Absolutely love this Tapas restaurant. We have been going to La Tasca for past 16 years with boy friend (now Hubby), girls night out and for large group parties. The food has improved over the years tremendously. Some of our favorites are baby octopus, sun dried dated, herbed goat cheese, beef kebabs, calamari, paella, and of course the Sangria and Flan. We have introduced La Tasca to many others and never have had one complaint; in fact we bump into many of our friends on live band nights. La Tasca always has fun new item to try on the specials and my sister eating Gluten free will always be pleased on the Gluten free menu they offer. I also personally like Café Iberico when downtown but between driving from the burbs, valet, and all the commotion we frequent La Tasca much more. Iberico is really good when downtown, I wouldn’t bother much on try any others. La Tasca is spectacular choice for tapas in the burbs and no brainer for anyone to try. YUMMY! more

Not Spanish 5/7/2012

Food ok, but not Spanish. I'm Spanish (born in Spain, lived in Spain until... last year). You can like this place, but don't say it's Spanish food, because it's not. Don't try the ""paella"" please... more

Overcharged for Drinks... 2/17/2012

Decent service... Decent food. But, surcharged us for ordering drinks ""easy ice""... Of course, didn't know this sneaky policy until the bill came... more

Latasca is the Best 12/31/2011

We went there couple nights ago and the food was outstanding.even though economy is bad, the place was busy. They must be doing something right. Service was good. We had Canelon de atun, Goat cheese, bravas and a meat embanada. Flan for dessert. will go again more

There are better places . . . 8/22/2011

Limited menu, limited specials, everything fair....\r \r When a special says ""gambas"", that means more than 1 shrimp. We ordered a special of ""gambas & pesce"". There were two small pieces of swordfish and 1 shrimp. The fish was very nice, the 1 shrimp was overgrilled. The so-called saffron rice it was served over, was like something out of a can.\r \r In fact, we had a ""canalon atun"" which was tuna salad wrapped in a ""pasta"". It was bland.\r \r I ordered a house salad, and I think someone ran out to Costco for the ingredients, and the dressing tasted like Ken's Walnut raspberry Lite.\r \r The bread was nearly stale (crust was rubbery).\r \r We also shared the ""delicias andaluzas"" which are dates wrapped in bacon, broiled and served in a roasted red pepper sauce. The dates were tiny compared to elsewhere and frankly the sauce was too sweet and hinted of tomato.\r \r My wife had a mojito, which was ""ok"".\r \r The best dish was the gazpacho (which is pureed), but the server came with a tray of garnishes that he spilled all over the place.\r \r I had an Alhambra Negra (dark) which was fine.\r \r I am totally unimpressed and we will stick with our favorite tapas place which is so far superior it's not funny: Tapas Gitana in Northfield. more

La Tasca tapas of Arlington Hts is our Favorite 4/10/2011

La Tasca tapas restaurant of Arlington Heights is the most highly acclaimed restaurants in Arlington Hts for the past 16 years. We believe that out of the half dozen tapas restaurants we have tried in Chicago land area that La Tasca is simply the one with most flavors and welcoming staff. The combination of quality of their tapas, festive and romantic atmosphere, and inviting menu selection make it the perfect place to eat and sample tapas and Sangrias. In fact many of the places we sampled in Madrid and along the southern coast of Spain were not as good as La Tasca…. But we were on a budget in Spain and went to tapas restaurants that probably run on tourist and not repeat diners. Some of our favorites that we like to mix up along with daily specials are CANALÓN FRÍO DE ATUN Pasta filled with yellow-fin tuna salad, asparagus, basil, red onions and topped with a creamy white wine vinaigrette, PIMIENTOS ASADOS Fire-roasted, tri-color peppers with olive oil vinaigrette, PATATAS BRAVAS Fried potatoes with a creamy cayenne sauce, VERDURAS HUERTANAS Plate of grilled fresh vegetables drizzled with a fresh basil vinaigrette, PINCHO DE SOLOMILLO Grilled brochette of beef tenderloin, mushrooms and pearl onions, drizzled with a Spanish sour cream sauce over shoestring potatoes ,the YUMMY QUESO DE CABRA herbed goat cheese baked in a tomato basil sauce, served with tomato baguettes, CHAMPIÑONES RELLENOS Jumbo mushrooms stuffed with ground pork tenderloin with pine nuts, marinated in Spanish brandy CHULETAS DE CORDERO Grilled lamb chops brushed with herbed olive purée, PAELLA Fish and the best we have tasted… Silky FLAN. Their home made Sangria’s rock and will knock your socks off, traditional red and mango are our favorite, but beware they go down easy but are strong with added gin, triple sec, brandy, etc… We attended a rehearsal dinner at La Tasca with what must have been over 100 people and the food and service was just as good as the two of us eating at one of the live band nights. Bravo and Ole La Tasca! more

