Amazing dim sum. More expensive than the norm, but so worth the price. When I go to Yank Sing, I tend to feel like I am overpaying but somehow when I come here, I never feel lik...

Worst

Koi Palace arguably serves some of the best Chinese food in the Bay Area but also has one of the worst services. The staffs are not friendly and are snobbish. I only go there be...

Bad Service. Not worth the wait. 8/13/2006

Usually very good for dim sum although the wait is insanely crazy and long. Dinner absolutely is not worth the wait and definitely not worth going to for Chinese New Years! I really wish we hadn't. The service was horrible. Each dinner plate came every 30 minutes which meant we were very hungry and annoyed. We understand it was a busy night but giving us that kind of service meant they didn't care about retaining customers. Will never come back here again. Pros: parking lot Cons: poor service; long wait time more

Stay away 5/16/2006

Been there 3 times. Food is good, no doubt about that - but not that good that you'd want to wait 3 hours for a table while having to stand around in a parking lot. There are a lot of dim sum restaurants in the bay area that are also good and without the wait. The worst part of the waiting is the managmeent's shady seating policies. I've seen group after group of people bypassing the front desk without getting a number. They headed straight to the dining area where they waited by the bar for a table. People were being seated without numbers. One group that had been waiting by the bar, even stood by a table while the people eating were waiting for their check. As soon as the people left, they sat down. If you understand cantonese, check it out next time. Pros: good food Cons: seating policy, loud, lack of ac more

Preferential Seating a waste of my time 5/14/2006

Mother's Day, 2006: After three hours of waiting, we finally sat down to eat. After our meal, and as a large table behind us cleared, some folks just swooped in and claimed the table. They'd been waiting inside the restaurant, apparently with the full blessing of the management, to snatch the first available table, while people like us were waiting patiently outside for their number to be called. As we left, the manager picked up our signed credit card receipt and began to complain to us that we'd only left a $4 tip. I snapped back that if they weren't allowing friends of the restaurant to get in ahead of people waiting in good faith for their turn to sit down, the tip would have been higher. Because of this blatant favoritism and unfair, preferential seating, we will never return, no matter how tasty the food. Pros: Food is tasty Cons: Stop preferred seatin, explain seating rules more

Good Food Delivered With Extremely BAD Service 4/16/2006

Koi Palace sure knows how to serve its renowned food up with a rotten attitude. The staff has no concept of service. From the moment we sat down I had to repeat my order 3 or 4 times to 3 and 4 different people, and still we waited forever before our food arrived. And we had hot pot, a meal that requires almost no effort on the restaurant's part, since the cooking is done by the customers. Once I left a tip and was publicly berated by the waiter because he thought it was not enough. The last time I was there I was so upset with the service I decided to leave no tip at all. I could hear the staff bad-mouthing me litterally as I was walking out of the restaurant. Serves them right though, because that'd be the last time I'll eat there. Pros: Good Food Cons: Bad Service, Long Wait, and Bad Service more

awful service and over-rated food 3/20/2006

disgustingly horrible service. Long waiting time plus rude service make an unpleasant experience. The waiting staff from hostess, waiters to manager carry an attitude on their face. There is no fun to dine at Koi regardless of Honk Kong style dim-sum. Pros: free parking Cons: rude service, Long waiting time, tiny portion more

Waiters and waitresses from hell !!! 3/18/2006

This restaurants packs in a good crowd and seems to be doing good business which probably explains the arrogant attitude that I got from employees at the restaurant. It's obvious that the management at this restaurant has not gotten the word out to its employees that they're there to serve customers with a smile (period). Granted, the food was good but not worth the attitudes that I had to put up with. If you want have an overall great dining experience, trust me, this isn't the right place for you. But if all you care about is a good Chinese grub then by all means they serve a pretty good dim sum. Pros: Good dimsum, free parking Cons: Service from hell more

Best dim sum in the bay 9/6/2005

Koi palace does have the best dim sum in the bay area. If I'm going to eat dim sum, i must have it at koi palace or I rather not go to the other places. It's of course still no comparision to the dim sum in HK but here in the bay area, it is #1 in quality and selection. more

Whether you like it depends on your patience. 7/26/2005

It's a nice setting and cleaner than most Chinese restruants. Although, I'm a fairly patient person, the wait is more than tiring. If you get there before 10:30 there's no line but after that, all hell breaks loose. Often, I get a number and go shopping before returning; even then I have to wait 30 minutes. Wait time is generally 1hr~2 1/2hr. If you have connections, you don't have to wait; even people with reservations wait long which is ridiculous, and parking is abysmal. The only good thing about this place is the food which is a fair price for decent dim sum and other foods. The service isn't really that great and you practically have to yell across the table due to the liveliness. They have a good selection of tea, but it's pricey. If you're a saintly patient food lover, go; if not, I honestly won't recommend it. Pros: food Cons: wait, parking, service more

Best Dim Sum Outside Hong Kong 6/21/2005

This is about the best dim sum place I've tried outside Asia. All loyal customers of Tong Kiang should try Koi -- it is SO much better than Tong Kiang on Geary. Yes, the wait is long, but there's a reason for that. The dim sum is always fresh, succulent, and there is so much variety. The chefs here always experiment with new recipes, so you can be sure there's more than just shrimp dumplings. The dinners are just as good. Excellent shark's fin soup and crab. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Totally worth every penny. Pros: food, food, food Cons: waiting, service more

