Editorial review from Citysearch 10/17/2013

I would not recommend ordering a wedding dress from Mary Kay, because it was very difficult and stressful for me to get my dress from them. To their credit, I did have a great in-store experience. They do have a lot of beautiful dresses in stock, and the salesperson who assisted me was very helpful. I ordered my dress on Feb. 9th and was told that it would be in by the end of July (my wedding was on October 12th). In March, I received a letter saying that they had merged with Wedding Chapel Brides and were moving to a new location, but that my dress order would not be impacted by the merger.\r \r By August 1st, I had not heard anything from Mary Kay, so I called to ask about the status of my dress. They told me that my dress was delayed two weeks. On August 12th, I called again. Anne (the manager) returned the call saying that she had just got off the phone with Moonlight Bridal (the manufacturer), and that the dress would be in the following week, the week of August 19-23rd. \r \r We did not hear anything the next week, so we called again on August 21st, and was told that Anne would call us back. After playing phone tag, we finally got Mary Kay on the phone. She assured us that the dress had already shipped from California and would arrive within five business days. She said it was shipping via UPS but would not give us the tracking number. \r \r So we waited again. By the end of the following week, August 30th, there was still no dress. We waited a few more days to give them the benefit of the doubt that they had actually shipped the dress like they said (since it was a long holiday weekend). On September 5th, we showed up at the new bridal salon location in Crystal. Mary Kay was at the desk, and we explained how frustrated and upset we were that they told us the dress had shipped, when in actuality it had not. We asked for our deposit back, which she said she would not give to us because it was nonrefundable. After we made a scene in front of the other brides in the salon, she assured us that she had already overnighted the dress from California and it would be there the next day. She gave me a UPS tracking number and said to call back the next day.\r \r Well, about an hour later she called me to say that was not the ""correct"" tracking number and gave me a different one. Sure enough, that number was a real tracking number (and the first one she gave me clearly was not, since she did not rush ship the dress until after I came to the salon). But, the dress did arrive the next day.\r \r When I got to the bridal salon to pick up the dress on September 7th, Mary Kay said that I should be grateful that they covered the $100 rush shipping fee, and that I should write them a good online review since they were so nice about that. Well, I feel bad for all of the brides that had dresses in my same order who didn't complain as loudly as I did, because who knows when they actually got their dresses. Luckily, I found a wonderful tailor who was able to do rush alterations for me so that I could have the dress in my hands two weeks before the wedding on October 12th. This tailor told me that she used to work for Mary Kay, and that she was chronically late in paying her vendors and regularly gave brides their dresses only days before the wedding.\r \r In the end, I had a beautiful wedding dress that I was very happy with. But I did not appreciate the weeks and weeks of stress I had to endure until I could finally get the dress. I don't normally write online reviews, but I really want to help other brides avoid this terrible experience. If you want to buy a dress from Mary Kay, Wedding Chapel Brides, or the Bridal Store, I recommend that you buy off the rack. more

This is hands down the best bridal shop. The customer service is amazing, the selection is outstanding and the staff is energetic. I found my dream dress at Mary Kay's Bridal and they really have made the shopping experience amazing. I highly encourage people to stop by there. From the dress shopping to the alterations they really made me feel like a princess. I give them 5 out of 5 stars! more

Dont go there 4/25/2012

I found my dress at Mary Kay in June of last year almost a year ago and they said the dress would be in around Nov/Early December. I figured this would be fine because my wedding was not until the end of April. We also rented our tuxes and bought our bridesmaids dresses from there. My dress did not come in until early March (only about 6 weeks before the wedding) which is stress enough by itself because you want to make sure the accessories match and look good. We are having an out of town wedding and requested the tuxes come in as early as possible to leave time for fittings. Well....it is the Wednesday before the wedding the the groom's tux has not come in yet. I feel like there is something they were not telling me about the dress and we are very concerned about the tux fitting properly. For the amount of time and money we spent at this store, you would expect some better customer service. In fact, I don't think they have apologized once for all the waiting and hoping we have been through. more

