Excellent Pet Store 7/4/2014

Being a professional dog trainer, I am very particular where I shop for dog food and supplies. I couldn’t be more pleased with the service and quality of products offered by Mark’s Ark. Brent and Steve, especially, are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They are very thorough in explaining everything I need to take care of Sampson, my American Bulldog. I also have an aquarium. I find that Mark’s Ark fish are better and healthier than those at any other pet stores. They also have a superior selection. As a professional, I notice that the animals they offer are always kept in clean quarters and are healthy and happy and the guys at Mark’s Ark are helpful and courteous. There really isn’t a better pet store in Utah.\r \r Marshall Tanner\r Owner, Alpha Dog Training more

One nightmare after another 5/1/2013

Nothing but nightmare after nightmare...\r \r I bought a Yorkshire Terrier from Mark's Ark in August 2012. At the time of purchase I was told the puppy had been treated for kennel cough until earlier that week. They told me he was fine. I paid $696 for the puppy and brought him home. Later that night we ended up in the Vet ER because the dog was having a hard time breathing. \r \r At the time I bought the dog, I was told I would have his AKC registration within 6 or so weeks. I called many times asking if my paperwork was in, only to be told "not yet." After several months of this, I was told I would have it by Christmas. December came and went and still nothing. I was then told there was a fire and the paperwork had to be reordered. Then I was told someone quit, and the paperwork had to be reordered. Then I was told the paperwork was mailed and it would be there within a couple days, then I was told someone quit and the paperwork had to be reordered again. It's always somethin more

wonderful 5/21/2012

This was the first time I had been to this store. i was looking for a parakeet and was very particular about the birds temperament. They referred me to Marks Ark saying that they get their birds in hand raised instead of parent raised and would definitely be more accepting to being around people. Gotta say that I went in and looked at the bird, i was even able to let my 5 year old hold him. The bird I picked up was very loving and you could tell that it was handled a lot. they payed a lot of attention to the bird because it has never once bit me and has never even tried. Blue is also very affectionate and was about 4.5 weeks old when we picked him up. I have been to many places and seen a bunch of birds that you have to tame yourself.. I like the fact that you can get an already tamed bird for $25 more

Tiered of people B****ing 4/26/2012

Okay, I am tiered of the bunk, so I made a profile on this (which I never do, ever). I love this store, I have been shopping here sense I was 16. It is cramped, yes, but the staff does a great job making sure all the bedding and animals are clean and happy, look past the smell, which isn't bad like a lot of people say (I personally think they are too damn prissy for their own good frankly), its a petstore for christ's sake get over it. Look into the encloses, always clean, always fresh. And about the kennel cough, get an animal from anywhere other than private breeders (yes even other pet stores) you dog will 90% of the time have kennel cough. Ever dog coming out of the humane society that everyone is begging people to go to gets a prescription to treat kennel cough, its like a cold, it gets everywhere. And have you ever tried to get a Giant Monkey Tree frog anywhere else? Its freaking impossible! They have an amazing selection of reptiles and fish, its staggering sometimes. And lastly I know that the good reviews on here are not from the staff, the fact that they are still in business for as long as I can remember, speaks for itself. Try them, they are awesome, and if you don't like it, then don't shop here. I am tiered of people saying ""I got a cat here and she died, and I came back a year later and bought another one."" If your cat died, it was from your own stupidity and not this store. more

A great pet store 3/2/2012

I had read some pretty bad reviews online, but thought I would try Mark's Ark out anyway. I was pleasantly surprised.\r \r I went looking for a pet chinchilla and as soon as I needed help, an employee was there. He was very knowledgable about chinchillas, which was surprising for a pet store, and very friendly.\r \r He showed me every thing I would need, gave me a discount and carried my items out to my car.\r \r I also loved the variety of pets in there, I will come back soon. more

