Best fish in town! 6/27/2009

My husband and I eat here every week. It's our favorite restaurant. The staff is wonderful and friendly. They recognize us when we show up. The food is excellent! You cannot find fish made the way it is here. We like to eat healthy and not have the food made with all kinds of butter and sauces and we always are pleased with the food and the staff's willingness to adapt things to make them healthier. more

I'm not sure what food everybody on here is speaking of 5/29/2009

I am from Louisiana there is nothing great about the food at this restaurant. The crawfish bisque is made of a dark roux which makes it taste like a low grade gumbo, the red beans were ok, the thing I enjoyed the most was the crab bisque which was made with a creamy base which is how bisque is supposed to be prepared. I ordered the Redfish Courtbuillion (how ever it's spelled) blackened, the topping which was made of a dark roux and tomato paste mixture with shrimp and crawfish. If I would've just gotten blackened fish it would've tasted much better (their roux totally messed it up). I'm not going to mention that my boyfriend sent back everything he ordered and finally he settled on a fried platter that was mediocre. The calamari and fish were NOT fresh, the shrimp were ok but small. Everything just was not fried right.\r \r BUT I must say.....The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing, the wait staff is excellent. No matter how much we asked for or wanted to switch meals they were very accomodating and always had a smile. The drinks were pretty good as well. \r \r I guess this food is great to people that have never had ""true Louisiana"" cooking but knowing what the ""real thing"" taste like I was very disappointed. I wouldn't advise anyone to go there for Louisiana food but the drinks and atmosphere were great! Pros: Atmosphere and Service Cons: FOOD! more

The new place in Houston to visit and has great values. 2/8/2009

Freshest seafood in town, with unique selection of fish. Golden tile, snook, and flounder that is filleted at table side. The new concept with an affordable and great wine list. Be aware this is a new place to visit and love. more

Superb Seafood/Restaurant 1/28/2009

I'm an avid seafood lover and have tried many of places in the Houston area, we went last weekend for our anniversary and was amazed at the fine quality of food, emmaculate restaurant and excellent wait staff. The food was amazing with great portions and excellent presentation. I throughly enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes topped with jumbo lump crab meat and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. The staff was awesome, we were even greeted by Denis Wilson himself at our table. Only downfall was the price of drinks, pretty stout. But, they were doing a Susan B. Komen special menu that included glass of wine, appetizer, entree and dessert for $40 with a donation of $5 going to the Susan B. Komen Foundation. I was a big fan of Denis' on Westheimer before they closed, but I have found a new favorite place for seafood. Excellent restaurant! Pros: Everything Cons: Cost of drinks more

Very dissapointed, and I am speaking about the food only. 1/8/2009

The fried oysters were so hard and so thickly coated with cornmeal, I could neither cut or put my fork through them. The fried shrimp were cooked well, but the size of the shrimp would have been nice in a shrimp cocktail (concerning size). The twice baked potatoe appeared to have been cooked much too long. I personally love the potatoe peel as welll as the stuffing but this was to no avail. The peeling was too hard to cut when using my knife, so I finally gave up. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, but most seafood restruants have no problem cooking these simple and wonderful seafoods.\r The service was wonderful, could not have been more pleasant. Service was perfect.\r The atmosphere could not be better. I will probably go back again, but for sure I will try the ""chop"" section of the menu. Ooops, forgot, the Calamari was fantastic.\r Pros: Parking, Service, Pleasant waiters, Resturant appearance Cons: Food did not meet my expectations more

So fresh I sware a tasted the Gulf !! 12/18/2008

My boyfriend took me here yesterday for my bday. Being an avid seafood lover, I was amazed at the freshness of the seafood and the portion size. I had so much food left over I had 4 to go boxes from 1 meal!! The appetizers could be a meal in their on right! Try the Shrimp Embrochette. Pls dont get me started on the great Martini's. The Jimmy Wilsontini is a real mans drink and the Summer Berry-tini was great. The best thing about it is that Wilson was outsiding joking around with us when we 1st arrived! The staff and managerial staff personal came to our table and joked around with us! I love this place! They couldnt have paid me to right a better review! more

