I was planning a romantic dinner for my anniversary. I called and made reservations for 7:30. When I called the next day to ask if they could move them up to 7:00, they had no idea what reservations I was talking about. I said whatever, then I'd like to make reservations for 7:00, and can there be lit candles on the table.
Show up- the view is of the water, but you get a much better view from Mi Cocina which is caddy corner to Mignon, as you face busy Preston Rd. The noise level is high, and the music they try to play over it is... random, like iTunes running on a random playlist.
No candles on the table.
The Lobster Bisque we ordered for our first course was basically LeMadeline's Tomato Basil soup, reheated from the jar with a single piece of lobster dropped in each bowl. Not that LeMadeline's Tomato Basil soup is bad (in fact it's delicious), it just wan't what we were trying to order.
We ordered a couple of specialy cocktails- these were a highlight- sweet, dessert type drinks, well mixed, and fun.
As for the main course ( filet mignon and a 'water and turf'): the steaks were decent, the monk-fish was over-salted but somehow flavorless in spite of it. It was supposed to come in a horse radish sauce, and it was sitting in a pool of something white, but it had the flavor and consistency of salted skim milk.
The steaks came with lots of sauce on them by default, which always make me suspicious (they should trust the quality of their ingredients), but they were tasty nonetheless.
The dessert (the fudge cake with mint sauce or something along those lines)... well let me get back to the actual cake. The scoop of strawberry ice cream on the side was actually pretty decent, though nothing spectacular. The presentation was quite good, and the whole thing looked delicious on the plate.
The cake was sitting in another no-flavor sauce- I don't even know what it was this time, but I think it was fruit based. The cake itself- burned, blackened, and crispy on the bottom. The scorched taste overwhelmed even the mint fudge sauce in the center of the cake. My partner said ""This is the worst dessert I've ever had"" and meant it- I would have enjoyed a wendy's frostee more, even for 8 bucks, and I Hate fast food (with the exception of Chipotle).
Overall, go for an after work or after dinner fancy drink, and stay inside, and you'll probably enjoy yourself. Otherwise, you can get much better food for less. Or equally mediocre food for much less at someplace like Outback Steakhouse.
Pros: Good steak and specialty cocktails
Cons: Burned Dessert, Road Noise, Fish not so great, Lame bisque
