We also spent a great deal of money for our dog to be trained. What a waste, no guarantees and the staff was rude. Buyer Beware. Pros: None

Dream Come True 4/1/2011

My friend found a pit/dobie mix on the street and adopted him.  He was covered in old bite marks and you could see in his ripped ear, eyelid, and tounge tip that he had gotten chewed up probably more than once. My friend named him Jackson. He was a mess but sweet. He got along with my dog just great but any other dog he saw on walks would send him in to a frenzy and often, whoever was walking him got badly bitten. It didn't matter if the dog was walking in front of us a half block, heading toward us on the opposite side of the street, he was terrified and wanted to attack them. No dog was too small or too young to pose a threat. When he couldn't get to them he'd go for our legs if we weren't quick enough to stay out of his range. My friend tried a personal trainer and while she made some headway, we would still run into trouble and we had no tools other than getting away from the other dog to avoid the danger and that wasn't always possible. It was stressful and scary to think what might happen if he got loose. The trainer took him to her house for week for intensive training where he ended up attacking her cat while left unsupervised and crated in her house. It was clearly time to find another option. The pound? Euthanasia? We were almost at a loss. I said, "Try Man's Best Friend. They've been around for at least 20 years. I know they deal with training protection dogs maybe they can help." We weren't too sure if MBF was anything more than a dog training factory, or a place that might train him into a fearful, cringing dog. We met with Eric, who obviously loves dogs and he answered all our questions and told us loads of stories of dogs that came in way more aggressive than Jackson. He was confident Jackson was trainable and my friend signed him up for the following month. On returning home that evening he got loose on a walk and went careening through the neighborhood and attacked two other dogs on a walk with their owner. Somehow my friend got there in time to pull him off before anyone was badly hurt but it was terrifying to think how badly things could have been. Jackson went to MBF the next morning. Malcolm was his trainer and he was able to do what we and the other trainer could not. More importantly, he's taught us how to do what he does so we can reinforce what Jackson learned in his 2-week stay at MBF. He's been out now for month and we go to the Saturday group classes every week. Today during the "down, stay" portion of class, Jackson was lying down and rolling over while surrounded by dogs! I almost started to cry, it was so wonderful to see him relaxed and enjoying himself. Walks now are great! No pulling and almost no reactions to other dogs and if there is a reaction we know how to correct it quickly and well before the frenzy sets in, thanks to Malcolm.  Jackson's so much happier now and he loves being praised when he's just walked past another dog without reacting. He actually prances a bit! And he adores Malcolm!!! Loves seeing him each week and getting attention from him.  Everyone that I've talked to at MBF adores dogs and it's such a great feeling knowing how much they care about your dog. MBF is definitely not a dog training factory. They are a wonderful, talented, and passionate group of people who probably have saved hundreds of dogs from the pound, euthanasia, abandonment, or imprisonment in a backyard. Jackson is becoming the dog we dreamed of, balanced, relaxed, and happy. We're looking forward to seeing how much he progresses in the months to come! P.S. My own dog just started his training at MBF this week! more

Malcom is the trainer to use! 3/25/2011

Our little Enzo was your typical stubborn puppy that was a major Alpha in our home. He wasn't the problem it was mom and dad that needed training. Malcolm is a genius at his job! In just a few sessions Enzo was able to sit, stay and down with no problem. Then the miracle of ALL happened in session 4 "stay day!" Malcolm helped us teach Enzo how to stay on his bed for a LONG period of time- ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! We are also attending the Saturday group class to finalize some group time for Enzo! I am a teacher for students with Neurological disorders and now with a trained dog I am able to bring Enzo to school for Pet Therapy day for the kids. Our house is so calm now! THANK YOU MALCOLM! more

MANS BESTFRIEND = MY BESTFRIEND!! 3/20/2011

OMG! CINDY.. IS THE BEST! I sent our office dog aka my dog aka Belle a 5mo. Weimaraner. To get training b/c she would jump, bite, and pull on leash.. she would do the sit, down, stay, but not consistantly... basically when she felt like listening to us. Anyway after her 2 weeks there i came to pick her up thinking, she was not going to "be good" for us...looking through the window we saw how she listened to Cindy and her not even using words just the hand signals! I was truly amazed and Cindy really walked me through the commands so that I can be more consistant w/Belle. Since being home she has amazed everyone with her manners and how well she listens to us, on the FIRST TIME command! Well most of the time like 75% of the time. Really truly pleased, and like going to the follow up meetings, that way i can get help addressing any other issues she may get. But so far just reviewing with her. ASK FOR CINDY..tell her her favorite Weimaraner Belle Sent you! :) more

Best decision! 3/15/2011

Doggie boot camp was the best decision my partner and I had due to the craziness that our lil one was creating… we couldn’t be any happier with the results that MBF brought to our lil guy! more

