Recently I had the pleasure of attending a dinner party catered by John Paulk and his staff at Mezzaluna. His food was the most amazing that I have ever tasted. The combinations of herbs,cheeses and fruit were delightful. Each course was not only delicious, it was a beautiful work of art. Mr. Paulk and his staff were very friendly and relaxing to be around. They were very professional and attended to every detail. I look forward to when I can eat a Mezzaluna meal again! more

Recently my husband and I had our third child. As a gift from out of town family members, they hired John Paulk as a personal chef to deliver 2 weeks worth of meals to our home. The whole experience was great! John was incredibly friendly and more than willing to be flexible about when our meals were delivered. We were able to pick all of our meals(main dishes and sides) and they were ALL delicious! When John dropped off the meals he went over how to cook each item and how long the food would last in the refrigerator. There was a ton of food! Mezzaluna Executive Chef John Paulk and his staff went out of their way to create a fantastic and creative Carribean feast for a Carribean themed party we hosted for thirty at our home. From the beginning John and his staff were enthusiastic about the event and wonderful to work with. All of our guests loved the food - hits included seared macadamia crusted tuna on sliced cucumbers and mini Jamaican burgers. Our home was left in perfect condition following the party - it's always great to entertain without any mess or clean-up! We've worked with many caterers and restaurants - Mezzaluna takes it to another level. Suffice it to say Mezzaluna comes highly recommended. If you need an additional guest at your event with Mezzaluna catering, please count me in! more

5 stars only simply does not do Chef John Paulk and his incredible staff justice. John and his team were available on relatively short notice to cater a cocktail and appetizer party at my loft in the Pearl last week. The floor plan had it's challenges but John's plan for space utilization was ideal and enhanced the tone of conviviality of the party. Everyone is still raving about the the quality and variety of the abundant spread and could not have been more pleased with our ""specialty"" cocktails for the night, the bartending service and food service. John is creative, attentive to every detail, open minded, flexible, easy to work with, totally professional and lots of fun. I truly was a guest at my own party and will never do another get together - casual or formal - without John at my side. Pros: Menu variety and quality, specialty drinks, attitude! I have hosted and organized more business events than I can count and Mezzaluna is the most impressive caterer I have worked with, they are Portland's top notch caterering service without a doubt. Recently I hosted an Architects Dinner and, for the first time, used Mezzaluna. Not only was the staff on time, but they were early! They came in prepared, organized and very professional. The set up was not only seamless but beautiful! The food...the food was spectacular not only in taste but in presentation, all of my guests were so amazed and delighted with the high quality of the food. From beginning to end, the team at Mezzaluna was a joy to work with. I look forward to the next opportunity to work with the team at Mezzaluna. Our company held a cocktail reception for 100 customers, and the food and service provided by Mezzaluna, Chef John, and staff was incredible. Chef John made suggestions about traffic flow through our available space to make sure we didn't have bottlenecks; he and his staff were on time and organized, everyone knew what to do and when to do it; the service was never intrusive, but servers were always there when you needed something; and the food!\r \r The beef tenderloin crostini with wasabi aioli was delicious (one of the favorites of nearly everyone); the prosciutto and gruyere spiraled in puff pastry was a savory delight; the pear and carmelized onion strudel was a perfect balance, not too sweet or too oniony; but the highlight of the evening was the chicken skewers with spicy green curry cream - except for a couple persons who don't like even a little bit of spice to their food, I only heard raves about it.\r \r We also had an open bar, serving beer, local wines, and selected drinks, including Mezzaluna's signature Lemon Drop, which was very tasty. The bartenders knew their business, and improvised some drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, working with the ingredients they had on hand.\r \r The clean-up and move-out was quick, thorough, and unobtrusive. When we had a problem with the building freight elevator for the move-out, John worked with me to solve it so that it did not impact the event for the guests.\r \r I would not hesitate to recommend Mezzaluna, and indeed, we have already asked them to cater another event for us. I know nothing about the Portland area. All I knew was that I needed to find a fabulous caterer for a Colorado College event in Portland. Mezzaluna - Chef John was one out of three that I chose to do research on, and I found that Mezzaluna had zero negative remarks on the web and I also loved the time he put into his website. From day one - John took over. He met every expectation and more! I did not have the privilege of meeting Chef John and his wonderful staff nor did I have the privilege of tasting the food prepared for this event. Delicious food, nice staff and they left me with a cleaner kitchen than when they arrived. \r \r I recommend the beef tenderloin bruschetta thing and would have liked to try the tomatoa and mozzarella on skewers but they disappeared too fast. \r \r John and his staff are professional, thoughtful and polite. This was our second year to use Chef John and his staff for our annual WhiteHouse Collection Holiday party and I can honestly say that it will not be our last! In fact, we have begun to book Mezzaluna Fine Catering one year in advance for our company party. Chef John and Mezzaluna are consistently incredible. Their food, the service, the professional mannerisms, their organizational skills, the interaction with other guests, the clean-up and presentations, the management of their time and their detail in all of the above ~ stands way above any other catering service we have ever used and we have used many! One of the best things for me would have to be that once this busy day arrives, I am able to completely relax knowing that Mezzaluna ""takes over our home and the party"" and allows us to be relaxed and refreshed when the guests start arriving. We very much appreciate all that Mezzaluna has to offer and look forward to a very long term relationship with them. One testament to John Paulk as the owner of Mezzaluna would have to be that many of the staff members from last year were with him again this year. Okay, if you need to have one great party in your lifetime it needs to include John Paulk of Mezzaluna. I crave his blue cheese stuffed figs he served at my company party three years ago, he has been there every year since. He has given me great advise on how to be a great host. He has fun servers, and he mingles with the group which sends everyone home with a entranced belly and a permanent smile on their face. I can't say enough about this quality man who enables this exceptional catering squad. His newsletter inspires me. Mezzaluna is worth every minute you don't have to spend planning, and the confidence you have at the end of the night is immeasurable. Book him you will be so so happy. Thank You Chef John and the exceptional Mezzaluna Staff. Mezzaluna catered our 10th annual Holiday Event for 350 people. It was over the top. Everyone was so pleased with the delicious and creative appetizers. The service and the food were extraordinary. Chef John and his staff create such a friendly and fun atmosphere. I had told John that we were worried about running out of food for the event, he made sure that we did not. Also the space we had for John to work out of was minimal at best. We did not have to worry about a thing, John took care of every detail, all we had to do was watch our guests have a wonderful time. We can't wait to plan the next event with Mezzaluna and Chef John! I rec'd a gift certificate for Mezzaluna's personal chef service -- I was able to take advantage of this last Friday and man! It was absolutely delicious ...the food was prepared perfectly -- spices just right (not overdone) was nice to have beautiful food delivered to my home and we were able to enjoy a very nice in with great food. What a treat to see Chef John woo the crowd at the Northwest Women's Show last weekend. I have worked with many amateur and professional chefs and Chef John tops the list. He prepared a Thai Flank Steak Salad, using many common ingridients that resulted in an uncommon and delicicious dish. I have already recommended him to friends for Holiday parties and cant wait to work with him again myself. Chef John Paulk and his team are amazing! I was looking for a caterer to not only create beautiful food but to also help plan the event. My only thought was it should reflect a tasting of France. He created an awsome 8 course tasting menu that was to die for. Everything was plated brilliantly! He and his staff took great care to decorate the space transporting us all to Provence. If I didn't know better I would of thought I was sitting at a chateau in Gourdes. I can't recommend him more. I will always use Chef John and Mezzaluna for all of my future events. Michelle V.