Wonderful Store...Wonderful People :) 1/28/2011

I have to admit...I was nervous going to Mary Kay Bridal based on some of the reviews I read. However, they had the dress I had fallen in love with online, and I decided to give it a go. I am so thankful that I went to Mary Kay Bridal. Right away when I walked into the door, we were greeted by Ashley. She was friendly, helpful, energetic, everything you would expect from the staff. I tried on my first dress (the dress I had fallen in love with), and knew immediately it was the one. Even though we all knew it was the dress, they were very willing to let me try on all the dresses I wanted to get the true ""wedding dress shopping"" experience. I never felt any pressure to purchase the dress which made it that much easier to say ""YES"" to the dress. I had a wonderful day at Mary Kay Bridal. I will be going back the beginning of March to shop for bridesmaids dresses. I am so excited! more

Magical Store 10/18/2010

I am the bride in the review that Renie09 made and would like to get the facts straight since Renie09 seems to have a lot to say for a person who has never been in Mary Kay?s store. First off I picked the place because it is a warm welcoming atmosphere, and the staff immediately make you feel comfortable; You can shop without an appointment, the staff doesn?t follow you around but makes sure you have someone to help you if you need it, and their knowledge and expertise ease the worries of a bride at a very stressful time. more

Fantastic Shop! What are you talking about Renie09? 10/18/2010

This is a looong time and overdue review about this FANTASTIC Wedding Shop!!! We just happened to walk into this small, intimate shop in Richfield. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and how they just let you browse on your own without ""hovering"" over you. I am more

Very accomidating and understanding 7/14/2010

i started looking at dresses in march for my august wedding we knew it was a short notice so we wanted to find something and alter it. I walked into the shop with my mom and was greeted immediately looked around tried a few dresses on and left i went to davids bridal and was not impressed i wanted to go back to mary kay and let them actually do their job. when we went back Ashley greeted me and helped me with such urgency she wasnt pressing me for anything. I found the dress i wanted and described to her HORRIBLE didnt work for my petite short body she suggested another PERFECTION!!!! it was beautiful well 1 month later i found out i was pregnant omg i was not excited about buying a new dress. They are now currently working with me to make my dress perfect for my big day they have been nothing but wonderful to me and they are bending over backwards for me mary kay is even ensureing she is there so it is perfect!! Pros: switching to my needs Cons: ummmm none more

Owner and Employess mix up 5/3/2010

Found and loved my dress that I found in the shop. The employess were nice and helped but the owner was very werid. I came in one day to try on the dress and talked with the talior and loved her opions amd options on what we were going to do witht the dress, but couldn't remember her name when I returned. The next day I was explaining the sales lady what the taloir looked like bc their was 3 taliors. The owner comes over and starts to talk to me and tells me that she remembered me and that we agreeed on something else. I told her no and that I never met her. She cont to push me tell me what I agreed on with the talior was not right. more

Not impressed 4/22/2010

I have to say I'm not impressed! I am a bridesmaid to a friend who picked out a dress and told all of us to go get fitted - I got fitted and Bes, the girl who measured me said ""If you're dress should have to get altered, it will be $30-40"". Ok I can handle that. So when my dress came in and my alterations included taking in the breasts and hemming the dress, the cost was $96! Totally threw me off. Pros: No wait Cons: service more

Ok customer service 1/20/2010

I went to this store because they were where my friend and sister both got their gowns. So I thought I would give them a shot. The first time I called to see if I needed an appointment, I spoke with Mary Kay herself. I was polite and got the answer I needed, before hanging up she asked when my wedding was. I told her the end of September, and she flipped out. That's really close, you should have ordered your dress WAY before now. Um, it's over 9 months away. When I was in the store they told me it wasn't a problem so why was she freaking out? I ended up calling again for some clarification on a few things, and got Mary Kay again, she asked me again when my wedding was, and I told her, and I got the same response- flipping out. Then she put me on hold to go get my file, and someone else picked up and helped me. They don't take appointments except on Sundays for a charge of $25.00. So show up early otherwise you'll wait! They ""don't allow"" pictures to be taken unless the dress has been purchased. Some of the staff allow pictures, some don't. I was able to find a few dresses I liked, the price tag said $875 dollars. No one ever mentioned a hollow to hem measurement until the 2nd time I was there to make my final decision. One gal told me it was 10% of the dress, okay I can deal with that. On the phone later that day another woman told me it was $150 for the hollow to hem measurement! There's a big difference there. When I asked what the reason it was for no one would explain what it was, and why that measurement was needed. I had to call back 3 times, finally I spoke with Ashley the owners daughter who was very nice and explained everything. I still won't order my dress here, from the horror stories I've heard from others. Their store is a little dirty and it seemed like people were just hanging out on the couches watching other women try on dresses. Including some men. The store needs a little bit of a makeover, even some slip covers for the chairs and couches would be nice, because the dirt on them is obvious. And Mary Kay needs to retire and pass the store on to Ashley, she is the only one who really knows what she is doing there and treats people nicely! Pros: Nice selection of dresses, they don't work on commission Cons: service, dirty store, don't allow pictures more

