Best

Ay-yi-yi! Everything was great! We'll definitely be ordering from this place again.

Bad Food 8/12/2008

This place is over price. The place acrosss street (Casablanca) is a lot better. The food was bad and service was ok. Pros: open late Cons: bad food more

Greattttt 5/11/2008

Great food. I got the cheese enchilada combo and the enchiladas were amazing. Their salsa and chips are great too. I liked it because it wasn't heavy, sometimes Mexican restaurants make their food too heavy, too cheesy, greasy, etc. but La Cabana doesn't. Their food is awesome and does not leave you feeling bloated. I ate the whole plate and I'm a tiny person and didn't feel full. It was great. Cool atmosphere too, and fun singers! Pros: Great Food, Open late, Fun atmosphere, Great place to come with friends Cons: Parking is hard, & it gets very busy here more

LOVE THIS PLACE 4/7/2008

Went here for diner with friends and loved it. Their drinks are the best. Nice crowd too. Priced well. Pros: Great Time more

Editorial review from GrubHub 3/19/2008

It was amazing!! I love La Cabana a lot. the food was perfect, prompt delivery. I will definitely oder again. more

Best late night dining in the west side! 3/6/2008

Good mexican food and great entertainment on the weekends. We have gone with large parties and they usually accomodate us quickly. The food is tasty and inexpensive. They are open late and the locals are always around. The Duet singers swoon you with love ballads and it is a romantic little place. Great Margaritas! Pros: Great late night dining! Cons: Minimal parking! more

Authentic Mexican food -- great fish tacos and more! 2/11/2008

La Cabana has some of the best authentic Mexican food on the Westside. I've been going there for years and have never been disappointed in the menu. The service is good and I feel the prices are reasonable. It can get incredibly busy, so I avoid the restaurant during peak hours. La Cabana is open late! When I get late night cravings I just phone in for pick-up. Pros: Friendly service, fresh salsa and homemade tortillas Cons: Can get too crowded more

Not Horrible, but Greatly Overated 9/18/2007

This place is overated given the poor quality of food it serves. I did have 'La Cabana Blue' premium margarita & it was tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. Still, the decent drink plus the semi-bad food is definitely a not-going-back. Pros: local, quantity Cons: semi-bad quality mexican food more

Great for after the bar 8/27/2007

Go here after consuming too much booze and the food will help fight the inevitable the next morning. more

just ok 8/8/2007

I ate here last night and had a decent experience. It was a bit pricey for me and the margaritas tasted off. I will have to try eating and drinking here again next month, maybe they were just having an off night. I did love the room, service and atmosphere. Pros: great service and atmosphere Cons: everything else just ok more

The name even tastes good! 7/17/2007

Okay... where do I start with my favorites? Seafood enchiladas are my usual, and never disappoint. When I bring guests I brag about the margueritas and the Quesadilla ""creations"" which you can find no where else. My guests are never disappointed and assume the potency of their Marguerita was a fluke, until they order the second, and its just as strong. Pros: Food, Margueritas, ambience Cons: easy to lose track of time when inside. First timers don't know you can park across the street. more

I love handmade tortillas 7/17/2007

Any place that makes handmade tortillas is ok with me. I was a little disapointed with my margarita though. Tequila selection is a little weak. I find it wonderful that they are open so late!!! what a nice service to the community! My relleno was decent. Just keep those tortillas coming!!! Pros: open late, nice place Cons: more tequila & food selection more

Some LaCabana facts and opinions 7/11/2007

I do not know charmgrl nor due I judge people. I feel compelled to state a fact: LaCabana does not have fajitas on thier menu. Another fact, across from the reception desk is a plaque that lists the number of years waiters and their family members have served at LaCabana. Some of these gentlemen have worked at LaCabana b/t 20-30 years if not longer. The El Verde burrito with fish (I request the fish taco sauce on the side) is a huge slice of heaven. Dare I say I would give my left arm and maybe leg for a plate of Pechugas de Angel. I have lived in Venice for 9 years and made a decision many moons ago to replace my drinking water with LaCabana's house margaritas because they are simply said...DELICIOUS. Pros: Hand made corn tortillas, house margs, the Empanada's creamy chipotle dip, EL VERDE burrito Cons: Carefully cross Rose from the parking lot across the street especially at night more

expensive for what you get. 7/9/2007

went there after a fantastic day of shopping. Our service was slow, fajitas had a bad after taste, margaritas were just so-so. The Bill was way too much for what we had. I wanted to like this place, better luck next time. Maybe my next visit will be better I like to give places a second try~ just in case....(7/16/07 correction I had the Carnitas, not pork fajitas, sorry!! typo) Pros: nice place, nice area Cons: better luck next time more