Malcolm saved our family! 2/26/2011

We brought our dog Skippy to Man's Best Friend because we were at the end of our rope. His disobediance was getting worse and he was getting more aggressive around other people. He is almost 9 years old and had developed very bad habits that we allowed. Malcolm said he could help and we weren't sure if he could really produce the results he spoke of in our initial meeting. Skippy is a strong willed yorkie chihuahua. After spending 2 weeks with Malcolm, Skippy is a new dog. He minds us and will actually stay on his bed when I leave the house walking someone out or getting something from the car. We're so impressed we would recommend MBF - Malcolm to any of our friends. Truly, if Skippy can be trained, your dog can too. It's an investment well worth it. more

Excellent Trainer 2/24/2011

I took my 12 month GSD to Man's Best Friend and when I got him back he was a changed dog. He now listens to every word I say, no raising my voice, I actually give him his commands at almost a whisper. Malcolm was and still is my dog's trainer and I can not possibly say enough good about him, he is an excellent trainer. My dog is actually excited on Fridays to go back for follow up training. more

Great Job! 2/10/2011

The moment we brought in our Great Dane home we knew what we were getting ourselves into… lots of chewing everywhere… So we needed to come up with a plan for a training session with a company… searching online was the best thing I’ve ever done… I found MBF and from there forward we will always be grateful for the fantastic job. more

Buster is a good boy! 2/7/2011

We were having problems with Buster jumping through windows, destroying fences, and generally ignoring all of our commands. After two weeks of training with Malcolm, Buster was a "new" dog. His behaviour and demeanor were transformed and we were enjoying this 95 lb lab/chow mix who is a sweet, loving and loyal best friend. We are beyond pleased, and thank Malcolm and everyone at MBF for all of their hard work and dedication. Buster's second home is now MBF. When we vacation he stays at MBF, and he's always a happy camper and not so eager to leave when we pick him up. We love it when our family comes over and praises his good behavior. My brother even took him out for a walk on Sunday and had no problems or worries, because our Buster is a good boy!! By the way our dog is not a pup. He is 5 years old and his training was just a few months ago so there is hope for the young and old. Thanks Malcolm and MBF Staff. more

Excellent training and knowledgeable staff 1/28/2011

Man's best friend is absolutely awesome. We have a very stubborn dog who wanted to do things his own way. We took him to man's best friend just to get an idea of what training would be like and how much it was going to cost. We ended up leaving our dog there for their two week boarding and training school. After we picked our dog up it was like he was a whole new puppy. He still had the same playful personality but he would listen and would not pull on the leash. He wasn't perfect and Malcolm showed us the things that we needed to work on with him over the next week. We have been going to man's best friend every week for a session for the last month and a half and we are more than pleased. Man's best friend trains the dog but more importantly they train you. All their training means nothing if they don't show you how to reinforce it at home and they do an excellent job of that. Malcolm will let you know if you're doing something wrong and he will ridicule you for it, but he absolutely knows what is best for your dog. I would recommend Man's Best Friend to anyone with a dog that needs training. My only minor complaint is sometimes they are so busy you have to wait a little bit to get to your appointment, but when you do it is well worth it. Every dog I own from now on will be going to Man's Best Friend more

Mans Best Friend 1/26/2011

I am very pleased with the training both I and my boxer puppy "max a million" received. 4 years ago we took our Boxer "Mater" to MBF for some minor issues that we didnt have the "know how " to fix. Mater is an amazing dog thanks to the knowledge they gave both of us. We recently added "Max" to our family and was he a handful. We enrolled him into a Puppy boot camp with another company (which was closer to my house and way cheaper). In much dissapointment, all he could do was sit and stay for a few seconds. We decided to take him to MBF to see if there was any hope for him? Malcolm did an awesome job with Max and as well with me. We have only been home a week and things are going great. He is so well behaved on or off the leash. We will continue to work with Malcolm to better the both of us. Again, Thank you Malcolm for teaching me and my "lil man". more

Man's Best Friend Training 1/9/2011

Simply put our 6 month old Min Pin was out of control. She was a beautiful, high spirited, super energetic BRAT! After failing at attempting to train her the 'Smart" way, we took her to MBF. At the interview I let go of Bailey's leash so the staff could evaluate her. She proceeded to bite the 1st trainer, bite the manager, relieve herself in the middle of the floor and find a nice corner of the manager's desk to chew on. We presented MBF with the challenge of training Bailey without changing her personality. We wanted a beautiful, high spirited, super energetic, "well-behaved" dog. We were assured that someone named Malcolm could accomplish this feat, however he was not there at the time of the initial interview. We agreed to Bailey's training dates and she was enrolled in the 14-day program. I returned to MBF to check on Bailey and meet Malcolm after Bailey had been at MBF for a few days. Malcolm was straightforward, and honest about the task at hand. After sharing a bit of his background with me, I was encouraged that he would be able to train Bailey. Upon returning from vacation, we went to MBF to pick up Bailey and was pleasantly surprised with what she learned. She is now able to follow commands and her behavior has improved drastically. She is under control for the first time in her life. We have nothing but sincere gratitude for Malcolm and the staff at MBF. Malcolm has provided us with a solid foundation from which we can build on and continue to to enjoy our beautiful, high spirited, super energetic, "well-behaved" Bailey! Way to go Malcolm!! Many Thanks, Abbott & Amelia more

