La Dolce Vita Salon & Day Spa

The salon was decorated nicely, however, the chairs you sit in for the pedicures, the massaging cushion was broken and the remote, table & lamp were dusty. My manicurist was NOT with it - she must have been having a bad day - she came late, she did a poor job with the spa pedicure (she forgot to scrub one of my feet and she did a half-a job with the leg massage) and I just didn't get the attention I thought I would get at a salon like this. It got a little better with the manicure but I think she was just rushing me because when she was done, she left the building to run an errand. I went with a friend of mine and her pedicure got started before me but she was done after me (her manicurist was VERY thorough - I wish I had had her!) Overall, the experience was not very relaxing (the manicurist talked non-stop, mostly about her bad back and how much she was in pain) and it was DEFINITELY NOT worth the $$ it costs. The service I received you can get at ANY local salon - you would expect more at this place, especially with the prices they charge. I live in California and was looking for a spa to send my daughter and son's girlfriend to for facials and massages. I did an internet search for Boston Spas and La Dolce Vita came up. I checked it out as well as others on Newbury Street but in the end I went with my gut and booked them here. I can't explain it but there was something about the site that I liked (I went back to it about 10 times!) and I thought the prices were good. I was met with a friendly and very courteous girl on the phone who had no problem making appointments for a Friday afternoon. When the girls arrived at the spa they said it was really cute, that everyone there was nice, it wasn't crowded so they never felt rushed and they absolutely LOVED their facials and massages! I would definitely make another appointment here and I know the girls would happily return! more

Kathy is the BEST hair stylist I've found in Boston!!! And I'm one hard girl to please. :-) She truly understands hair and really cares that you're getting a cut that works for you. No matter what I do to my hair, it looks great and I get compliments on it all the time. I would follow Kathy to whatever salon she was working at. La Dolce Vita is a great place for her. I urge everybody to get a massage from Melissa. She is an amazing woman and definitely has a golden touch. I have had many massages before but this is by far the best I've had. The way she does her massage and the pressure is just perfect. Other people just coudnt get it right before. It would either be too hard that it would be painful or too soft that it would be tickleish. Melissa has got it perfectly that my body felt like it was melting away with relaxation. I left that place feeling like a million bucks. Their prices are reasonable too. I just wished they offered student discounts. I definitely highly recommend this place especially Melissa. more

I never write these reviews, but based on the fact that my fiance and I had the worst massages ever and I have had numerous massages in spas and professional massage therapists, I figured this warrants a write up. On top of all of that, my fiance spent $200 for us to spend some romantic quality time together, which was exactly the opposite of what happened. After my fiance and I arrived 10 minute early and our appointment came and went. We were somewhat reassured that our massage therapists would be ready soon. It turns out they had booked one of them for a hot stone, which take 90 min, making her run 30 minutes late. Then we had to wait until they had set up the massage area and had to listen to one of them discussing how she would be late to the theater now. Very unprofessional! On to the massages - We were asked whether any area was bothering us and we answered "neck, shoulders, and lower back." My fiance got more of a back massage than I did. My neck was barely touched and neither of us were massaged on the lower back. I love deep tissue massages. I get at a minimum 2 a year, since I carry my stress in my shoulders and neck. Now this massage was ROUGH not deep. It felt like our bones were being massaged rather than our muscles. In addition, my fiance's left hand was massaged TWICE but never his right hand. Needless to say my hands were not massaged. There was no kneading, just RUBBING?! Our legs were massaged for half the time in the SAME places over and over again, but not our upper thighs?! After 45 Minutes NOT 60 Minutes we were told that we were all set and our masseuses literally JETTED. We never saw them when we were done and were not even provided the cup of water that is customary. Beware of Vera and Pollianetta! Needless to say, something that was supposed to be a treat and romantic, turned out to be frustrating, dissapointing and PAINFUL! Pros: Looks pretty Cons: Bad service, HORRIBLE Massage! more

I had a great experience at La Dolce Vita, I went in for a full day of beauty with a friend, we got the Refresh package and had a great time, we left feeling like new women. The atmosphere was charming and the staff was very friendly, I will most definitly return. more

seeing the website i thought la dolce vita looked nice and i wanted to give them a try. After seeing the salon in person, i was so diappointed. The waiting area was a mess, there was no water in the water cooler, the trash barrel was over flowing, the rug was filthy, the front desk a complete disaster. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, the sink had so much mildew i didnt even want to wash my hands. The service itself was up to par and I was satisfied but the condition of the place was so bad that I will not go back there. When I was checking out, they didnt even have cash in the register to break change or give me cash back. I asked to speak to a manager and there was not even one on duty. This is no way to run a spa in copley square and I dont know how they stay in business......... Pros: Service Cons: cleanliness, lack of management, organization more

