Marco Polo Ristorante & Bar

What was the name of the restaurant before it was called Marco Polo, it was Cafe Raffaello...but I'm not sure of the spelling, and are they the same owners...Thank you. more

We always stop here on the way home to Ambler from Philly. Its is a very friendly and warm atmosphere. The service is top of the line. I love the drinks and the food. It is one my favorites. more

My husband and I had possibly the worst experience possible tonight. Our server, Lauren, was not only horribly unattentive, she ignored us for most of the visit. She didn't offer the basics to our meals (parmesan or fresh pepper), didn't inform the plate was hot while handing it to my husband, didn't refill any of our drinks (we had to ask for refills after she passed our table numerous times), didn't apologize for a unpleasurable entree (my husband ordered the risotto, which was just under cooked white rice), she gave him a rather unappreciative expression, and appeared extremely judgmental towards our appearance (We were wearing normal attire for dining at Marco Polo, but my husband has a lot of tattoos and I have facial piercings). She also did these things to the couple behind us (which, did not look the least bit happy either), but was highly attentive and kind to the family across from us. The manager, Franciso, was wonderful about the situation and made the horrific experience tolerable to a slight degree. He is also the reason as to why we will be coming back in the future. Since, my husband has been coming here for three restaurant name changes. However, we will ask to not be seated in Lauren's section. I do not normally go to this extremes about horrible service, because there are levels of, well, just bad service. However, because she was treating us differently than the family of visual normality, and has been there since December, is reason enough to share this. more

Amazing service, Delicious food from first bite to last. And a Tiramisu to die for. This place in Elkins Park was an amazing experience. My kids love going there and so does my Husband and mom. Whole fish done table side is an amazing experience to watch. I would recommend the Filet topped with crabmeat or any of their delicious pasta dishes. They have the best bread in the world and everyone who waited on us and met us at the door made our experience that much better. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. A must check out if you are in the area.!!! more

Marco Polo of Elkins Park has the best veal parmesan hands down or should I say forks up. What a Great place everyone was so nice and did I mention how great the food is there! The folks there were so nice to me, my wife, Helen and the family. 5 stars all the way. Keep up the great work. I wish I had trusted the review by pandt2 before I went to this place. One of my colleague recommended this place, and it did have decent reviews until recent. I thought I may give it a try. So we went to this place for my wife's birthday - as we all liked Italian food, and had good experience at some other Italian restaurants. Initial service was OK since we walked in before the dinner rush. Bread, as described by pandt2, surely was cold. I ordered a steak, my wife ordered a spaghetti. Steak was ok. The spaghetti, was, according to the gentleman serving our table, cooked just ""right"". We, however, disagreed. The spaghetti was hard, that's not a problem. It had the taste of uncooked flour, that is not OK. Therefore, we sent it back to the kitchen, twice. Well, now it tasted like spaghetti that took a quick shower and subsequently underwent two sauna bathes in a microwave - the flavor of uncooked flour remained. Figuring we are not authentic Italian (well, obvious from our looks), the gentleman gave us a lecture on how spaghetti should be cooked, that is, the spaghetti was cooked ""right"" when he served it the first time. We are suppose to order it ""well done"" should we dislike the way it was served in the first place. After my wife tried to explain to him why she thought the spaghetti was not properly cooked, the gentleman replied "" I don't know what you are talking about."" Well, I guess we'd better find a culinary school for Italian cuisine and graduate, until then, we are not authorized to eat at their restaurant. Just went to Marco Polo with some work colleagues for happy hour, what a great place. Amazing d?cor, unbelievable food, great happy hour. I think I found my new place to go for food and drinks. I just ate at Marco Polo's for the 1st time. I was greeted with warm welcomes and smiles and the service as well as the food was excellent. I don't have any complaints, I would highly reccomend this place for people who are looking for prompt and fast service. I read previous reviews, most being positive and a few being negative. Personally, I think people should try the service and be the judge for themeslves. Pros: Service and ambience were great Cons: discrepency of prices on-line vs. the menu but not significantly more

I recently ate at Marco Polo with a few friends. Everyone from the Host and Maitre De at the front door to the waiters and bussers were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I ordered a whole bronzino, which to my delight was fileted table side so i could watch the process. Not only was the experience informative, but the fish was delicious! if you like italian food or seafood, definitely try marco polo. Pros: Great Seafood, Great Pasta more

I used to be fan of Olive Garden until I discovered Marco Polo about two years ago. For a few dollars more, you get real Italian cuisine. It is just like I remember eating over my friend's house when I was little, whose parents were from Italy(but even better since I didn't have to help cook). The service is great, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable for the excellent quality of food. The management tries to ensure that every customer is happy and satisfied with their experience. I prefer dining at the bar, where the regular customers always offer good times and good conversation. I've dined alone, with small groups and even large parties and never had a bad experience. Anyone looking for great Italian food, should definitely give Marco Polo a try. Marco Polo is no longer what is used to be. The management seems to be coy and smug. Professional appearing management belidles guests and tries to smooth things over with complimentary appetizers or menu selections. Serving staff is just a reflection of newer management. Very disappointed in what should of been an authentic experience as it used to be has become of less quality, especially for the cost. We have frequented Marco Polo throughout the holiday season hoping the time before was just an isolated incedent. It has become progressively worse since this time that we now take our business elsewhere, as do our associates. Maybe if the management focused more on food quality, presentation and service instead of the servers and mingling at the bar, what was once a quality establishment would not of lost it's quality, however it has. Marco Polo is an over rated Italian diner. The food is comparable to slop. The servers are constantly unknowledgable, rushed and frazzled. I have been going there for years and after the past 6 months have decided to discontinue my services there forever. At first I thought it was just me, but after talking to many people in the community, I have found that many feel this way. If I can offer any advice its SAVE YOUR MONEY and head to the city where you can actually have a well priced, TASTY meal. Part of the reason people actually went to Marco Polo is because of Chef Lo, but now that he has left the food, staff and decor are hard to overlook. I've been to Marco Polo many times and I've never had a problem with it. The food is above average, and the service is fantastic. I always feel more than welcomed when I walk in the door, the young man who hosts is always very plesant. He never forgets to seat me at my favorite seat (near the window )and always asks me how I am doing. It shows that he truly cares about the customers. He is definitely an asset to the restaurant. Many restaurants today lack this friendly atmosphere and I do not understand why anyone would accuse Marco Polo's waitstaff to be sloppy and unfriendly. I have been to Marco Polo a number of times and I don't find it hard to believe that the waiters acted offensively. Lately the staff has become very unprofessional. The food and menu choices are still great, but the service is lacking. I find it odd that people would defend the staff as though they know them personally or are family members of theirs. Perhaps they do know them and that's why they are so upset. The fact that someone said the waiter in question 'has a black roommate' is crazy. Anyway, I wouldn't change the food at all.