An answer to our prayers! 1/5/2011

When my husband and I stumbled into Man's Best Friend, we were half a second away from having to take our shepard mix puppy to a shelter. He was out of control! He was biting, jumping, growling, food aggressive, aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. It was impossible to imagine keeping him in a home with 2 young toddlers and 2 older dogs. We were desperate! We love him, but couldn't risk the danger of him hurting one of our little ones.... Our experience with Man's Best Friend was wonderful from the start. From the people who work the front desk, to the people we randomly ran into at the facility, everyone was friendly, informative, and were clearly animal lovers. We had no hesitation in signing up Toby for the Lifetime Plan! During his two week stay, his trainer, Malcolm, called me to let me know how Toby was doing and what commands he was working on. When we went to pick Toby up, he was still a loveable puppy, but the obedience he had learned was truly incredible. Malcolm is an amazing trainer who clearly loves dogs and knows exactly what he is doing! He patiently walked us through all the commands and taught us how to continue Toby's learning process. We continue to take Toby to Man's Best Friend for weekly training with Malcolm. Toby absolutely loves Malcolm, and we cannot recommend him highly enough. The difference he has made in Toby's life and our lives as pet owners is beyond words. I would recommend Man's Best Friend to any one...friends, family, strangers! more

Bode loves Man's Best Friend! 12/28/2010

Bode was a naughty boy who we rescued from Golden Retriever Rescue. He is sweet and beautiful and just needed some help with his behavior. We took Bode to Man's Best Friend. He came home so willing to please us. We continued to return for private lessons with Eric. Every time we walked in Bode was so excited to be there. Eric obviously loves his job. I would feel comfortable leaving any of my pets in their hands! more

Thank you!!! 12/13/2010

Thank you for your patience for both me and Lexie. Your kindness, love of animals and dedication to your job creates tremendous results. It is obvious that you love what you do. Lexie has learned so much from you. We both appreciate it. more

Brilliant Terrier and Malcom 11/19/2010

We were given a wild five month old rat terrier, and sadly she was given up by her first owner because of her excited nature. She is very smart, but was out of control, to the point of bolting out the front door. I actually feared her getting hit by a car the several times she escaped from our home. We took five private lessons with Malcom, and the results are amazing! At six months old, she can obey commands, with only calm voice control rather than yelling or chasing her with treats - which I was trying with no response from her. After the first lesson with Malcom, she was walking on a lease by my side. She loves the positive affirmation from us, and her reward now is petting and praise with words. She now will sit and stay with an open front door - resisting her urge to bolt. This training will keep her out of danger and pleasant to live around! I am so glad we started training her as a young puppy, rather that correcting bad behavior that she would carry into adulthood. She is such a nice part of the family, rather than an embarrassing nuisance to us and the neighbors! Thank you, Man's Best Friend and Malcom! You are truly the real "Dog Whisperer"!! more

Thanks!!! 11/18/2010

We found Tiger at the SPCA when he was 5 months old. We trained him for a few weeks at home but knew we needed help. We came to Man’s Best Friend for a consultation and immediately knew they were a perfect fit for our family. The trainer has given us great advice and Tiger has truly become a member of our family. Tiger loves Man’s Best Friend and Doggie Day Care…. And so do we. Thank you for making Tiger so well behaved and teaching us how to make him the best dog EVER! more

Thanks Malcolm 11/14/2010

Hope, our boston terrier rescue, came to Man's Best Friend needing to fine tune some of her commands. Thanks to Malcolm and all the staff at MBF for not only loving on our dog, but training her as well. We now have a well behaved dog we can proudly take anywhere. Thanks- Steve and Chelsie more

Clem the WonderDog 11/12/2010

Clem is our resued catahoula hound dog, Thanks to Malcom and rest of the staff, he is becoming a calm and eay to handle part of the family. We were close to having to return him to the animal shelter because we were just unable to handle such a large and rowdy dog, but with help and continued training for both Clem and our family, he is now a wonderful pet and companion, still a "knucklehead" occasionally, but he is worth it and with the help of man's best friend we are looking forward to having a pet that we can enjoy and love forever. steve and melinda nix more

Great Professional Training! 10/31/2010

Man's Best Friend training really helped our dog become more of a pet. She has really benefitted from the training she received here. The trainers are highly respectable to people and their pets alike. I would highly recommend their services to anyone who needs help in training their pet, given the experience we had with them previously. more

Very Well 10/25/2010

We came here after our 9 year old beagle ran away twice and our 8 month old German shepherd destroyed everything she touched. Peter and Dom trained Buddy and Ziva very well. They showed that you can teach an older dog as well as a young one. We really appreciate their help with the dogs., We look forward to continued training in group classes. more
