Quality down and prices up. 6/15/2011

I come back here every six-eight months to see if anything has changed. They are on a steady trend downward. They keep removing things from the menu like homemade potato chips or cinnamon buns. Prices have gone up a lot as well. If for some reason you order takeout check everything carefully they often leave items out or get orders incorrect. My latest trip resulted in chips and queso with no queso it was made incorrectly as well. more

Average food Average Service 12/29/2010

Kirby Lane is an ok place it has three things going for it LOCATION, its located right next to UT, collage students arnt picky with food I guess, Stays open late actually 24 hours I think and 24 hour breakfast as well, And a select good things on the menu. When I go to Kirby Lane I always get the same things pancakes and queso, yes together, cuz thats all I like there and the turkey club sandwich or whatever its called is ok too. I tried to stray away from these very few Items and it was not a good Idea on my part.\r \r As for service its hit or miss just depends on how lucky you are that day sometimes you will get OK waiters, never excilent, or just plane lazy ones.\r \r Good option for late dinning but then again setting yourself up for bad service cuz late night is when they are most busy and during the day you can find much better food for better price as well. more

Decent Breakfast 1/13/2010

Went to Kerbey Lane for a lazy Sunday morning breakfast. The place was buzzing around 10am even though UT classes don't resume for another another week, but only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. The food was just what you expect at a diner-- good, but not great. They use eggs only from local sources which I think is very cool. All in all, an enjoyable experience and a nice chance to read through the latest Austin Chronicle. Pros: Good Diner Food, Inexpensive Cons: Not spectacular more

The best caterer ..... 12/13/2009

We've used KLC several times for large luncheons. We chose them for our holiday party. We had a dinner for 120 folks that was cancelled within 45 minutes of serving. the delivery people hung with me on the phone for over an hour to make sure the food was delivered to a homeless shelter. They delivered to the shelter on a Saturday night and they waited to meet me. What a holiday joy!!! We donated food together. Great folks at KLC. Pros: When in crises they stay the calm more

Decent and convenient location 9/20/2009

Kerbey Lane has two things going for it...the location and decent pancakes. Their food isn't spectacular by a long shot and I would honestly prefer a chain restaurant like IHOP to a lot of their options. However the huge size of their decent pancakes does a lot to help them out. The servers aren't as rude as they are made out to be. If you are in the UT area and want a quick short stack and coffee then this is the place for you. However, if you are looking for a high quality and all around delicious saturday morning breakfast I recommend Hoover's or The Original Pancake House Pros: Location more

Amazing Atmosphere 4/9/2009

I went to Kerbey Lane across from campus for the first time pretty recently and had a fantastic time! I had to wait, which could have been annoying, but the host was playing really awesome music and had the cutest little pandas on his stand! He was pretty adorable, too! He was the perfect first taste to a really amazing staff. I don't think I've had a more hospitable dining experience in Austin. The food was good. Excellent late-night munchies. Filled up on queso, but i was my own undoing there. I would totally go back again just to chat with the host, though. He is an excellent face for Kerbey Land on the Drag. Pros: Weekend Host, Good Service Cons: drunken crowds more

Worst service ever!!! 9/21/2008

I'm a student at UT and it's been 2 years since I first went to Kerbey Lane Cafe. I think I've been there enough to write an overall review. Food is always good if you are not seeking for something very special. Greek Chicken is my favorite, all dishes are around and above average except for burgers. I think overall food/price ratio deserves a ""recommended-4 stars"" for this place.\r The service, however, has never been above the Austin standards. People are rude (except for a couple of guys served last year) especially when you go there after midnight. They think all customers coming after midnight are drunk and deserve bad attitude. Last night they shout out loud to a group saying not to go in and wait outside (those guys were drunk and did not care, obeyed the orders). We were coming from studying hard, not drunk (maybe we could perceive it as ok or even fun if we were drunk), shocked with that behavior. It was like an army camp, unbelievable. That same night, our food waited to be served more than fifteen minutes after they were cooked (cook time 15mins, serving wait time 15 mins more). We saw our dishes just sitting there and no one dealt with them. Really, really bad service. When I told the guy ""I did not order this side but that"", he first tried to show me his notes and saying ""no you ordered this not that"" and then realized I was right but did not even try to apology. I think UT students deserve much more even when they are drunk and careless.\r Overall, if you don't care about service at all, Kerbey Lane offers good food with reasonable prices. But, if you think service is as important as taste, you should definitely go to another place. Pros: right next to campus, open 24/7, tasty dishes, parking Cons: Worst service ever!!! more

Migas Review by The Melbourne Method 2/24/2008

The Migas ? I asked to substitute the beans with potatoes, chose flour tortillas, and I selected the chipotle sauce as the topping. When the plate arrived it was certainly filled; however, of the thirds that it was divided into it seemed that the smallest third belonged to the Migas (while the rice took up far more space). The Migas were stacked ? there?s really no other way to explain it ? at the bottom were the eggs, veggies, and tortilla chips, on top of this was a layer of chipotle sauce and on top of this was a little bit of melted cheese. \r \r They were good, not great, but definitely not bad and they were genuinely satisfying. The tortilla chips within were plentiful and still pretty crunchy and the chipotle sauce was evenly distributed and spicy. Indeed the great failing of the Migas (other than lack of quantity) was that they really weren?t very cheesy?at all. The layer of cheese was thinly grated and barely melted ? making the Migas more like scrambled eggs with a few chips thrown in and some chipotle sauce on top. The potatoes were decent, but the presence of the rice only served as a reminder that this was space on the plate being wasted. The Migas were pretty good, they really were, there just wasn?t a lot of them and what there was wasn?t all that spectacular. \r \r Migas Score: 3 out of 7 (good but not exceptional)\r \r See more of my Migas reviews at www.themelbournemethod.blogspot dot com more

