Abusive manager, S**t service, and overcharged. 3/30/2014

Put shortly, Mike (the service manager) is a crook will lie to your face about the condition of your car, while ripping you off on the price you came in for. S**T place, S**T service, AVOID IF POSSIBLE. I am an unbiased source, recent customer, and not a troll. \r \r I went in for a new tire change (x4 I had bought on tirebuyer.com), and was supposed to receive a discount - this was never applied, even though both MUNRO and TIREBUYER have a contractual agreement. In other words, Mike scammed me out of an extra $20. IN ADDITION TO THIS, he tells me that my front brakes are "going extermely thin" (on their last 5-10%) and need changing. Later that week I took off the wheels/brake calipers myself and saw that there was a good 65% left on the pads... what a loser, liar, and just overall bad f***ing person. He lost a future customer on me, and I just hope some smart person considers this review before getting work done at Munro in Danvers. more

DANGER - Stay Away from Monro next to BJ's in Cary, NC 11/26/2012

I went to Monro because I shop frequently at BJ's and my vehicle needed tire rotation (which was covered for free when I bought tires). The manager angrily pushed me to buy other services which I declined. He was so mad he threw his clipboard on the ground and stormed off. When I got home, my husband found he had overinflated the tires to 44 psi (should be 29 psi) and the lugs were overtightened so much he bent the lug wrench trying to remove them with a 4' extension pipe. He tells me it is not easy to bend this tool and that the torque the Monro employee applied to the lug nuts was excessive.\r \r This Monro employee created an unsafe condition for me and my husband. He apparently tried to purposefully damage my vehicle out of spite when I would not buy additional services. For your own safety, I do not recommend going to the Cary, NC Monro next to BJ's. 1 star is too much for this facility, although I would hope that other Monro's in the area carry themselves professionally and more

Danvers, MA (Don't Go) 11/25/2010

I brought my car in for a basic oil change to the Danvers, MA location. Unless you want to be taken for a ride, I wouldn't recommend this particular location. The guy behind the desk is conniving and should not be trusted after recommending a repair that wasn't even necessary. I also noticed a couple of women having come in saying that their tires were not rotated, even though it was supposed to be done with the oil change (it was advertised that way). I would not trust this guy and he takes advantage of women. more

price you can afford! 11/11/2010

i needed an oil change and they got me right in rotated my tires. i asked if my car was in good shape since it has alot of miles. they explained that everything looked good and asked when i had had my timing belt done. i never did it and did not know what it was, they explained what it was and what it did and gave me an estimate. i called a few other places, ntb and precision tune and they quoted me about 150 dollars more i then called aaa they where 300 dollars more. i brought it back yestarday and they did it for me and i think the car is alittle more faster but thats just me thinking. great guys over there very straight forward and brutally honest. they know thier stuff and priced right more

BJs and Monro - A TERRIBLE Combo! 10/31/2010

I've bought tire at BJs and had great experience but lately (2010) it is really a poor experience. The Monro manager is rude and makes it perfectly clear I did not buy tires from him but from BJs and the BJs tire guy did not say one word to me... he just stood there with a blank look on his face. \r \r I just spent $400 on a set of tires for my wife's Honda and the new tires have a foul odor that stunk up the garage and the house. My wife drove to Greenville and the car shook bad so I took back and they re-balanced tires but broke a lug nut and I have to take back today for them to fix. \r \r Overall I would give this site a negative star if possible and I am done dealing with BJs and Monro... I just hope they will stand behind my tire purchase and make it right. more

Taken For A Ride 10/28/2010

I went in for inspection. My tires passed, even though I knew they shouldn't. No, they had higher ticket items on their minds. First they took off my snows and said they then needed to do an allignment. As I had recently had this done, I doubted I needed it and said no. Then they said "Good news, all you need is an emergency brake cable" I couldn't figure out why, as I use my emergency brake only about 2 times per year. But I let them do it otherwise I wouldn't pass. On the way home I kept hearing a loud clunk everytime I braked. At one point there was a sound like I was dragging metal garbage cans behind the car. I went back the next day and they looked at it and said I had bad calipers. I, in a waiting room full of people, said, "No, you need to find the real problem. You already changed my calipers recently". They said they'd take care of it. After a long wait a guy handed me my keys and said I was all set. After sitting in Monro for 2 days I was anxious to leave and didn't ask what more

