I am very surprised about the negative reviews about middletown and especially Dr Bates. We have 8 pets currently and have now had 12 being taken care of by this staff and they have been nothing short of wonderful, caring and patient. I am an animal crazy person and have cried, been overwhelmed and have asked a million questions and have never, ever been treated rudely, no less have someone yell at me. Dr Bates, Dr Earle and the staff have been professional and very kind. more

I was very disappointment that i bring my baby kitten only 4 month old to the clininic don't even check him and just by looking at him tell me that he is dying i need to put him to sleep already had the needle in their hand ..mind u didn't even tell me how much it cost or even give me time to think i was emotional to hear about need to make a phone call ..i was so sad i really didn't want to do i rather took him home with me and let him live it out with me ..because he was fine still eating and playing and purring but just breathing hard. i was very disappoint with this clinic ..They show me that they don't care about anybody animals only money .i would never recommend this place to anyone ...they didn't even give me time to say bye to him and hug either or they was concern about putting him to sleep.Which i never would of done i would have let him come home with me and live it out with people who love and care for him ,not stranger that didn't care nothing about him and all they care about $ ...never will go to this place ever again ...May my little one rest in peace with the angels of kiity heaven <3.....We all need to get together to report this place ...i had a horrible experience with this place ...i want to report them i hate this place more

I brought my rescue dog there for an initial visit. The staff was not very nice at all and Dr. Earle was snarky as can be. He prescribed him Vectra even though we asked for something else and charged us for a stool sample that we never brought to him. That night we applied the Vectra and our dog had such a bad neurological allergic reaction that we had to rush him to the veterinary emergency room at 3am. I called the vet the next day (he was closed the day he had the reaction) to tell them and they didn't seem to care, not even asking how he was. When I called them a few weeks later and spoke to the ""office manager"" to tell her I had another vet and needed his heartworm test results faxed over to the new vet, she hung up on me. We also asked for a refund for the stool sample that we never took in and she told us we could not get a refund but we had to bring his sample in anyway.\r \r Stay away from them! more

I could not agree more with the negative comments made about Middletown Animal Clinic, specifically those with regards to DR BATES. It is clear she diagnoses animals before testing and in my opinion with the sole purpose of extracting the maximum amount of money out of anxious, heartbroken pet owners. As for bedside manner, she is a complete nightmare. I intend to report her and this facility to the State. REMEMBER YOU HIPPOCRATIC OATH. DR BATES. You take advantage of pet owners who lack the capability to do proper research or are in an emotionally weak state and will do anything a person in authority tells them to. You look at these poor souls as CASH COWS to be financially butchered. You bring in a great deal of money to MIDDLETOWN ANIMAL CLINIC so you are the facilities GOLDEN CHILD, but if you read the many reviews here you will see that you bring nothing but misery to the pet owners who have mistakenly entrusted you to do your job more

I just returned home from having my twenty year old cat euthanized by Dr. Bates. I rescued my cat when I was nine years old and have cared for her ever since. I brought my cat to Dr. Bates because she had suffered a stroke and was unable to hold down water, lift her head, or walk for more than two steps before falling. After years of treatment for ailments including hyperthyroidism, asthma and arthritis, I made the very difficult decision to stop subjecting my cat to invasive and uncomfortable medical tests and treatments as her condition had ceased to improve or even stabilize. Shortly after she turned nineteen, I sought second opinions on her medical condition and was advised that continuing such treatment seemed to be done more for my own sake, as she was declining in health and quality of life in spite of treatment. more

Dr. Bates is only concerned about money and is extremely rude and down right mean. I found a kitten in the street who had an upper respiratory infection and eye infection, I brought her there 2x's and spent $400. I asked how much procedures would cost before they were performed she would leave the room with the kitten and come back with everything done and I was presented with a bill. The eye infection was serious and the kitten needed to be seen in 3 days and there were no available appointments and I was forced to go elsewhere. When I returned with the kitten she needed surgery, when I inquired about cost Dr. Bates became nasty and defensive, she then returned to tell me it would cost $800 and if I didn't do the procedure I would be neglecting the kitten!!! I was also told to bring the kitten to the Human Society to be killed if I couldn't afford the procedure. I then contacted the other vet who I brought my kitten to and the procedure was $575 which all costs were explained to me and I was also informed of Care credit which allows me to pay for the surgery without the full cost upfront!!! Moral of the story Dr. Bates is supposed to be so concerned with animals wanted to over charge me for a procedure I couldn't afford and her option was have the kitten be KILLED....my kitten is very happy and healthy no thanks to Dr. Bates or Middletown Animal Clinic!!!!!!! more

EXCELLENT PET CARE 6/23/2011

I am the owner of 7 dogs and would never go anywhere else but to Middletown Animal Clinic for my pets care. Dr. Earle is an excellent veterinarian. He has cared for my dogs from puppy to adulthood. He is extremely knowledgeable, and does not waste your time and money with non-essential testing like other vets do. Dr. Earle has cared for my dogs whether it be a scraped paw or a severe car accident trauma. Every visit from me with my dogs is met with compassion and expertise by the entire staff. Dr. Bates is also very knowledgeable and cares for my dogs with compassion. My dogs love the staff which makes bringing them to the vet much easier. I recommend Middletown Animal Clinic to all my friends and they have thanked me for it. They too feel that their animals are in good hands. more

Poor Customer Service and Rude 5/14/2011

After 10 years of going to Middletown Animal Clinic, my experience this morning was horrible. Over the last 6 months I've spend in excess of $700 to determine my pet's medical problem After a phone discuss with Dr. Bates, I was advised of numerous issues and possibly surgery during my drive home from work. After researching Spike's condition on line, I have a few questions to address, needed to pick up a prescription and special diet food. Went to the Clinic this morning without an appointment. Sat for 45 minutes patiently while other customers were being seen. Was advised to enter the examining room to speak with the doctor. Then, an assistant came in and stated that the Drs. were very busy, I didn't have an appointment, and they couldn't see me now. I was appalled, refused to leave until a Vet addressed my 4 questions (all of a 10 minute discussion). Instead, Dr. Earle (what an ass) walked in a basically told me to leave the room and no one could see me without an appointment. Nothing worse then spending your money for POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! more

I thought it was just me!! 7/14/2010

the front desk staff is very nasty- never make eye contact - more interested in talking to each other- except when collecting money!! the person who made the positive comment must be one of hte doctors staff, because i have never ever heard anyone else ever say nice things about this place!!! try any other place than this vet!!! Pros: convient Cons: everything else more
