Private Room - Great B-day Party - Very Nice Sushi 11/6/2011

The manager, Mark really provided a great evening for my wife's birthday party last Friday night! He was very responsive in helping me set up the party the two weeks prior to the big night. We had 18 people and all of them were very pleased with the private room. The sushi was just excellent! Half of the people there either said they were not big sushi fans or even said they didn't like sushi at all but after that night I believe they are converted :). Everyone enjoyed the evening! Thanks again Mark and servers Karen and Phillip - you did a great job and were very attentive to serving us!). Also thanks to the sushi chefs for preparing the boats - they were delicious... more

We love going to mikados!\r the bento boxes are well priced and the sushi is really good. You have got to try the susan roll! more

Best sushi in Austin! 2/9/2009

I absolutely LOVE this place! They have the best super white tuna and miso soup I have ever had and I have tried a lot of different sushi places, not just in Austin. This is a great place for dinner, and they also have great lunch specials. I would also recommend trying their Passioberry Duo, it is just to die for!\r This place can be a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it! Pros: Yumm! more

pretty nice 11/7/2008

I personally do not like the location of the restaurant because it's off a highway in a plaza that can be quickly overlooked. Luckily, the design on the outside made it nearly impossible for you to miss it. Interior wise was really nice-black, red and white were the dominant colors. Sushi and sushi rolls were pretty expensive, but if you order the bento box it's not too bad (~$15) and has a ton of sushi and a long roll. I ordered 2 rolls: spider and philadelphia. My server was really nice and gave me a miso soup for free because my two other friends ordered bento boxes that came with miso soup. My rolls came and I pretty much became disappointed from there. Bento boxes include a california roll, but you can ""substitute"" by adding more money. Each of my friends' rolls from their bento box had 8 pieces. However, my two rolls only had 5 pieces each. I am not sure why it is less, and I felt kind of gypped. The spider roll was okay; each piece of the philadelphia roll was big and didn't look like a usual sushi piece at all. It reminded me of ""kimbob"" sushi that koreans make. Anyways I ended up paying $18 for 10 pieces of sushi roll. Other than that, the sushi itself was very fresh and tasted good. Pros: good sushi, nice setting, good parking Cons: low quantities and overpriced more

specialize in the food itself and nothing more 9/25/2008

things to try:\r 1. bens roll (cooked eel, crabmeat, served in 2 sauce)\r 2. white tux roll( escolar jalapeno onion rolled with another escolar on top with garlic and pandan sauce)\r 3. seabass and scallop with shitake mushroom is todie for\r 4. sushi pieces is decent with generous portion, although quality is varied according to the sushi grade\r 5. try to sit at sushi bar to get the freshes fish and specialty item\r 6. bento boxes at lunch is a good deal for less than 20 usd/person\r 7. california/rainbow/ philadelphia is for kindergarden \r 8. service is varied depend on the crowdness, never hurt to just to ask the server for any assistance\r 9. dress is casual but appropriate Pros: great food , great service , great ambiance Cons: no full bar , no happy hour more

Good place to hang out but not for great sushi 5/26/2008

The atmosphere in Mikado Ryotei is great, really clean with nice decoration. Our waitress was very nice and always made sure our drink were filled. The seaweed Salad is excellent and the miso soup is great too. However, we felt quite disappointed from the sushi. We ordered the California roll and Ebi 2, it taste all right, wasn?t great. The sushi rice seems a little bit soft and the shrimp doesn?t seem fresh enough. \r If you are looking for great sushi, I will recommend Maru. However, if you are looking for a place to just hang out or even for a date. Mikado Ryotei is a great place to go. \r more

Generous portions, great service, great deal for the buck. 1/25/2008

My wife and I have been eating here for 2 years now (since we moved from DC). The cuts of sushi are some of the LARGEST around. Very fresh too. I eat lunch here almost once a week, sometimes twice or more too. The peppered tuna tataki is very good. And the lunch specials are a good bargain. Dinner is more expensive (as are all sushi places). The owner takes his time to say hello to everyone which is great and the sushi chefs are all very friendly if happen to sit at the bar! \r \r There are few sushi restaurants in the area that are a good deal for the buck (considering that sushi is just expensive in general), but this one ranks way up there. Innovative and good presentation on the sushi, and everything is quite consistent which is important! After two years, we've found many of our friends like this place too as we run into them from time to time!\r \r Lunch crowd can get really crowded too so for best service, come early around 11:30 or after 1:00....\r \r Highly recommended place. Pros: great sushi. Cons: Parking can be tight but never fills last row. more

Watch Out For Holiday Upcharge 1/21/2008

Mikado has always been one of my favorite places for Sushi. Service is great, food is always delicious. I was a regular customer until today. I was surprised to learn that Mikado will not offer a lunch menu on a holiday, instead requiring you to order from the much more expensive dinner menu. It is not just your mainstream holidays (Easter, 4th of July, etc.) they include Presidents Day, Valentine's Day, MLK Day, Labor Day, etc. While the Sushi is great I am unwilling to pay dinner prices just because it is Flag Day. The only ""Holiday"" I might consider paying dinner prices at lunch would be April Fool's day.\r \r Again the Sushi is delicious and great business lunch spot, but if it is a holiday (any and all holidays) bring your wallet because prices increase in celebration of the holiday. I guess Mikado will celebrate more than most due to the increased holiday revenue.\r more

Great Meal! 1/14/2008

I learned after coming in on a Saturday night, its best to make reservations. The place had a great feel to it, dimly light and a buzz surrounding it. The phone was great, and the service was even better. The only down fall, was our food did not come out at the same time. I was half way down eating mine, before the other plate arrived. I was quite surprised at something like this at a resturant of this caliber. Pros: Great food, great place! Cons: Food came out a different times..Also, make reservations! more

This is one of my favorites in Austin! 7/11/2007

I was introduced to Mikado in Jan 2005 when I used my gift card I received from my son for Christmas. I love their sushi! My favorite is the Tiger eye . But I can say that every roll i've tried there has been delectible. Their sashimi is pretty good too. They have bento boxes for lunchtime that are very filling and a great price. I love the edamame and their seaweed salad also.. The miso soup is very flavorful. I have been to other sushi places in Austin, but this place will always be number one! Pros: Evertything there is great Cons: A little pricey more

Top notch! Excellent! THE BEST!! 7/3/2007

This is the best restaurant in Austin period! Several times we were there, we were greeted by warm and professional staffs,(including the chefs). Both kitchen and sushi bar menus were skilfuly created! Most of the previous reviews were so precise and I could not agree more. Not only their fish and seafood are fresh, but also their poultry and meat items. And for the service, always prompt, and friendly! You don't easily can find it in this town , everytime I was dining @ mikado, though different servers, I always recieved great and knowlegeble service,I don't think the other Japanese restaurants in Austin can catch up with what Mikado is doing!!! Simply WAY UP THERE!! Pros: Food, Decor, Service Cons: Closed on sundays more

Sushi is EXCELLENT! 1/2/2007

MMM! Mikado's is GREAT! I'm originally from Houston, so I go to eat sushi a LOT and I have to say that Mikado's is better than a lot of the restaurants in Houston. Their sashimi always tastes fresh, and their rolls are great too! Even their cooked dishes are some of the best I've had. I love this place and this restaurant is a must visit for all you sushi lovers. Pros: Sushi, Ambience, Parking, Service Cons: closed on Sunday more

DELICIOUS!!! 11/26/2006

The best place to get sushi ever!!! I've tried many other sushi restaurants in town and this by far my favorite. Pros: Great sushi Cons: nothing more
