

Hands down Nami is the best. We go out to eat all over and simply had the greatest experience. The waitstaff (we think our server's name was Gabrielle) was extraordinary! She was professional, personable, gave great recommendations, and the sushi was always cold and the freshest in town. On top of it all, the warehouse space is beautiful and we loved the attached bar. We will go back again and again. Pros: Ultra-fresh sushi, Fantastic service, Ambiance more

Nummy Nami 9/25/2003

Very stylishly decorated, good downtown location and above average sushi. The prices were slightly high but the service was good and prompt, especially considering we had a fairly large group of 10 all ordering sushi at once. The tempura vegetables were well prepared as well. Pros: sushi , decor, location Cons: prices are high more

Overpriced and overserved 5/15/2003

I just ate there with some friends and based on other reviews in this site, was expecting a fun and fabulous meal. It was not that. The food was average - not bad, just average and rather unattractive for sushi. The service was terrible because we had to fight every few minutes to keep the staff from taking our half full plates. The bill with one bottle of wine, three entrees and three appetizers came to over $180. I would not go again. more

Good Food - Nice Atmosphere 4/28/2003

Saturday night at a Japanese restaurant in the Warehouse District? Who would have thunk it? Nami has done an excellent job of refurbishing the first floor of an old printing building. The decor is chic, the crowd is happening, and above all the food is excellent. The sushi is up there with the best in town. The broiled tuna collar is an outstanding appetizer. The standard dishes also hold their own. My only complaints are value ($7.25 for a Bombay and Tonic?) and service. Our meals arrived 10 minutes apart because ""the sushi chef was a bit behind"". Well then, why don't you wait until he catches up before serving the hot items?? If Nami can solve these issues, they will be around for a long time! Pros: Food Quality, Menu Selection, Overall Atmosphere Cons: Service, Not Greatest Value more

Poor Service 3/31/2003

The food was not bad.Ambiance was great. But service was very poo.Our waitress charged our next table to our bill. The other waitress who add water kept coming every minute which is too frequent and become a hindrance of our comfort.Need to train better on the waitresses. Will have second thought on going back. Please improve on waitress training. more

Nami is Nummy! 3/30/2003

I've eaten sushi all over the country, but Nami has definitely taken to one of the top places I've been to. The Unagi is THEE BEST I've ever had and the crunchy roll is fantastic. I've already been there twice in a week and felt so confident in them, I recently took my sushi-virgin parents there for their first experience and they loved it! Another friend had had a bad sushi experience at another local place (starts with a K, ahem) and his experience at Nami has him a changed man and he craves sushi now! Also, don't be afraid to try the Red Bean Ice cream - it's awesome, although the Green Tea ice cream wasn't so good. Keep it up Nami! You'll be seeing me a lot! Pros: Quick, Friendly, YUMMY Cons: no free parking more

Best sushi 3/10/2003

I checked out Nami for the first time and I would not hesitate to say that it is the best sushi I've had in the Twin Cities. The restaurant is very spacious and has a very unique flavor to it with its structure, location, and music selection. I was impressed with the size of the nigiri. I highly recommend the crunchy roll! However, the crunchy roll was too expensive like most of the appetizers. Sushi prices were comparable. Five items on the menu were unavailable...this needs to change. Service was friendly and competant enough, but the waitress needed to study the menu. No excuses of inexperienced staff or the restaurant just opening. The waitress promised to get drink orders after dinner when we sat in the lounge, but once the bill and tip were paid she disappeared. Maybe too many friends at the bar to chat to?? Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: prices, service, entree availibility? more

Pleasure to recommend! 3/7/2003

Nami's sushi freshness has never dissapointed. Creative presentations and recipes. Try the butter fish! Interior design is impressive as well. Look out for some stuck up server staff. Overall number one in my book. Pros: fresh fish, ambiance Cons: stuck up staff more

SuperNami 2/14/2003

The ambiance is superb. Sushi was better than average for the Cities. Service was a bit lacking even for a slow evening. The wine list was adaquate. Over all mostly worth $200 for dinner for four. Pros: Sushi, Decor, Intimate more

What's up with the sushi craze? 1/28/2003

The place is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, and the customers are uber-trendy. Food is ok. Wine selection is great. Pros: friendly, trendy, beautiful more

Yummy Sushi 11/15/2002

I went to Nami for the first time this evening... and I'm very impressed. Not was I seated promptly at the sushi bar, the food was excellent as was the service from both the chef and server. (Especially being a Friday night Downtown.) Not only did they have mouth watering Toro and Uni... which seems to be more rare these days, Nami also has a great selection of nightly specials, including the marinated butterfish. (A must have!!!) I can surely see myself becoming a regular at this new Twin Cities establishment. Pros: wonderful service, fresh sushi Cons: trendy music more

