Ay-yi-yi! Everything was great! We'll definitely be ordering from this place again.

Worst

I ate here last night and had a decent experience. It was a bit pricey for me and the margaritas tasted off. I will have to try eating and drinking here again next month, maybe th...

Delivery took an hour and a half. They used a radish as a garnish, which stunk up the entire meal! It tasted and smelled so gross, we had to just throw it all away in the dumpster downstairs and go out to dinner. more

The taco salad was extremely disappointing... 90% lettuce and the chicken was just bad. I've used Grubhub in NYC many times and has been spot on every time. This was the first time I've used it since moving to Los Angeles and it may be the last... For living in such a warm climate it was shocking how cold my food was. Also delivery took 1:45. more

Editorial review from GrubHub 3/28/2013

Most of the time I can say I love La Cabana but my last order was beyond screwed up. It was suppose to be delivered at 8:10 but it was delivered at 9:00 even thought I placed a call into Grubhub (the jGrubhub people were excellent). My nachos were delivered sideways, I asked for two beef tamales and got 1 beef and one chicken of which I thought was a chicken enchilada. I didn't get my cheese cake. I had to call to get my cheese cake If this was my first order from La Cabana, I never would order from them again. How can someone be so stupid to deliver something like nachos sideways? more

OMG 4/20/2011

If I lived on the border of Texas and Mexico, I'd probably be snobbier and less enthusiastic about this place, but I grew up in Michigan so F it! They are open later than I would ever even need Del Taco and that includes the bar. Huge tequila menu and wonderful fresh squeezed margs. Walk in and immediately you smell the sweet earthy smoke of their famous fresh made tortillas. Salsa on the table and the fresh fried chips are like nothing you've ever had, even though you've been to a hundred Mex places before. Trust me! Every dish on the menu is Tex-Mex heaven. I've been there a hundred times so I speak with authority. Interesting items like Jicima Salad, Black Bean Empanadas and fresh Sopes make this my favorite unassuming Mexican restaurant. more

The only place in town open till 3am! 4/19/2011

I've been coming to La Cabana for 30 years now and it is still one of my favs. The back patio is where it's at. Start off with a Cadillac Margarita then order away, everything is delish. If you want a hearty meal that you will have to get a doggie bag for...order the Chile Colorado. If you wanna go light, try a taco or enchilada a la carte.La Cabana is always a winning choice! more

Great Food 2/6/2011

I love going to La Cabana. There food is so good that I want to eat there almost every day. I love Mexican food and have tried so many different Mexican restaurants. I always come back to La Cabana because I know the food is consistently good. The Margaritas are yummy also. more

Good for margaritas, bad for food 9/14/2009

I have tried this place several times and have been disappointed in my food each time, with a new menu item tried each time. Really mediocre food. They do have a large selection of tequilas and if you just want to go out for margaritas this place isn't a bad choice. Pros: good margaritas Cons: mediocre food and bad parking more

Lousy place for food delivery. 9/11/2009

I ordered a combination plate, for delivery. I said no cheese, it had cheese. I said flour tortillas, they gave me corn. The beans were cold, the rice was dry, the tamal, though not greasy, was loaded with fat and discolored, and had no sauce over it. The tortillas were cold, hard and chewey, and the chips rubbery. Cons: Worse than steam table more

Twice Bitten 8/2/2009

We made the mistake of going twice with family and couldn't back out! This place has the worst Mexican food EVER!! No cilantro in anything, the guacamole has like mayonnaise and other unfamiliar seasonings or chemicals added. It made me desperately wish for Taco Bell. It was very crowded and especially noisy with super bad guitar playing in background. Just awful and worst of all, I knew it!! You can somewhat judge a place by their chips and salsa. Did I mention the COLD stale chips?? Margaritas taste like old bottled syrup stuff. I don't get why this place is popular??? Oh... Venice that's why!!! I'LL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN! Pros: Open til 3am Cons: Food, Cold Chips & Margaritas more

Very Mediocre food 4/27/2009

For a business that has been around for so long, I don't understand why. Ordered what should be one of the tastiest diners, the carnitas plate. It was a complete mis-mash of pork pieces. A few soft pieces mixed in with fatty ones, the chewey pieces tasted like something gridded and scrapped of the grill. (Uck!) Have never had such terrible mixture of meat. And with extra thick, (1/4'') pancake corn tortilla's, found they were way too filling! What kind of Gringo do they think I am? This one is defiantly off my list! Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: thick tortillas'? more

Very Traditional Mexican Restaurant in a cozy setting. 2/11/2009

I was taken here on a date and was pleasantly surprised. The place does not look so pretty from the outside, but once you walk in you get warmly greeted by the ladies at the door. We went on a Tuesday night and it seemed pretty crowded like it was the weekend. We got seated right away in a very big roomy booth. The place has a very cozy ambience and has a lot of Mexican charm. The servers are very professional and attentive. I was said to hear that they only served Fajitas during the weekend. I rarely get to go to a Mexican restaurant, and so having Fajitas would have been such a big treat for me. That is something they should think about serving ALL the time. My margarita was okay, nothing too great. Honestly got the worst headache the next morning but that may have to do with the fact that I do not drink often. However, I have tasted way better margaritas elsewhere. They do have a really nice menu with very authentic Mexican dishes like enchiladas, ceviche, albondigas, burritos, and quesadillas. I went with the El Verde burrito with chicken. When I got my dish it was huge and it came with a lot of rice which I love. It was strange how it came with fresh tomatoes inside the burrito, but hence you can tell it was freshly made. I ate only half of my burrito and took the rest home. Filled me up quick. Oh and you can see the lovely Senora making fresh tortillas within view from where we were sitting. That was very cool. Our food was served right away. I would definitely come here again, but it would be on a weekend so I can try out their Fajitas!!!! Pros: Ambience, Large portions, Service Cons: Parking, Exterior of Restaurant, No Fajitas on Menu!!! more

Authentic 12/1/2008

If authentic your looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant then this is it. Make sure to get the nachos. Pros: Great Food Cons: Too Dark more

Great Food! 8/13/2008

Owner Message
  • Since 1963, La Cabana in Venice has been serving great Mexican food. A little senorita pats out thick tortillas by hand on a brick-layered fireplace and a festive strolling guitar trio takes you back to pueblos of Mexico. There's a colorful outdoor patio where you can wash down chips and salsa picosa with over 18 varieties of margaritas. La Cabana serves monster burritos and sopes made fresh from the tortilla comal. The Chile Rellenos are to die for and they have an excellent Carne Adobada (pork steak marinated in a smokey chile ancho and pasilla sauce).
