Downward Curve..... 4/8/2012

Service friendly but very clumsy and seemed to lack basic training/panache... No water glasses or regular spoons available? Place seems to have been trending downward the past several years, and it has been 2-3 years from previous visit. Now seems to be a magnet for fossils and/or the homely... Food was decent. $4 ice tea is pathetic. Go a few miles north and take in the much better Shops of Legacy restaurant area which is where the new dining options are located. Most likely will not return again more

Terrible food and rats 10/24/2011

We went to Mignon for dinner. Big mistake. The view is nice but the food is beyond description. The meat smelled bad and was obviously of inferior quality. I ate the fries and left the rest. While we waited for the food we saw a rat running around the server stand near the kitchen. Stay Away. more

Mignon takes the cake 2/20/2011

We recently celebrated a birthday at Mignon. They set us in a private room off to the side where we could really celebrate with our friends and family. We ordered appetizers and they brought them out ""family style"" which was thoughtful. The main course was timed perfectly after and our waiter had no problems keeping up with all of our requests. They really know how to accommodate their guests and make them feel at home. Most places wont let you bring a cake, for a small cake fee Mignon will. We will be back! more

Delicious! 11/8/2010

Have not had a meal quite this good in a very long time. More than anything, however, the service is something to rave about. It was a Friday night and the place was packed. Despite the fact that the restaurant was so busy, our waiter still managed to be attentive, friendly, helpful, and all smiles. He even helped us decide on what to have for dinner- everything looked delicious, we couldn't decide! What impressed me the most was how the manager helped the waiters. I saw him quite a few times bringing plates out to the dining room and picking up finished dishes. We had a chance to speak to him and it was just a joy. He was friendly and very funny. The wine list was phenomenal, the food was scrumptious and service was to rave about. I suggest all who haven't tried to make a reservation soon! more

BEST BRUNCH 11/3/2010

Usually, I come to Mignon for dinner, but the last time I was in town, our server mentioned a weekend brunch- we didn't even know they offered one! We came in on Sunday Morning and apparently we were the only ones left out of the dark! We sat on the patio and quickly ordered mimosas. Our server was Mike and he was friendly and very attentive. I ordered the crab benedict and my partner ordered the seafood crepes. Neither of us were disappointed. The hollendaise sauce complimented the crab and my eggs were cooked exactly how I had requested. I stole a bite of my partner's crepes and the seafood was fresh and light and very flavorful. Instead of ordering a dessert, we shared the pancakes. They were light and fluffy and the pears that topped them were sweet and tender. This may be my new favorite brunch spot. Make sure to sit by the water- the view is awesome! more

MUST TRY THE SCALLOPS! 10/19/2010

I had a dinner party here in the private dining room and my guests are still raving about this place. The service is five star all the way with out being imposing. Cozy atmosphere and beautiful patio.I have been here a few times and always think about trying something new, but the scallops are so good I always end up ordering them again and again. I also like the crab cake as an appetizer. It is breaded and just a little touch of spice. Be sure to save room for dessert ! more

Overpriced, Mediocre view, Mediocre Food, Bad dessert 6/5/2009

I was planning a romantic dinner for my anniversary. I called and made reservations for 7:30. When I called the next day to ask if they could move them up to 7:00, they had no idea what reservations I was talking about. I said whatever, then I'd like to make reservations for 7:00, and can there be lit candles on the table. Show up- the view is of the water, but you get a much better view from Mi Cocina which is caddy corner to Mignon, as you face busy Preston Rd. The noise level is high, and the music they try to play over it is... random, like iTunes running on a random playlist. No candles on the table. The Lobster Bisque we ordered for our first course was basically LeMadeline's Tomato Basil soup, reheated from the jar with a single piece of lobster dropped in each bowl. Not that LeMadeline's Tomato Basil soup is bad (in fact it's delicious), it just wan't what we were trying to order. We ordered a couple of specialy cocktails- these were a highlight- sweet, dessert type drinks, well mixed, and fun. As for the main course ( filet mignon and a 'water and turf'): the steaks were decent, the monk-fish was over-salted but somehow flavorless in spite of it. It was supposed to come in a horse radish sauce, and it was sitting in a pool of something white, but it had the flavor and consistency of salted skim milk. The steaks came with lots of sauce on them by default, which always make me suspicious (they should trust the quality of their ingredients), but they were tasty nonetheless. The dessert (the fudge cake with mint sauce or something along those lines)... well let me get back to the actual cake. The scoop of strawberry ice cream on the side was actually pretty decent, though nothing spectacular. The presentation was quite good, and the whole thing looked delicious on the plate. The cake was sitting in another no-flavor sauce- I don't even know what it was this time, but I think it was fruit based. The cake itself- burned, blackened, and crispy on the bottom. The scorched taste overwhelmed even the mint fudge sauce in the center of the cake. My partner said ""This is the worst dessert I've ever had"" and meant it- I would have enjoyed a wendy's frostee more, even for 8 bucks, and I Hate fast food (with the exception of Chipotle). Overall, go for an after work or after dinner fancy drink, and stay inside, and you'll probably enjoy yourself. Otherwise, you can get much better food for less. Or equally mediocre food for much less at someplace like Outback Steakhouse. Pros: Good steak and specialty cocktails Cons: Burned Dessert, Road Noise, Fish not so great, Lame bisque more