"" BEST/ MOST authentic tapas in the Chicago 12/3/2010

La Tasca: Tapas Well Worth the Wait by Julie Chernoff graduated from Yale. A graduate of the California Culinary Academy, Julie has a varied food background, including stints as Asst. Food Editor of Weight Watcher's Magazine; personal chef to Boz Scaggs; manager of Wolfgang Puck's Postrio in SF and Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill/Topolobampo in Chicago; caterer; and cooking teacher to kids and adults alike. She likes to eat. By the time we were finally seated on a very busy Saturday night—quoted an hour and twenty minutes, we waited an hour and forty-five— I was hoping that it had been worth the wait. Happily, the food did not disappoint. We used our bar time productively, sampling the delicious Sangria (not just red and white, mind you… they have mango, champagne, pomegranate and a few others). To soak up the alcohol as we passed the time, we ordered the Plato de Jamon y Queso Manchego ($7.95), lovely rosy slices of Serrano ham and paper-thin Manchego drizzled with olive oil, and the Pan con Tomate a la Catalana ($6.95), basically a Spanish version of bruschetta. Both vanished, along with the marinated olives that were continually replenished. When our beeper did finally light up and buzz, we were a bit lit up ourselves. But no matter! Off we went to our table near the window, which actually felt set apart from the busy bar hum, and it was quite cozy. Tapas are meant to be shared, which makes it perfect for either a group or a romantic tête à tête. The Tortilla Espanola ($6.50), a room temperature Spanish omelet with sautéed onions and potatoes, was among the best I’ve ever tried. Moist, potatoey, and beautifully seasoned, it was served with roasted pepper strips. The Delicias Andaluzas ($7.75), sun-dried, bacon-wrapped dates with a red bell pepper puree laced with sherry vinegar, were another best in class. Another big winner was the Pincho de Solomillo con Champinones y Cebollitas ($7.50), tender grilled chunks of beef tenderloin served over crispy shoestring potatoes, drizzled with sour cream sauce. We also loved the Patatas Bravas ($6.75), fried chunks of potato with a creamy cayenne sauce, just the right amount of spicy, and the Calamares a la Romana ($8.50), tender fried squid rings (that could benefit from a crunchier breading) with a sweet and hot sun-dried tomato alioli. Hard to believe we still had room left—and honestly, I’m leaving out a few dishes that were tasty but not earth-shattering—but as the waiter spooned Paella Valenciana ($14.95 per person, but “for two” is plenty for four, especially after a sea of tapas) brimming with roast chicken and pork, Spanish chorizo, clams, mussels, peas and sautéed peppers, we grumbled loudly about how very full we were, then proceeded to polish it off, accompanied by the last few sips of red Sangria. If you have room for dessert, try the Arroz con Leche a la Tia Maria ($5.95), a lovely version of Spanish rice pudding redolent of citrus and cinnamon, or the Delicias de Chocolate ($6.95) an impossibly rich slab of frozen chocolate mousse flavored with Gran Torres and served with Raspberry sauce. Pass on the espresso, which was the only loser in the night’s sea of success. If you go to La Tasca on a weekend night, be prepared to wait. They do take limited reservations for parties of 5 or more, so get a group together, make a call, and enjoy some of the BEST and MOST authentic tapas in the Chicago area. makeitbetternorthshore more

Another fun Girls night out at La Tasca 10/17/2010

La Tasca isour favorite tapas/restaurant of all time. The sangria is amazing and the servers are very knowledgeable and make great recommendations. Staff is welcoming and make it fun. The Queso, the goat cheese is delicious and a must have. La Tasca has a great atmosphere for a night out with the family/friends or a girls night out. Their flan is absolutely outstanding!!!! Bands rock and location is just perfect. The restaurant is extremely clean and the free valet was a plus. La Tasca thanks again. more