Lots of character and ambiance! 7/8/2007

La Cabana has so much character and ambiance, it is one of our favorite places to visit on any night of the week. We enjoy the margaritas (my favorite is the ""La Cabana Blue"") and the appetizers on the patio (the empanadas and shrimp and spinach quesadilla-yummy!). What gives the restaurant so much character is the decor, the staff, and the mariachis. It transports you to Mexico the moment you walk through its doors! Lots of fun! Pros: Ambiance, great food, good service Cons: none I can think of more

Best Mexican food around 6/11/2007

I would say that after several trips to this place with different people that this place has consistently been an enjoyable experience. Order a pitcher of margaritas and one of their many unique quesadillas and have a good time. If you still have room for dessert, the Cheesecake Congos are amazing. Pros: Food, Margaritas, Parking Cons: none! more

We loved this place! !! 6/2/2007

The hand made tortillias and the chile relleno was an incredible dish - it was awsome and authentic - finally a place that makes it real. My friend had the spinach and shrimp quesadiila and it rocked! The sevice was spot on and the margaritas were good too! We had a blast. We are defintely coming back Pros: Authentic food Cons: Street parking more

Listen to these bad reviews! 5/28/2007

This place went from bad to worse quickly. The service was horrible and our waiter had long dirty fingernails. In fact, the whole place was dirty, the chips tasted like stale fritos and the food had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for the entire 30 minutes that we had waited for it. I usually love small, unique restaurants off the beaten path, but I could not find one good thing about this place. Do yourself a favor, listen to the bad reviews and stay away from this place -you're better off at Taco Bell. . . Pros: Cool tiles on the outdoor patio. Cons: Just about everything else. more

ONE VISIT WAS ENOUGH! 5/23/2007

i had heard mixed reviews so i decided to try it out when i was feeling like some mexican. ICK! even if she hadn't mentioned it, it was pretty obvious that neither my friend or i would ever return to la cabana. the menu is unorganized & so hard to read and as i read in a previous review, nothing on it is very enticing. it was very hard to order something that included everthing or anything that i usually look forward to when dining mexican.
first, they don't have black beans. however, when i saw that the empanadas had black beans i asked ""oh, don't the empanadas have blk beans?"" our server had no shame in confessing that they were pre-made. i clarified, ""so they are frozen and reheated?"" and the answer was yes. how do they get off charger $7 for something thats thrown in the microwave?!!!
secondly, they only have pork tamales that are dry and disgusting.
thirdly, they couldn't be shadier with the guac...it doesn't come with any entrees and is barely present is anything else! marketprice? come on, its guacamole not fresh toro!
thirdly, i cant believe they won ""best margarita in LA"". way too watery.
overall i'd say pass & go to el cholo, its delicious and way more reasonably priced.
oh yeah, the beans are totally crusty like mentioned in another review...another sign of reheating. Pros: authentic mexican interior and nothing else Cons: FOOD, SERVICE, VALUE. plus with the check they gave us two smashed lollipops! thanks a lot. more

Not somewhere to go out of your way to 5/6/2007

The homemade tortillas are basically the only thing worth coming back for. The food and ritas are qutie average. If stuck in Venice and close to La Cabana would be the only time I would come back. Pros: Great homemade torillas Cons: Food not worth the price more

Owner Message
  • Since 1963, La Cabana in Venice has been serving great Mexican food. A little senorita pats out thick tortillas by hand on a brick-layered fireplace and a festive strolling guitar trio takes you back to pueblos of Mexico. There's a colorful outdoor patio where you can wash down chips and salsa picosa with over 18 varieties of margaritas. La Cabana serves monster burritos and sopes made fresh from the tortilla comal. The Chile Rellenos are to die for and they have an excellent Carne Adobada (pork steak marinated in a smokey chile ancho and pasilla sauce).