BIG PANCAKES 9/7/2007

Breakfast at this place is really good, they have huge pancakes and serve food at a very reasonable price. Its mostly always packed with students and a loud crowd, lots of gatherings. Their servers are either very hyper or very emo, and its all a very relax crowd. Garlic Mashed potato is good! The sausage patties rock too Pros: Good prices, great food Cons: Weird waiters, loud, always packed, parking more

A regualr diner with decent food 12/3/2006

In short, this is a decent diner with a mix of traditional and Austin fare offerings. We tried the queso with guacamole, which was a surprisingly good combination as the guacamole balanced out the richness of the cheese. Just, goes to show in America its always possible to take a fattening food and make it taster better with more fat. We followed that with the migas, scramble eggs with ranchero sauce, and a cob salad. The food was hot, food was good, although simple flavors and the service was average. Pros: Decent Food more

After 6th kind of place 11/23/2006

Kerbey Lane is another great place to come after a night out on the town. Walking into Kerbey lane, you can notice the distict Austin feel to the place. Another great thing about Kerbey lane is that it uses a lot of fresh ingredients in all its food (and i think organic too but im not too sure). Kerbey lane definitely helps keep ""The Drag"" what it is. I think the food here is great. They have some of the most filling pancakes in town, so don't be fooled! Overall, Kerbey Lane is a casual and affordable place to eat healthy food. Pros: Affordable healthy food. Austin Ambiance Cons: Can get crowded with college students at 2am, so don't come here if you arent ready for that more

great breakfast and drunken meals 11/17/2006

stick to breakfast items and things they claim as specials. don't be tempted to go with the fancy stuff, you'll be disappointed. great the night of or the morning after! i wouldn't reccommend this if you are over 30, its mostly a student hangout and you don't want to be the weird old person there. Pros: late night, breakfast, austin-y vibe to perfection Cons: don't expect great service more

Great weekend breakfast 10/30/2006

I love Kerbey for weekend brunches with friends. My favs are their pancakes (try the pumpkin ones), the bean and avocado tacos, the queso of course, and the hummus is really good too. The one bad thing abour Kerbey is the long wait. I suggest trying it on a weekday afternoon or night if you don't want to wait an hour to be seated. Pros: Good Food Cons: Long Wait more

Avoid at all costs 8/11/2006

My wife and I dine a lot out; especially for breakfast. We saw how busy it was there on a Sunday morning and we though, ""why not"". Well here is why, we waited 45 minutes just to be seated, then another 30 minutes to get our food (yes, we counted), then once we got our food it was HORRIBLE. Soggy and burnt bread with our eggs benedict, and etc. I highly reccomend you try another place, unless you are extremely hungry! Pros: Deck is nice Cons: See comments....the food and wait time more

Great food and great service 7/18/2006

I went to this wonderful restaurant with some friends. We all wanted a late night dinner and it was great that this terrific restaurant was still open. The food was fantastic and the service was incredible. I love this awesome restaurant. Pros: Great food and service Cons: absolutely none more

Great Austin place, 24/7 breakfast, but service can be inconsistent.... 6/20/2006

I have been to Kerby Lane on many occasions and have rarely had a bad experience. When the experiences were bad, it was usually due to slow service. The food quality was questionable only a couple of times, but we are pretty happy w/ our orders. \r Great pancakes, breakfast offerings 24/7, tortilla soup, fish tacos, queso, and sandwiches. You have to know when not to go (i.e. Sunday's from 11a to 2p) and certain dinner schedules. I agree that they could improve their service levels, however, it seems like they're so busy that they're not worried about losing business. Regardless, I always recommend Kerby Lane to all of my friends from out of town. Pros: 24/7 Breakfast, Pancakes, Tortilla Soup Cons: Inconsistent service, slow at times more

The worst restaurant in Austin 3/26/2006

I have been to Kerbey Lane two times, b/c two different people told me that this restaurant was good. However, both of these same friends did not enjoy their food when I dined with them, and I also did not like the food. Despite these bad experiences, i did not decide to write a review about this restaurant until i saw that the majority of my students at the university wrote on their exams ""Kerbey Lane is the worst restaurant in Austin"" in Spanish. My students, two of my friends, the other raters before me, and I can assure you that the food and service are way below par. Pros: college hangout, nothing, nothing Cons: food, food, service more

The ""chain"" could use some improvement 3/14/2006

Kerbey Lane has lost its way when it comes to providing decent food and service. Anything over a cup of coffee at this place and it becomes a near-impossible herculean effort to perform. Staff was outright rude to customers and felt it was more important to spend their time chatting up their friends or taking a smoke break. I, for one, wont go back. Austin has many other independent eateries, I suggest you spend you money there. Pros: Decent cup of coffee Cons: bad staff, Undercooked food more