Euphoric TapasHouse 5/27/2010

La Tasca tapas restaurant stands tall from the rest!!!! What a feel good restaurant! They have the tastiest tapas, best traditional and spectacular specials, power sangrias, funnest atmosphere, friendliest staff, and are consistent for the past 14 years. Try dates and bacon, lamb chops, patatas bravas, sea scallops, beef tenderloin kabobs, and the best most very best ""FLAN"" in all of Spain, U.S. etc. The bands are a blast for the burbs and with no cover charge. We eat well and drink to a buzz, dance the night away at times for about $25 per person...try that in the city! Gas, tolls, and parking cost more than that in Chicago. Fun with one and my favorite is when we get a large group (get to try a bunch of the delicious tapas) Living in Spain for about three years I can honestly say that La tasca is even better that most touristy tapas restaurants even in Spain. Try it for your self and see, feel, taste. The restaurant is always CLEAN and the open kitchen shows no surprises in prepping food....what a show to watch. Bravo La Tasca tapas of Arlington Heights...OUTSTANDING P.S. Thanks for offering the free valet in today's economy. Pros: Tapas, drinks, Atmosphere, bands, Free valet more

Tastiest Tapas Around! 5/23/2010

La Tasca is a wonderful restaurant, best in Arlington Heights! I've been going to La Tasca for over ten years and it is our favorite tapas restaurant in Chicago. My friends and I love to come here on the weekends. There is a great atmosphere and plenty of delicious food! Some of my favorites include: the bacon wrapped dates, herbed goat cheese in tomato-basil sauce, sea scallops, and the flan is to die for. Homemade Sangrias topped with fresh fruit make for a sweet summer drink. I like to go with a large group because you are able to sample an array of many different foods! Bands are also a lot of fun. I definitely recommend a visit to La Tasca if you haven't already yet!!! Pros: Tapas, Sangrias, Atmosphere, Entertainment, Free Parking more

Great place for tapas and sangria 6/14/2009

This is a great place to go for a drink and some tapas while sitting in the picturesque view of the Inner Harbor. The sangria selection is good, but many selections are almost too sweet and the pitchers are mostly filled with ice. The tapas selection is good and the paellas are tasty. I do have to admit that the paellas are somewhat americanized and not true to their Catalan origins. Compared to more authentic paellas there are no crispy burnt pieces of rice, one of my favorite features of a good paella. Overall the restaurant is a good time and an excellent introduction to tapas restaurants. Pros: Great views Cons: Food not so authentic more

LaTasca the city and suburbs thank you! 4/6/2009

La Tasca has been the best Spanish/mediteran restaurant the burbs has had to offer in in the last 12 years. The food, people, drinks, atmospher, will surpass most Tapas restaurants in Chicago and many in Spain. We have enjoyed it as a couple and with friends, and many LARGE familly parties. Try the dates in baccon, scallops in cheese and bachemel, the potatas bravas, octopus, fillets for sure. I would put the Carmel flan against ANY in the world!!!!!!!!! The dance and bands are one big party as if everyone is one big family . No trendish fake snubs like the city. Try and you see. Thanks again LA Tasca! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

La Tasca stands out from the rest! 3/7/2009

La Tasca has the tastiest tapas in city, burbs, and much of Spain . We have been going to La Tasca for over 11 years and it is always fresh, friendly, fun, and fantastic. We have brought groups up to 88 people and the food, service was just as good as always. I travel a lot for business and have tried many restaurants throughout, but La Tasca has to be in my top three world wide and favorite here at home. Try the pork tenderloin, octopus, sundried bananas with bacon, goat cheese, tuna rolls and Flan! Flan! Flan! Hands down best flan you will ever taste!!! Lots of good drinks?.i.e. homemade Sangria flows and has a fun buzz to it. Check out the quality bands and gigs. Powerhouse shows for free! La Tasca, La Tasca staff, and to Danny and his partner, thank you for all the wonderful times and meals. Bravo! Pros: food, people, clean, friendly, bands, Cons: n/a more

Happy NYE 2009! 1/5/2009

Now I remember why don't go out on NYE. They DOUBLED the price of the menu, but kept the portions same...$50 pitcher of sangria and $14 for 6 pieces of bacon wrapped dates? Come ON...they overcharged my credit card for $25 holding fee and then gave us two $25 coupons at table while dining...tacky!\r \r Tip: Always pay with cash if you don't want the hassle with them. They need to learn how to split the check with multiple credit cards, otherwise everyone's card will be charge the whole amount.\r \r It was not a positive experience this time, have been quite there a couple of times it's a gamble with the service, but the food keeps bringing my back. Pros: Free valet parking, bacon wrapped dates Cons: Need to learn how to use credit card machine, because they don't know how to split tabs on multiple CC, Danny B more