Extremely Unprofessional 12/26/2009

I recently visited Mary Kay's and was highly disappointed. We did find nice bridesmaids' dresses at reasonable prices. However, I was treated quite poorly by one particular member of the sales staff. I am a fairly petite woman (size 2-4 street clothes). My measurements and body parts were discussed loudly and in disparaging terms at the counter and fitting area. I am very surprised at the lack of tact. I cannot understand why women would want to support a business that critiques a slender woman for not being model thin. I will definitely tell everyone I know not to shop there. Pros: somewhat nice selection Cons: poor customer service, unprofessional more

I love this place! 10/13/2009

I'm not sure why this place has such bad reviews. I worked with Asia and Ashley who were both awesome. If people thought Ashley was snotty, she was either having a bad day or they were just intimidated by the fact that she is goooooooorgeous. Anyway -- they were really helpful but weren't too in your face. They allow you to have your family help dress you instead of being all up in your naked self. I'm a size 16 so I appreciated that they didn't make me feel like a lardo when I was trying on the dresses there. I ordered a Demetrios gown and they were very clear that these dresses can take a long time, and even called me after the dress was ordered to tell me when my ship date was. They are very knowledgeable. I did a sunday showing which was great. You don't have to hang out in front of other brides and they offer you coffee/tea etc while you browse and champagne/oj/mimosas if you find a dress. You get 10% off everything you buy during a Sunday showing (anything in the store). I'll repost after I actually get my dress (I ordered it this weekend and am supposed to have a ship date of late April), but I anticipate continuing to be very happy with Mary's Bridal. Pros: Friendly staff, Sunday showings Cons: I live no where near here! :) more

Excellent Place! 9/25/2009

This place is great, despite what so many people seem to post here. I have had nothing but excellent service every time I have gone in, and a great attitude from all their staff. I worked with Ashley initially when I picked out my dress, who was WONDERFUL! She was so sweet and genuinely excited for me. I had to go just with my mom to look at dresses bc none of my friends could come, and she even did up my hair a little so we could see the general idea of how that would look with the dresses. She was SO sweet and helpful and patient. NEVER did I feel rushed or pressured. I made an appointment to go in on a sunday for a private showing, which was so great. We even got to have some champagne and a toast once I found my dress! Their selection was excellent. I will recommend them again and again to anyone. I think people are eager to throw out their two cents when they are unhappy. Misery loves company. I hope most people will just go check out the shop for themselves. I really loved it and found it to be one of the best places in the Twin Cities that I had gone to, and I went to a lot of places! Check them out! Pros: Great Service, pleasant atmosphere, great selection Cons: It was a tad far for me more

Terribly Disappointed 8/1/2009

Mary Kay's daughter Ashley is the one that helped me. She was really nice..in fact the only nice one in the whole store. She made me feel so special and helped me feel that it was my special day. She was so excited for me while trying on the dresses and found the perfect one. Unfortunately it was way out of my budget but she of course talked me into it. So I bought this $1,300 dress. Still makes me sick knowing that I spent so much money. However I was told that the dress would be in Middle to Late June. The dress finally arrived LAST WEEK. My wedding is next weekend. Not only that but I paid the extra 150 to measure hollow to hem. Ashley told me that this dress is not the type that you want to get altered later and encouraged me to pay the 150 to get the length right the first time. The dress has a lace overlay and she explained that it would never look the same if we had to alter it. WELL... when I finally got to try my dress on it was at least 3 inches too long! They measured and inch an half shoe and it was far to long even when I tried a 3 inch heel.. Why did I pay the extra 150 if they didn't get it right the first time?! Well they altered it and I tried it on again and it looked fine from what I could tell but it still wasn't done she just pinned it and it needed to be altered more.. I finally picked it up today and they handed it to me in a garbage bag...Not the bag it came in but a long plastic bag. They told me they keep the nice zip up bags for storage at the store. In the end i paid 1400 for the dress and I had to take it out in a garbage bag.. Pathetic! I encourage you to not go there. They give you the run around. As soon as you hand over your money they no longer care about you. more

