The place is nice and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back & try more of their appetizers.

Best Restaurant in Nashville 3/3/2003

Overall wonderful experience. Ambience is cool, old house with simplistically amazing decorations and decor. Start at the bar and try all the martinis, they're all great, especially mango and mojito. For dinner, had firey shrimp, wasabi-crusted tuna, and creme brulee, all fantastic. Ask for Richard the waiter, he knew everything from wine to specials to Nashville. Cannot say enough about my positive experience at Mambu. Its the first place I'll take friends in Nashville. Pros: food, service, decor more

I could eat here every night 3/3/2003

Mambu's decor is cute, creative, and very original-- check out the ""Scrod bless you"" photo on the back wall of the bar. The fiery shrimp is fabulous and the blue ""popsicle"" martini dangerously drinkable... Overall a fun, festive, delicious night out. One of the best restaurants I've tried lately anywhere (Atlanta, New York, Birmingham, Nashville) Pros: Great drinks, Good service, Fun atmosphere more

You gotta say the name right. But the only two names I need to remember are ""firey shrimp"" and ""Johnathan"". The firey shrimp are so spicey/sweet that you will want extra bread to dip in the sauce! The bartender, Johnathan ( hope I spelled it right ), makes insanely delicious martinis. Look out though, the ""pour"" will sneak up on you. more

Impress your date! 2/3/2003

A pleasant place, that can only be appreciated. The ambience is relaxed, decorations are characteristic in their simplicity, and you feel immediately home. The staff is kind and prompt. The food is great, and every individual dish is a piece of art in itself. With an international menu, there is no way you can not enjoy your evening out at Mambu! We loved it, and will add Mambu to our list of favorites! Pros: free valet parking, relaxed atmosphere, different! Cons: construction details, bathrooms more

Excellent 1/3/2003

I have been to Mambu several times in the past couple months. I've had wonderful service each time from the eclectic, informative and friendly staff. Anita, one of the co-owners, is always a pleasure. The setting is a wonderful old four square home in the midtown section of Nashville. The bar is particularly a joy and pleasantly void of tv or loud music. For appetizers, I'm partial to the Brazilian searfood stew which always contains several large shrimp and scallops and two to three selections of fish. For entrees, the seared tuna is the house specialty, but the steak is equally delicious and simply and elegantly prepared with fresh blue cheese. For desert, I would recommend the bread pudding which was light and flavorful. In a very short time, Mambu has become one of my favorites and is always a sure bet for a relaxing evening with quality, interesting food. more

9! 1/1/2003

Had lunch with a new friend the other day and had a wonderful time. We both had the Soy Chicken Wrap and loved it. We also shared the Shrimp dumplings and they're tasty! I love the cabbage and soy/ginger sauce they came with. The Trinket board was full of cool and interesting souvenirs to view and we secretly added one of our own to it. Our waiter took great care of us in a professional and friendly manner. Thanks Mambu. I'll see you again. Pros: comfortable, variety, colorful more

Presentation is everything 1/1/2003

My friend and I were able to get reservations at Mambu for dinner prior to our New Year's Eve celebrations. The meal was a set four-course menu, which included betweens four and eight choices for each course. Presentation of each course was delightful, especially the Lobster Vericot Salad, which appears almost as delightful as it tasted. If you are looking for a classy meal in a wonderful setting, and you don't mind paying the price for it, I highly recommend Mambu for its food and pleasantness. Pros: Great Ambience, Presentation, Delicious Cons: Expensive more

Absolutely wonderful 12/27/2002

The food was out of this world!! I had the Tuna, it was cooked perfectly, and the mango sauce that went with it complimented the tune very well. Service was very attentive, never had to ask for a thing. Bravo, I will definitely be back!! more

Nothing special 12/20/2002

I didn't think Mambu lived up to the hype. The martinis were good, but, then again, how can those be messed up. The salmon was very fishy tasting and still slightly raw, and the triple chocolate dessert was dry. more

No leisurely meal here 12/20/2002

My friends and I were very disappointed in Mambu. We had reservations at 6:30 and had a 3 course meal. At 7:45, the chef and manager, Anita Hartel, asked us to vacate the table for another reservation before we even finished the bottle of wine! We apologized for overstepping our ""allotted"" hour to complete dinner. We will not return and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. more

The food was spectacular (awesome salmon!), the service was extra friendly and respectful, and the atmosphere was perfect. Top marks. Pros: delicious, decor Cons: price more

Try it, you'll love it! 10/3/2002

My husband and I went to Mambu last night after a being told by a waiter at one of our favorite restaurants, Saffire, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was very pretty. We had a sampling of everything. We had the Lobster Egg Rolls and Crab cake and everything was great, very tasty. The bread they gave was a combination of olive loaf, potato bread, wheat bread with a goat cheese, tomato dipping sauce. We next had the Arugula Salad and spinach Salad, with an asian flare. We had the Roasted Chicken Breast with vegetables and potato gnocchi and the Beef Tenderloin Tips. Just fabulous. A great mixture of textures, flavors. Finished off the meal with the Triple Chocolate Torte and the Almond Coffee Cake with Green Tea ice cream. We definitely will be back! Try it, you'll love it. more

Mambu, Love You! 9/25/2002

Being a native Los Angeleno I continue to find aspects of Nashville that make me feel less homesick. Mambu is one of them! The eclectic blend of food, drink, ambience and service has been transported from the streets of Melrose or La Cienega and has landed on Hayes Street! Couldn't have felt ""more"" at home. From the unassuming locale thru the entire house, there's so many fascinating things to enjoy. Heading the list, is the food. The dumplings...a must! The tuna...to die for! Tried the Veal Chop one time, the fresh catch another. Simply amazing! Didn't think I had any room left for dessert, but thought I'd better try. I'm glad I did! Had the almond coffee cake with green tea ice cream!!! WOW! who would have known that such a place existed right in the ""heart"" of Nashville? Well, I know! Mambu, I love you! more