Marks Ark Mistake 1/22/2012

We have been to Mark's ark a few times now. The smell as listed by others is horrible! We rescued our cat 3 years ago from them the staff was wonderful and we love our cat. Recently we decided to get a pet bunny we decided we wanted a black bunny. the staff member handed us a cute Netherland Dwarf bunny. I asked what gender the bunny was and after the worker checked he told me ""Its a female bunny"" we brought her home and named her Ebony. then we decided we needed an IVORY. We went back on Monday and told them we needed a white bunny to go with our black female bunny. Ivory came out of the same cage as Ebony. the worker checked and told us that we were buying another female. We have now had our bunnies for two weeks. Lastnight we found out Ebony is MALE when he started mounting Ivory. Their mistake cost us another $150 after having to buy a second cage and all the stuff for the seperate cage (NOT BOUGHT FROM MARKS ARK!!!) The workers need to be more knowledgable. I researched rabbits for two days before I went to talk to them about rabbits. I wanted to know all I could about rabbits before buying one. When I was talking with the staff member he was telling me things that tons of people online have said NOT TO DO. I am against the abuse that is going on in that store. They have cages too full and smells like they aren't cleaned the place is filthy! (at least they have a better cage for their crickets when we got our cat there were crickets boucning all over the store) they also breed (check under the fishtanks in the front of the store that is where one mother cat nurses her kittens) breeding is wrong when there are animals in shelters being put to sleep cause they have no homes HORRIBLE!!!!! more

Diseased Animals 1/5/2012

We bought a crested gecko from them at a Reptile Expo a few months ago for our kids' first pet. What a bad decision that was! We should have bought one from the more expensive booth there that was more knowledgeable and clean. No wonder the price was so much lower! \r \r First of all, the man who rung us up put our lizard in a container that I could tell had been reused because it was cloudy and dirty looking, unlike the other businesses which used clear, brand-new containers for the lizards they were selling. Secondly, the man also said we could feed the lizard babyfood, which I later found out that is not what they are supposed to eat regularly. Thank goodness we had already gleaned from the knowledge of the other booths selling crested geckos and we knew they need a special Crested Gecko Diet powder that had all the nutrients they needed. \r \r But ultimately, that didn't really help much because our little guy wouldn't eat! We could hand feed him and get him to take in a few licks, and then he'd stop and act really weird, like something was wrong. A couple months later, he ended up dying. It was really really sad. Our kids all cried.. we tried so hard to keep him alive and did everything that you are supposed to do with temperature, food, humidity. \r \r After she/he died, we found out that geckos coming from a pet store, especially if the pet store doesn't practice good hygiene (handwashing between handling animals, etc.), can already have a disease by the time you by them. We read on the internet on so many sites, gathering up info, and we think that her symptoms showed she had this one type of amoeba parasite. We could have given her a special medicine for it, but it was too late by the time we found out. \r \r This was sooo sad and as the previous reviewer said, they should be shut down because they don't take care of the animals right. You are supposed to wash your hands and use clean containers; it's just common knowledge. But these guys had to put my kids and me through such a sad experience all because they aren't taking the time to do such things, or even learn enough about the animals they sell to give proper advice to customers. more

Bought a puppy 12/28/2011

We first bought a puppy Malchi from Marks Ark for my niece and dealt with Todd he was very nice. We went back and bought a puppy for my hubby and I a Corkie and she ended up getting sick, when we contacted Todd he was very nice and concerned sent us to his Vet. Todd stood by his word and made everything right. People on here complain of the smell believe me Im sensitive to smell Marks Ark smells like a petstore. I honestly can say if you get home and within a few days your puppy gets sick, contact Todd and he will work with you. He is very caring and kind. more

