The place is nice and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back & try more of their appetizers.

I've heard a few people talking about this establishment and have visited a couple times over the past couple months. The food I had, as well as the food sampled by peers of mine, has been mediocre at best. The atmosphere is kitschy, each room having its own decor that looks thrown together from goodwill rejects. From what I've learned of the staff, the cooks are in constant turnaround, which may explain why the food is not consistent. When the restaurant is busy, dishes are often served incorrectly or just forgotten. On my visit, in a party of 10, one patron at our table (the one paying the bill, i might add) waited for 10 minutes for his food while the rest of the party ate. The drinks made by the male bartender working that night were poorly made. The second visit was for lunch and the place was full of obnoxiously loud power lunchers yapping on cell phones while we attempted to eat. Also, there was swearing coming from the kitchen loud enough for our table and other tables ar more

Food is good - go elsewhere for a drink... 6/30/2008

We enjoyed some good to great food at Mambu recently. The drinks, however, are not good. We ordered some margaritas and mojitos. The margarita tastes like it comes from a bottle of bad sour mix, the mojitos are the worst I have ever tasted (imagine liquid spearmint gum). We went a backup bottle of wine - too bad it was served at about 85 degrees (note to owner/bar manager: you need to chill white wine and slightly chill red wine to about 55-60 degrees). It's too bad that you cannot get a great meal and a great drink at Mambu, hopefully they will read this and make it an even better experience! Pros: Food, service, venue Cons: Drinks, Drinks, Drinks... Wow. more

Food below par. 4/27/2008

My girlfriend and I went to Mambu's expecting to taste some amazing food (at least good enough to justify its prices and live up to some of these reviews). I have to say the atmosphere was great, and the staff very friendly. However, we were very disappointed with the food. We started up with the vegetarian fried wontons as an appetizer. Some of these were FROZEN in the middle, and the others just plain, not flavorful at all. For our entrees we had the ""Mariscada"" (which they describe as a ""paella""), and a tofu-vegetable stir-fry. The peanut-sauce-based stir-fry was pretty tasty, but got boring after a few bites. The so-called ""paella"" was a tomato-based broth with some rice in it and seafood (shrimp, scallops, mussels... also chicken and sausage but we had it without them). Obviously nothing like a real paella if you've ever had one (it's not meant to be a soup!). This plate actually resembled one they have a Rumba's, but did not taste nearly as good. Pros: Atmosphere, Staff Cons: Food! more

Expensive 4/22/2008

The food is very expensive and not exactly worth the price. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good, but for money you can do better.\r \r Pros: Service\r Cons: Price and location more

Best Shrimp Dumplings...Ever! 4/19/2008

I have eaten at many places in Nashville and this has to be at the top of my list. Extremely satisfied with my experience. Well done Mambu! Service was great. Have to go in and meet the crotchie old hostess/owner Anita (very funny person). Go early and beat the rush. LOVED IT!!! more

One of a kind experience 4/19/2008

One word AWESOME. The food was great, the people were kind, and the drinks were good. By the way the waiter was soooooo hot. We love you Jabari. My only complaint was that i there was so much food i couldnt save room for dessert. I love you mAmbu. Pros: Amazing food, drinks and decor more

Best food in Nashville 4/19/2008

We have intended to try mAmbu for a looooong time but we've just never gotten around to it, so we decided to go for New Year's Eve. We had such an AMAZING dinner. The service was wonderful, the food was great, the atmosphere was just perfect for NYE. We are both huge foodies and are pretty hard to please, but this place really hits the spot. We agreed it was the best meal we've had since we returned from Paris about this time last year. A terrific place to sit and linger over dinner. The shrimp appetizer is to-die-for!!! Everything was good, but that really stood out. more

BEWARE.. Must read 4/19/2008

WONDERFUL FOOD, SERVICE, ATMOSPHERE, ETC. 3/6/2008

We dined at Mambu on Valentine's day and the entire experience was AMAZING. The food was wonderful, the service was impecable (which is very hard to find on Valentine's day). We did have reservations and were seated immediately. The entire meal was the best we experienced in Nashville. I would highly recommend Mambu. We had appetizers....salad....entrees..and desert and all was incredible. Enjoy! Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, ATMOSPHERE more

godly food and great atmosphere 11/15/2007

After being advised to pay Mambu a visit by a chef who works in the same kitchen as myself, I finally found an excuse and made a reservation. After briefly chatting with some of the friendliest staff I've ever met I ordered a Moroccan-style lamb shank. The lamb was perfect, no exaggeration, it was tender, lean, flavorful, hot, gorgeous. I will be returning when given another excuse to treat myself. Pros: bloody good food Cons: n/a more

Extraordinarily Diverse Menu with a Touch of Fun 11/2/2007

My wife surprised me with a birthday trip to Nashville and found this restaurant on the internet. Although usually skeptical about finding spots like this, I went along for the ride. WOW!!! From the minute we walked in the door the people were unbelievable. The drink menu at the bar should have been our first clue. Great specialty drinks and wine selection in a setting that was comfortable and fun. The dinner that followed was exceptional. What a great selection from appetizers through dessert. I could have ordered five different meals and still not had everything that I wanted. If ever in Nashville, you have got to try this place. I know I can't wait to come back! Pros: Diverse Menu, People, Service, Bar Cons: Rooms for seating are a little tight if there are large parties more

My favorite 10/29/2007

Mambu is always a 10 for me. Mambu is where my family have been going for every birthday, anniversary, or any special ocassion. Both dinner and lunch are great! I love the fun whimsical decor and the food is always creative and delicious! You would expect the prices to be on the higher side but are very reasonable. Try the mango martini, one of my personal favorites. The service - it does not get any better or more unobtrusive. I will be coming back often. Pros: ambience, piping hot food, creative and delicious more

Great food and service 10/27/2007

mAmbu is one of our consistent favorites in Nashville. The martinis are good and the wine list is more than adequate. The menu is interesting and small enough that everything can be made to order. We love the gyoza and lobster roll appetizers and the fried calamari is hard to beat. The duck breast and pork chop mains are terrific as is the steak which is usually one of the the chef's specialty menu additions. We are not dessert eaters, but they always look wonderful and our friends enjoy them. We recently hosted a small party at mAmbu and all our our guests had a wonderful time. The service, as usual, was excellent and the ambiance is always fun and welcoming. We look forward to our next visit! more

Great experience 10/11/2007

I went to Mambu last night for dinner and I couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. The cocktails were fabulous and they had a really nice wine selection for reasonable prices. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer that were well seasoned with a great combination of flavors. I picked a Corvina special for dinner that was light and tasty, and the chocolate creme brulee was fantastic! Our waitress was funny, attentive, and very accommodating. Also, the decor of the restaurant is inviting and unique. I will definitely go there again!!! Pros: Ambiance, service, food, drink selection Cons: Parking more

You have got to be kidding! 10/3/2007

Seriously. I read these great reviews and wonder where these people are eating! Not at the same restaurant where I have been eating. I have given Mambu 4 chances and only once was it a good experience. I like the idea of Mambu, but the service is HORRIBLE! I went last weekend for a friend's birthday... BAD IDEA. The server brought our appetizers at the same time as our food but we didn't have silverware or napkins and waited another 5 minutes with our food in front of us, we had emply drink glasses for the entire meal, we requested a dessert menu 3 times and finally got them from the hostess after a member of our group got up and requested them, then our waiter went our for a smoke break and never took out dessert orders. Then he had the audacity to include a 20% tip on our tickets. I will NEVER go back. Don't waste your time. Pros: great drink menu if you can ever get your order filled Cons: service! more
