Ay-yi-yi! Everything was great! We'll definitely be ordering from this place again.

Worst

I ate here last night and had a decent experience. It was a bit pricey for me and the margaritas tasted off. I will have to try eating and drinking here again next month, maybe th...

Great Atmosphere & handmade tortillas 4/12/2006

The service leaves a lot to be desired, but the atmosphere, dining area, locals, and drinks are great. The restaurant's feel with mariachis, colorful murals, patio and dimly lit seating makes for an authentic experience. The food is really not that great, but everything considered its a fabulous place. Pros: atmosphere, margaritas, locals Cons: food, service more

long wait but great place 4/9/2006

I've been to restaurants ranging from ruth chris steak house to taco bell, which this place is your average mexican restaurant. what is not so average is the good drinks, and the bow-tie clad waiters. The food we had was good but what was very nice were the Trios style musicians (trios is an old style music which i believe originates from puerto rico). They did a few mexican classics and played the two requested songs i asked for very nicely. well worth the 20 dollar tip i left :) the other reviewers must be the stuck up wanting to be catered like a celeb. get over yourself! this place is poppin' and yea, it is kinda crouded (in fact we almost left because we waited so long) they don't do reservations which is kinda unfair for people who don't like waiting when they are hungry. but overall, nice place. Pros: ambiance, food n drink, musicans Cons: long waiting time, crouded (on sat) more

User review by septima7 3/15/2006

Tried out this place finally. Actually it was quite good. The best by far are the Margs. My friend got some sort of premium margarita- that was good. I stuck to the house gritas and they were great! The food was good too. I recomend the green El verde burrito. It was packed with all the things i like and i had enough for lunch the next day. Overall it was a good first experience. next time Im going to get that marg my friend had. Pros: The Margs, The Food more

crappy food, crappy margarita 3/10/2006

Went to the restaurant because of all the rave reviews only to find the food and service to be bad. I ordered the chile relleno burrito. the waiter brought it over saying the usual ""plate hot"". It was not only not hot but cold in the middle. It was as if it had been pre-made and then reheated. My wife had the steak picado and thought the same about her meal as the refried beans at the edge of the plate were hard and crunchy. The margaritas were very so-so as was the service. We felt as if we were being shuffled in and out with the speed that everything was served. Cons: Cold food, Weak drinks, Lousy service more

the food is TERRIBLE 2/23/2006

this place is known for it's margaritas (that are not bad- but certainly not the best in LA) but the food is absolutely horrendous. i've eaten several meals hoping that the previous was just a fluke, only to be disappointed every time. Pros: fun atmosphere, easy to park Cons: food, food, food more

For good Mexican food and great margaritas... 12/20/2005

In Venice, this restaurant is very charming with it's pueblo-style decor and nicely-dressed staff. Service is friendly and prompt. On some nights there is a mariachi band to entertain diners. The front of the restaurant is filled with booths and dining tables. In the back is a patio-like setting -- trees strewn with lights to give more of a romantic ambience. As for the food, the Spinach Enchiladas are always a great choice, topped with lots of cheese and accompanied by rice and beans. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well as carne asada, chicken and mariscos. Their burritos are humongous and very tasty. Best of all are their margaritas...with plenty of flavors to choose from. The coconut margarita on the rocks is excellent. I don't eat Mexican food too often, but when I do, La Cabana is where I go. Pros: Margaritas, Vegetarian Options, Ambience more

Fresh and Fast 12/7/2005

Great service, fresh food and a chill atmosphere. The margarita was subtle yet strong just how I like it. All in all a great place to eat, whatever time of day and night. more

You Gotta Be Kidding Me! 12/5/2005

These reviewers must be family & friends of the owner. I've been here at least a dozen times hoping to find the ""magic"" that everyone talks about, and all I see in this place is an over-rated, over-priced mediocre restaurant with rude waiters. Skip the hype go to any number of better Mexican restaurants to be found in our great city. Apparently, even bad Mexican food can be consider good at 3 a.m. Cons: Boring Food, Bland Flavors, Rude Servers more

Great Authentic Mexican Food Late night drinks! 11/9/2005

Great Authentic Mexican Food! Open till 3 am, Great Margaritas! Love to go around 2am after a party, open till 3 am. Great place to have drinks with friends in the patio. more

Absolutely Fabulous 10/27/2005

Recently our friends turned us on to this place. After passing by so many times we decided to check it out. We had no idea how big the place was! it looks so tiny from in front but it was surprisingly big inside. And the place was packed! We had to wait for a table which wasnt too bad since they have a bar. We were anxious to try out thier margaritas because we had heard so much about them and they were excellent! The food was very good too - My wife had the ""Sopes"" and I the Verde burrito. It was all very good. Request the patio for seating if you can... it was a blast! It was very lively and lots of fun with live music. We all had a great time. I would recommend this place. Pros: Great Food, Fun time more

The Best Mexican Food! 10/17/2005

This place by far has some of the best Mexican food on the west side. We discovered this place a few years ago and we have been coming back ever since. The food is great, the service is outstanding, which in LA these days seems to be harder and harder to find and the Margaritas! WOW...! they are out of this world. Forget ordering by the glass and go for the small pitcher for two. These guys do it right. For a great dinner and excellent margaritas, I highley recommend this place! Pros: Margaritas, Authentic Mexican more

The Best Mexican Food on the West Side 8/2/2005

If your visiting the Venice or Santa Monica area or just live in the area and looking for great mexican food. La Cabana is the spot. Great food, awsome service and the best drink on the westside. A friend brought me here 15 years ago and I have been coming back ever since. The staff is great and if your planning that special event or that special dinner La Cabana is the place. La Cabana is one of the hottest spot on the westside for Cinco de Mayo. So stop in for some great chips and salsa and handmade tortillas. Tell them that the Cisco Kid sent you............. Pros: open until 3 am, great patio, great staff more

Awesome Food! Killer Margaritas!! 8/1/2005

We heard about La Cabana through a friend of ours and after going we definitly will be back!! The food was some of the best Mexican we have ever had (and trust me, we know good Mexican food) My friend had the carne adobada and it tasted heavenly. I had the tortilla soup with a shrimp and spinach quesadilla. Both were excellent!! The margaritas were tasty and packed a punch! Pros: Great food, Great margaritas more

Excellent ....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 8/1/2005

I ate at La Cabana after work every Sunday for 7 years (believe it or not, sounds lame doesn't it!) and as recently as a few weeks ago. I never had a bad meal there and everyone we brought became a fan. Really great mexican with a hand made tortillas and awesome Pechugas. Not sure what to make of the reviews, guess they had a bad experience which we NEVER had at 100's of meals there(often with large groups). The food is top notch and we used to substitute items all the time. Service was so good we called them RoboWaiters. Anyway best Mexican we found in LA after 15 years... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. more

  • Since 1963, La Cabana in Venice has been serving great Mexican food. A little senorita pats out thick tortillas by hand on a brick-layered fireplace and a festive strolling guitar trio takes you back to pueblos of Mexico. There's a colorful outdoor patio where you can wash down chips and salsa picosa with over 18 varieties of margaritas. La Cabana serves monster burritos and sopes made fresh from the tortilla comal. The Chile Rellenos are to die for and they have an excellent Carne Adobada (pork steak marinated in a smokey chile ancho and pasilla sauce).
