The place is nice and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back & try more of their appetizers.

One of my favorite places to eat 8/8/2007

I've been to Mambu several different times and have enjoyed the experience each and every time. I think the ambience is fun- an eclectic mix of furnishings and decorations. The food is consistently delicious and I've never had a bad waiter or waitress. You won't find some of the menu choices in other upscale restaurants in Nashville. The drinks are also very good. I'm surprised to hear that some patrons have not had good food- I wish they'd try it out again. Pros: Eclectic, fun surroundings with delicious food Cons: Parking (highly recommend using valet) more

My FAVORITE Nashville restaurant!! 8/1/2007

Mambu is always my choice for a special date or girl's dinner. The food is always fabulous with a changing menu. Great service, great atmosphere, and great food. If you're looking for something besides the usual, this is your place! more

One of the Best in Town 6/28/2007

I have been here are numerous occasions. The chef/owner is one of the nicest guys I know and really knows how to make a good dish. Sit back and relax as you pack your stomach full of a menu that is very ecletic. A must try for everyone. Pros: Great Service, Friendly and Great Foood more

Best deal in town 3/5/2007

Impeccable food, great service, decor that you won't find anywhere else in town, what more is there to say? The Dumpling and the Gnocchi appetizers are amazing, the Tuna entree was great, and the wine list is very approachable, something many restaurants don't get. Great night out, will defintely be back more

Baffled at this citysearch rating of 9.5 2/12/2007

I always look up new restaurants here on citysearch before going out to see them. I was glad to learn about the ""bonus"" parking lot inthe back, as there was NO chance of finding an easy spot out front to park. Pros: Great service. Cons: Really, just don't go. more

Go Easy on the Sugar!! 2/1/2007

Everything we tried at Mambu was way too sweet. Actually, everything was except for the service. Our server was pushy about ordering an appetizer (even though nothing on the appetizer list sounded very, well, appetizing. I mean, who wants to have fried calamari at an ""eclectic fusion cuisine,"" especially when the said calamari is tiny pieces of whatever pretending to be seafood, served with overly sweet marinara sauce?), and never asked us if we wanted freshly ground pepper even though he offered it to the table next to us. When we asked for pepper (as well as salt--the food was very bland), he brought us a pepper shaker. The host kept calling us honey/sweetheart even though she had no smile on her face. The place seemed very phony and poser-ish (evidenced by the ""art"" in the front dining room). For a place that boasts of being ""chef-owned,"" I definitely expected more. Even the paella was too sweet & had sprinkled shredded candied coconut on top! If you're looking to treat yourself to a gourmet meal, go elsewhere. Pros: friendly & speedy valet parking Cons: phony service staff, overly sweet & bland food more

High quality, but spotty preparation 10/29/2006

Great atmosphere, especially for a date or a small group, and a wonderful wine list. I was a little surprised by the preparation of my food though--my potatoes were completely cold in the middle and my friend's medium-rare steak was cold as well. It might have been a fluke caused by our large group though, so I will definitely try it again as the food that wasn't cold was quite good. Pros: Great atmosphere, good food Cons: Hard to locate parking, spotty food preparation more

Great place for a dinner party 9/27/2006

I hosted my husband's bday here for a party of 10. We ordered an array of appetizers for the table to share...the dumplings were a strong favorite. Service was great, but the wine did not pour as freely as I'd have liked, and the bottle sat on the mantle away from reach, but this was the only part of the evening that I did not like. Dinner was terrific for all. Intimate, the place is ideal for a small group as we had our own room but were still not isolated from the diversity of the place. I highly recommend. Very fun and very delightful, this discerning crowd asked for the chef and applauded at the end, we were so satisfied. Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: Wine list more

Absolutely a Delight 9/26/2006

A few evenings ago, I, along with my partner and two friends came here to eat due to a recommendation. WOW, were we impressed. By far the best meal we all had had in a very long time. The service was far above the expectations we had set. A very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A must for anyone who has not been here. If it is on the special, you have to try the grits with cajun sausage and parmesan....Oh My Goodness.....It was so good that we ask for a side dish of the grits alone. Much to our dismay, they only had enough for the fish special that night. And don't forget to leave room for desserts. Yes, I did say desserts, plural. We all shared four desserts. All homemade and beautifully plated. I will be back often. By the way, very affordable... Pros: Food, Service Cons: Can't think of one more

First timers, and it was great 9/20/2006

My girlfriend and I went to Mambu to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. The service was a little slow, but the food was excellent. Our waiter, Cody was entertaining and very helpful. My girlfriend, who is a little on the selective side even enjoyed her meal immensely (she had the NY strip with cottage fries in a bacon-type sauce). I had the Ming's Stir Fry and I absolutely loved it. The chocolate creme brulee was very rich and delicious and the coconut creme pie was very tasty. We will definitely consider going back. Pros: Great food Cons: Price more

wonderful server with wonderfully eclectic foods 7/16/2006

This was the first but definitely not the last time to go to Mambu. I was with a party of 10. Our server Cody was amazing! He was very knowledgeable about the foods and the history of the Mambu restaurant itself. And the Martini list was delicious. I had a Orangesicle Martini, very creamy and fruity sweet. There were others on the list I hope to try soon. My boyfriend and other members of the group had different wines from the wine menu and all were very happy with their choice. I started out with a Calamari appetizer. And Cody was right when he said ti was some of the best Calamari ever! I finished with the Shank Lamb, which was so filling and tasted amazing! My boyfriend had the salmon which was awesome! And normally I hate fish at any restaurant. I loved the decor in the rooms and felt so comfortable. I had a great time! The only thing I didn't like is the my party was split at 2 tables. It was awkward socially. Pros: ambience, different foods offered, martini menu Cons: no 10 person party table more