2 very sick puppys 11/22/2011

this place is a damn joke. 3 weeks ago i bought an 8 week old american bulldog for $301.67. they told me that she was very healthy, WRONG she all most died from upper resportoy problems. i told them this after i took her to the vet. and all i got out of them is sorry to hear that. . so i am stuck with a big vet bill. but all that matters is that she is doing well now thank god. number two puppy my mom went and bought a 12 week old yorky from them and wow what do you know he has kennle cough. now my mom has a big vet bill. to all of us who dont like marks ark we need to get together and shut them down. these animals dont need to have these problems they should be healthy when we buy them. a six hundred dollar puppy with a large vet bill help me shut them down more

The "new" Mark's Ark is Awesome!!! 11/1/2011

I've been going to Mark's Ark for over 10 years. It is awesome. I have bought several reptiles/amphibians/fish from them and have never had a bad experience. It's a shame that many of the negative reviews on this site are years old. I have witnessed an amazing transformation over the years. The current owner is excellent and the staff (Brent, Steve) have been there a long time and are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The store is well kept and the animals appear healthy. If you have never been to Mark's Ark or haven't been there in awhile...you should go, you won't be dissappointed. more

Actions speak louder than words! 7/22/2011

ABSOLUTE PROOF of the commitment Mark's Ark and the incredible staff and Ownership have to their customers and their critters! \r Todd & the Gang are the best! \r As "Critter Junkies" we have purchaced, many small animals/reptiles/fish plus all the accessories that you must have, at Mark's Ark & the compitition over the last several decades.( Trust me I have cages, tanks, rocks , logs, etc from friends long gone, just filling my shed to the rafters.) Not to mention the ones still housing friends in my home and out.\r HOWEVER, I have never purchased any of my dogs from there or any other Pet store. UNTIL we saw a face that could not be left behind!\r Not that they haven't had many cute faces in years past BUT because of the dreaded Pet Shop DOG reputation. {{shutter}}. \r This little guy is the poster child for "Must have mutliple Dogs!" Full of energy and personality with some to spare. ?We fell in love. ? \r No one has a crystal ball and this little guy did not look or act sick. But ende more

Mark's Ark set a new Standard for pet shops! 7/21/2011

Full of energy and personality with some to spare. ?We fell in love. ? \r No one has a crystal ball and this little guy did not look or act sick. But ended up very sick very quickly. Sad truth is no matter where you buy a pet there are no guarantees.\r We called the store from the vets office with some questions. The Vet staff did not expect the co-operation & concern that Todd gave them. In fact they were a little skeptical about the sincerity. I was told he had requested I call the store after with and update. When I did, Todd could not have been more sincerely concerned and apologetic, and thrilled that the issues were treatable. ( I know huh ...thats just not your typical Pet Store!)\r I know they did not knowingly sell us a sick puppy. This illness was by no fault of theirs! \r NO pet store, shelter, breeder, individual would have given us the options of help that we were given. And they gave us several. Now understand I did not have to scream or yell or make idol threats or ask. They just went above and beyond. Assisting with the medical bills!\r Compitition beware the bar has been raise! \r more

Best Little Pet Shop! 6/16/2011

I love this store. They are always happy to see me and can answer any of my pet questions. When they don't have an answer for me or a product I need they are very willing to find it for me. My kids love it too sometime I can't get them out of there because they have so much fun looking at the spiders and lizards. And the music rocks! more

Wonderful shop. 6/16/2011

I visit this shop 2 - 4 times a week almost always for crickets. (Which, by the way, are the best around. No joke! My little gecko needs large crickets because small ones get away too easily and ""large"" crickets from anywhere but here are hardly large and always way more expensive!) The workers are always friendly and helpful. Anyone who says they don't know their stuff must be joking. I've never seen any sick or dead animals (and I stop by here ALL the time!) nor have I seen any bugs or anything. They store is a little small, but they take great care of their critters. Yeah, it tends to be a little warm and smell like dirt, but it's never dangerously so or dirty. It's always clean as a whistle! Anyone who has a problem with the smell has clearly never owned a reptile, amphibian, arachnid or insect. That's just what their tanks smell like! And this store has a great selection of those as well as a bunch of other types of animals that are always in great shape! more
