Swank, Upbeat Steakhouse 10/19/2003

Mastro's gives a chichi vibe throughout the entire restaurant. Ambience was awesome; plush chairs and white linen adorned the dining room while a swank bar and live band decked the upstairs lounge. Martinis and shrimp cocktail appetizer embellished with dry ice provide for impressive entertainment, as the presentation is enough to wow even the most skeptical of gimmic-laden restaurants. Twin lobsters were beautifully butterflied and the 28oz. prime rib is enough for 2. Creamed corn was a tad heavy, as there was more cream than there was corn. Try an earlier dinner (~6pm.), as it tends to get really crowded on Fri. and Sat. nights. Dinner for 2 w/drinks can reach $200 quite easily. Overall, one of the better steakhouses in LA. This could and in my humble opinion, is the greatest steakhouse in the country. They have an incredible rub the add to each side of the steaka dn only use prime meat. The prime rib is incredible and every dish on the menu is large enough to be shared. The sides, creamed spinich and creamed corn is uniquely done and each side is large enough for the table to try. The oyster appetisers are large, fresh and unbelievable wonderful. If you can get them to make Oysters Rockafeller for you, you will be a permanent patron of the elegant place. This place rocks and is well worth the price! If you want a more upbeat atmosphere, definitely request to sit upstairs, and if you are looking for a quiet evening sit dowstairs. The steaks could not have been better, and I would say it blows Ruth Chris and Morton's out of the water. For a truly spectacular appetizer, order the shrimp cocktail over dry ice- tastes great and awesome presentation. An exceptional dining expereince. Wow...this was realy great! 2/8/2003

Friends have been raving about Mastros and tonight we finally went to experience the restaurant oursleves. It was even better than we were told it would be. The steaks were excellent, the blue cheese dressing was wondeful and the wine and Martinis were superb! We had a very friendly waiter and he was most helpful with the menu items. All in all it was a great culinary experience an we are ansious to visit this restaurant again very soon. Mastros is on a par with Ruth Chris, Nick and Steff's and Monty's Steakhouses...in fact, it is better than all three!!!!!!! Pros: Great Steaks, Generous drinks, Excellent service Cons: Noisy more