Diamond in the Galleria 12/7/2008

Some guys from work and I had dinner there last week and I have to say ""MAGNIFICANT"". I didn't know what to expect since I had never been there before. Once we arrived the bartender Robby, I think, greeted us and offered us a drink. After we enjoyed his company, great guy, we headed off to our table. Craig was our server and I tell you he made us feel like royalty. Started with a bottle of Duckhorn and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cocktails perfect in every way. With our meals we each got a ""Wine Flight"" (tastes of different wines) these are a great deal each of them had a Cakebread which is hard to get just by the glass usually only by the bottle. My Snapper was cooked perfect and the Lemonbutter Lobster topping was decadent. We were too full for dessert but watching some come by made us think twice. The quality of service and food were that of any other fine dining you will find. What I felt that set this apart is the home feeling you get while you are there not stuffy but welcome and appriciated we were there. Thank you Robby, Craig and Jimmy Wilson's we needed you in this area. See you all real soon. Pros: Service, Food and pricepoint of wine Cons: Had to pay my bill more

All I can say is ""Just Dang Good!"" 10/7/2008

I've grown up around southern Louisiana, and this place brought me back home with the flavor that mom use to make over the stove. \r \r That being said, her kitchen was nothing like the one they have in full view of a one way mirror. I found that our evening flew by while watching the employees run about like worker ants preparing our meals. \r \r We had a designated waiter, but it seemed to me they all cater to your every need. The fish, Red Onanga, was incredible slightly blackened. I had no idea that it was from the Gulf that I grew up fishing in, and when we pared it up with the Pinot Flight ( 3 tastings of different wines by the glass), our dining experience was complete. \r \r The atmosphere seemed a little too much for seafood, but in the end, it left a warm, home-like feeling while eating. Music could be a little more trendy, but that's about all. Guess I need to listen to my wife more than the music....37)\r \r We shall return! \r \r \r more

Hidden Gem 7/21/2008

I?m a pappadeaux's regular and I must admit that Jimmy Wilson's is an extremely worthy opponent! The prices are moderate, restaurant is gorgeous, and the food was totally delicious. We ordered an array of items and from the crab meat enchiladas to the mixed grill to the fried platter it was all good! Their fondue was the best I've ever had; this is definitely one of Houston?s hidden treasures. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and a manager took the time to come by our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. There is also a hefty wine list, and nice bar. Pros: Reasonable price, good service, great food. Cons: It took me this long to discover Jimmy Wilsons! more

Well, Well, Well! 7/16/2008

My selection of this outstanding local seafood house was totally guided by CitySearch! I was in the mood for some fine Gulf seafood and Jimmy's delivered! The wine list to begin with offered many reasonably priced selections that could satisfy even the most picky palate! Our party kicked off the dinner with the Texas Shrimp and Baked Oysters -excellent and prepared to perfection! As a second course two of us had the seafood gumbo and it did not disappoint with a dark brown roux and just the right amount of oysters, crawfish , and shrimp-ooh, la, la! All of us ordered the snapper and had it prepared in three different styles-none of them disappointed us and needless to say there was not a speck left on the plates! What impressed me most was the fact the owners happened to be in the restaurant and made it a point to come by and chat and see what we thought of the food, this speaks volumes to me because it shows that if they were afraid of the the responses they would get they probably wouldn't ask-what a concept-actually engage the customer to make sure everything was perfect-and it was! Pros: Quality dining with an excellent wine list that is priced perfect! Cons: They don't have a restaurant in Atlanta! more

private dining 7/13/2008

I made reservations for a retirement dinner party for my father, and the day of I was told that we were booked for a space that I did not request (which required an additional charge). However, Shannon (manager) was very accomodating. She apologized for the inconvience and saw to it that my father's dinner was a success. We had the BEST wait staff, and they were very attentive to the need of all of our guests. This was my first time dining at this establishmnent, but certainly will not be my last! All of our guests were impressed by the food and service received. My Father (who is a native of Louisiana) really enjoyed the food as well as the atmosphere! SHANNON YOU ARE THE BEST! \r \r If you are in need of a private dining room for a special occasion, this is the place! Pros: Service, Ambience, Food Cons: not good for kids more