Quality Comes at a High Price. . . 11/12/2002

Expansive, urban spot with contemporary decor serving quality Japanese fare, including good sushi/sashimi. A fair amount of the menu is geared toward the American palate (teriyaki, maki sushi with avocado or mayonaisse based fillings, etc.) It was empty and quiet on the Tuesday night I visited and the service was adequate but not totally attentive which was surprising as there were 2 servers and only 5 tables to serve. The prices were surprisingly high (average 2 pieces of sushi for just under $5, most entrees over $17) and not justified by the service or the portion amount. They are probably justified by the decor and the high rent digs. Also, parking is nearly impossible as there are only high priced lots or limited street meters. Nami hits the mark for hip Twin Cities Japanese fare but this niche has a way to go to be competitive with larger cities. Pros: Very fresh sushi, Nice sake selection, Contemporary decor Cons: No Parking!, Unjustifiable Prices more

Best Nigiri Sushi in Mpls! 10/26/2002

My husband and I went to Nami on Friday night. The Saikyo Yaki (broiled butterfish) was excellent. Not quiet as good as the black cod at Nobu--NYC when Morimoto was there but still the best thing I had in TC. The salt grill fish needed a little more salt on the fins but still taste wonderful. Good size sushi and fresh fish! Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. Sayonara, O... and F... and Hello Nami. more

Where it's At! 10/25/2002

For once a sushi spot that can accomadate all of the people who want to eat there on a Friday and Saturday. The service wasn't excellent - but the atmosphere was superb and the location is prime if you want to venture out after. Way cool. Looking forward to going back! Pros: Friendly at the door, Excellent Sushi, Trendy and Hip Cons: Waitress was slow, Need a liquor menu more

hit or miss, but mostly hit 10/3/2002

Since Nami opened I've added it to my circuit of sushi restaurants that I frequent (I'm an addict!). Nami has a contemporary atmosphere that's a welcome breath of fresh air in the Twin Cities. The maki are mouthwatering, and the nigiri are fresh and moderate-sized ... pretty standard for the price you pay around the TC Metro. The service, however, though friendly, can be slow and rather inattentive, especially during peak times. It's a trade-off, but you can bet I'll be back! Pros: contemporary, consistently tasty Cons: iffy service, a tad pricey more

Finally! 8/27/2002

Minneapolis was needing a place like this. The atmosphere is fabulously decorated. I loved the sculpture in the entry. The sushi was great! They served very large portions and the cooked food was terrific as well. The tuna tataki was a treat! As far as the service goes, it is really hit or miss, a common situation with most new restaraunts. We did have a wonderful server who made many recommendations and offered us rolls that were not even on the menu. Very nice! The one critisim I have is that the wine list was limited and lacked creativity. To make up for that, the saki selection was a bit more impressive. As a whole, Nami is a nice, new addition to the Twin Cities. Pros: Atmosphere, People watching, Large Portions Cons: Service, Parking more

Comically bad service 8/23/2002

Early on Friday, my group was nearly alone in the restaurant. Our server begged us to include her in our conversation, then told us about how she had cut her finger cutting vegetables and liked to talk to people, which she didn't get to do as much as when she worked at a coffee shop. She hovered oppressively over our table except for when she brought soup and forgot the spoon when she disappeared for 10 minutes. After she ran our credit card, she hovered again as we signed. We gave her a nice tip anyway and hope that she's using it to to become a better server. The food was fine and the decor was beautiful. The bill was expensive, though, given the only ok food and the abominable service. I haven't been back, though I've heard from others that sometimes the food is worth it. Pros: Decor Cons: Obnoxious service more

sushi lover 8/10/2002

We have tried many sushi restaurants in the Twin Cities, and although several have decent sushi, it was not outstanding and the nonsushi choices were often lacking greatly. Nami serves up excellent sushi with large portions at reasonable prices. In addition, the non-sushi choices were top-notch!!! We highly recommend trying the softshell crab appetizer. The sushi was cold (as it should be) and tasty. The tempura was crisp with a generous portion, and the teriyaki salmon was the best I've had (other than home-cooked). Plus, the atmosphere is very comfortable and romantic and the service was superb. Pros: Generous portions, Romantic, Quality Food more

Great Atmosphere 8/9/2002

We could use more places in Mpls/St. Paul with this type of atmosphere! It is beautiful. The sushi is good (not great) but their crunchy roll is out of this world (the best in town). If you are looking for a fun place to start a night on the town, go here. Otherwise, if you are just looking for sushi, stick with Origami or Fuji-ya. more