Blah and overpriced 12/17/2008

We wanted a romantic setting with good food and expected moderately high price, but only got one of the three (guess which). Bibb salad was very ordinary. The duck with poached pear was different and tasty. I don't mind spending $29 for lamb entree, but this was ordinary and meat was tough. The presentation of the bread pudding was beautiful but it was ROOM TEMPERATURE and very bland. It had white chocolate and needed something to give it flavor. Creme brulee had strawberries which was very different and added flavor but the custard was blah. The waiter was attentive but very unprofessional. He even gave us a hard time about the time we were taking making a decision despite the fact that there were only a few other tables of guests.\r \r I can see how the setting can be nice on a spring evening sitting outdoors. Inside though, they can't seem to figure out what they want to be. The bar has a TV which gives the restaurant a sports bar feeling which doesn't match with the rest of the place. The music was too varied (hip hop, light rock, and everything else). \r \r With the large selection of restaurants to choose from in this price range, you can definitely make a better choice. We recently went to Jasper's which was FAR superior. We'll go back there next time. Pros: view of lake and outdoor dining, attentive wait staff Cons: mediocre food at relatively high price, unprofessional waiter more

yet another hidden treasure...yum! 11/13/2008

located on preston on the very inside of the shopping center with a patio\r we went on a tuesday during happy hour just for drinks a few snacks \r ordered Apple Smoked Bacon Wrapped Texas Quail and Braised Beef Short Rib followed by Sauteed Prince Edward Island Mussels it was delicious!!! seems like a hang out for old people though\r we were the only young people in there. the deco was nice, service was quick, cute asian hostess\r the place is bigger than it seems upon entry...tiny bit pricey but it's a steak house after all\r \r over all a great experience will return again if I'm in the area\r \r Pros: great menu, food tastes great, friendly hostess, ok service Cons: wait staff could be a bit faster on their feet, tiny bit pricey, need more happy hour specials more

Mignon...good times.... 10/20/2008

I can't say enough nice things about Mignon. I love the Prince Edward Mussels as a starter, and the Seared Scallop entree is absolutely one of the greatest things I have ever placed into my mouth! I have a Creme Brulee obsession of sorts, so not to worry, Mignon always gives me a happy ending. \r \r Sure, as others here have mentioned, they can be a little crowded, especially on the weekends, but trust me, the wait is worth it. more

4 star food and service without the snooty attitude 10/19/2008

It's refreshing to find a place that can provide amazing food and impressive service without the arrogant attitude you tend to get from not only the management but even the service staff at higher end establishments around the country. Hats off to Mignon's!\r Dean Goodman more

Plano's best kept secret 10/19/2008

My wife and i went to Mignon's this past Friday evening because i had a serious craving for a big juicy steak . Unfortunately, my wife was not in the mood to drive to Legacy or to Beltline only to be told that without reservations,""it will be about a 30 to 45 minute wait before your table will be ready."" We live just around the corner and drive past Mignon's daily yet had not herd any opinions, good or bad, to make us want to dine there. I'm so happy that we did check it out. It's a beautiful restaurant with what has to be the best patio in Dallas. My wife had an amazing filet au plover and if enjoyed bone-in ribeye. What a serendipitous discovery Mignon's turned out to be. Soon to be Mignon's ""regulars"",\r Charles and Wendy K.\r more

I cant believe the other reviews! 5/22/2008

My husband & I went to Mignon's the other day because I had a major craving for ""steak & frits"" (fries) and a friend had recommended this restaurant. It was busy but we managed to get a great table on the patio for dinner. The steak was awesome- so much so that they have replaced Lavendou's as my new favorite. We also got the mushrooms, asparagus & the lava cake for dessert- it was all really great. We also loved the ambience & getting to watch the ducks & their babies. I just wish I could take their cool lights & decorations home with me!!! Pros: great food, great setting & great location Cons: nothing more

Poor Food and Service... 4/27/2008

Made reservation Friday evening, when seated we waited for service or to be greeted too long. It was not that busy of a night. The appetizers we ordered was fair, but our steaks were not cooked to our asking and disgustingly chewey, certainly not Prime steaks. A disappointing evening. The management did not care, and we made a wrong choice to try this place. Beware... Pros: Cocktail drinks Cons: Food, service and management(owners) more

Don't go on a holiday 7/5/2007

We made reservations for Easter brunch a few weeks in advance and were looking forward to going. I called the day before to confirm the reservations and they were for the wrong time. We adjusted our schedule to accommodate the snafu and made it there by the appointed time. We waited in the bar with a baby for an hour before our ""reserved"" table was ready. The entrance to the restaurant and the bar are ridiculously small and people were crammed in there waiting like sardines. Once we did get to our table, we looked around and saw table after table of disgruntled patrons...from getting served cold food after 45 minutes to an hour after ordering, to the wait staff completely ignoring them to tables being placed so close together that there was no room to move. It was obvious they weren't quite prepared for the influx of customers, but it was an absolutely horrible experience for mediocre food at best. more

Never Again 12/25/2006

We have been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened. We decided to go on Christmas Day. The menu sounded fabulous but the food was terrible. We apologetically complained but they could not have cared less. The manager was extremely rude and did not even take off a beer. He acted like, how dare we not like HIS food? My husband paid almost two hundred dollars for the three us. Don't waste your money. Pros: attractive setting Cons: poor foor and management more

First and last visit! 10/25/2005

If you want to be ripped off with poor service, cold food and disrespect from the owner/general manager, then be their guest. more

Save your money, eat at Wendy's 4/28/2005

The meat is better at Wendy's and so is the service more