Seafood, cajun, and chophouse. Can't go wrong!! 6/12/2008

This is one of my fave places to eat. They have a large wine list and a great atmosphere but definitely not pretentious. I hate pretentious. Most importantly, the food is awesome and I always leave full and happy. The desserts are good, too. Also, Happy Hour is popular and they provide some free food. All in all, I highly recommend this place. Ask for Sheree. She's a great server, very nice and gives you a great experience. The owner is there a lot, too. It's a family affair and I like that. more

Freshest seafood in town 6/4/2008

Love this seafood house, definately has the right combination of fresh seafood and service. Ambience is terrific, reminds me of some of the places I love in New York. Highly recommend this place to everyone! more

very fresh seafood 5/6/2008

I have eaten here four times now and have enjoyed my meal each time. I am picky about eating seafood and get bored easily with a menu. The Golden tile is my favorite fish. I unfortunately ate too much and went home very stuffed from eating delicious crabcake, rainbow trout and bread pudding. I will return soon but won't make the mistake of over-eating! Pros: fresh seafood, good service, reasonably priced more

Extraordinary seafood and steaks, excellent service, beautiful decor 1/20/2008

Last night we tried the new Jimmy Wilson's on San Felipe at Sage and were very impressed from the time we walked in. We had our 8-year-old with us and as we waited a short 10 minutes for a table near the front door, two women were discussing trash a bit too loudly at the bar. The bartender quickly asked them to turn it down out of respect for our presence. I was truly impressed! The restaurant is tastefully designed with massive wine moving wine racks from floor to ceiling. The husband wanted steak so badly but they're a bit costly at $35. He went for the ribeye anyway which was prefectly prepared and he was satisfied. I chose the Redfish Roulaide, one of the house specials topped with oysters, shrimp and a spicy roux based sauce. Simply delicious! Our server was very attentive but not overly! There is no child's menu so next time we will arrange for a babysitter so our daughter ate crab fingers w/fries and steak and fish bits from our plates. If you love wine, excellent cajun-based seafood and perfectly prepared steaks, Jimmy Wilson's on San Felipe is the place. It's new so not overly crowded even at 7:30 on a Sat night. It will be though as long as the food, service and atmosphere remains as excellent as it is now! Pros: Service is top notch and excellent seafood and steaks! Cons: Get a babysitter, no child's menu more

Our New Favorite Place in Houston 1/8/2008

Jimmy Wilson?s Seafood & Chop House on San Felipe at Sage has great atmosphere, excellent service, food, and drink at a reasonable price. The owners have completely gutted the former restaurant at this location and the result is a spotlessly clean, open kitchen behind glass and a big wrap around bar with multiple plasma TVs. There is also a patio. They serve impeccably fresh seafood prepared in a variety of ways (ie. not all fried). One of our favorite appetizers is the sweet & succulent Garlic Steamed Gulf Oysters. The gulf crabmeat, fried oysters, and broiled trout almondine are delicious! We haven?t tried the beef dishes but have been told that the Colorado lamb is fabulous! Give this new restaurant a try! It will not disappoint! Pros: Inviting atmosphere, great kitchen more

A great addition to the area... 12/11/2007

Just went last night to the new Jimmy Wilsons on San Felipe and it was GREAT. I eat at the one on westheimer about every month or so and it has been my favorite seafood place for many years. The new one is so neat, when you walk in the first thing you see is a giant wine tower and a giant tower full of liquor. We were also happy to see Jeff the manager from the other store. We will defiantly be back again, the food was perfect like always and the service was very good as well. I recommend this place to anyone, I am not a big wine drinker but they have a huge wine list and the other person I was with commented that the prices were much better then all the other places in the area. Pros: Food, Service, Location Cons: Nothing yet... more