Ruined my rotor and wouldn't fix it. 10/12/2010

I had new front rotors on my car for less than a year and they warped a bit so I had Monro in Pineville turn the rotors. They ruined one rotor. The technician said their lathe had bad bands and they must watch the lathe to make sure it doesn't "chatter." He was busy working on something else and it chattered, thereby cutting grooves into my rotor. The rotor was usable but the brakes squealed. (yes, ceramic pads.) He told me to "set" the brakes by braking hard a few times. This didn't help. When I went back to have them turn them again they showed me the grooves and told me they were causing the squeal. I explained to the manager that they, in fact, had created the grooves. I asked him to turn the rotor again and he couldn't because there wasn't enough metal left over. He then said there was nothing they could do. I had to buy a new rotor at Auto Zone and put in on myself. These guys have great service when you're standing there with money in your hand. But if they ruin something....the more

Don't go here!! 10/9/2010

Don't expect free rotations and balances on tires bought here. They advertise this but don't honor it unless you spent more money there for other repairs. Get a tire quote from BJ's and take it to NTB (across the street) and they will match the price.\r The service and employees are MUCH better at NTB. Don't waste your time at this Monro. more

Worst service ever! 8/20/2010

If I could choose stars in minus I would for the BJ's Monro shop in Cary.I came in due to a muffler problem. Didn't have it fixed there, due to high prices. But I did agree to have the fuel filter changed as my car wouldn't start every now and then. Without even checking the car,the manager says the fuel filter had to be changed.I don't know anything about cars, and he gave the impression this would solve the problem. But it didn't. Another guy in the same shop said it was weird to change fuel filter without checking battery. Turns out the battery is bad and I was tricked into changing fuel filter instead.Asked for a refund or a new battery without paying, as diagnose was wrong.Turns out they never did a diagnose and just decided to change a part and see if it worked. Now my MPG is horrible and I need to pay for a brand new battery as they are not willing to help at all. They did a mistake and I am paying for it. Whatever you do,DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Unless you want to throw your money ou more

Nice weld job 6/2/2010

Great job. I have an '85 Corvette that needed a weld on my left muffler. Didn't really have the money to get a new muffler. They welded my old one up really good for just $50 bucks. Thanks alot! Great service. I may actually come back this weekend because my right muffler just broke off. lol more

monro auto service center 8/4/2009

afte spending a lot of money i towed my car and made it repair by another service center. When I went to monro they checked the only parts they replaced. more

Monro at its worst. Both the service station and main customer care 6/16/2009

When I took my car for the oil change, I was expecting that they will do the $19.99 oil change with free tire rotation as they were displaying on outside board. Guess what!!! the guy at the desk printed the printed the paper and asked me to sign it without telling what service he will be doing. I signed the paper thinking that he will be doing the regular oil change. \r \r I came back one hour later and was told that I have to pay $81.49. I was shocked and asked why and I was told that I have signed the paper. That guy tricked me into this. I was not able to contact the Monro customer service on that day because it was Saturday afternoon. \r \r I called Monro customer service on Tuesday and spoke to Chris Johnson manager for customer service. His response was horrible. He told me that he can do nothing about it. He told me I should have called on the same day and asked me did you called BJs. I told him that I have called both Monro customer service and BJs, but I was not able to reach Monr more

Always get a second opinion! 4/29/2009

Last week I took my car to Monroe for an oil change. It's always convenient because I can get my shopping done while they work on my car. When I went to pick up my car I was told that I had a leak in my intake manifold and that if I didn't get it fixed very soon water would mix with the oil and freeze my engine. I was given a ballpark cost of $700. My father suggested I take my car to his service shop for a second opinion where I was told that my intake manifold is NOT leaking. So I could have been out $700 for a repair I didn't need. As an aside, I also had tires replaced at Monroe months ago. Shortly thereafter, two of my wheel covers came off while I was driving. I called and was told that the serviceman was certain he tightened the lug nuts and that they weren't responsible for lost wheel covers after the car has left their parking lot. So I then had to pay almost $100 for new wheel covers. Needless to say, I won't be returning to Monroe. Pros: Convenient location, courteous staff Cons: Dishonesty more

