Laura's Couture Collection

A friend and I stoped by their shop to just look at gowns. We didn't have an appointment, we just stopped to see if they could fit us in. They could have easily turned us away to come back for an appointment, but they greeted us with champagne and open arms! (SO amazing considering David's Bridal tried to talk us out of even setting an appointment because they'd be too busy). Laura and her husband gave us a consultation on the spot. My friend had a limited budget, so we told them she didn't really want to try on anything much above $1000. They DID NOT bat an eye at the price range! They said they immediately had some dresses in mind for my friend. It felt like shopping with life-long friends, they were so warm and caring, we were having a BLAST! They found my friend an AMAZING couture gown for under $1000. The person doing alterations is a designer and was completely amazing and talented. They are going to do some custom alterations on the gown so she will have a one-of-a-kind dress. They have set the theme for a fun and amazing wedding experience. We couldn't have been more pleased to go there. My friend is still walking on air from the experience!!!! Pros: So great and friendly, open to a limited budget! Cons: Make sure you pick your closest friend or family member to come, no groups allowed. more

Trust me, I was really looking forward to trying on bridal gowns. I wanted it to be the experience of my dreams and at every other bridal salon I visited, it was. This was the ONLY bad experience I had. The ONLY ONE. No one should be allowed to spoil this experience for any bride. If someone else has had a good experience, I am glad. But one good experience or one good review isn't enough to make me a believer. Do yourself a favor. Read all the reviews. See a theme? Tally them up. How many good experiences? How many bad? Make an informed decision. Don't let anyone ruin your day. We spent an entire day wedding dress shopping, visiting all of the major stores in the area- Ida's, Nolte's, Bridal Extroidinaire, and we had such a special amazing day....until we stepped into Laura's. My appointment was with Laura, who quickly handed me to the girl working the front desk. Apparently she decided we would not be worth her time. Our budget was around $2000 and she barely managed to pull 3 dresses, which were all hideous and a total embarassment to try on. As my mom was sitting in the main room waiting for me to come out with these monstrosities on, she could clearly see Laura and her husband behind her rolling their eyes and whispering to eachother. Everyone who works here is rude and caddy. I have never ever felt so disrespected in my life. I'm sure some of her dresses are lovely, but only if you can get past being made to feel as if you are insignificant and not worth their time. And I'm sorry, but I have more self respect than that. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Went for a trunk show and was told i could only look @ trunk show dresses and once i tried those all on THEN laura would let me see what she has even though i didnt like any of them. I explained in detail exactly what i wanted and NOTHING they brought in was it! After serving us many mimosas,they brought a dress that they insisted was very $$$ & that they would cut us a deal. Like the story above all i heard about was how their dresses were only the finest silk and no one else in KC carries dresses like these. They convinced us that we must purchase this dress today or @ least put down a deposit bc it would go fast! So we put down a dep. and my mom signed her credit card slip and i filed it away. After i got home i decided i didnt want the dress.Called Laura she said that she didnt want her brides unhappy & that they would do whatever it takes to make me happy. Went in to try on other dresses&none even came close to what i wanted, which was suprising bc when i first called, they went on & on about how i was their type of bride and everything thereis what i want. She took me in the back where she said brides dont usually get to go...also not true.I asked if i found one could they order it in. She said only if it was their designers, only HER designers are the best. i wanted beading,she said she doesn t deal with ""china dresses."" When i mentioned designers i wanted for my BM dresses she said i ""don't deal with that cheap stuff"", trust me they aren't cheap! She told me that i could either pay the balance&get my dress or leave the it and my deposit, i already paid 2/3rds of it!I told her that wasnt right but she said it was in our contract-""what contract?"" She said ""look at the fine print on the bottom of you receipt."" I left in tears& THEY NEVER WENT OVER ANY CNTRCT WITH US! &it doesnt say that so we are now trying to deal with them but when you call to talk to them all they do is yell and hang up on you-again HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I have been to a lot of bridal dress shops in Kansas City, Noltes, Mia's, Ida's Custom Veils, Laura's couture collection and several more, even one out of town. I have never had a bad experience until i stepped into Laura's couture collection. I had an appointment. They were not busy. My mom was there also, so they had to know I was serious about getting a dress. I gave them a good idea of what I was looking for and was excited to try on dresses. They came back with one dress, I tried it on.... it was ok but they couldn't stop talking about how it was quality silk and by an amazing designer. I wasn't super excited about it, and was interested in trying on other dresses. My budget was approx $2000 and you would assume that they would have more choices. After much deliberation, they finally thought of another dress i could try on. This was rediculous! The dresses weren't even that exceptional. I was definitely put on the spot and expected to love the first dress i tried on. The young woman helping me try the dress on made me feel like i couldn't even be trusted to touch the dress or put it on carefully and commented on how they are very protective of their dresses. So then they told us about some dresses that were on discount and that we should take a look. I was interesting in taking a look- afterall I would like to get a good deal on a designer dress. The owner then proceeded to take me to this back room where you had to walk out of the store, then back into another store, and into the closet in the back. The dresses were hideous, like from the 80's. I wouldn't even wear them for halloween. Plus, there wasn't a dressing room there--which didn't even matter because none were worth trying on. I was appalled at the rude service i received, like i was a second class citizen. Of the two dresses i did get to try on, i was not impressed. I find it hard to believe the other reviews are accurate! The experience I had was quite opposite! I was passing through KC from another state on a day the store was closed. I stopped and peeked in the window and the owner was there working..Laura immediately opened the door and welcomed me in, offering to let me try on some of their beautiful dresses on her day off. I was given 100% attention, and her selection was very classy and elegant. Exactly what I was looking for! IN COMPARISON...I went to Nolte's at Overland Park on this same day, and their store was open but the two ladies greeted me with nothing but complete rudeness - they even told me to ""just leave"" twice after I explained I was just passing through town and only wanted to spend 15 minutes to look for a specific style, but because I hadn't made an appointment they felt it necessary to turn my business away immediately. There were no customers in the store but they said they were to busy with paperwork from the prior weekend to even answer my questions, in fact while I was in mid-sentence one woman was so disrespectful that she turned to another and started talking to her. Money is no object to me in selecting my wedding gown, but respect certainly is certainly crucial! I would never buy from Nolte's at Overland Park, but would certainly recommend Laura's! The selection is beautiful and her design eye and customer service was outstanding. I rank Laura's Couture Collection an A+++!! Pros: Great service, beautiful silk selection, great prices! A family friend recommended Laura's Couture saying that ""they had some beautiful things"". I wouldn't doubt that, but I couldn't get over how rude they were over the phone. I wanted to look for some veils and I let him know this over the phone. I think he was irritated that I wouldn't be purchasing my dress from them (seeing as I had already purchased my dress in Chicago). He asked me where I purchased it and then let me know they only carry the most exclusive brands (blah blah blah). For a second I almost felt like Pretty Woman when she went shopping in Beverly Hills. I let this go and made an appointment. The next day I called back and wanted to know what flowergirl dresses they carry...he proceded to tell me that they don't carry many and told me he'd have to call me back because he was on the phone! I let the first one slide, but this was ridiculous. If this is the way i'm treated over the phone, there's no telling how I will be treated when I get in there. Obviously there is a reason Nolte's is more well known and the better choice in Kansas City. They carry beautiful things and have great, friendly service! Cons: Terrible customer service. more