Mediocre food, Overpriced, Horrible Service, Watered-Down Sangria, Overcharged Card 8/30/2008

I would not recommend La Tasca to anyone who truly loves tapas and the whole experience surrounding it. I've been there twice; once to try and again to give it another shot because they are so close to where we live and the set-up is decent. Sadly, the results were the same.\r \r The menu was OVERPRICED and misleading. The food was MEDIOCRE at best. The portions were thin relative to other tapas restaurants. The service was HORRENDOUS. The sangria was watered-down with so much ice and fruit that we barely got four small glasses. To top it all off, the waitstaff overcharged my card on BOTH visits for a combined $40 ($20 each time), even after the generous tip I left them. This seems to be a common practice as my friend told me they had dome the same to him. To me, it's not about the money, but the principle. I confronted the management, who seemed less than concerned. No solutions were offered. \r \r Overall, the food tastes less than mediocre, the service was horrible, and the whole operation is shady. Do not go to La Tasca, unless you like being overcharged, scammed, and treated with disregard. If you do go, remember to save your receipt. I would recommend spending your money elsewhere and having a much nicer experience where you won't feel like you're being shammed around every corner. more

Tastest Tapas!!!! 5/3/2007

Tapas in Arlington Heights, I must say, surpass the many tapas we have sampled throughout the U.S. Even some of the tapa bars in Spain. The staff is professional but, give you a feel that you have known them for years. The atmosphere is colorful with walls of painted tile murals, marble bar, lots of wood and authentic pictures and photos. Another huge point for us is the restaurant is very clean. We have been drive out there to meet family and for some of there live shows. Our favorite is the grilled baby octopus, paella, herbed goat cheese, always at least one of the specials and of course ?their? Flan! Flan! Flan! La Tasca just makes for a great gathering place. After eleven years they are defiantly doing it right. Pros: Food, ambience, live music, free vallet Cons: It is not in Chicago more

LaTasca delivers the finest tapas experience in Chicago! 10/23/2006

Ive been to every tapas restaurant in Chicago and none compare to LaTasca. Right in the heart of downtown Arlington Hts., LaTasca offers the perfect dining experience. The sangria is outstanding and the extensive wine list has something for everyone's taste. I recommend trying the ""Vina Ardanza"" which is a vino from Rioja that is simply liquid heaven. Some of my favorite tapas here are the goat cheese, scallops in a vegtable bechemel, trio of grilled sausages, and of course, the beef tenderloin fillet with the cabrales cheese sauce. Also, pay attention to the wonderful collection of daily specials which are always the highlight of my meal. LaTasca also offers a traditional Spanish paella which no other tapas restaurant in Chicago can rival. The service is top notch and everyone is consistantly very helpful, curtious, and energetic. For dessert I recommend trying the flan, which is some of the best flan you will ever have. If custard isnt youre thing then i would go with the sauteed bannana topped with caramel and pistaccios. Overall, LaTasca is head and shouders above the rest in the tapas world. If youve never been yet, crawl out from under that rock and head to downtown Arlington Hts. for the most incredible tapas experience youve ever had! Pros: extensive wine list, daily specials, wonderful service Cons: weekend reservations reserved for parties of 6 or more more

Best Tapas in Illinois! 7/6/2006

Hola! Originally from Columbia raised in Florida moved here 2 years ago with my husband. We started looking for great latin restaurants. To our surprise, we found many spanish restaurants here in Chicago, but only a few stood out. Iberico was a lot of fun, but i have to say that La Tasca in Arlington Heights has to be one of the best spanish restaurants in the Chicagoland area. The consistancy and flavors of the food are second to none. The portions seem to be a bit larger than the other tapas restaurants we have been to. Not only that the flavors are more traditional and creative. Thier homemade sangria is much better than anywhere else. The wine list is very extensive. We always order the pulpitos (grilled octopus) which is so fresh and are cooked to perfection- charred flavor yet tender and flavorful. We also enjoy the paella which is by far the best we have had in Chicago. The service is great and the staff is very knowledgable. I highly recommend La Tasca in Arlington Heights. Pros: Atmosphere, Clean, Live Entertainment Cons: Let you know when i find one! more
