Wow! What a great experience we had with our family from Kansas and all around Portland and we owe a great bit of that good time to your service! \r \r Chef John and his crew where just so impressive, they work together so well. And the food what can I say, you could cut the steak with a fork, it was just like butter. We chose the heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad, and it was beautiful and tasty, and the fresh fruit and paplova(sp?) dessert which was wonderful!!!\r \r I would give him 6 stars for presentation. The whole experience was perfect and I look forward to working with him in the future. If you are still looking for a great chef then stop looking further, you will not be disappointed with Chef John, everything was wonderful. Chef John Paulk was a life-saver! We were hosting a group of 25 at my boss' house and our original plans for catering fell through (rather, the original plan was scrapped as we wanted something more upscale). We needed someone to do it all - provide plateware, napkins, serving trays, and the food of course. I called Mezzaluna on a Friday to see if he was available on Tuesday (only 3 days away!) for an Hors d?Oeuvres Party. I knew it was last minute, but he was able to pull a team together for us. \r \r The food was amazing! Expertly prepared, the palette of flavors experienced were perfect. The bartender was engaging and the rest of the staff were so professional. It was such a unique experience for the chef to come to the house and cook. It definitely was a success with the party attendees. My boss said that her kitchen was cleaner after they left than it was when they arrived! She also was sad for her kitchen because it will never experience that kind of love and good cooking again - or at least until we hire Mezzaluna again!\r I would highy recommend Mezzaluna to anyone looking for a unique experience that your guests will continue to talk about. If you ever wanted to know what it might be like as Queen just hire Chef John and his staff into your home for the evening. From preparing you a cocktail while you are getting ready for your party, to having them open the door to the arrival of your first guest, to the sitdown, out of this world dinner. I hired Chef John to do a small family dinner and it was such a great experience. He showed up at noon for a party starting at 6 to prepare such a great meal for all of us. The steak was to die for and the hors d'oeuvres were fabulous (especially the coconut shrimp)! I knew from the first phone call that I wanted Chef John to do the event. He was willing to customize the menu just for us, even giving me a list of special desserts not even offered to feed our love for chocolate. Chef John and his staff were great. They were so polite and payed such great attention to detail. The bartender was so on top of things that I don't think anyone was without a drink at anytime. They all were like part of our family and I could not have had so much fun without any of them. This is the second time we?ve hired Chef John to cook for us, and he does an exceptional job. Recently, he created a delicious four course meal for our anniversary. The meal?absolutely one of the best I?ve ever had! He and his staff are fun to work with and extremely professional. Chef John has the experience to know how to make a party work. I am very busy with work, but was throwing a cocktail party at my house for friends and family. I wanted someone who would be able to make things work, and Chef John knew what I needed above and beyond what even I thought I needed as far as table and place setting rental, making sure things flowed in layout and bar setup. He has supernice helpers and bartenders he works with. Everything perfectly prepared and presented, and at the end of the day, everything was clean and tidy in my house and I even had leftovers wrapped up in the fridge. He was a pleasure to work with, and I would definitely use his services again! more

Mezzaluna created a beautiful, elegant, and intimate cocktail party for my fiance, our guests, and I the evening before our wedding day. Chef John created a delicious Mai Tai cocktail and the staff served several incredible hors d'oeuvres outside on the patio followed by a fantastic chipotle chili-rubbed flank steak salad with sugared pecans, grilled peaches, cambazola cheese and a cilantro-lime vinaigrette. Dessert was individual kiwi panna cotta served in little glass tubes along with chocolate-dipped strawberries injected with rose-scented vodka. Incredible! We ended the evening tasting some locally produced loganberry and pear liqueurs the Chef picked up for us to sample. I can't stress enough how well Mezzaluna treated us. Their staff and service is over-the-top top notch and the food was so worth the price. more

I recently hired Mezzaluna to cater our party celebrating my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. I went over budget a little in order to select them - but I could tell from our conversations that they would create an event befitting the specialness of the occasion. It was a very small, intimate gathering but at no time did I feel unimportant to Chef John and his wonderful team. They arrived promptly and left the kitchen spotless. They coordinated with the rental company, accommodated special dietary needs, and cheerfully incorporated our theme into their dishes. The food was unsurpassed - the coconut-crusted shrimp lollypop appetizers were so heavenly that I would have been satisfied only eating those! Best of all, my loving parents were simply blown away by all the attention to detail. It was an evening full of love and happy tears that I know we will talk about for years to come. I always have Mezzaluna send my business gifts. They are distinctive and delicious - like the orange cranberry cathedral cakes I had delivered for Christmas. They give such a personal touch, and help me differentiate my business from other companies who send standard thank yous. The packaging is gorgeous, and every detail is pristine. Mezzaluna's fantastic team of chefs, servers, and bartenders (cute guys I might add) catered our recent party and I must say that they certainly lived up to their reputation of excellence. They arrived exactly on time and filled our home with delicious smells. The staff was very professional and friendly. I really didn't have to lift a finger all day--they did it all. The food was displayed beautifully on Chef John's antique sterling silver and my guests commented on how fantastic everything tasted. I've used several caterers in the past, but will only use Mezzaluna for my parties and client events. After my party, I even received a handwritten note from Chef John thanking me for my business--that's unheard of in today's climate of emails and thankless companies. We found Chef John through Citysearch in a last minute panic last fall, 2 short months prior to our holiday party. What first impressed us was his website, menus and well thought out presentation of foods and what to expect, a complete package! After speaking with Chef John, we felt comfident that his team would be exactly what we were looking for. \r When they arrived at our home the morning of our party for a day of cooking, their professionalism and ease in someone else's kitchen was amazing! I found myself more than a few times being pulled to the kitchen from the fantastic aromas and just watching the Mezzaluna process at work! The presentation of the meal and the table's they arranged were very inviting and appealing. Next to creating amazing food (as Chef John does), the most important skill a Culinarian should have is professionalism; a skill which Chef John exceeds at. When planning my most recent event, Chef John was with me every step of the way. From returning every phone call, planning out the menu, offering to pick up additional supplies, to even assisting with my floral arrangements, Chef John is a miracle worker of the field. He always finds the most incredible fresh produce, the highest quality ingredients and inserts his special creative spin on dishes you think you've had already. His presentation for parties and dinners goes beyond anything you will see in Fine Living as far as beauty and sophistication.