I wanted to get my boyfriend something special for our one year anniversary. We both had been meaning to get a couples massage for a while so I decided that this would be a great surprise for me to get us hot stone massages. I called La Dolce Vita salon after reading great reviews on CitySearch and was a little disappointed to find out that they only had appointments for the next three weeks on Sunday afternoons. But I decided that it was alright and I had called only a week in advance so I took the Sunday appointment. My boyfriend and I arrived and were pleasantly surprised to find a very nice and chic salon. We were escorted upstairs to the massage room which was very nicely decorated. Outside there was some sort of concert in Copley and since the room overlooks the street (there are heavy curtains over the window to block light) there was a lot of noise that was coming in. Word of advice, make sure that there isn't a concert taking place the day you get your massage... So about the quality of the massage, it really wasnt work the $250 that I spent. I've had better from beauty schools. They were hasty and quick (what you dont want in an hour massage) and one of the women (they switched halfway) had very shaky hands which made it really distracting to try and relax. It didn't seem like these ladies wanted to be here at all and I realize it was a Sunday but I did pay $250 and I really wanted this to be special. Anyways, needless to say I wouldn't personally go back but maybe a different day of the week would be better?? Deanna is by far the best esthetician/Brazilian wax I have ever been too/had. I've converted all my girlfriends, roommates and even co-workers. I've been to a few other people in the past and none pale in comparison to Deanna's skills (even the other estheticians at the same salon); she's quick, thorough and amazingly not that painful. Don?t make the mistake of going to someone else like I did, thinking they will be the same. I?m telling you now; Deanna is like heaven in comparison. I don?t dread going to get waxed anymore, what more could you ask for?! Pros: She's available on Saturdays and the spa is next to the Copley T stop. more

I recently went to La Dolce Vita to get my hair highlighted and cut. A few of my friends go there and I love the way their hair looks. They have been loyal clients for about a year and have nothing but great things to say about their hairdresser. When I made the appointment I didn't specify who I wanted to see. Big Mistake. Let me back track alittle. I've been getting my hair highlighted for years and all I ever ask for is a natural looking golden blonde. I have pretty much always been happy with the end result, liking some hairdressers better than others, but never being disappointed. Well let me tell you I was extremely upset with the way Tricia did my hair. When she was done it looked streaky and looked like I still had roots. Not to mention the color that she put in didn't really match the rest of my hair. I do not know how you can mess up someone's hair that badly and not realize that it looks horrible. On top of that the cut was kinda lopsided, one side longer than the other and the layers all hacked with random short and long pieces. I was so shocked that I just left without saying anything about it. Now I have to wait and let it grow out alittle before I can go back and see my friends' hairdresser, whose name is jen by the way, to fix it. I should have gone to her in the first place and saved myself from all this aggrivation more

Got a Great massage from Vera. The hair/nail area is ok, not super clean, but the upstairs where the massage and esthetics are is beautiful. Pretty mural and classy rooms. I just moved to Boston and am on a search to find my new waxing salon. Unfortunately, my search is not over. I tried La Dolce Vita recently and while the people were very nice, the salon looked pretty clean, I was overall not impressed. I think the salon is trying to be more upscale than it actually is, and my brazilian was not great. Elana was my aesthetician, she was very nice and talkative, the waxing was not overly painful, but it wasn't meticiulous either. I've had a fantastic aesthetician that I'm trying to replace and I still haven't found my replacement. I won't be going to La Dolce Vita for my next wax. I was so pleasantly surprised by La dolce vita. I called for the first time the day of on a saturday to see if I could get a last minute appointment. They're open late, even on weekends, and they fit me right in, even though I didn't make it easy for them (I was stuck at work until late). Now let me preface what I'm going to say here--my hair is impossible to cut. It's super straight, and super fine so if it's not done perfectly, you can see every little mistake. Plus, I can't get it cut in a way that I'm going to have to style AT ALL because A) Idon't have the time, and B) even if I do style it, my hair is so fine that it will go flat 20 minutes after being styled. Regardless of this, every stylist I go to tries to give me some trendy cut that I'm going to have to mess with, and I inevitably end up unhappy. But Jen, my stylist at la dolce vita, took one look at my hair and understood what I needed. She gave me an amazing cut that looks great WITHOUT ANY STYLING AT ALL, and to prove it, she didn't try to give me that crispy, "I just left the salon" hair. She just dried and it looked perfect, with no effort at all. I left so happy, with a cut that was right for me, which is no small feat. I'm definitely going back. more