Excellent service 6/19/2005

I think Koi is the best Dim Sum place in the Bay Area! It's a real Hong Kong style Dim Sum place, and you have varity choices for seafood. The price is reasonable with the high-end food quality. Many people are all complain about their wait time for the seating, well...personally, I don't really think it's a problem for me! It's always worth to wait for a good food. If the food is not good, who wants to go! If you don't want to wait, go to somewhere else then! more

GOOD FOOD BUT WORST SERVICE 5/27/2005

This restaurant is always packed with people. The food is good but the service is the worst in the city. From receptionist to manager, most of them has poor customer service. They only serve well their regular customers. For Dim Sum, you always need to wait long for the table, especially on weekend. Because they always seat the regular customers first. For Dinner, they always try very hard to recommend sea food which is pricy. Honestly, the food is good especially Dim Sum. There is a lot of variety. But we also need good service in a restaurant. That's what we pay for - food & service. I hope the owner will look into it. Because it does not just happen once or to me only. My friends and relatives all have the same opinions & decide not to go there anymore. It's unfair to pay & being BAD treated. Cons: Limited Parking, Crowded more

Great Dim Sum, Make Reservations 5/15/2005

Line gets long quickly at lunch time. Lots of items to choose from, and you can order from the menu if there's something you want but hasn't come around yet. Good chicken feet. Large dining space, perfect for groups if you plan ahead and make a reservation. Worth the trip outside of SF! Pros: Excellent Food, Large Dining Room Cons: Service Descent, Gets busy fast more

Poor Service, Extremely expensive 5/8/2005

Lots of complaint from friends & public: Long wait due to cheating of the in house hostess and Managers. Only provide seats for known customers. Dishes are expensive. If you order common inexpensive dish, then you receive no service at all. General comments from people is no service is provided from this restaurant. If you are willing to enjoy chinese food or dim sum and want to spend resonable price, go somewhere else instead. Cons: Poor Services, Bad Attitudes, unfair waiting lines more

Best Dim Sum 3/7/2005

This is definitely the best dim sum place in SF (or just outside SF). Expect to wait a long time on Sunday mornings - you better arrive before 10am or after 1:30 if you want to reasonable wait. You'll see plenty of chinese people there, which is a sign of a good place. A good choice for dinner too - definitely pick a fish from the tank and have it steamed. However, this place is a little over priced. more

Don't Bother! 12/31/2004

I wish I had read the previous reviews in Citysearch before going. Koi Palace has gone downhill. The service is RUDE. We called ahead & were given the wrong info on when they open. It was a mob scene for dim sum. Service horrible & the quality of the dim sum has slipped. Cons: , Rude service, Bad seating more

Wanted to Like it 10/6/2004

Went here for mom's birthday. Made reservations but were seated next to the kitchen door. Table was not ready, staff seem very unfriendly. The food was very good and the portion are good size for the price. However, you need to work on service. No smile or waiting skills at all. Food came all at once so we felt rushed. Good to go if you don't mind the so so service. Pros: Food, Location, Parking Cons: , Price more

baceliu 9/19/2004

The absolute WORSE restaurant you can ever find! The service is just horrible. From the hostess to the captains and the managers. None of then know what custmer service is. The owner really should read the comments on his restaurant. Everyone who works there are RUDE. The system for calling ahead to reserve, get your number & wait for 2 hours is ridiculous. Then to find out that you can go to the rear of the restaurant and pay $20 and wait for only 5 minutes just isn't right. I would never recomment this restaurant to anyone. Cons: , Wait time, Crowded more

HK by the Bay 5/24/2004

With Vancouver fresh on my mind, I have to say that Koi Palace can roll with their best restaurants. For those that don't know, Vancouver is considered to be HK#2. Many of Koi Palace's dishes like the Spotted Prawns with Garlic were better than the famous Sun Sui Wah and Koi's dim sum was equal to Kirin's offerings. Koi falls short in the service department, though. In Vancouver, there are many attendants making sure your table is uncluttered and that you're always eating off of a clean plate. The white tablecloths, linen napkins and simple chopstick holders distinguish Vancouver's restaurants from Koi. If only Koi could employ the same service attitude we'd be in heaven. For those complaining about the prices, this is the going rate for high-end seafood/dim sum fare. There are alternative restaurants in Sunset/Richmond but you get what you pay for. Pros: Excellent Seafood, dim sum Cons: , Long Waits more

decent for the location 5/22/2004

I go during the weekday before noon, or you will have to wait. The wait- person gives you this sheet and you choose varying dishes. They also have ladies bring around dishes which you can choose from. Compared to other dim sum palces, food is hot and good taste. Pros: dim sum is hot, lots to choose from Cons: , parking lot crowded more

Great Chinese Food 5/8/2004

Best chinese food I've had in a while. Quality of food is great, but make sure you have a reservation or be prepared to wait. Great variety of food. Although, there wasn't any noodle dishes on the menu. Tried the vietnam beef steak and beef short ribs and they were excellent. All the dishes we ordered from the appetizers to the main dishes were excellent. Gotta come back to try the dim sum. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A RESERVATION Pros: resonable price, great food, variety of food Cons: , noisey more