Attempted to give me an unnecessary service! 2/25/2009

I would be careful going here if you don't know much about cars. The employee(s) tried to sell me a device that I didn't need!!! I went in because I thought I needed an alignment. While the service men had my car on the lift, I was told that my car was leaking brake fluid and that the brakes could go out at any minute; and would cost around $300.00. No brakes are no joke to me... but it didn't seem right. So, I got both a 2nd and 3rd opinion, and there was no brake fluid leaking, but there was a bump in my tire causing it to shake! They never once told me that the bump in the tire was what was causing the car trouble! more

Hell incarnate 10/13/2008

While on the outside Monro may seem professional and caring on the inside the closet they have are skeletons of more bodies than the holocaust. There customers may come away as well serviced but the lack of care for employees is embarrassing to say the least. The lack of respect that they contain for the personnel is atrocious and despicable. While looking from the outside the people may seem complacent but the managers are under payed while over worked. At a base pay of 40000 dollars a year the rest of the staff is utterly disregarded and tossed aside to 9.00 and hour when the job elsewhere may even warrant 12. more

super job 9/14/2008

on many occassions i have been into this location and always greated with a smile by the monro manager i had a problem with my car and after explaining the symptoms to the manager he went for a test drive and then walked me through his findings his hands on approach was very helpful and the repair costs were 1/2 of what i esxpected my vehicle will continue returning to his location. excellent and honest more

quality service at an affordable price! 10/13/2007

Monroe Muffler and Brakes located at the BJ shopping center has always been a reliable place to have work done on my car. Prices are affordable and quotes are honest. I have compared the prices quoted to me here with other local shops and have found cheaper prices here. My car has always been repaired in a timely manner and service has been professional and personal. Many times mechanics have personally explained the problems my car was having and prioritized issues my vehicle was facing. I highly recommend this location for repair work. more

Kind of slimy 6/9/2007

I have had mixed experiences there. My last experience they got grease and grime all over my wifes van steering wheel, drivers side door panel, and carpet. I told the manager and he immediately came out and cleaned it, but the door panel had fabric that showed the wear from were he had to scrub hard.\r \r There is a mixture of guys that care there and guys that don't. It seems like turnover is somewhat regular. \r \r One thing that makes me feel better whereever I take my car is if the actual technician doing the work will have a short conversation with me, preferably before he does any work. I have some experience with cars though.\r \r If you have no experience or just don't feel like messing around with having to worry with the details, but don't mind paying a little more I recommend Peak Automotive in Apex for imports and Brakes Plus in Cary for domestics. more

Good Service but be careful on repairs - BJs Monroe 4/22/2007

They are nice but you have to be careful when you are suggested replacement of parts. It really depends on the managers on duty. Unless you know if a part is really so bad that it needs replacement, don't go by their recommendation. They will suggest so many parts to be replaced that if you act dumb, you could be spending a lot of money on parts that don't need to be replaced.\r \r e.g. - they gave a quote of almost $950 to me in January. the parts at the local AutoZone are $280+ taxes. They have a tremendous mark-up on parts like any other repair shop. Always ask for the old parts if you get new parts. Ask before you give the keys. So any misadventure on their part can be avoided. They can't refuse to give you replaced parts. It is the law more

Quality service and prices 11/27/2005

After receiving nearly an 800 dollar quote to replace my breaks and exhaust at my local dealer, I decided to check out Monro Muffler which a friend recommended me to. They did a great job replacing and fixing my brakes and exhaust in a short period of time. The best part of all, was the price which came out to be a little over 300 dollars! I highly recommend Monro Mufflers to anyone who needs to fix their car. more