2 HOUR wait after reservation time. 6/29/2006

We had reservations at 7:15PM, we were sat at 9:00PM. There were no chairs to sit in while we were waiting because there were so many people waiting to be sat. After we finally sat down at a table. The waiter was then rude to my husband and I. It completely ruined our Valentines Day. They offered us a free dessert the next time we came to eat there. Yeah right, whatever!!!! It was our first and last experience with them. more

Pan-Asian at its best in Nashville 5/5/2006

Owner Anita was there to welcome us at the door, as always. She is part of why this is such a great place to eat. The menu is out of the ordinary and fun. The preparations are lovely and delicious. My husband and I go here for special evenings, eventhough it can get a bit loud at times. If you are in the mood to enjoy an evening of unrushed gourmet dining in an entertaining atmosphere..MAMBU is the place! Pros: great food, unique menu, martini selection Cons: close seating more

a picky eater satisfied 4/7/2006

THis is a vibrant place, and the wait staff really tries to form a personal relationship with the diners. Two of us ordered the fish of the day & it was succulent! One person ordered the tofu/veggie/coconut dish and she would not share! I did not have a martini, but others did and found them interesting as concoctions and delicious. We will be back - probably first to try that veggie dish. Pros: delicious food, appropriately priced, atmosphere more

two thumbs down 3/24/2006

I enjoy to eat out at nice places.. When we got there the place was not what I expected but I still I was very optomistic to it all. When I sat down my chair was so wobbly I thought I would fall into the floor at any moment. The other people eating were right upon us . I ordered the tuna which came out like a huge piece of RAW sushi (EWWWWWWWW) my boyfriend had seafood something that was like rice in broth,. The waiter actually was being very smart mouth to us for no reason & then it was an hour before they were closing & they were sweeping around us and acting like we were in there way and several other things while we were talking (very unclassey) we wanted coffee but they were so quick to rush us out we just decided to leave. more

Wonderful, wonderful 3/13/2006

went here for our first valentine's day- both foodies with high expectations. price was perfect- $20 less than the fixed price at every other quality restaurant in Nashville. I am a vegetarian and nothing on the fixed price menu was , but very accomodating and gave me the choice of picking sides from dishes that sounded good or having the chef making a dish. I opted for the latter and my boyfriend actually liked my dinner as well as his (it was a sort of lentil rice cake with a jasmine sauce.) He lovedshrimp dumplings, gnocchi appetizer was great, and the brulee was wonderful. On way out we booked a room for group a month later. mambu has supplanted all the others as our favorite. topped off by a proposal at the second table. Pros: valet, service, atmosphere more

AWESOME! 3/7/2006

coming from NYC, and we have some great places to eat, This place has the right kind of funky atmosphere, incredible food and the martinis are delicious. I love this place and cant wait to revisit again. and again and again.. more

What a find! 12/3/2005

My boyfriend and I, both new to Nashville, were looking for a romantic dinner. We ended up at Mambu by accident...what a lovely accident. The ecclectic decor was fun and light. The service, I believe his name was Seth, was fabulous. And the food was delicious to say the least. We had the gyoza shrimp dumplings for an app, he had a brazilian paella I had the pad thai, and a delicious chocolate tart for dessert. Everything was delicious and presented well. We didn't have a reservation, but Anita fit us in with only a very short wait...10 min. Pros: fair price, service, ambiance more

Definitely worth a try. 8/6/2005

We were looking for a restaurant with eclectic cuisine and we found exactly what we wanted at Mambu. While the Shrimp Gyoza and the Tomato, Mozzarella, and Basil salad were excellent. our entrees were a slight disappointment. The seared Tuna was made exactly to our preference however the File Mignon was very rare for my taste. I must admit the service at the restaurant was superb. When the chef/owner heard about the undercooked Filet he not only removed the entree from our bill he also offered a complimentary dessert. Being from the Northeast, it is rare to come across such generosity and understanding of customer loyalty. We will definitely come back and try the other eclectic dishes and also have the chocolate creme brulee which was simply divine. Pros: Outdoor seating, Martinis, Dessert Cons: Service , Overpriced more

Not Worth It 7/26/2005

My husband made reservations here for our 1st Anniversary because it was rated as a romantic restaurant. I don't agree. We sat in a spot in the front of the dining area where several other loud groups were seated. There was nothing romantic about being beside a loud bar and around loud groups of people. The menu did not have many choices and the overall quality of the food was not worth the money. The wait staff was very knowledgable and attentive, but we will probably never go back to the restaurant. It was not worth the money we paid to eat Pad Thai and seafood and rice. I would recommend going elsewhere if you want a great meal. Pros: convenient parking, attentive waitstaff Cons: Not romantic, Ambiance, menu choices more