TERRIBLE PLACE... 6/5/2009

For my friends wedding we got our dresses from here. We all got measured and ordered the dresses in November. The second week of May is when we FINALLY got the dresses. When I was measured I was told that I would either have to loose 10 lbs or get the next size up, which was $100 more. I said that I would just loose the 10 lbs. When I finally got my dress I had actually gained some weight, and the dress was WAY to big... come to find out that every single one of the brides maids dresses were way to big, we all could have gone down at least 2 sizes. Because we got the dresses so late we all had to pay extra to get the dresses altered. Which we did not do at Mary Kay's because we did not want give them the extra money. We all ended up spending almost as much on the alterations as on the dresses. This place is terrible. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Cons: poor service.. more

Helped to make everything right... 5/27/2009

After a few snafus, the whole staff at Mary Kay extended exceptional customer service and went out of their way to make everything right...I appreciate all they did for me on my big day. more

please read this review first before you buy.... 12/30/2008

I have purchased two dresses from Mary kay's bridal. I have sent over 15 people for weddings and prom to purchase a dress or tux for prom or for weddings. If you are getting married, you should order your dress and try on dresses the moment your engaged. if you don't, then that's when you run into problems. Most bridal stores have dresses you can try on HOWEVER you would have to order it. Most dresses are made overseas!!!! if the manufactor is delayed it is not the owner of the business fault. you cannot pull a dress out of a hat if you don't have it. so be smart and not a bridezilla. have your stuff in order. I don't know mary kay personally, but she is a nice lady. A lot nicer than I can say about other bridal stores... so on that note. if you wait to the last minute to order dresses, you are at risk of a delay. sorry if this sounds harsh. I never had a problem nor my friends ..so she get five stars from me!!!! Pros: friendly staff, helpful willing to listen to your needs. Cons: will hang up on customers when customers become rude and nasty. more

Highly Recommend!!! 12/18/2008

I would highly recommend Mary Kay's Bridal!! I was referred to them from my fiance's cousin and she loved them as well! As soon as I walked in someone came over to help me start putting wedding gowns in a room for me to try on. They had a great selection to choose from! The store itself isn't too pretty, but the dresses are what is important. I went on a Saturday in July and Kathy was helping me. She was very friendly and helpful and made me feel like I was the only person in the store at the time! She never rushed me, let me take my time. Even let me just stand there in the dress FOREVER! :) Everyone in the store was very nice and kept commenting on the dresses I had been trying on and giving their in put. I found ""The Dress"" and ordered it a couple days later. When we called Kathy had remembered us and made us feel like we were the only ones she saw that day even though the store was pretty packed. I went home looked up their store read these reviews and became HORRIFIED! I was convinced my dress wasn't going to come in on time etc.. They said my dress would be in by March I got my dress the first week in December! It took only about 4 months! Myself and my seven bridesmaids headed back their to find their dresses. Again, right when we entered someone greeted us and helped us find dresses. Anything we needed they could help with, never making us feel like we were an inconvenience. We found the girls' dresses that night. All the workers stayed late that night as well helping everyone get things sized and figured out. They were so kind and helpful. We thought for sure the SEVEN dresses would take a while.. I got them the second week in Decemeber!! Took only 2 1/2 months. We had some stresses since one of the girls' lives out of state so there were TONS of back and forth phone calls and evertime they were cheery and ready to help and make things less stressful. We are so excited! WONDERFUL place and people! Highly Recommend them!!!!! Pros: Selection, Service, Promptness Cons: Building, Looks from the outside more

Worst service ever!!! Never go here and tell your friends 11/24/2008

Mary Kay bridal is the worst place ever. i went to look at dresses and all I got was horrible service. My friend personally knows Mary Kay and she is a snob and rude. i am surprised they are still in business. I only went there because she knows my friend. The store is a dump and the staff especially Ashley her daughter is a snob. They act like they didn't have patience for me and acted like every time i asked a question i was bothering them,,,,,,,do not go here..its not worth it. more
