GOOD – Although I was never able contacted the service manager on calls (many over the month they had my laptop) he always called back within a few hours. They could not fix my problem so they did not charge me a diagnosis fee.\r
BAD: Had laptop about a month, could not fix my problem, rushed to a costly diagnosis without doing thorough troubleshooting steps, could never contact service manager on phone without leaving message for call back, took too long in evaluating different possible problems, did not use express delivery for part (e.g., overnight) to expedite repairs, apparent lack of urgency in fixing problem (should have kept at top of repair list but too much time between contact to show evidence of repair urgency on their end).\r
SITUATION: My laptop screen did not work. I already replaced a couple of parts trying to fix the problem and before I spent more money on the next step (replace LCD cable), I took my laptop to the Laptop Guys thinking they would have diagnostic testing tools to validate a bad cable, replace it, and get it working. I even explained all steps I did/replaced and told the guy at the desk I believed the cable was bad. He estimated 2 weeks for repair. The service manager contacted me after a week (after I called on status) and he said the laptop would not boot up and the motherboard was bad – with a huge cost to replace what he called a “common well known” problem on this laptop. I knew this was wrong and explained what I knew, my troubleshooting steps, issues exhibited, and that I was concerned on the level of troubleshooting expertise of his techs. After going back and forth on status calls for another week and a half, they said it might be a bad cable and would order one with a repair cost of $199 (for a $50 part). After a total of about a month, they said the cables they received and tried did not work and gave up. They gave back the laptop and basically said – sorry, we can’t fix it, it was a complex problem, and you can have it back (still not working). Fast forward a week - within 10 minutes of internet searches, I found the LCD cable I needed, I installed it, and the laptop is now working just like new again. I will not recommend the Laptop Guy to anyone and will not consider their services in the future.\r
